A snake pit of an organization, especially amongst it's “leadership”. One was formerly employed by this morass of knuckle-heads. Let me make it clear: I'm a great employee who believes in honesty and hard work. They'll work you hard a Cross Creek for sure, yet honesty (and honor for that matter) is something they lack. Do not work for this company. There's still 50 hours of labor that I have yet to be paid for from this organization. I'm only sorry for wasting my valuable time with them. I'm just worried about my brothers who still work there! Most of their labor force, perhaps 90 percent even, are men from El Salvador, or other South American countries. Why we had to urinate in water/soda bottles in the back of truck-trailors when there were plenty of public restrooms nearby is beyond me. Furthermore, they tended to keep us in the back of the building out of sight, and out of mind, of any customers. I understand that “If a man will not work, he shall not eat”(2Thes.3:10), but I just pray that my hispanic brothers are kept safe and taken care of. It's hard to support a company such as this. Do not work for this organization.

The boys at Cross Creek hooked me up with a very professional patio. I looked through the landscapers available on Angie’s list. But Cross Creek was the only ones that had pictures of patios and chimneys they had done and also the prices. All on there website. Didn’t want to hire someone without knowing that they had built an outdoor chimney before.

Our experience with Crosscreek was great, starting with the estimate and continuing through the work and even the final billing. We got exactly what was promised in their proposal and estimate. The crew did an outstanding job in building our walkway and the billing process was super easy because they use an online payment system. Our neighbors have given us glowing compliments on our new walkway and we couldn't be happier with the result.

Shrubs replacement was great. The front yard was supposed to have been graded and seeded. We got some seed, but the front yard is filled with rocks and large chunks of dirt. Part of the front yard was not even seeded. We feel that we paid a fortune, and our yard does not look much better. Very disappointed.

We have an annual contract with them. They just started up again on Monday. They do good work. A couple of times a year they trim the bushes and things like that; yard maintenance. It's all built into an annual contract. They don't service us every month - like, they don't mow the lawn in December - but we pay them every month and it's just an equal dollar amount for the work that they do eight months a year, nine months a year. I think more than anything, periodically I run into one of the management staff; they come by and check up on everything. It's like every now and again I'll see a guy walking around in my yard and I'll go out there, and it's like a Cross Creek management guy - not part of the normal crew that comes in; it's one of the owners or co-owners or a manager. You know, there's different people, but they come out and they inspect all the work and they make sure that everything's getting done the way it needs to get done. Just every now and again I'll see somebody walking through my yard and I'm like, who is that? And he's got a Cross Creek shirt on, so obviously he works for the company; it's just one of their service guys. He usually comes probably like two or three hours after they leave.

Workers arrived on time as scheduled; had a nice start with good progress during removal & preps.then developed some confusion as to materials to be used (size & shape of boulders, plantings etc.) company was responsive and tried to correct the situation as needed. All went well with the exception of minor issues, which the lead person did all he could to accommodate. Work was completed timely. Only concern I still have is about the Boulder wall, presently unstable and requires additional realigning / adjustment to stabilize. Some of the stone pavers are cracked over the last few months, which is disappointing! I'm hoping these wou,d be taken care of by the company. I would like to point out that the company's Landscaping Supervisor was very helpful & knowledgeable. I'm hoping to work with him again pending resolution of existing minor concerns.

When they first finished the project I sent them an email saying, and quot; Please, please tell me you're not finished!and quot; The garden was plain and my mailbox area was totally ignored. My and quot;walland quot; turned out to be about ten medium sized stones. They came back out to put down some more mulch and plants (for an additional $100). I was still not happy with the outcome but I said to my neighbor at least the corner looks a lot better than before. Within a month, most of the small plants were dead or dying and grass was growing wild through the mulch. I sent them another email telling them that my garden was looking awful. I was told that they will send someone out in September. SEPTEMBER! So I have to have an ugly garden all through the summer! Grass continued to take over and all of the small plants were dead. I was angry to tears. I believe I was treated this way because I'm a single, female homeowner, and a senior citizen on top. I doubt if a man would have been told to put up with it until September. Well, September is here and someone did come out. I didn't even notice the little they did until the young man who mows my lawn told me that someone had planted some tiny plants. They didn't dig up any of the dead plants, nor did they do something to keep the grass from growing through the mulch, nor did they replace the dead plants around my mailbox! NEVER will I deal with these people again, nor will I ever recommend them especially to single, female and/or senior homeowners!
Description of Work: Provider was asked to landscape a small corner of my front lawn. They were to plant a tree and some bushes, build a wall to avoid run off, put down some mulch to keep the grass from taking over the spot. They were going to make the area around my mailbox look very, very nice. They gave me an invoice listing the materials and the labor. Materials were $1,088; labor costs were $1,600. I thought labor was a bit high for such a small patch, but I was willing to pay it for what I thought would be a spectacular garden.

