Workers arrived without proper tools smelling strongly of marijuana. Produced an enormous amount of dust and debris. The owner promised to come back and clean, but didn't. It cost me nearly as much to clean as it cost for the job.

I was interested in a price quote for gutting and replacing my master bath. My call was answered and it sounded like I may have called at a bad time or something. I asked who I was speaking with and was told it was "Ginny" who was clearly irked at me for asking that question. At that point, I said I'll take my business elsewhere and Ginny was more than happy with decision. If I can't be appreciated before the sale, how will they treat me afterwards?? Good riddance.

The initial install by Chesterfield Tile went OK in May 2015. Eight months later, there was a leak under the shower again. It was not a drip-drip sort of leak this time, It was more of a steady stream - thankfully into an unfinished basement. The cause was identified as the failure of the new shower pan installed in 2015. This was an unexpected experience and it could have gone better. Pros: The owner came promptly to inspect the issue. Replacement was scheduled for 2 weeks later. The crew who removed the tile installed in 2015 and installed new tile did a good job, in fact it looks better than the original job done in 2015. Cons: The owner never apologized for the shower pan failure or the inconvenience to the residents. We were told the crew would be there between 8:30 and 9am the 2nd day to grout the new tile but as of 1pm, no one had come. I called the office, who had to check and call back. Later, they called and said someone would come between 2 and 4pm. Someone came to grout at 3:30pm. I really wanted to like this company but over the course of 3 jobs in 1 year, 2 out of 3 had below average outcomes.

The job was done by 3 different pairs of tile folks. The first pair left the job site at 9am, said they were getting materials but never came back. Another set came on Saturday, said they'd be back on Sunday but did not show up and did not call. A third group finished the job. The quality of the work was OK but there was poor communication from both the on-site folks and the office, and poor professionalism. I did not like how a sub-contractor was used for this job rather than their usual professional employees. The sub-contractor had the nerve to try to get me to hire him as an individual next time (though he was the one who left the job site and didn't come back). I have hired this company for 3 jobs for my rental properties - the first 2 went OK but this 3rd one was a mess.

The original installer that was sent to the jobsite had a family emergency on the 2nd day of the project and had to leave, another crew was sent asap. CTC does not use subcontractors with the exceptions of certified electricians. CTC also does not work sundays unless set up in advance. Typically CTC has different crews that specialize in different aspects of the trade. It is not uncommon for different crews to work on the same job. The work was performed in a timely manner and end result was excellent. The occupant was great to work with. The only hold up was the shower door that was provided by Ms. [Member Name Removed], which the dimensions were given to her at the beginning of the project. We provided her occupant with temporary shower rod and curtain for the couple of weeks it took for the door to arrive. CTC wishes her all the best with her future projects. Richard Gooden

After reading a lot of nice reviews for Chesterfield Tile here on Angie's List, I was looking forward to getting this smaller job done, because I have two bathrooms at another house that I wanted completely tiled afterward, and this made for a good test before shelling out more money for a bigger job. First, the good: 1). The price was good, in my opinion 2). Everything from initial contact through sales visit and estimate went great. 3). The two guys that came out to perform the work were nice. The disappointments: 1). Chesterfield Tile selected and installed a color for the walls that I didn't agree to. The shower floor and floor tile are fine though - the problem was just with the walls. When I called in to point out the issue with the tile color on the walls, that is when things went downhill, and I lost all confidence in their company. The owner tried various tactics on that call to force me to accept the wrong color including gruffly grumbling "read the contract". Fact is that contract didn't mention any color - we had agreed verbally on the tile's color, and I took the owner at his word that he would do what we agreed to. To his credit, but only after a long and ugly argument, he did eventually agree to replace the wall tile at his expense. My problem was I had lost all confidence in him at that point. I let them finish up the work at that house, went to their office to pay what I owed, and politely fired them. 2). (Warp ahead a few days) The people living in that house (I just own it) waited a full week for the grout to dry before using that repaired shower. Upon first use of the shower, the formerly free-flowing and working drain only let water out very slowly. Long story short, the Chesterfield Tile workers had dropped, or maybe swept, some grout, tile fragments or other debris into the open shower drain, which almost completely clogged it. That cost $412.94 to fix (replace clogged pipes/trap). I have the original clogged parts and pictures of what the plumber found, should the company make the mistake of challenging me, or we end up in court for some reason. Like I mentioned earlier, I had fired them earlier, and am done with the company forever - which is a shame, because I really need a good tile contractor. Back to square one on Anglie's List for me!

