This review is about a laminate countertop bought through Home Depot of Reston and manufactured and installed by Precision-Countertops of Chantilly. Note that Precision-Countertops makes and installs laminate countertops for many of the Home Depot stores in this area. First, about Home Depot; I talked to three sales people at Home Depot. The first was knowledgeable but a bit brusque. The second took my measurements and came up with the wrong total square footage – math error, resulting in a excessive price estimate. The third was not knowledgeable but at least could do the math right. He also was not familiar with the options available for the edges and backsplash. Anyway, I placed an order since I had my wife’s family coming in from South America and I need to get the job done before they arrived. The estimator from Precision-Countertops arrived. He was a bull in a china shop kind of guy. He looked at the new sink I had that needed to be installed and saw that it was going to be a tight fit. We discussed potential problems. Actually, the new sink was smaller than the existing sink. He did his measurements and explained the edge options that were available. I made it clear that the removal of the old countertop was included in my order – it was also noted as such on the invoice from Home Depot. Installation day came and my install was the first of the day for them. The man who took the final measurements, and a helper, was the install team. The first thing he asked me was if I was going to remove the old countertop. I told him no. He had written on the notes he took when he made the measurements that I was to remove the countertop. He called his shop, they checked the invoice and told him he was to remove the countertop. I left them alone while they worked. It turned out that the cutout for the sink was not made in the right place. They had to cut out portions of the adjacent cabinets to get the sink installed – a lot of cutting. When they had it installed, I came downstairs and they were sealing around the sink. I noticed that the edge of the sink, on one side, was slightly above the countertop – wasn’t laying flat. I was told not to worry that it would be okay. They left. My biggest peeve is that the back and side splashes did not meet each other ‘correctly.’ The pattern I ordered was a stripped one and the stripes didn’t come close to matching where the corners met. See the photographs. I called Precision Countertops and explained my complaint. A young lady told me to send pictures, which I did. I didn’t hear anything from them for several days so I sent another email with pictures attached. After a few more days I finally received an email stating that another company had done the manufacturing of the countertops (I doubt that). It also said that the manufacturing process couldn’t be regulated to match the stripes – I seriously doubt that. It also said that perhaps they could remanufacture the side and back splashes but there was no guarantee that the stripes would match. There would also be some cost to me. It said that she would have to get her boss’s approval to redo the splashes and to provide me with some cost relief. She said that she would write me back the next Tuesday after her boss got back. I wrote back stating that I was not satisfied with the work and I wanted to do something to get the problem corrected and that I would like to have the name of the manufacturer. I stated that I would be writing a review on Angie’s List and Yelp and I would prefer to use the manufacturer’s name and not theirs. I was never contacted by them again.

Initially, it went well. We were told by Customer Service to work with the Kitchen and Bath designer to set up installation of our vanity. The designer sent out a contractor the very next day, who looked at the work to be done and said he'd get an estimate to us quickly (via Home Depot). Two days later, we had the estimate, verbally, from the Designer at Home Depot. However, upon her telling us about the work to be done, we recognized that the scope of work did not include installing the shower bar. We questioned this, and the Designer said that she would contact the installer to get clarification and get back to us. Two weeks passed, without any updates from the Designer. We called her and sent e-mail messages asking for updates. We only received one response, in which she told us that she was waiting to hear back from the installer. Two more weeks passed, again with us asking for updates and not receiving any information. Now, it has almost been one month for us without a shower. We called and spoke to the manager at Home Depot, and he passed on our complaint to the Kitchen and Bath Designer, and we received another message from her stating that the installer has not gotten back to her. Again, another week passed, and we began checking Angie's List to get other quotes from installers, realizing that this was ridiculous, and we needed to look elsewhere for our installation assistance. Finally, we sent a message to the Home Depot Designer and requested our measurement costs ($45) refunded, and told them that if they did not do this, we would file a formal complaint with their Corporate Headquarters. She refunded our money, and again indicated that it was the installer's fault. Interestingly, after we sent the message asking for our money back, we received a voicemail from the installer's company, saying that they had just been contacted by Home Depot, about a question we had on the scope of work and installing the shower bar. We learned our lesson on this one, to never go with anyone without checking Angie's List first. We thought that going with Home Depot would ensure professionalism and quality, but it was exactly the opposite.
Description of Work: Coordinated with Kitchen and Bath Design center of Home Depot to have an installer put in a Home Depot purchased vanity. They were also to install a shower bar, and a frameless shower door.

