After having two other quotes after James River, I was able to ask James River Granite more questions after our initial contact. I almost went with another company because the other company asked questions about our prospective installation that I had not thought about, and were very detailed and thorough in their estimation. In fact, the initial quote from James River Granite was almost too quick, and that's why at first I wasn't comfortable using them. However, after James River followed up with me and gave me a quote, and after obtaining a little more information and getting other questions answered about the installation, I had no doubt I was going to go with them. The were very quick to follow up with me about everything. Our home is older, so the countertops were not level. The four installers used splints and wood to level the top frame of our lower cabinets before installing the granite so the countertops would be level. They contracted out a plumber that was able to install a new sink and a new dishwasher after the granite was put in. They also had to perform a special cutout for the stove, as it was to have granite continue behind it. Their measurements were very accurate. The installers even caulked around the stove afterwards to make it more aesthetic. They also leveled the stove at my request. My only complaint in the finishing was the brackets that they chose to support the granite bar in our kitchen. We needed the decorative/supportive brackets help hold the hanging countertop. They were to be spaced about 3 feet apart. So, one of the installers made a trip to Lowe's and came back with a cheap looking triangle bracket (like the shelf supports on walls). So, we had to pick out our own, but they came back and installed them with no problem. So, make sure you pick out the supports if you're having an overhang! Overall, I would definitely have them perform the service again. Reasonably priced, prompt, and focused, I would not pause to recommend them.
Description of Work: A representative came out and measured the places where we wanted granite. After we visited the granite yard and selected our granite, she was able to give us a more accurate quote. The installers came in a week later and installed all our kitchen granite in under 3 hours.

I became aware of this company through an Angie's List deal but wasn't able to get in on the deal at the time. I had been pricing various options at a couple of major retailers but just wasn't ready to make a decision on natural stone versus man-made materials. A few weeks later when we decided to go the granite route, I drove down to James River Granite to compare their prices to the big retailers. My visit with Ron and Deborah was very pleasant. They took time to answer numerous questions about the different varieties of granite, allowed me to view some larger slabs to get a better idea of what things might look like, and sent me home with a couple of granite samples to consider. Once we decided on the granite, it only took three days to finalize a time for Ron to come and confirm the measurements. Time from measuring to installation was only twelve days (actually could have been three shorter had my schedule allowed). Installation was uneventful. I tore out the old laminate countertops and did the post-installation plumbing to save a few dollars. There were a couple of minor issues with a corner and a piece of backsplash that were addressed within forty-eight hours of initial installation. Overall, we are quite pleased with the value we received for the price paid. I had nothing but positive experiences with the major retailers I checked with in the early stages of our exploration and found their sales people to be very helpful, but ultimately I felt more comfortable dealing with a smaller family run business and saved several hundred dollars. I would definitely contact James River Granite again if I needed countertops.

They provided a new double bowl stainless sink that we found difficult to locate at the 'big box' stores. They also arranged for the necessary plumbing by another company (Lee's Plumbing). Both companies were prompt and thorough in their work. We used an Angie's list coupon for $500 worth of the work. While measuring and providing an estimate prior to the work, they identified several minor issues that other contractors missed. During installation, they addressed each issue and made the final product look very professionally done. They were also very helpful in providing samples and recommendations regarding the material and colors we eventually used.

Experience was very good. Rep met me at location when they were closed and explained options and went to pic out top. Fast and prompt. As you can see cost was over advertised deal $600.00. And I removed tops. Extras cost comes for additional areas covering island and edge rounding because I did not want flat edge. Overall great experience.

They were great, the weather was bad, in fact it snowed the day of the installation but they followed through with the installation and support. The visit to the show room was pleasant and professional and they insured that we selected worked well with or objectives. I could not have been happier. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to up grade their kitchen. As soon as I can afford the upgrade I will contract them to up grade my master bath as well.

Deborah and Ron were great to work with they went through all the details thoroughly with me, set up timetables etc. before I left the office. The employees that did the installation and the plumber Lee were very thorough even going into care instructions and making sure that I was satisfied with the installation. Overall the install went extremely smooth and exactly on target with the pricing. Deborah went through all options for my granite and was very patient while I tried to make decisions. I would highly recommend them.

