I signed a rental agreement to buy a barn, with $1000 down and the intention of paying it off soon after delivery. Delivery was timely; but, installer complained about "bonehead" builders who installed a faulty door and forgot to finish nailing down floor boards. Delivery man left without correcting floorboards so my husband did the repair - on a brand new building we just bought. The replacement door took about 3 weeks to build and install. ---> In addition to the faulty construction, My MAJOR complaint is with the owner of H & K Enterprises (perhaps a franchise of Shed Shop?). I wanted to make a full pay-off on the day the grace period was to expire. It was a Saturday, October 12. The local shop here in Powhatan was closed so I called the phone number on the statement. A gentleman named Ken? or Keith? - I can't remember - identified himself as the "K" in H & K Enterprises. I explained to him that I wanted to make the payment but the office was closed and there was no online payment option. He steered me away from a debit card transaction explaining that he would have to charge me a transaction fee if I paid that way, which amounted to several hundred dollars *in addition to the payofff amount of $3,300.* So I sent him a check that day and he agreed to waive the $15 late fee. The Post Office was closed that Monday for Veteran's Day and the check was cashed the next day so I got the full pay-off, as was billed on the then-current statement, to him as soon as was humanly possible. A few days later, I received the next statement that said I owed a full month of rent plus the late fee. I called "K" again and left a message asking that, since it was clear that I got it there quickly, the office was closed, et al, if he would kindly call it even. He waited THREE WEEKS to return my call only to tell me that not only was the rent due but that he would not waive the late fee as he agreed, asking me, "Why should I? You told me you were paying it off and you didn't." --- I paid $4,300+ for a shed that required repair both by my husband and a follow-up team. I relied on the honesty & integrity of a man who identified himself as the owner of the company. H & K never had to chase a payment from me as I paid it off in two checks: one for a deposit and one for the payoff. They never had to repossess the shed. Yet, they decided it was better to squeeze every single penny possible out of me than to have a satisfied customer.
