He fixed the problem and no further assistance was required.
Description of Work: Checked AC Unit and determined that it needed a small amount of freon. That fixed the problem. I had a Homowners warranty so the visit and service only cost me $50.

Our heater stopped working Dec. 22 2012 which was a Saturday. Our home warranty company uses Americool, so they responded quickly same day that we called and found that we needed a new exhaust fan. It was ordered and when the fan came in they came back and installed. Everything went great for us, no problems at all. Technician was nice and polite. We only had to pay a 60.00 callout fee.

Needless to say we did not use this scrupulous company.
Description of Work: Americool was referred to us by our home warranty company (First American Home Warranty). We have two units. The technician said that one needed to be replaced and one repaired. First American agreed to repair the one unit, but not replace the other due to dog urine damage. The technician made no mention of dog urine. When we disputed the claim, First American overturned the claim as we told them this was impossible as we didn't own a dog. The technician called us to let us know that there were additional items not covered by the warranty company. These additional items totaled $1121. I will only share the charges for the unit that needed replacing as after talking to a friend who does hvac work there was no need to price the second unit. They quoted: 1. $95 for new pad under unit2. $150 for support feet3. $189 for electrical modification (placing whip on unit)4. $59 for locking caps Now for the actual cost of these items: 1. $23 for new pad2. $2 each for feet3. $21 for electrical whip4. $16 for locking cap That was all we needed to know to decide to not deal with this company. You do the math. They must have a doctor performing the labor.

Response from Americool Heating & Cooling Inc
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to you; I understand your frustration with our company and with the Warranty Company. We deal with customer frustration on a weekly basis because of the decision "MADE BUY HOME WARRANTY COMPANIES". We are required to list things found on units and send in pictures for them to make a decision. The home warranty companies make the decision on what will be repaired and what is paid for not Americool.

They tried to rip me off for over $350! The office called and told me that the evaporator coil was on order, but there were a few charges that weren't covered by my warranty: 1. Disposal of old evaporator coil ($95)2. Recovery of the freon ($195)3. Locking caps - VA code requirement ($59) Let's cover these individually: 1. Tell them to LEAVE the coil with you. Take the coil to a scrap metal yard and they will PAY YOU to take the coil! Why would you pay $95 for them to do it for you?? If you don't want to deal with it, tell the installer he can have it...I'm sure he'd be glad to take the cash when he returns it himself. 2. When replacing an evaporator coil, the installer can 'park' the freon in the OUTSIDE UNIT, do the repairs, and then release it. This is a very common method. No sense in charging $195. 3. Locking caps are a code requirement for NEW CONSTRUCTION, not existing units! PLUS, the Chesterfield County website has a list of companies that will put locking caps on for FREE! Don't pay for this!! I ended up paying NONE of these charges, only the $60 trip fee required by my warranty company. Don't let them rip you off! On a separate note, the installer was EXCELLENT, very friendly, did great work, explained the situation, was on time and professional. Just wish he'd go work for another company.
Description of Work: I called my warranty company (First American) when one of my A/C units stopped working. They hooked me up with Americool who sent a tech to check out the unit. He inspected the unit, found it low on freon, and used a freon detector to find the evaporator coil was leaking. They ordered the part and installed the new coil. Everything has been working fine since then.

I spent under $10000 on that service. I would tell others that they should double check Americool’s work because they left a lot of junk in my crawl space. I contacted them about it and they did remove it. They also said that the duct work was complete, but when I went down there to double check and it was not complete and said that it was not complete, so they completed it. The pricing was pretty good.
Description of Work: I got new air-conditioning,a new furnace, and some new duct work from Americool Heating & Cooling Inc. and they finished the work in January 2010.

Americool Heating & Cooling Inc. Company was referred to us by our home warranty company. We were not very happy with them. The technicians took a very long time to fix the problem we had with the heating & cooling unit. They got the wrong part which delayed the service for another week. It turned out to be very inconvenient for our tenants. It was raining in the morning on the day they said they would install the part. However, they cancelled their appointment. It had stopped raining after an hour and they could have showed up later that day but they did not. It took days for them to show up again. The main problem was that after so many days of waiting, they decided that they did not want to continue on this job anymore. They just stopped responding and never completed their work. Our home warranty company and the tenants are very upset about this. I would not use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Americool Heating & Cooling Inc. Company in September to get a heating & cooling unit fixed in our rented property.

These were all handled very well. The problems were found very quickly and fixed without any issues. Each time a different individual was involved and each was very qualified to complete the task at hand.
Description of Work: They did work several times through my home warranty ($60 copay each time). These included replacement a a breaker in my air handler, sensing of the loss of vacuum in my heating computer.

The servicemen arrived on time and were courteous and professional. They detected a leak in my system and topped it up with freon so that I could continue to use it until I replaced a coil. When they left, I realized that the air coming out of the vents was WARM -- my house got up to 81 degrees. I called their "emergency" service -- didn't get a call back until the next day when they told me I'd have to call the home warranty company in order to get them back out. When they finally did get back out the next afternoon, the serviceman realized that they had forgot to reconnect something at the compressor. It was an error on their part and a 30 second fix that caused me a very hot day and another afternoon off work. The warranty work remains to be done. The warranty company will pay for parts and labor for replacement of the evaporator coil, but Americool wants to charge me an additional $830 for services not covered. I'll be getting other estimates!
Description of Work: Company performed warranty work on my Carrier AC unit.
