To Whom It May Concern, This is the worst company I have ever done business with and you can guarantee as soon as my tanks are empty I will be canceling my service!!!!!!!!!!! On Dec13 I went to bed with heat, I woke up with no heat. I go out and look at my tanks...one tank shows empty the other tank shows 80%...why am I out of gas? I schedule a delivery Dec 21. The gas gets delivered...I am not home (had no idea when they were showing up because they gave me a 5 day window). I get a text saying my gas was delivered....I think yay I am good to go, but to my surprise they had locked my tanks because my tanks were empty (again one tank showed 80%). I did not go look at my tanks..why would I...I received the text so I am thinking something is wrong with my boiler. I call a technician to come and look at my boiler. He checked and then went to check on the tanks and saw the note on the tanks saying they were locked so he couldn't do anything. So I call on Dec 26 to make an appointment to have them unlock my tanks..the incompetent folks that answer the phones said my appointment was on Dec 30 8-12 but I received an email saying it was on Tuesday January 2nd. There is no way I would have accepted that date when I was on the phone because I am a school teacher and that was my first day back to work after winter break...so now I had to take off work. I was told I was the first appointment at 8:30 but by 10 still no technician. I started calling trying to get a hold of someone who could actually do something which as you know is impossible because this company doesn't want customers to talk to managers (incompetent workers). The technician FINALLY showed up at noon. He was literally here for 10 min and I received a bill for over 300$ for that ten minutes. The bill states 99$ for dispatch fee 220$ for gas leak check!!!!!!!! When you give a window of 5 days as to when they are going to deliver gas HOW CAN YOU EXPECT FOR THE CUSTOMER TO BE HOME???????????????? so if the customer is not home then they get fined/billed $319 because the technician had to come back. I could understand fining the customer if they said they would be home but they weren't but I had NO IDEA when they were coming to deliver my gas....If I had known, I would have been there. I hope and pray that this company goes under and every management level and above lose their job. I have read your reviews after experiencing this and they are horrible so hopefully my wish of this company going under will happen. I will be posting this review EVERYWHERE I can regarding this company!!!!!!! FYI...before the company got rid of the local offices this company was good.

6 different calls with AmeriGas using their primary number. 11/22 - promised it would be delivered within 7 days, probably much earlier, guaranteed a call before they came RESULT: No call, no delivery 11/30 - promised it would be delivered TODAY, guaranteed a call before they came RESULT: No call, no delivery 12/2 - promised it would be delivered "today or tomorrow", guaranteed a call before they came RESULT: No call, no delivery 12/5 - promised it would be delivered "today or tomorrow", guaranteed a call before they came RESULT: No call, came 3 days after they promised. As a result I was not there so they could do the safety check so they left the propane interrupted with various dire warnings if I were to turn it on myself. 12/12 - promised the safety check would come 12/14 very first thing (I emphasized I was leaving on a trip and was now delaying my trip until 9am on 12/14 - they said no problem it would definitely be done by that time) 12/13 - called to confirm the appointment and was told I had no appointment scheduled. The customer service rep was very polite (as all have been) and offered to schedule an appointment on 12/16. I pointed out that I would be on my trip at that point and that I had been promised an appointment on 12/14. She said there was nothing she could do - 12/16 was the earliest appointment she had. I pointed out that this was the 6th time AmeriGas had promised something and failed to keep their promises and that I needed to speak to a supervisor. Multiple (!) times she tried to tell me that 12/16 was the earliest and that the supervisor was busy and she couldn't get through and it would be better to just accept the 12/16 appointment. Multiple times I pointed out that I no longer believed what customer service was saying because of the evidence (see above). Eventually after a long (!) wait she came back for the 3rd time and told me the supervisor was unavailable and offered to give me a callback "within an hour". I gave her my number and got her name and am now waiting for the supervisor callback. I am now beyond the time they promised the supervisor callback and - guess what? - no callback. Not even surprised anymore.

I had a faulty starter switch and so they troubleshot it for me and I actually ended up fixing it myself but they diagnosed it for me. They also service the guest logs and they also put in the big propane tanks. They will clean your gas logs too. They are a big propane provider company. I've got a hundred gallon tank in my yard and they've got those bigger tanks that they put in if you use propane for your cooking and what not but I only use it for the fireplace. I'm kind of stuck with them because I'm on a year contract. They charge you $100 for the tank per year so if I want to get rid of them, I've got to wait till April and say, come get your tank. One time I came home and my tank was gone. The tank is about 5 ft tall and about 3 ft wide and it's round and it sits next to the house and it's full of about 80 pounds of propane in it. They don't top it off. I came home and thought somebody had stolen my propane tank coming to find out that they had taken the tank for I don't know what reason but they left no notice and they did it when I wasn't home. So this is 3 years ago now. I've held that against them ever since. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd switch providers because there are several propane providers in the area. Everything else they've been fine.
Description of Work: They come out and put propane in my tank once every 3 months.