[Member Info Removed] contacted my office, needing someone in regards to a shower leaking. At the appt it was explained to [Member Info Removed] the process to repair his shower as economically as possible without complete removal of shower. I told [Member Info Removed] since he had white accent tile on the bath floor we can use white in shower stall floor and if possible find a good match to wall tile. After searching all available resources none was found, only option was to use several rows of white tile around bottom of shower as [Member Info Removed] did not want to do entire shower. Common Sense would prevail with this being a rental property to finish quickly as possible. [Member Info Removed] called and stated that he did not want the white tile upon which I informed him that there wasn't a choice if the existing tile wasn't available, I also told him he was more than welcome to go to a local showroom and select a replacement if he wasn't happy with the white tile. He stated that he did not want to do that. I did not know how to respond. I have never had a situation where my customer did not want to select the tile but got angry because he wasn't happy with the one I selected for his 30-40 yr old rental property. My only concern was to have the shower back in working order for the current occupants as most homeowners would be highly appreciative. As far as drain is concerned we cap off all plumbing before we start any job. I can assure you we do not sweep debris down a drain. I have yet to see pictures and would like to see them. Also, $400.00 would have cleaned all drains in home which I'm sure needed it on a home of that age, That pretty expensive for one shower drain. I would also like to speak to the plumber to see exactly what was found and repaired for $412.94. Chesterfield Tile is a professional and award winning company with 3rd generation employees and will do everything possible to make sure our customers are 100% satisfied. I wish [Member Info Removed] and all future companies that deal with him the best. Thanks, Richard Gooden

Rick was our project manager, was easy to work with, knowledgible, gave good advice, listened to my wishes, and was cheerfully flexible when I changed my mind about some parts of the project. He gave good advice re toilet choices, and about on-line sources for tubs and hardware. For the cabinet portion of the project he worked with Better Kitchens and Baths. I was not familiar with them but they turned out to be great to work with as well--I'll write a separate review for them. There was a little mix-up initially on getting them together on their estimates, which delayed things a bit, no big deal, but after that things really went very smoothly. Rick's office staff and construction quys were unfailingly courteous and pleasant to work with. The bathrooms look great and the whole project was fun. Highly recommend these folks.

These folks are great. They put in new tile floor in kitchen, 1/2 bath and laundry room. Got a couple of quotes and they were most reasonable and seemed most knowledgeable. Did job as scheduled. Workers (most are related) were polite and hard working. Cleaned up very meticulously after themselves. I had a couple minor items for them to come back and tweak, which they did with no attitude and seemed to genuinely want to do a great job. I would absolutely use them again.

