It was fantastic. Thorough, friendly service with and I was impressed with the attention to detail, especially when I am not someone that knows the ins and outs of homes. I felt more confident knowing how to take care of our new home after following Jiri, our inspector, around and learning from him. He was honest about what things we need to do without creating worry.

The lead inspector arrived early. The pest inspector also arrived and completed his inspection timely. The lead inspector investigated a large number of items. He discussed the ones he considered most important with me. He completed and sent me his full report in a few hours. The depth and quality of the inspection gave me confidence.

After looking at several home inspectors in Angie's List, decided to go with HIA. Jiri followed up and answered all the questions I had (and I ask a lot of them), and most importantly, it was over a weekend. On the day of the inspection, he had gone to the property early, and when we showed up - he had already done the roof and most importantly, the exterior. He found critical issues that were crucial part of our decision. He was extremely thorough, professional, friendly and produced a very detailed report. We didn't end up buying the house that Jiri inspected, because of inspection findings - he is going to inspect the next one we bid on.

The team at House Inspection Associates is top notch. They were very prompt and thorough on the day of inspection. We received a detailed Inspection report the same day. In general the experience was good but there were a couple issues that in retrospect make me think less of the experience. The report was thorough and the inspector, Jiri, was early. He walked us through the house inspection process and gave us significant information on the details that ended up in the report. Two things came up that I am disappointed about. The drain near the back door was clogged and we had flooding get during an early spring rain about four months after the inspection. Jiri checked all the faucets and made sure they all worked but because there wasn't a faucet near that floor drain it wasn't checked. In the end it but us in the rear. I managed to clear it with some basic drano so it would have been nice to ask the seller to take care of that. The second issue was the inspector couldn't get on our roof to do a roof inspection, even though it was part of what we paid for. His ladder wasn't tall enough to reach the roof of our town home. He acted surprised there wasn't access from inside the house. I've now been in a dozen town homes in this neighborhood and none of them have roof access from inside the house. He should have known he would have needed a taller ladder or offered to come back. Instead we had to hire a roofer to come out and give us an inspection for $100. It turned out the roof was shot and we got the seller to pay for a full replacement. If we didn't pay the extra $100 it would have cost us $8000. I just think they should have offered to pay for the roof inspection or come back out and do the job we paid them to do.
Description of Work: The provider gave me a basic home inspection when I was under contract.

Thank you [Member Name Removed] for your comment. I understand that a basement floor drain had a small clog, we unfortunately can not inspect underground drains since they are not accessible or visible. Licensed plumbers offer sewer scope service, which we recommend in our report, but the cost is around $400 - $600, which exceeds the $440 fee we charged for the entire home inspection. Also, we can not bring water through the house and try to pour it down that drain since it is still owned by the seller. A home inspection is "visual" in nature, which is explained at start of each inspection. We always try to access the roof either with a ladder unless the house is very tall and our ladder doesn't reach, or if it is unsafe, such as when the roof angle is very steep or if made from material such as slate, which could be damaged by walking on it. Flat roofs our usually accessed through a hatch at the attic, but sometimes those are drywalled over. Not making excuses, but a home inspection is general inspection in nature, so we don't have all the tools that for example a licensed electrician, HVAC contractor or a licensed plumber would have on his truck. Same is true for roofers, they carry much larger ladders than we do and then they have to attach a rope and a harness to the roof in order to avoid a fall. That said, we did inspect the front of the roof, which is slate and mentioned in the inspection report. We always try to improve our services and that is why we now also use drones as a last resort to access the roof, chimneys and gutters.

BEWARE!! they did an "inspection" of the house I was in the process of purchasing and based on the report I received and the reaction of the inspector during the inspection, I decided to buy the house because there was no indication that any major issues were "observed". they said in the report that there was evidence of previous water damage but nothing "observed" now - suggest you caulk around the windows and have your contractor check." that was the extent of the "warning". Fast forward two months and long story short the entire back of my house was basically falling down because it was rotted. I called House Inspection (David Vlcek) and they came by the house. When we showed them what we found their comment was that a home inspection is only a "visual" inspection. the fact that there were issues behind the wall that could not be seen was not his problem. if he mentioned "mold" he said that the seller would sue him. I was the one who hired him! not the seller!! how can you be an inspector and not see that the house was falling down. $150K and 8 months of repairs later I finally was able to move into the house. if you want an inspection that is of the quality of house Inspectors Associates just walk around the house yourself and take a look. Doesn't matter if you are qualified or not because you will "see" the only things they are going to find and they will not work for you, they are just trying to Cover their A#@