I am researching other propane companies and fleeing from Amerigas. I will say that there are some very good employees who are trying to make a difference in how Richmond, VA's office is run. But they can't succeed until the rest of the local office does its job correctly, too.
Description of Work: Amerigas bought my former propane provider, so I inherited their service. I have had so many problems with this company in the last couple of years that I cannot begin to describe them all. There are no words to descriibe how bad the Richmond office is, despite the main office's acknowledgment that there are problems and they are fixing them. Definitely among the problems is overbilling at least four times. A lack of communication between the deliverers and the office is another. If there was a grade below "F" it belongs to this company.

Amerigas bought the company I had service with, Synergy Gas. On their first delivery, they came out on their own and topped off my tank with 124.5 gallons of propane. Today the bill came and they charged me $559.75. The gas was $4.31 per gallon which is over $2 higher per gallon than several local companies. In addition they charged $9.59 HazMat fee, $8.15 Fuel Recovery Fee, and $5.54 City Sales tax. Other companies don't have anywhere near those add on charges. Plus, I don't live in the "City" and can't figure out how they arrived at that tax. I called their billing department today and questioned the charges. The lady asked me some questions to verify our account and then after putting me on hold for a couple of minutes offered to rebill us at $1 per gallon less. I agreed to this with the stipulation that I would be taken off automatic delivery. However, as soon as the bill is paid, I intend to go to Southern States who sells the propane gas at a current price of $2.29 per gallon, more than $2 cheaper. After researching Amerigas on the internet and talking to suppliers, I have found out that Amerigas is the largest propane gas company in America and almost certainly charges much higher than anyone else for bulk propane delivery. I also found many instances, too numerous to count, of consumer complaints about the company.

They let the gas run out on my tanks and it burnt the motor out on my generator and I had to pay 2k to get this fix. They didn't seem to care about this. I called them a month ago to pick up their tanks and they just picked them up the other day. This was after I called customer service to find out what was going on.

Everything & everyone connected with Amerigas has been an absolute fiasco & a time consuming mess. Money always has to be shelled out to correct wrongs when they do something.
Description of Work: I tried for over a YEAR to get someone to talk to me about a $450 bill they created that was not a result of any deliveries as I was trying for that year to get a delivery to no avail. So what happens when I refuse to pay for something that I didn't receive and they refuse to deliver on? They turned me over to a collections company. They don't answer the phone nor do they return calls. How do you keep a business in operation when you function that way? I have had problems with them since day ONE (June of 2006). To add insult to injury we bought a gas range and they told me to call one of their sub-contractors, Ryan Snyder, to connect the line from the gas logs to the range. OMG the damage!! This was a phenomenal screw up that, again & as usual, Amerigas is to blame for & we will have to pay royally for it. This guy had NO idea what he was doing...just like the company that referred him to me. Companies & individuals like this cause the likes of Mike Holmes (Holmes on Homes-HGTV) to flourish & get rich. Somebody has to correct the evils of this world. If he gets rich...it's certainly owed him. We'll be filing a BBB report & would encourage everyone to do the same & also do an Angie's list review.

Used this company out of plain ignorance to the fact that I had much better options at my disposal for residential propane. I wish I had known my neighbors better as I had just moved into the neighborhood and after sharing my disgust they let me know they had bad experiences ranging from duplicate charges to late deliveries. After much time dealing with their residential prices far higher than a normal markup from the wholesale market prices for propane, late deliveries resulting in running out of propane, and abysmal local office customer service we changed companies. Now 7 months later I am receiving the refunds due to me from the service disconnect and pump out of propane. This refund only came after many times of BBB contact, FTC complaint filing, and finally a complaint filed with the local court clerk's office requiring the company to legally respond. Hope to impart my lessons learned from this experience. As I began to detail my experiences to the BBB for my area they referred it to the central BBB office because so many complaints had been filed against the company. They were tracking the issues centrally to determine if this warranted escalation to the FTC for consumer fraud investigation. My opinion...this company does not care about their customers and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. Their definition of customer service is to ignore problems and take your money to the bank. Use whomever else you can find besides AmeriGas!
Description of Work: Used this provider for residential propane service for ~2 years. The propane was used in heating our home and for hot water. Amount spent is a single charge for one of the last deliveries we received and does not reflect the thousands of dollars spent when they provided us service.

We moved into a house with an Amerigas propane tank hooked up to the fireplace (the only appliance in the house that uses propane). After numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact Amerigas to begin a contract with them (we were bounced from rep to rep. and manager to manager each assuring us the contract had been sent out) we decided to ask them to haul their tank away so that we could have another company come out and bring a different tank. This saga went on from July 2006-Jan 2007. Amerigas refused to come out and remove their tank. We were bounced again from supervisor to supervisor who assured us it would be gone tomorrow; they told us this for months. The new propane company came out and unhooked Amerigas' tank and put the new one in. The workmen told us that apparently Amerigas had thoughtfully taken the time to come out and put a LOCK on the tank so that we couldn't use it. We began writing the Better Business Bureau and within two weeks the tank was gone.