The job was a mess, and lasted forever. I finally had to ask them to leave. Punch list made no progress - for everything they fixed, they broke something else. Anything that could go wrong, did. I can't recall any poorly done job being as badly done as this one. The fact that I would not use them again says it all. The contractor that they used was Al Ward construction. I would not use them either.

Overall the experience turned out great. It was a fantastic value in the end. What you have to do is take advantage of the Home Depot sales and special discounts. For example, free installation for three rooms or more and 10% off sales promotions. The carpet I purchased is on their in store displays in all of the local stores in Northern Virginia for 99 cents per square foot, but they obviously don't want you to buy it because none of the 7 stores contacted had any samples available. Again it was only because the Leesburg store manager found a hand full of samples in a storeroom and had the integrity to call me that the sale was completed. The bottom line is do some research on carpets to know what value is at the Home Depot store. Get at least three estimates to get a real feel for the carpet market. Once again hats off to the installation company ACS. They are the true professionals and know how to treat customers.
Description of Work: First of all the grades given in this review are for the most part a reflection of the carpet installer fro Home Depot in the Washington DC area which is American Carpet South (ACS). They are outstanding! As far as the actual sales department of Home Depot in Reston, VA is concerned I'd rate them as mediocre in responsiveness and professionalism. They never did get me a sample of the carpet I eventually had installed. It took the conscientious intervention of ACS to call around to other Home Depot stores to finally get me a sample before the installation. As a matter of fact the Home Depot I give kudos to is the Leesburg store. The manager (John) personally called me in response to ACS's inquiry and saved a carpet sample for me even though he had no personal involvement in the sale. The carpet manager department manager of the Reston store was basically worthless. She never did return my call or did she get me a sample.

A++++++++ OUTSTANDING SERVICE Ken in flooring handled our purchase, delivery, and installation of laminate flooring. It looks AMAZING! He was professional, prompt, friendly, and went the extra mile to show us ways to save money by doing certain things ourselves. He returned calls quickly and answered all our questions. I HIGHLY recommend Home Depot in Reston and Ken in flooring. Raphael was also helpful with getting my supplies and a delivery truck. That store is my new headquarters for home improvement/repair projects. I WISH MORE PLACES HAD SUCH EXTRAORDINARY CUSTOMER SERVICE!

First a distinction is in order. My ratings reflect the service I received at Home Depot, in the selection and measuring of carpets and laminate flooring. I am not reviewing the actual installation, which was performed by exceptionally polite and competent installers. More about that later. My experience from selection through measuring was frustrating to say the least and Home Depot, with a few very noteworthy exceptions, was incompetent and indifferent. Right up to when both floorings arrived at my door, I was uncertain that they got it right. The measuring was a fiasco and had to be done three times after multiple phone calls dealing with multiple people who just didn't seem to care. Throughout this whole process, only one person ever returned my call when he said he would, and it took another coming in on her own time to straighten everything out If it weren't for Tom and Madelina (I apologize if I didn't get her name correctly), I would have demanded a full refund and gone elsewhere. I selected different carpet for the upstairs and the downstairs. The carpet I selected for the downstairs turned out to be unavailable. I only found out about that just by chance a week and a half after I selected it when the second measuring was being arranged. (The change in carpet in no way contributed to the multiple measuring.) Then, the laminate floor that was delivered was labeled a different color and from a different manufacturer than that which I'd ordered. I had to stop the delivery mid-way to call Home Depot to check that it was the same thing as what I ordered. It turned out that it was but they should have warned me that it might be labeled differently. (Both companies are Pergo subsidiaries.) Also, be wary of the pricing. They advertised free installation on the carpet and a sale price on the laminate installation. However, then they add charges for every little step, including a separate charge for bringing the laminate from the curb to the inside of the house. Removing the old floor also is a separate charge as was disposal of the flooring. It all adds up and it is very difficult to tell if I saved any money using HD rather than a smaller, local company, or if in fact I paid more. I will say that at the end of this grueling process, we are pleased with the carpet and the laminate flooring. The laminate delivery was done by a very nice man who displayed patience and understanding when I stopped him from bringing it in the house to check on whether it was the correct flooring. The installation crews were very good, worked very hard, were polite and did a fantastic job cleaning up. David and Hector were particularly good at their jobs and pleasant to work with on the carpet installation. Alejandro and his team did a nice job, too, on the laminate. It was tough, hard work and they kept at it diligently, doing a very nice job on the cutting.
Description of Work: I had all of the flooring in my three level towhouse replaced. Carpet was replaced upstairs and in the basement. I had laminate floors installed on the main level.