Things went well. I had immediate contact with the business through email and phone. Great responsiveness and I like that they realize my timeline for when I wanted it done. We visited the nearest granite place and picked out the granite. It was installed within the week. James River Granite is very easy to work with. They will keep you informed every step of the way, and they do good work. I love our counters and appreciate the suggestions in making things look more current. We extended out the peninsula to have an overhang for stools. The only stickler I have now is the plumbing. The plumbing was not included in the job and when you install granite, it changes the plumbing a bit. We are still working with a plumber to get it right, but the granite looks great. With a new sink, I didn't know it would affect the pipes, space under the sink, etc. My husband and a partner did the work, but we need more expertise for what needs to be done.

I worked with Deborah. She came quickly to assess the project requirements, quickly gave me an estimate and followed through, meeting my tight schedule requirements. I wanted the granite installed before the floor refinishers came out and the floors had to "cure" for three weeks before moving in to our new townhome. James River gave me the best price and I only had one point of contact -- Deborah. The finished product was exemplary! The granite fit perfectly and the one seam is hardly even noticeable.

It was great. I initially selected James River Granite to come out for an estimate because of their rating on Angie's List and because they had an Angie coupon. The owner, Deborah Graham came out with her daughter and did the measurements. I then went several days later to look at edges at their shop and then went with Deborah to the granite yard they use. Since I have a hard time walking any distance, Deborah pushed me up and down the isles of slabs in a wheelchair (several times). Also, I took samples of my cabinet color (crown molding), bamboo floors, and wall paint color with me to pick out the granite - I can't stress strongly enough how important it is to do this! It's amazing how many granite samples were immediately eliminated when the cabinet sample was put next to it. We narrowed the selection to two slabs on this trip and also selected a Blanco Silgranite sink color which would match either choice. I then went back the next day with my husband and showed him the two choices - he liked the one we were all leaning towards - River Bordeaux. Once my lower cabinets were in place, Deborah sent someone out to do the template. Then we went back to her shop where we could see how the template would be cut from our slab - so we could see that the right areas of granite were being highlighted and also that the areas to be seamed would look appropriate. Early on installation day I called to see what time the installers would be arriving - and they had down that they were scheduled the following day! This was probably my error, but we had confirmed a day of the week on my prior trip (versus a date) and neither Deborah nor I were looking at her written schedule. In any case, they quickly accommodated and had installers out the same day, which kept our project on schedule (trying to have running water prior to 12/21). The installation went off without a hitch and the seam is barely noticeable. Everything looks great! Deborah came out several days later to see how things looked. We'll definitely use James River Granite whenever we want to do this again!

After having floor damage from a dishwasher disaster, we decided to upgrade to granite countertops while going thru this long process of reconstruction. Went several places but due to the wonderful customer service from Carol at James River Granite and Marble, I kept coming back. She was extremely helpful and patient with all of my questions and concerns. Had granite countertops installed and a new Blanco Silgranite sink and absolutely love both! Have had numerous compliments. Thanks again James River !

The crew that handled the work were professional, courteous and on time. They did a great job and cleaned up after they completed the installation. The granite is beautiful! Everyone I talked to or dealt with at James River could not have been nicer, more courteous or more professional. They were very helpful during the entire process. The sink I selected is fabulous and I would highly recommend the brand and the type of sink I purchased. It is a Blanco sink which is a granite composite and does not stain or scratch. All you have to do is wipe it clean with a sponge! It is a beautiful sink and does not cost much more than the regular stainless steel sink. I can recommend James River Granite with no hesitation - my kitchen looks beautiful!

It was a wonderful experience. This is a family owned business and very knowledgable with granite counter tops. We had lots of questions from what color to choose to how long would it take to install. All the pieces were cut ahead of time from the foot print taken earlier and installed the granite in less than a day. We picked out a color on Friday and we changed it on Monday. They were great! I went back on monday and selected the granite that I wanted. We had wanted granite tops for the last 5 years. The price I paid was half of what it would have cost me from someone else with great quality, craftsmanship, and service.
Description of Work: They came out and measured the counter tops, gave me an estimate (because is was more square feet then the special), came back to do a foot print for the counter tops then the following week they scheduled and completed the install.