THE JOB TOOK LONGER THAN I WAS TOLD, THE MEN CAME WITH THE WRONG TILE AND WITH THE WRONG INFORMATION, AND HAD TO GO TO THE STORE TO BUY THE CORRECT TOWEL BAR, SOAP DISH ETC. BUT MY MAIN COMPLAINT IS THE SHOWER FLOOR. I PICKED OUT A MARBLE BASKET WEAVE PATTERN THAT HAS 3/8 INCH BLACK SQUARE IN THE CENTER OF EACH DESIGN. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE GROUT HAD A SEALER IN IT. AFTER 5 MONTHS, THE GROUT WAS TURNING YELLOW, AND AFTER PUTTING ON MY GLASSES AND INSPECTING THE FLOOR NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE BLACK SQUARES WERE MISSING, AT LEAST A DOZEN WERE INSTALLED CRACKED OR BROKEN AND SEVERAL WERE NOT FLUSH WITH THE FLOOR, MEANING THEY WERE PUT IN WITH PART OF THE TILE STICKING UP. I CONTACTED CHESTERFIELD TILE, AND ONLY AFTER WAITING THREE WEEKS WITH NO RESPONSE, I SENT THEM A CERTIFIED LETTER. THE OWNER FINALLY RESPONDED BY E-MAIL AND SENT SOMEONE OUT SEPTEMBER 30 TO REPAIR THE SHOWER FLOOR. HE DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB OF IT, HOWEVER, HE USED THE WRONG COLOR GROUT, DIFFERENT FROM THE WALLS AND MISSED SEVERAL AREAS OF THE FLOOR WITH THE NEW GROUT. I E-MAILED THE COMPANY SEVERAL TIMES, SENT ANOTHER CERTIFIED LETTER WITH NO RESPONSE. I FINALLY CALLED AND WAS TOLD BY THE LADY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE THAT MR. GOODEN, THE OWNER WAS NOT GOING TO RESPOND AND THAT I SHOULD GET SOMEONE ELSE TO FIX THE FLOOR AND THEN HUNG UP ON ME. THEIR COMPANY HAS A ONE YEAR GUARANTEE ON PARTS AND LABOR AND THEIR WEBSITE STATES THE JOB ISN'T COM;PLEAT TIL THE CUSTOMER IS SATISFIED. I PAID THEIR BILL WITHOUT QUESTION, BUT NOW THEY WILL NOT FIX WHAT WAS THEIR MISTAKE TIMES TWO.I ALSO CONTACTED THE GROUT COMPANY THAT THEY USED AND WAS TOLD BY THE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE THE GROUT HAS AN INHIBITOR IN IT BUT IT STILL NEEDS TO BE SEALED, WHICH CHESTERFIELD TILE NEVER DID.
Description of Work: i HIRED THIS COMPANY TO REMODEL MY BATHROOM. THE OWNER CAME OUT TWICE TO MEASURE, BUT HIS ADVICE WAS NOT CORRECT, ESPECIALLY REGARDING THE HEIGHT OF THE NEW FAUCET.

Response from Chesterfield Tile Co Inc
Chesterfield Tile Co., Inc. 131 Granite Springs Road Richmond, VA 23225 November 26, 2014 Angie’s List To Whom It May Concern: Chesterfield Tile did a bath remodel for [removed member name] in February 2014, invoiced March 6, 2014 in which she promptly paid the bill upon satisfaction of completed project. Chesterfield Tile started and completed project in the agreed time frame between both parties. Mrs. [removed member name]selected all material in advance from local tile distributors; plumbing and hardware fixtures including towel bars and soap dishes were supplied by Mrs. [removed member name]either from online distributors or local home improvement stores. Chesterfield Tile was not asked to make selections, only to pick up material selected and purchased by owner. After 5 months, Mrs. [removed member name]stated that she put on her glasses and noticed cracked and missing marble squares and yellow grout. Chesterfield Tile then sent an employee out to address the situation. Upon inspection the cracks turned out to be veins natural to marble and heavy soap film covering the floor, which is the reason for missing mosaic pieces and yellowish color on grout. Our employee cleaned the floor and advised her on the cleaning products to use in the future. Chesterfield Tile only uses Tec power grout or epoxy’s that do not require sealing and is stain resistant. This does not mean it is maintenance free. Proper maintenance with routine cleaning in accordance with stone specific cleaners will keep her floor bright and new, looking like the day it was installed. Natural stone does require a little more diligence to maintain over ceramic and porcelain, this may have been a poor choice for Mrs. [removed member name]. Chesterfield Tile stands behind our workmanship 100%. If Mrs. [removed member name]has any issues in the future within our scope of work, Chesterfield Tile will be there to assist her. If Mrs. [removed member name]would like to make another selection for her shower floor we will help her out with labor cost. Sincerely, Rick Gooden Chesterfield Tile Co., Inc.