There were 15 men ahead of me for the last generator and I asked the salesperson to please let me have it because my husband had a heart condition and I had just had neck surgery. I also bought a stand-alone air conditioner that will switch over to a heat pump with the flip of a switch. They went over and above. They even loaded it in my car. The way this guy knew their inventory and kept everybody in check.

I was thoroughly delighted with my flooring shopping and installation experience at the Home Depot in Reston, VA. The department supervisor, Angela Covington-tyler and her entire staff, patiently educated me on all of my flooring options, reviewing the pros and cons of using different materials in a basement. They set realistically expectations for the installation experience. The measurement person was punctual and professional. The installers were on time, they did a thorough job removing the old glue-down carpet and efficiently installed the new carpet. Without exception, everyone I dealt with was pleasant, knowledgeable and thorough. The install is complete and the flooring looks great! Good value and excellent customer service. All in all, a most impressive and positive experience! I would strongly recommend them as a vendor.

We had a free estimate from Home Depot for measurement of our front door. The measurement was dona but we didn't hear anything for a while so visited the store. Turns out we had to visit the store several times before the measurement could be validated and the proper door and other materials were ordered. Once that phase was done, the scheduling and installation of the door was professional and well exceeded our expectations.

I have a townhouse in Arlington, VA where the ground floor along with 7 steps needed new carpeting. I went to the Home Depot in Reston, VA where Ken helped me out. I was looking for the same type of Berber carpet that was currently installed. I explained that I currently live in the townhouse, but I plan to rent it out in the near future. I did not want anything too high end, but wanted durability. I also told him that I could tear out the old carpet myself and move all of the furniture. Ken was very helpful. He showed me several options for carpet and padding. He even built me an estimate of off my approximate estimate of 550 square feet before the sent a measurer out to my house. He said due to me removing the old carpet, my new installation would come out to under $1000. After our meeting we agreed to have someone come and measure. They were prompt and professional. After they measured, Home Depot called me a few days later to give me an exact quote. The quote came in under $900 for a little under 550 sq.ft. of Berber carpet with the 8 lb. padding. This included the basic installation fee of $137 (basic means no carpet removal and no moving of furniture). From there, Home Depot contracts with a third party installer to come and do the install. We set up a date for Saturday, May 21. The time frame was 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The installers showed up with two men at 9:30 a.m. They were very professional and very efficient. They were completely done by 1:00. They even vacuumed before they left. Upon completion, they toured me through the new carpet areas for my satisfaction. Once I was satisfied, they called Home Depot where I could confirm my satisfaction on the spot. They left a page with some phone numbers to call if I have any troubles. I am very pleased with the service I received. I will use Home Depot again in the future.
Description of Work: Had 550 square feet of Berber carpeting plus 8 lb. padding installed on the ground floor of my townhouse including carpeting 7 stairs. I removed the old carpeting and furniture myself prior to the install.

I spent about $3000 on the job. The granite was for the family room. I also ordered cabinets from them. Another company installed them for me. Later, their subcontractor came out and put the granite on top. I purchased finished cabinets from them. I was satisfied with both the granite and cabinets. They came out and did what they said they would do. Once the cabinets were installed, they came out and did the measurements for the granite. They ordered the granite and later came out and installed it. The process went very smoothly. They were very prompt and they answered my questions. They were effective and kind. Everything was good about them. I will use them again in the future.