Home Inspection Associates was great, and their top-notch work saved us a LOT of money and pain in the house-buying process. David performed a full inspection of the house we were considering buying, and he was incredibly thorough. He produced a 60-page report detailing everything he found -- ranging from large large structural issues with the roof deck, to fine details like a chipped tile in the shower. He was professional, showed up early each time we scheduled him, and did an incredibly thorough job. Jiri was easy to work with to schedule their appointments, and they were extremely flexible and accommodating. David even showed up the next day when we were in a race to put an offer down on a house. I wholeheartedly recommend Home Inspection Associates!

Extremely professional and helpful technicians. David completed our home inspection and he was thorough. I've contacted them since the inspection and they are still responsive and helpful. Would definitely use again and highly recommend.

Jiri and Daniel were great! Jiri saved us from falling into a money pit as first-time home buyers. Despite a shady homeowner shadowing us through the property and trying to distract me away from the inspection, Jiri was very thorough and methodical in checking everything and explaining to me the issues he identified and those that were likely to pop up down the road. He explained things that would likely turn into huge costs and minor issues that I could easily take care of myself. We received the inspection reports quickly and they were clear, concise and contained clear, color pictures of everything he identified. After walking away from that first property we contacted HIA again to inspect the house we ended up buying. Daniel came out for that and he was just as timely, thorough and professional as Jiri was on our first inspection. If we ever decide to sell, we would happily call on them again to do our pre-sale inspection as well as that of our new home. The price was a tad higher than we expected but I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. The home inspection also came with some extras that have come in handy such as appliance recall updates and a membership to the home owners network. I have even contacted Jiri months later with questions and he was happy to address my concerns. Great company!

Thank [Member Name Removed]! We are little higher priced than some other inspection companies in Virginia, but the reason is that Virginia still DOES NOT require a license to perform home home inspections, hence there are many low cost, poorly qualified home inspectors. That will most likely change soon. We are state certified company, which at this moment is only voluntary. Another difference between us and most other companies Norberto briefly mentioned is that we add the following for no extra cost: • 100% GUARANTEE- If you are not 100% satisfied at the end of your home inspection, you will pay nothing. • FREE 90-day Home Warranty ( $0 deductible ) • FREE 90-day Sewer and Main water line warranty • FREE 90-day Mold warranty • FREE 5-YEAR Roof leak protection coverage • FREE RecallChek – identifies recalled appliances (potential fire hazard) • FREE Home Owner’s Network membership (tech support for the house) • Drone roof and chimney inspections • FREE Phone consultations • Infrared thermography shows hidden problems • ONE-STOP SHOPPING: Radon, Mold, Indoor Air Quality testing & Termite Inspection

I'm so glad I listened to my gut to get a home inspection for our new construction and extremely satisfied that I hired HIA for our pre-drywall and final walk through. The owner Jiri came out for my pre-drywall and was very thorough in his inspection. I figured I would just stay out of his way but he was totally open to let me walk along with him while he did his job. He took the time to explain to me every issue he came across and provided solutions and tips on how they should be addressed by the builder. Once he was done, he was able to send me a detailed report that same evening which I was able to immediately relay to my project manager. The PM accepted every suggestion laid out in the report. This type of service convinced me to use them again for the final walk through. There were some schedule conflicts on my part for the walk through but HIA was very accommodating to work with my schedule. This time I had the pleasure of meeting David who was just as professional as Jiri. He really took the time to check each and every detail of the house spending at least 3 hours doing so. He was able to answer every question I could come up with and also put together a great report for me to forward to the PM. This allowed my wife and I to feel more prepared and well informed when we conducted our walk through with the PM. I couldn't be more happier hiring both Jiri and David. Great guys to work with and their professionalism and expertise really shines through. Another great thing about using HIA are the perks such as recall-check for appliances, 90 day inspection warranty and the home owners network subscription for a year! Valuable tools and features to have. HIA is also there to answer any home maintenance questions you might have even after the inspections. I would recommend getting a home inspection for new construction and HIGHLY recommend hiring HIA as your trusted home inspectors! Well worth the money and will definitely use them during my 10 month follow-up. Thanks Jiri and David for a job well done! See you guys next year!