They had to remove 2 layers of floor and that part became much more involved than what anyone expected, but they stuck by their price and did it. They did an excellent job on the floor and the back splash is something I show off to guest, the tiny cuts they took the time to do made the outcome one I am proud to show off. I would not hesitate to recommend these guys to anyone.

I found them based on reviews. They did our back splash before so we knew how they work correctly. Hopefully, we would like it. They didn't do the floor here before. They were helpful in selection of tiles. They just go to either these two places and talk to either of these two people at each place with an allowance and just pick something else and ask for what we do. They contact the tile place and order it.

Headline: The company promised a 3 week complete renovation from demolition to checklist. They did it. I was very skeptical based on the issues others have had with renovation timeframes. But the work was completed on time, the job was flawlessly done, and the estimate of cost was completely accurate. They are able to provide such a quick turnaround because they are a full service company. They have their own electricians, plumbers, painters, tilers etc. The workers are polite and friendly, and they clean up after themselves every day! I especially appreciated the creative recommendations on design and color made by the company's owner. I would highly recommend this group. In fact, we also had them renovate our master bathroom in August 2013 and we were again very pleased with the work.

Bathroom is about 8x8. In brief, CT removed and replaced wall and floor ceramic tile, installed cement board floor and walls. Installed new shower door, towel racks (I supplied) and shower hardware (CT supplied). Installed new valve behind shower wall. Reinstalled toilet. Original estimate was 5700 based on standard tiles but I opted for marble which added 2500. Tile crew worked 7 days. On day 8 plumbing crew finished up. Quality of work is A+. Quality of people is A+. Daily cleanup, and hauling away. Had another bathroom remodeled by a big retailer. They sent a jack of all trades guy who I thought did a good job. However, CT takes the craft to a new level. They pointed out errors the retailer guy made. With CT you get a 2 man crew that just does the tile. That's 14 man days of craftwork so you get your money's worth. They also send in a plumbing team where the work requires it. Definitely superior to the jack of all trades approach. You pick the tile you want from a huge selection at 1 of 2 local showrooms. Much better than choosing a limited number of samples from out of a suitcase. The new marble bathroom looks spectacular. Definitely worth the extra $. Lots of compliments.

Chesterfield tile installed ceramic tile in my bathroom. We started off a little rough. They were quick to come see the job I wanted done, but I had to call when I didn't get the estimate when promised. They said people had told them their emails sometimes went to the customers junk folders. While we were on the phone they sent the job quote again and it immediately came through. Since the quote had the promise date I assume it was a technical error. On the day of the job I had to call to see what time to expect them. Once they were here they did an excellent job of communicating the progress of the job. The were careful, put down material to protect my floors. They did have to leave the job twice to go get materials for the job. I asked to have one tile re-cut because it was too much gap in the corner. When the job was finished the floor looked good.

I had a midrange bathroom remodel of 2 bathrooms. I received estimates from 3 companies. Chesterfield Tile was the middle priced one, but after speaking with Rick I felt confident he knew what he was talking about. From start to finish, the job was great. They started the job on time, they were extremely neat (I could not tell they had been in the house until I checked out the progress). All of the crew worked their tails off. After chatting with the tiler and cutter it was obvious they take pride in their work. I got an update of progress regularly, little add-ons were done without incident. Chesterfield Tile is fabulous, and I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. A quality tile job that I love, toilet and fixtures without a problem. I used Morris for the tile, and they too were wonderful. Great prices and knowledgable staff. I am very happy with the remodel and wish I had done it sooner. Thank you, Angie's List!
