I arrived home at 4:02 and not a soul was in site, vehicles or people. However, there was a large box in the front yard across the driveway. I did not have time to check it out so I left it there. I thought it was trash they took out of their van because it was not far from where they were parked. There was also a used glove lying in the driveway. I also found 3, what appeared to be, cut up t-shirts that were dirty around the house. I went to the bathroom and immediately noticed that the only thing they did was possible move some of the stuff in the tub around and wipe the top of the tub side off and wipe the shower curtain rod down. The floor was still dirty the window was still covered with cobwebs and dust, the light fixtures still were not cleaned. Ditto for the laundry room, except they did attempt to wipe down the grate on the door. Around 4:30 ish, I grabbed up my paperwork and on the way to an appointment in Richmond I called PuroClean and spoke with Nicky about the issues. She also stated like the guys at my house did, ?They were not there to ?clean? every nook and cranny. They were just there to remove the smoke and soot.? I told her what my insurance adjuster had told me, that the entire house would be cleaned like a brand new home. If your house was a box and you dumped everything out of it. The walls, ceiling and floors would be cleaned. The baseboards, nooks, crannies, closets, cabinets everything would be cleaned to remove anything there smoke, soot, odor and dust. Then all the contents would be cleaned furniture, knick knacks, pictures, books, etc and put back up. I even asked about the air scrubbers. I was being charged for a total of 12 days worth of air scrubber which was to be 3 or 4 air scrubbers for 3 or 4 days. There was only one left at my home and they had put that in front of a burning wood stove and had it turned on high! My husband turned it off because it was drawing the smoke and ashes out to the stove. I got Nicky?s permission to turn it off. I would hate to think what might have had happened if he was not home. I had asked Scott earlier about the dirty air filters and he stated that would probably change them Monday. It was my understanding that they were supposed to be changed out daily. Nicky confirmed this fact when she stated just that, ?The filters are supposed to be changed daily?. I was told by numerous companies and people including my insurance company and PuroClean, not to clean anything that I could make the smoke and soot set into my property and permanently damage it. So I did not clean anything even new dust and dirt because I was told not to clean anything. Nicky said she would call and speak with the insurance adjuster and find out what they were supposed to be doing. She said it was probably to late to get with the insurance company tonight that she would try and would get back with me on Monday the 28th. I said ok. I also went over with her about the time the guys and Megan left. She said they called her and told her 4:00 pm. I said no way. They were in the driveway packed up talking and ready to leave when my husband came home at 3:30. They wanted him to do a walk through and he refused. So they left. Nicky said she would take care of that too. I also told Nicky that I did not want Megan back out to my house. I called and left a message for my adjuster. She called me back around 5:30. I went over everything with her again and wanted to make sure I was correct about cleaning and moving everything. She said yes! She even told me to go ahead and get someone else to clean since it was obvious that this company was not doing it properly. I told her that I wanted to give Victoria a chance to fix the issues. She said that was very nice of me. On Saturday the 26th, It started raining and snowing, and I remembered about the box in my front yard. I went to see what it was and it was a big vacuum cleaner. I brought it inside and cleaned it up (it was very dirty/dusty on the outside) so it would not ruin. The Estimate is for $8,753.92 to clean the house from floor to ceiling, wall to wall, every item in the home was to be cleaned, every nook and cranny, every window (inside and out), window sills, carpets cleaned. As my insurance company put it "It will be the spring cleaning of your life!". On Monday the 28th, I went to use the shower and could not believe what was there. A sponge that had been cleaned out in the shower and soot/smoke/dust splattered in the bottom of the shower. I had to clean the shower before I could use it. That was the finally straw. Scott had called and said they should be here around 8:30. I called him back and told him to call the other guys and tell them not to come, that I just wanted him to come and get his stuff out of my house. He said Okay. When he arrived I had just walked out to the front porch to take a picture of the used glove in my driveway. I walked back into the house to put away my camera and went back to the door to let Scott in. He was very red faced and his mouth was drawn in a straight line. I said ?Your machine is in the other room?. He said okay. May I ask why all of a sudden you want us out. I stated it?s not all of a sudden, I had spoken with Nicky on Friday evening. And that ?When I went to take a shower and had to clean up the sooty, smoky, dusty mess their dirty sponge had splattered in my shower, that I had had enough!? He appeared to be a little angry but he did not say anything for a few minutes. Then he said, ?It is very obvious you are upset and I am not going to try and talk to you like that.? He took the machine out and I closed and locked the door and went to the bathroom. The phone rang, and then someone was knocking at the door, then someone was turning the door knob like they were trying to get in. Then the phone rang again. And the knocking would not stop. I was getting a little scared so when I got out of the bathroom I called straight to PuroClean and asked the answering service to call someone and tell Scott to get off of my property. He was scarring me. Then he called again and again. I did not answer the phone. I finally called back to PuroClean and told them if Scott did not leave immediately I was calling the cops. The answering service put me on hold and said they were going to call the owner. They came back and told me that the owner was going to call me right away. When Victoria called me I told her what had happened with Scott that morning with the phone calls and the jiggling of the door knobs and that I was really getting scared. She said he left you messages stating that he needed to get the heap vac that they left in you house. I told her I did not listen to his messages & they did not leave a vac in my house it was left in the front yard and that when it started raining and snowing I remembered the box in the yard and brought it in and cleaned it up. She wanted me to give it to Scott. I stated no. I was not opening my door until he left. She said he is a preacher. I told her I did not care I was not opening the door. If he left I would put it on the porch and he could come back and get it later. So that is what happened. As soon as he left I called Victoria back a told her he just pulled out of the drive way with the vac. I called Victoria again a few days later & asked if she would come & see the job. she said no she did not care what her employess did or did not do, and it was obvious I was not happy with the work they preformed so they were going their way and I should go mine. That was the last contact of any type with this company. The estimate for this job was $8,753.92. The C price rating was giving because it did not matter which restoration company I used, the cost was going to be the same. The only differences would be the interatction with the people. For almost $9,000 the house should have been Immaculate! Other than their "special cleaner" I could have done a better job!