The inspection was scheduled to start at 1:00 and it did. Everything was checked from the roof down to the basement. The final report was extremely comprehensive and organized by "need to fix right away", "pay attention to", "maintenance items" and "ask the current owner about". Pictures were included of everything he looked at. This was the most thorough inspection we've ever had when buying a house, and while nothing he found was a show stopper I feel comfortable if there were serious problems he would have found them. We will use this company again if we move.

One aspect of the inspection is a check of all serial numbers for appliances, etc. We received a report indicating that our microwave, although new, had a factory recall notice, All other appliances were fine. We would never have thought that there might be a problem with a new name brand appliance. We were very satisfied with the company from the secretary who answered the phone, the owner who emailed us two or three times and our inspector. We felt it was money well spent.
Description of Work: The home inspector, David, did a complete inspection of a home we were considering purchasing including a radon test and termite inspection. We called on a Tuesday and they were able to meet us at the house that Friday. With assistance of our realtor he was able to enter the property and begin prior to our arrival. Upon meeting us, he reviewed all he had found and answered our questions before continuing the inspection. He was there approximately three hours and never seemed annoyed by our following him around and our endless questions. We received our report the next day. A few days after paying the bill, we contacted the company and David answered all our additional questions. The company provides additional services with each inspection.

Thank you [member name removed]. We have provided a pre-drywall inspection, final stage inspection and a Radon test. We have found many defects during our first inspection after which the builder changed the supervisor on site. The final inspection went much smoother as the new supervisor was very detail oriented and was able to finish the home in a much better workmanship. He also repaired the items we found. The Radon test came back higher than EPA allows and the buyer was able to remediate the problem before finishing the basement.

Jiri was really great. I called the day before the inspection date because of an issue with the home inspector I previously lined up. The office response was outstanding. They assured me it would be no problem to make the appointment early the next morning. THEN we got hit with about 6 inches of snow overnight. I couldn't get there...the builder couldn't get there...BUT Jiri was there early and was able to proceed with the inspection. The report he provided was very helpful in understanding the inner workings of my home. I was able to use the report as a tool to discuss certain items with the builder. Some of the items were modified, others served as a basis for further understanding of how the home was being built. I plan to use Jiri for the final inspection also once the home is fully constructed.

Thank you [member name removed]. Pre-drywall inspection is very important these days. It is not like buying a new car. The county inspectors are understaffed, and they are not able to spend several hours at each site as a private home inspector can. Most builders appreciate the report we prepare so they can make necessary repairs before the walls are covered with insulation and drywall. Then the problem areas are hidden from view and any repairs in the future will be costly.

Overall very good and very professional. A couple of minor things were potentially missed in the inspection, but these were not of material issue. Would use House Inspection Associates again. One small hint: it costs more for house buyers to get their termite inspection through the company, as they charge a small admin fee on top. So, to save a bit of money, arrange for termite inspection separately.

Thank you (name). We inspect the main components of a home such as structure, foundation, roof, heating/cooling systems, electrical, plumbing, etc. and don't report on smaller cosmetic issues unless it is a new construction. We also try to help out our clients by offering additional services, such as Radon and mold testing or termite inspection. Since our company isn't licensed in pest inspections, we arrange for a pest company to come out at the same time when we are inspecting the home and then add that report to our home inspection report. We charge only $10 over what the pest company charges us to cover our administrative cost. This $10 fee is not an important source of revenue, only a convenience for our clients not to have to call and schedule other service on their time.