Response from Cross Creek Nursery & Landscaping
We certainly don't like to see an upset customer and are usually caught off guard in these rare instances. The work was done as originally agreed upon but unfortunately the garden was never tended to after the installation. We have since replaced the plants that died and even taken to spraying the garden for the weeds came up and put down some additional mulch. We pride ourselves on doing are customers right and have a wonderful track record in doing so.

Don't expect responsiveness and you will not be disappointed. I might shop at Cross Creek only because I love some of their flowers, but I would not recommend them for any services based on the lack of ability to be responsive. Perhaps they should train the people who are there answering the phones to be able to answer customer questions.
Description of Work: The quality of the products is very good at Cross Creek Nursery. I have been a loyal customer when it was a much small business. However, I have found the level of service terrible. Unfortunately, the quality of service has not been able to keep up with this growth. As a working professional it is very difficult for me to work around their hours.Over the past couple of years I have attempted to inquire about services only to be sent to voice mail and have calls returned days later, or send an email only to receive a response that does not answer the questions asked. Yesterday I tried to call about purchasing yard mulch. Once again, I was sent to voice mail. I called back, and the employee took a message -my call was again not returned. In frustration I sent an email from their site which went to the vice president who did call me immediately, and was very decent about listening to me voice my frustration, but never offered an explanation as to why this happens. This morning, I tried to use the option for live chat - around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, only to be on the chat system waiting for over five minutes only to give up. I tried calling again, only to have my call dropped. I think I need to find another business for my landscaping needs. Cross Creek is a bit more expensive than other businesses. I can only draw a conclusion based on my own experience. Products are very nice, but the service receives an F. This is disappointing. For me it was about convenience and the fact that I have been a long time customer.

Mark Macauliff did the estimate and was very accomodating to meeting offsite due to my work to deliver it. Price was the best out of three bids. Project started on proposed date, but did take a bit longer than originally planned. We noticed that the paver colors agreed upon did not really match the house once they were installed, and Mark and crew did not flinch when we ask for them to be changed out. Next batch matched, but a subsequent order was the wrong color so we had to wait for the order to be picked up, the correct one to be ordered and redelivered. The lead craftsman was punctual, very polite, and extremely hard working in the brutal summer sun. He was also very attentive to our concerns. Only real issue came when we hit the firepit and sitting wall area, again, a delivery of the stones did not match the rest of the batch, then the firepit was not done out of a kit, so it was at first very rough hewn - but not in a good way. I took pictures and emailed them to Mark, and he promised to order the correct stones, and a firepit kit and have it completed within a week. He was true to his word and we are extremely happy with the end result and price we ended up paying. Highly recommended and we would use them again.

Austin Cutter was our contact and he was very professional throughout. He arrived on time for an estimate, gave us a professional plan with everything itemized. We chose to do part of the overall plan. He gave me a number of dates to choose from and his team from Cross Creek Nursery showed up on-time and completed the work in less than a day. The head of the team gave me a thorough description of how to keep the new plants alive over a drought period, fertilizing in the spring and trimming. Austin followed up after the installation. Extremely pleased with the entire job and will hire them again to complete the overall plan
Description of Work: Hired Cross Creek Nursery to rebuild stone swale and improve a large planting bed in our yard. It involved tearing out an old stone swale and installing an enlarged one. Also involved planting about 25 ground cover plants and about 10 bushes as well as mulching. Also, old stone from swale not used in the new one removed and grass seed planted where yard disturbed.

Andrew was quick to meet me and walk my property with me so I could point out the things that were important to me. Cross Creek offers different levels of maintenance, and we chose the maximum. I had some questions that I needed clarified, and Andrew was quick to return my emails and phone calls to answer them fully. I feel their maintenance 'menu' is not as clear as it should be, but if you have any questions, just ask for clarification.
Description of Work: We signed a one year full-service yard service contract. This included fall leaf removal and 2" of mulch in all our beds in early spring. Lawn mowing, bed edging and seasonal shrub trimming during the growing months. Weekly maintenance during the growing season (including spraying gravel paths for weeds and removing windfall debris).

