McHugh's Restorations evaluated three dolls ,explaining options and recommendations for repair, they did appraisals and restored two of them. The third, they explained was worth less than $100 and was in excellent condition and sent me home with her without charge. They made recommendations for storage and display. I will return to this business with other repairs and for advice.
Description of Work: McHugh's Restorations refurbished two civil war porcelain dolls.

The work they did was just great. My wife wasn't as satisfied as she would of liked with one piece but maybe they did all that they could with that particular piece. It was an inexpensive piece so it was okay. We took in another piece with two cracks in it, it was a one hundred year old plus piece. They fixed the cracks and it was beautifully done. They also found another crack in the piece and repaired that. The piece looks like new. They did take a long time. The lady I talked with is always helpful and was as nice as she could be. She took the creamer which was cracked and she said missing a sharp piece so she faked a piece to go around and didn't charge me for that. She didn't want anyone to get cut. They do have good customer service. There are limits as to what they can do and they are not miracle workers. I will be using them again in the future.
Description of Work: My wife had some ceramic antique pieces restored by McHugh's Restorations.

The service was fantastic. My mother and I brought the dolls in to the shop about 10:00 and by 1:00 I had received a call the dolls were ready to pick up. When we dropped off the dolls we were given a brief history of each doll and then how to take care of them. We were told to redress them in their clothes and not handle them too much to continue to preserve the dolls. I would definitely use McHughs again and would recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: I had 4 dolls that my mother had when she was a child, which meant the dolls were between 75-80 years old. All the dolls needed to be restrung since all the rubber bands had broken or were very loose. All heads, legs and arm are now secured to the bodies.

They are very easy to work with and very competent in their expertise. They tell you right up front what they can and cannot do to repair your piece and the cost of the repair. Being able to do it in stages enables you to invest as little or as much as you want. I have used them on several occasions and have been pleased with their work every time. They do not work very fast however, as it takes time between the steps of the various processes that they must go through, for the piece to dry and cure. It took about a month and a half to repair the chocolate pot through two stages. But they are clear up front about how long they will need to complete the work on your item.
Description of Work: The lip on my grandmothers chocolate pot had been broken a long time ago, repaired and then broken again. They cleaned up the evidence of the old glue and then glued the newly broken pieces back together. They then filled in the areas where chips were missing and then painted over the area to blend it in with the rest of the painting on the pot. If you look carefully you can still see the glued areas. However, if you want them to paint the area so that there would be no visible sign left of the breakage, they can do that. They repair in three separate stages and you can check and see if you want to stop at each stage or go on to the next. Level one is to glue and repair only; level two is to paint to blend in with the back ground; and level three is to completely restore to its original condition. Their gluing job is terrific and often that is all that is needed, but if you require additional work that's always available. This is not a cheap process but to restore a valuable heirloom, an expensive piece, or something with great sentimental value, it is certainly well worth the money invested. They repair all manner of items. I would say if it is broken, regardless of how badly, they can fix it.
