Old Dominion Septic & Rooter

In April 2018, I hired Old Dominion Septic and Rooter to pump and inspect a 30 year old septic tank on a piece of land for which I was getting ready to build a home. Upon inspection, they discovered a crack in the existing tank and advised it would be best to replace the tank. The company owner's husband, John Norris, quoted me $2650.00 to do the work. I asked them to go ahead and do it. Being anxious to start the construction of my new home, I asked how long it would take to complete the job. John Norris explained that it would take two to three weeks to obtain the needed inspections and permits, and said the tank could be installed a few days afterwards. I immediately signed the agreement and sent the required 50% deposit on May 01st. This was the initiation of the worst customer service experience I could have ever imagined. The communication from John Norris and the owner, Peggy Norris, was horrible. I constantly had to chase them down to get information about issuance of permits, delays in the installation, and final operational permit. I have a string of emails and text messages stretching from May 15th through August 02nd, when the work was finally completed, inspections completed, permits issued, and receipt offered for my final payment. Something that I was led to believe was take three to four weeks to complete, lingered over 13 weeks. This left my builder hanging and cost me money as I was paying interest on a construction loan. In many instances, my attempts to contact Old Dominion for updates went ignored. When they did reply, their information was often deceitful and untrue. To top it all off, the tank that they finally installed was too small for the home I was building, necessitating that I file a "conditional use" permit restricting how many people could live in my home. I understand that the tank they installed was the largest possible for my drain field. But, they should have disclosed this to me when the work was quoted so I could have explored options. Instead, I learned of it after the Virginia Department of Health initially denied the operational permit. How John and Peggy Norris manage to stay in business in beyond my comprehension.

These people are super nice to work with. They do very good work. Very neat. My only bump in dealing with them was that they are kind of hard to get on the phone to talk to directly. I had to leave a lot of messages. Other than that, I would recommend them and will call them again should I need service.

GREAT, Joe arrived and went to work. He checked everything outside the pump up first. He wanted to be sure it was not an electric plug. He opened it up and a new pump was required. He had a couple in mind. He then called the parts dept. who had the pumps and made sure that this was the best for the job. He then waited, NOT be back another day, while a company member picked up the pump. He installed it and everything works great.

I called at 7 15 am and they arrived around 10:30 am. Both Steven and Jimmy were very professional and explained step by step what they were doing. I couldn't have been treated better. This family owned business is on my list for future use.

I spoke to Peggy Norris the Owner on Monday, late in the afternoon, regarding my need to find a company that could pump out my Primary Septic Tank on Tuesday (prior to my having another home construction project that was to commence on Wednesday). I received a call around 4:30 from her husband, John, who assured me that the job would be able to be completed the next afternoon. Jimmy and Steve arrived at my home on Tuesday at 4:00 and were most courteous, professional, and informative about my septic system as well as septic systems in general. No digging was necessary as my tanks have four round concrete cap covers in addition to a larger concrete cover that is over our pump. I remained with Jimmy and Steve during the entire pumping process. During our conversation, I also found out that this is a family owned business that employs only their family members. I would not hesitate whatsoever to recommend Old Dominion Septic & Rooter to others as per my experience with them.

Old Dominion came on 12/28 and pumped my septic tank and told me to flush the toilet.The guys told me it was stopped up and worked to free it up.After a little bit of effort the guys freed it up.They told me I did not have any bacteria in my septic tank which is important because the bacteria breaks down the stuff in there.So I bought a bag of Bio-active from them to flush once a month to help create the bacteria in the septic tank.The cost was $200 to pump the septic tank $40 for the bag of Bio-active total $245.00.The guys were very good workers and very helpful.Will use again in the future.

Great service! Called them early in the morning. All follow up calls were as promised. They came to our home within a few hours to fix the problem! Great crew! Great service! Using this company again!

Arrived on time, located the tank outlet with no trouble, and pumped out the tank. We will be using annually and would recommend.

Va Power was at my brothers house to bury some electrical lines when they accidently hit a septic tank (we did not know the septic tank existed- thought the house was on sewer) in the backyard- water started gushing out of pipes from the house. My dad and brother initially called another local plumber who gave a $10,000 estimate to convert the house to sewer and bury the tank. Since the estimate was so high by another company, I came on Angies List to see if anyone else in the Richmond area had good reviews for septic issues. I found Old Dominion and cannot say enough about how responsive and honest they were. They spent a lot more time looking at the situation and found out that the house was already connected to the county sewer (like we initially thought, but not what the other plumbing company said). They used cameras to confirm this which was an extra step. Throughout the whole process, they communicated everything we needed to know and did a lot of legwork to save us money and time. We were very pleased with the end result and they even used their bulldozer when it was on site to take down some unwanted ivy in the backyard! We highly recommend Old Dominion for plumbing and septic issues!

John and his team were prompt and courteous, provided services and even returned to double check the repairs after the fact! Great team delivering on all their promises