We are absolutely thrilled with the results of this project and the process was smooth and completely problem-free. Wendell was a pleasure to work with, from her initial visit to the finishing details. Her design was wonderful and beautifully presented, and she worked with me to revise it numerous times as our thinking on the project evolved. Mike did a great job of managing the project, and Billy patiently answered all of my questions about the irrigation he had installed. The transformation is almost unbelievable -- from an eyesore of bare earth and rampant weeds to a lush retreat. Cross Creek installed a rich variety of shrubs, trees, and perennials, a beautiful waterfall, and a walkway. We spend time on our deck looking over the garden and listening to the sound of the waterfall every day now. Additionally, I have received outstanding customer assistance from the bookkeeper when I called to ask a question about my bill, and from the staff at the nursery when I visited to purchase some stones. I cannot recommend this company highly enough.

Unlike a number of other companies I contacted, Cross Creek responded immediately. They also came out to give the estimate when it was convenient for me. They responded very quickly to all subsequent communications and questions. The work was performed on schedule and exactly as we agreed upon. Despite pulling large shrubs, planting new ones, transplanting a rose and adding mulch, the garden was immaculate upon completion. I was very pleased with the work.

Communications between Andrew and his team just didn't happen. I requested that my crepe myrtles not be trimmed both to him and the lead on my lawn care. When they started to trim them we caught them just in time. I requested that other shrubbery not be trimmed but we didn't catch that in time. Other requests never made it from Andrew to the team regardless of whether they were done verbally, through email or both. The lawn mowing was not done with care. My Bermuda was always scalped in spots no matter how many times I pointed it out. When I observed them mowing it was obvious that time was the driving factor, not the quality of the job. The grass trimming was done so closely that it was literally killed. And never let them spray weeds in the flower beds!! Absolutely no care is taken as it was done when the wind was blowing and the killer went all over the place. Everything would have died if it was as strong as it should have been. The responsiveness to comments and complaints was literally non-existent. I called the president (Andrew's father) and a promised return call was never made. At this point there was no attempt to satisfy me in any way. When I indicated that was going to discontinue their service no attempt to retain me was made or questions asked why I was leaving. The chemicals that should have been applied to my lawn never killed a single weed. They were much worse over time. Based on my new service I know how effective weed control should be.
Description of Work: Complete Lawn service. The price was $330 per month. This supposedly included weed control.

Response from Cross Creek Nursery & Landscaping
Based on our initial meeting in which the customer complained about the previous vendor incessantly, and his unrealistic expectations, we decided it would not be a perfect fit. We reluctantly decided to forge a contractual maintenance agreement that we abruptly canceled after one service due to his unrealistic expectations and his overbearing nature. A year later he approached us and said he wanted to try again working with us. After about 10 months we decided it wasn't a good fit. We service over 120 accounts in the Richmond Area (many for over a decade) and we received as many complaint calls from him as the other customers combined. We again decided to move on.

They did a good job. The planner who worked with me was very easy to work with. However, we came up to the house and he did not have the plan with him. This was one of the things, which put him in a wrong place. Other than that, I thought it was fine; the plants are all still alive. In terms of price, I do not have a thing to compare it with. I would probably use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Cross Creek Nursery & Landscaping. I had them do some work couple of years ago nothing recently. I spent $2300 for the work done. They planted a tree in the front yard, they planted some evergreens around the mailbox, they took out a lot of the shrubs from above the house the builder had put in there, they put ground cover in part of the bed and then they redid the two sides of the bed.

They were very professional. Mark is great to work with and made some excellent suggestions on what to put in the area to add the privacy we wanted. He also worked with us to divide the project into three increments so we could get what we wanted and stay on budget I was somewhat disappointed with the amount of mulch that was applied. I felt it was a bit skimpy since in no time I had to weed the area. The response to my concerns was mediocre and I have decided not to use this company for future projects.

The service was around $100 for the planning but you can use that $100 towards purchases of plants. Then I went to the nursery to look at and select the plants he recommended. The nursery is beautiful with trails and ponds and a very good selection of plants. The staff is friendly and helpful. Overall a very good experience. The only problem I encountered was the wrong maple tree was planted which they promptly replaced and the crepe myrtle was planted too close to the house which they also resolved.

It was a little disorganized. I don't think I got a good grasp of what the designer was talking about. He showed up without the design plan so some of my plants are in the wrong place. They did transplant 2 small shrubs to the backyard at no cost which was nice and they were very easy to work with. I would use them again but would double check what I was getting. This was probably my fault.

I used the company to install a small walkway and stoop for the front entry of my house. The project went very well so I called them again to complete the patio hardscaping project I had been planning. True to form, the project when smoothly. Mark is super easy to work with and flexible. He drew up several design options and worked to lower his pricing. He allowed me to delay my project several times so I could complete some necessary pre-work. The installation was completed on time. I would definitely use Cross Creek again.
