Description of Work: We used Angie's List to find a new AC services company. We selected Hungerford based on recommendations and on availability of a special price promo. Experience was much better than I could have imagined. I didn't know there were still companies like Hungerford. In 3 words; professionalism, courtesy, and value. 2 weeks after they installed our new upstairs unit, our downstairs unit stopped cooling. I called for help at 9am that morning. They said they would try and work me in that day. I got a call at 1pm from a Hungerford repair pro that had some extra time left over from a job near my address. He stopped by and had our unit repaired by 3pm. Turns out that a recent lightning storm had fried a relay. Very simple and inexpensive fix that my old company would have exploited towards a major repair. Not Hungerford. Hungerford fixed for less than $250 and within 6 hours of calling for help. Description of Work: I've used Hungerford for a.c., heat pump and boiler service for about 10 years, always with very good results. In 2014, when I needed to replace the two a.c./heat pump units that came with my house when I bought it in 2003, Hungerford helped me evaluate my needs. After comparing several different companies, prices and service I kept with Hungerford, who installed (and continue to maintain) two Carrier units that have worked very well since then. They also have given excellent service over the years, on a "niche" high-efficiency gas boiler I bought in about 2003 - there were only a few such products on the market then, and the one I bought had quirks. They worked with me and the company when things (twice) went awry, to my satisfaction. In the last two years, and with a second, new control board they replaced under warranty, my boiler has worked flawlessly. Despite those problems, the gas boiler has saved me a ton of money over ten years.

Description of Work: This company had been working on one of our heat pumps. Finally decided it had to be replaced. They were extremely professional. Called us back immediately when needed, explained in detail why and how the work would be completed. They were always on time with their house calls. Servicemen were extremely polite and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this company. Friends of ours have also dealt with Hungerford and were also very satisfied with their service.

Description of Work: (The cost quoted is for a Munchkin high efficiency natural gas Heater (purchase and installation), but not for annual maintenance/service contracts for the Heater or for two heat pump/air conditioning units that Hungerford also services.) Services performed: 1. Routine maintenance, usually annual, on two older Carrier heat pump/air conditioning units, used mostly for air conditioning. 2. Installation and annual maintenance on a Munchkin Heater (e.g., "furnace."). I live in an older frame house with old insulation, a slate roof, 19 windows, and poorly-fitted storm windows. When my old furnace died in 2004 thanks to tropical storm Gaston and 3 feet of water in my cellar, Hungerford installed and now provides maintenance for a natural gas high efficiency Munchkin brand Heater. Hungerford has kept my two heat pump/air conditioning units and my Munchkin Heater working since 2004 and my fuel costs low. The Munchkin has been problematic. When "Gaston" took out my ancient gas furnace & I told Hungerford I wanted high-efficiency natural gas furnace, they researched, recommended & installed the Munchkin before many better-known companies were offering similarly efficient products. When working well it is outstanding, but it is balky, occasionally quitting, and I have had to replace its electronic controller twice. Fortunately, the second time was within the warranty period. I recently checked the web, & bloggers were full of stories about this model Heater's problems. It is no longer in production. Regrettably, I didn't know that in 2004, and neither did Hungerford. Hungerford has run interference in obtaining necessary parts, has always been prompt and reliable when called, and has always been able to fix it. Not counting my annual maintenance contracts, Munchkin repairs over eight years have cost me about $850, mostly thanks to having to pay for one of the two new controllers.

Description of Work: I had them come out initially to look at my AC unit which wasn't working properly. The repair man was there a little early before I got home from work but waited for me. He was very polite and thorough. He seemed genuinely bummed to tell me he couldn't fix my 14 year old system but attempted to refill it with coolant to help as much as possible. He referred me to the sales guy who was very friendly and willing to come out including evening hours. Gave me an honest estimate and I felt like he was a straight shooter. They came out two days later to replace the system. Everything is working well and my new AC is ice cold :-)