Jiri went above and beyond a typical home inspection. Our home was under contract before we bought it but the buyers withdrew the contract. The house had a clean report from the previous inspectors. We bought in Jiri for our inspection and we were surprised at the level of detail Jiri provided in the report. The report was 60 pages long with very detailed pictures and descriptions of the problems. The report covered everything from holes in the roof that could let water in all the way down to aesthetic details and poor craftsmanship. We are even got signed up with a service that monitors all of our appliance models and provides us a regular report on any recalls or defects. As a result of the inspection, we had the sellers resolve several major issues like potential leak areas, incorrectly installed insulation, recessed lighting that was not designed to be used in an insulated ceiling, etc. Just before closing, we brought Jiri back in for a re-inspection. We found that most of the repairs that we requested were complete. With the follow up report, we were able to get an additional credit from the sellers to fix the other items that were not complete. There were several inspection companies we could have chosen. Clearly the previous buyers chose the wrong one. We paid a little bit more for Jiri's services over some of them but Jiri came highly recommended and the price was well worth it.

So I have been on the hunt for a new home since December 2012. Ever since then I've been totally glued to the HGTV and DIY networks on television. There is one particular show called "Holmes on Homes". All I knew was that I wanted someone that would give me a thorough home inspection the way the guy does on television. I hit the jackpot and was able to find someone that fit that mold for me. His name is Jiri Danihel. Not only was he punctual and extremely professional, he actually came out of his normal area of operation to help me out. You can tell that he is very passionate about his work and values you as a customer. He taught me things that I should look for and could spot "crappy workmanship" (his words) a mile away. He's really passionate about those investors that try to get over on you to just to flip a home to get money. The home that Jiri inspected for me looked superb on the surface however he was able to see things as needing a new roof, new hot water heater, safety issues, a beam almost collapsing to clogged pluming and being installed incorrectly. He is absolutely amazing. That house I ended up not purchasing so I'm gearing up to enlist his help yet again. As long as I'm in this area I will always use his services for anything dealing with my home and would recommend him to absolutely EVERYONE. He's awesome!!!
Description of Work: He performed a Home Inspection. I also requested a mold inspection however he was able to spot it immediately and refused to charge me for that service. Awesome!!!

Wow, thank you [removed member name]. I really enjoy my work and many times I feel like I sound like Mike Holmes. I just can't believe at all of the "crappy workmanship". An electrician, plumber or HVAC installer has to concentrate ONLY on their trade, AND THEY STILL GET IT WRONG! My overall experience with Home Inspection Associates was excellent. I was under very tight time constraints to get the inspection done quickly and Jiri was able to accommodate my schedule within 24 hours. Considering my new home purchase was in Berryville and he was traveling from Reston I consider this great customer service. Appointment was at 11:00am, I arrived 20 minutes early and he was already there inspecting the exterior. He spent approximately two hours going through the house and he was very thorough and seemed knowledgeable on all aspects of the inspection. He promised my inspection report would be available later that same afternoon and it was along with an appliance recall report about 24 hours later. I am very satisfied with his work my only negative comment (and even that's a harsh word) is the price. Other competitors were on average $100-$175 cheaper. Given his quick response and travel time I don't think this was an unnecessarily high premium to pay. Again, I'm merely pointing this out as an observation and in my particular case I felt this was a reasonable price to pay given my circumstances.

Thank you [member name removed]. Most of our home inspections more than pay for themselves, especially when the homeowner that has no experience, attempts to add or repair items around the house. Many times we are left scratching our head trying to figure out what the homeowner was trying to attempt and then have to recommend for a licensed contractor to repair it. We also always include FREE 90-day Home Warranty, FREE RecallChek – identifies recalled appliances and FREE Home Owner’s Network membership.

He was on time. He was thorough. The only thing I didn't quite like was that he used binoculars from a distance to look at the roof. I much prefer someone who actually climbs up on to the roof. My roof was in pretty bad shape. His summary could have been a bit more clearer.
Description of Work: He did a radon test and a home inspection for us.

Thank you (removed member name). We always strive to be as thorough as possible on all parts of the home; however, the material or the pitch of the roof will sometimes prevent us from safely walking on the surface. In those instances, we use binoculars, view the roof from a ladder or a window. When a roofing company works on a roof, they use safety harness attached to the roof which is not something we are able to do. We can't alter / damage the roof when the house still belongs to the seller. We of course also view the roof from inside the attic area, looking for leaks, structural issues, etc. We also always include FREE 90-day Home Warranty, FREE RecallChek – identifies recalled appliances and FREE Home Owner’s Network membership.
