We are homeowners in Ashburn, VA and currently living overseas on military orders. We do NOT recommend work by James Fedick from Fedick Refinishing. On 5-7 April Mr. Fedick did a rushed and shoddy job staining/ power washing our deck. This coupled with his successful attempt to take advantage of our being overseas by saying one thing to our Management Company and something else to my wife and I...Mr. Fedick was able to acquire the check from our Management Company early Friday despite our agreement NOT to pay until we assessed his work on Monday. Mr. Fedick demanded from our Management Company he get paid up front without our consent. This put unfair pressure on our Management Company as we are overseas in a different time zone. They were unable to reach out to us given the time zone difference. According to our agreement, Mr. Fedick was expected to power-wash our deck on Friday April 5, allow time to dry, and stain on the 7th. He never showed up on the 5th at 11 am to power-wash, instead arrived in the afternoon of the 6th to power-wash. The forecast called for rain; however, Mr. Fedick went ahead with his plan to power-wash and stain. A true professional would have pushed off staining altogether with rain in the forecast. He was off to New York Sunday evening. Deck was NOT dry so he failed to see the results of his work. Our Management Company immediately contacted Mr. Fedick explaining our tenants noticed the water marks and other gross imperfections resulting from stain applied over wet wood and he claimed to have “not noticed because the work wasn’t dry when I left.” On the 8th, we called Mr. Fedick pleading that he return to our home to rectify the issue. Mr. Fedick verbally committed to returning within “3 weeks to clean up his work.” It was clearly a ruse to get off the phone, where he seems to have immediately blocked our phone number but did not think to do so with our Management Company. Three weeks later, Mr. Fedick has failed to get back to us despite repeated calls, emails and facebook postings. Ironically, Mr. Fedick used his work on our deck as an advertisement campaign via his Facebook which is truly baffling. We do not wish to see anyone else from the Ashburn community experience this hence the post. We, and our Management Company, kept records of our correspondence with Mr. Fedick should anyone wish to personal message us. We also notified the Better Business Bureau and taking further action.
