+ -1 moreThis was a first-rate company. Mr. Williams delivered exactly what he promised. His team arrived early to do the grinding and breakdown of the mortar and later in the afternoon the other team arrived to set the bricks. Both teams cleaned up behind themselves as well as the property. Mr. Williams came out to look at the work himself. I was well-pleased with the work and look further to more business with this company in the future.

+ -1 moreIt didn't go well for me at all, he said he hurt his back and could not start work for at least 4 weeks. I gave him the time. He never got in touch with me so I had to email him. After some back and forth on the phone he said he would come out and look at the job. I'm really not sure when he came out, all I know is I was not here to discuss things with him on site. He emailed and said he would send an estimate.. Two weeks went by. I again asked for estimate and he had sent it to the wrong email address. Once that was corrected I received the estimate where he said he's not recommending doing the work as requested therefore he doesn't feel responsible for the results. Plus I thought his estimate for the entire job was too high at $1000.

+ -1 moreI had spent too many hours removing loose mortar plus enough to be able to remortar. Decided I wouldn't be able to match existing color (only steps needed work, house front was fine.) A.W. came in and doubled the prep work I had done using better tools and then came in and reset loose bricks and repoint all joints. It looks really good and hard to tell it is 20 years newer than the rest of the house. From saying, "Go" to being finished was four days.

+ 0 moreMy home is 25 years old and they did an excellent job of matching my bricks and the mortar so that when the repair was done, it looked like it blended well. They showed up on time and they did the demo work and took extra care to clean up after themselves and started and finished the job when they said they would. The foreman was sure to meet with me and he wanted all of my feedback. He wanted to make sure I was 100% satisfied before he would accept payment. The price didn't change and stayed true to his quoted price. They exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: Fixed crack in the wall. They repaired the mortar joint around the rail. They took a grinder around the entire house, ground out the joint, cleaned it out, and re-tucked it all with new mortar. They repaired various cracks in the mortar in my walkway. Cleaned out expansion joints and sprayed new expansion joint sealant so that water and animals wouldn't get back in it. Anywhere there was the slightest degradation I had them tighten up everything on the house - stairs, etc.

Description of Work: Alan came and looked at project and gave feedback on possible solutions. Was not your average project and was really a subjective repair. He provided may options and we resolved to continue to look for possible solutions to the issue. Was extremely knowledgeable and provided several good solutions. Very professional.

The owner even came out after the work was done to inspect it and make sure that we were happy. I would definately reccomend this company to anyone who needs masonry work done.

+ -1 moreExcellent experience. Alan responded quickly to give me an estimate on repairing several areas around my home. The next day Jerry and his assistant came on schedule and made the repairs. They did an awesome job. I found Jerry to be a true professional. He cut out several mortar joints that were cracked and matched the mortar as close as possible. He even did a couple of areas I had not seen that he found. He did not charge me more. He has his assistant clean the areas behind his work. I was very pleased with their work and would highly recommend them. Alan thank Jerry and his assistant for me, they are super, true professionals. I will recommend your company to anyone I run into that needs your service.

+ -1 moreAfter meeting with the proprietor he to ld me he would get back to me with a quote. Days went by and I heard no news, which is somewhat typical of contractors. Then weeks passed and I still heard no word from the contractor of the estimate. It has been over a month since we met and he has not returned any of my phone calls to give me a quote for the work we discussed. Was a terrible experience and I would not recommend anybody using him as he failed to have the common courtesy to even get back in touch with me. I would highly recommend using another mason as this one fails to be a professional in his field.
Description of Work: The provider showed up and performed a walk through of the residence. We spoke about all my options and he seemed very knowledgeable.

Description of Work: The roots of a tree caused the steps leading to my front door to heave to the side. I contacted AW Masonry to replace them based on a listing in Angie's list, and decided to use him due to his willingness to work with me on the price and his confidence in his ability to replace the steps to my satisfaction. He arrived when promised, worked very hard while he was here, and installed a set of steps (complete with "curbs") that were a great match for the 1920'2 era set that had to be replaced.

In addition to the work specified in the estimate that he wrote and I agreed to, I asked him if he could add on some minor repairs to other sections of my 10 year old concrete driveway. He was extremely flexible in accommodating my requests and did the extra work for a very reasonable additional cost. I chose not to rate Alan's work for several months to be certain that the concrete held up well over the seasons and use. It looks as perfect as the day after he poured it. I am getting ready to contact him for a repair to my chimney.
Description of Work: Demolished a section of concrete on driveway and poured a new section. Also did some other repairs to the driveway.

+ 0 moreA.W. MASONRY & RESTORATION did a very good job on time and on budget. They were workmanlike and friendly. They had to work under some tough weather conditions with high heat and rain. Also working in The Fan district of Richmond is difficult as parking is at a premium and neighbors are very close. They worked through all this obstacles with patience and professionalism. Alan was always available to talk to when questions came up.
Description of Work: Removed existing old brick front steps and walkway in order to build new steps. After steps were removed they dug and poured a footing. A rack of steel was installed 2 ft on center. Concrete was poured to 3000 psi footing mix. Steps were built with a riser height of no more than 5 inches. New brick and mortar to match existing as close as possible were installed as a finish. Upon completion they washed down steps using a mild acid. New metal railing were installed. Also Removed and replaced a busted concrete sidewalk on side of house. Concrete was removed and disposed of off site. Dirt was removed in order to install a sub-base using 21- B's at 4 inches thick. Concrete will be 3000 psi with fiber in the mix. Concrete will have a broom finish.

At the last minute, after the demo work had begun, I asked him if he could patch another bad spot in the concrete and if he could deal with a rotten control joint. He took care of both extremely well and at a very reasonable extra charge. This was a relatively small job and he took it on, which many other concrete contractors might have refused to do.

When the job was finished he asked for less than the agreed price because the demolition of the old sidewalk was easier than he had expected. He even took time to play with the dog.