Our corian veneer countertop was 15 years old and had cracked. they don't make that product anymore. I determined that I wanted quartz countertops. The cabinet door refinishers (Karsten, see my other review) recommended James River Granite and Marble along with another vendor. We went with JR as they had the lower initial quote. I contacted Deborah Graham and she recommended some places for me to go to and look at samples. My part probably took the longest of this whole effort! But, I went back to a couple of places more than once & finally decided. I also met Deborah at her location to discuss more options and edge finishes. I had been thinking about getting tile above the backsplash and she advised me on the choices. I went to their recommended tile vendor and found them to be helpful, too. I chose the tile, the sink, and the faucet. Once we had made all those decisions, we were ready to go. James River was able to accommodate our aggressive schedule. "We want it next week!" They said, "okay!" They came two consecutive days. Day one: rip out old counters and sink, install new counters. I was amazed at how quickly it went. During the installation, we discovered that one counter width was slightly off. I thought this would delay completion, but they were able to recut the piece the same day, plus make adjustments for the backsplashes. My husband and I changed another backsplash dimension "on the fly" and they handled it, no problem. They also recommended a 2 inch backsplash for the window seat which we had not planned. It gave the window seat a much more finished look. The installers were friendly and professional. All the counter work was done (and it was a lot!) in one day. Day two: The plumber came and installed the disposal and hooked up the faucets. The tile installer worked non-stop from the time he got here until 9:30 at night. He had to do a lot of custom cuts since we have so many outlets, plus he tiled around a pass-through from our kitchen into the living room. I tried to make him stop and eat something, but no, he wanted to keep working. Also, very friendly and professional. He was very painstaking and the results show it. Perfect. e
Description of Work: Measured all areas to be replaced. Made a template for an irregularly shaped windowseat in a bay window at the end of the kitchen. Removed existing corian veneer countertops, both sides and one end of kitchen. Removed island countertop (9x3). Removed countertop under bay window. Removed corian double sink attached to counter. Replaced all these surfaces with quartz. Installed replacement under-mount sink and faucet. Tiled area above the sink and above the counter opposite the sink. This job involved the measuring/ cutting of the countertops, plumbing, and tile work, all of which James River either did themselves, or supplied the proper contractors to do.

It's gone quite well . Took a little longer than expected, cost more due to more footage needed for side counter, etc. Like the special called Desert Brown that we chose. My husband did the plumbing to save on the estimated $400 plus charge plus he laid strips of wood so the granite would be at the right level for the tiles..the strip height was underestimated though and the thicker caulking necessary to do around all the edges against the tile was more than we'd hoped. We bought the 18 gage upgraded 60/40 sink and we like that choice so we're using it and enjoying the granite's beauty. Our James River Granite agent was responsive to our concerns and helpful with the process. Probably better to mention the sink choices once though, and not divide it into later conversations about possibilities-so simplify for the consumer.

The estimate was a pleasure. Deborah laid out several options for us, based on the type of granite we selected. She spent half a day with us touring the local granite distributors. She was so patient. The next step was the measurement. It went well. Installation was done so quickly! They came back to do some additional work at no charge to us just to make sure we were completely happy. We worked with four people in the company and they were all friendly and respectful. Stone Sea consulted with me on replacing my old countertops with granite ones. The company representative came to my home, took measurements, and made recommendations on what might be best and most economical for our situation. She gave an estimate that came in significantly less than the other company we consulted. I really liked that I was dealing with a woman as she understood all my concerns completely. We then went to their location to choose the granite, sink, etc., to be installed. I liked her attention to detail during this process and during the installation. The installers arrived on time, did a great job including whatever was necessary to make the countertops fit in properly with the little quirks of my kitchen. They were pleasant, polite, and professional the whole time, and left after having cleaned up any mess that was involved in the installation. I have absolutely no questions about using this company again. In fact, I am thinking about changing out bathroom countertops soon, if budget and everything else allows for it and I will certainly call in Stone Sea. An excellent choice.

They had a good selection of remnants and gave me several samples to take home and consider. The customer service was very good. They listened to what I needed and it was easy to call them and communicate my needs. When they came out and measured, the vanity wasn't up against the wall yet. So, they had a person come out, cut the wholes, and got the vanity in place! When they did this, they noticed that the backsplash needed to be 3 inches instead of 4. He went back and recut it right away. I was pleased with all of their extra steps and how well it all went!