Description of Work: Thursday 24, 2011 Appointment set for Thursday March 24, 2011 at 9:00 /11:15 PuroClean employees finally arrived (structure cleaners) / 12:30 Megan (content cleaner) arrived / 2:00 Scott the Project Manager left with one guy to go on an emergency call / 4:30 Other 2 PuroClean employees and Megan left. Originally was told by Scott that they would arrive and get an earlier start on Friday, before (6:55 am) when I left to go on the bus. Then he changed it to 8:00-8:15 incase they were out late on the emergency call. When I arrived home off of my bus route, PuroClean employees and Megan stated that they had finished cleaning 6 areas, the Attic & the Closet, the Master Bedroom, the Master Bathroom, My Daughter’s room and closets, the small bathroom and the laundry room. We had an appointment that evening and had to leave pretty much when everyone working on the house did. At first quick glance, the bedrooms and master bath appeared very nice. Things were pointed out to me by the various people. More so by Megan since she was actually doing most of the cleaning & was letting me know where she put stuff that needed my attention. She made the statement that she moved the stuff in the closet on the shelves down to clean under them. I said that was fine. The small bathroom & the laundry room looked like it was partially straightened. I just happened to notice the very dirty light fixture in the small bathroom and asked the people, “You did say ya’ll cleaned the bathroom right?” Megan stated yes. I said well why is the light fixture so dirty? Megan stated, “The guys were supposed to get what I could not reach.” Supposedly they went back in there to clean the light fixture again. DID NOT HAPPEN! I decided to speak with Victoria about the cleaning and everyone just left. When I arrived home, after our appointment, I went through the rooms better. Starting in the master bedroom, the baseboards were not cleaned properly because there was dust and stuff clinging to it at the top and at the carpet line. The furniture had hunks of dust attached to the front in various places. The furniture had not been moved to clean the baseboards. The walls still had stuff on them. The windows were smeared, the ceiling fan and light fixtures were not cleaned. The wall pier headboard and the dressers were partially cleaned. Maybe just the top and the front, but not inside of the design on the doors & drawers, not the top of the wall pier headboard, not the tops of the doors and drawers, not above the entrance doors, not the raised panels on the doors and not the window sills. Not the toolbox that is in my bedroom. Above the light switches and outlet plates were not cleaned. The corners of the floor were not cleaned. The bed frame was not cleaned. I got tired of looking and taking pictures so I moved to the next room. In front of me, I happened to walk in when, one of the guys told Scott that he could not clean the outside of the window because the toolbox was in the way. I said nothing I figured Scott would say something, but he didn’t. The closet. When Megan stated she had moved stuff down on the shelves to clean under them I guess she was just talking about a few of the items. There was a light bulb lying on top of some shoes, it was still there, there was a pink shoebox that I tossed onto the stack of shoes near where the light bulb was lying, that stuff had not been moved. Stuff on the floor had not been moved and vacuumed under. There is a drawer frame that has been laying against the wall in the closet for a longtime. It was not moved IF they cleaned the walls in there as they had stated. There were pieces of insulation and debris on the clothes hangers. The back of the door had large areas of SOOT still stuck to it. I did not go into the attic because the smoke and soot has kept me sick since the fire. So I was not going to chance it not being clean and me breathing in more junk. The Master Bathroom , The floors were still dirty, the toilet was not cleaned, the mirrors and window was streaked. The shower and Jacuzzi were not cleaned. A repeat of a lot that was not cleaned in the other rooms as well, door panels, baseboard, etc. My daughter’s room, the ceiling fan was not cleaned, the window frame was not cleaned. The closet walls and ceiling were not cleaned. Stuff was not removed from her walls and wiped behind them. See other stuff in other rooms above as well. The floor in the laundry room was not swept or mopped, the doors and windows not cleaned. The washer and dryer was not wiped down. The return grate on the door going to hall was not even touched! The light fixtures were not cleaned. I honestly do not think anything was done in the laundry room. The little bathroom the floor was not swept or mopped, the toilet was not cleaned, the light fixtures were still dirty, and the tub and pictures were not cleaned. The mirror was smeared. The shower curtain rod was covered in dirt. Other than the mirror, I honestly believe that they did nothing in this room either. They told me to keep the doors closed to the rooms they had already cleaned. And the above rooms were the rooms they had closed and showed to me. I took pictures and made notes. Also, they told me that they would be leaving 3–4 air scrubbers on for the entire duration of the cleaning project, 24 hours a day. There was only 1 air scrubber that, if it was running at all during the cleaning on Thursday, was in the attic, I heard Scott yell up to the guys to turn on the air machine. There was not an air scrubber to be seen by me until I returned off my bus. There were 2, 1 was in my room and 1 was in my daughter’s room. The filters were very dirty. Now I am not even sure that they installed new filters before coming to my house. Around the house (inside and outside) I found 2 dirty rags (1 on my daughters toy stand and 1 outside her doorway on the toy chest), 1 hair cover and 2 face masks on my porch and sidewalk. Friday, March 25, 2011 6:30–No one arrived or called/8:00 – No one arrived or called/8:25 Scott called stating that they would arrive @ 10:00, because the guys had a late night and he was letting them sleep in some/8:45 Called and LM for Victoria to call me/8:55 Scott called-said Victoria called him to call me. I really did not want to go over stuff with him but I did and he said he would look at it when he got here. I told Scott that I did not feel they were taking my job seriously because there was not the excitement of stuff being destroyed. My issue was smoke, soot and odor. And that it was very serious to me and my family. He assured me that all jobs are serious and he is sorry I felt that way, but my job was important / 10:45 Scott and 1 guy arrived. I went through the house with Scoot and the other guy showing them the issues. Scott said they would re-do those rooms and get it done right. He also told me that if there was stuff against the wall that they assumed everything was alright behind it so they did not move anything to clean behind it. I said okay, well what about this wall, it is still dirty. One of the other guys stated that they were not here to “clean” my house, they were here to remove the smoke, soot and odor left behind from the wildfire. I said how can you only remove smoke and soot without removing the dirt as well. They stated that the special sponges they use only attracted soot and smoke. I told them that my insurance company stated that they were going to have the house cleaned nooks and crannies and everything everywhere, because smoke can go through stuff and get in places you would not even imagine. Most of the registers in my house were covered, so Scott said they did not need to be cleaned. He stated that the hall closet since it was closed does not need to be cleaned. When I asked about the smeared windows and mirrors one of the guys told me that I (me, Cathy, the home owner who was paying them to clean up) had to rewash them myself with windex to remove the streaks, that they only used their special cleaner to wipe stuff down. Scott took one of their sponges and wiped behind the door and took off, very easily, a huge area of soot from the back of the door. When we went to the laundry room and bathroom, he could not believe they had been cleaned either. 11:15 -12:00 Everyone else arrived. Scott had a pow-wow with them and he came back to me and said they did not do the closet because of having to go through it to get to the attic and finishing up there. Which made sense, but why would they move a few things and clean but not everything? Then they all got started to work. Scott told them to work until 4:30. It was decided they would not start any new area and would concentrate on the rooms that were not cleaned properly from the previous day. Then Scott left to get prepared for another job that was going on that weekend at a bank. It was a major improvement in the master bedroom and one of the guys walked around with me. He showed me everything I had pointed out to him and Scott earlier except the ceiling fan and the closet. When I went to check on the ceiling fan, he said oh no, I forgot the ceiling fan. 1:47 I received a phone call that lasted a good hr. The people working were at the hallway while I was on the phone, so I thought they were tackling the laundry room and the small bathroom. I over heard bits and pieces of conversations, like; I like the racks for the clothes hangers, she’s still on the phone, is she still on the phone? They were talking and really enjoying themselves. I am not sure where they disappeared to but when I got off the phone I did not see anyone until I was walking out the door. They wanted me to walk around and look at what had been completed. I did not have time. I said you will be here when I get back right. He said yes we should be. I said, If not please lock the door when you leave. Contuinued under Comments:

Everything went well until I learned recently that the repair was incomplete. When I tried to get the flooring replaced, I learned that a significant portion of the subflooring is damaged and needs removal. Furthermore, several of the joists in the crawlspace are damaged. I called Victoria McLean and notified her and sent pictures. She will not respond to my emails or calls. Now I have to get another company to finish the repair.
