Excellent experience and workmanship. I had beautiful "new" tub on the date promised within the time promised (1/2 day) and for the estimated price, which he arrived at by looking at photos of the tub that I texted to him. I will definitely hire him again if needed.

Jesse with Surface Effects was very punctual and professional. I had a small cosmetic blemish/ crack in the base of an acrylic shower pan that needed to be inspected. Jesse was happy to accommodate my busy schedule and made himself available on a weekend. When he arrived and inspected the blemish, he did not try to up-sell me on a service that was not required. He was able to repair, color-match and seal the blemish very quickly for a very reasonable price. I would both use and recommend Surface Effects in the future.

This tub had been refinished about 6 years ago, but the spray attachment (heavy) had been accidentally dropped in the bottom of the tub and chipped the area around the drain. Bath Factor came on time, got right to work, and within two hours the tub looked beautiful and everything was cleaned. I fully recommend this company for any tub repairs. Very professional and friendly.

Workers showed up on time. The job was on the second floor and they used caution to protect my entranceway and stairs. The job took about 3 hours and the results were terrific! The tub sparkles! I would recommend Bath Factor to anyone who has an older tub that doesn't look so good any more. The chip repair was done well and I cannot even see where the chips were. Bath Factor does a great job, And I was able to use the tub the next day.

Jesse and his guys were teriffic to work with. He was extremely flexible from estimate through job completion. I decided that I would provide all materials and do the painting. He provided me with a list and amount of materials needed and offered suggestions regarding everything from design to quality of materials to be purchased, but only when asked. He and his guys were always on time, always courteous and professional, and respectful of our home. The remodel was estimated for 5-6 days and lasted into the eighth day, partly due to my not having some materials when needed. The rest of the extra time was due to Jesse's insistance on making the tile and plaster patching look perfect (for which I am very grateful). We plan on remodeling our kitchen in the near future. After this experience, Bath Factor will be the only call we'll be making.
Description of Work: Demo'ed and remodeled small bathroom. This involved the demo of 1930s floor and wall tiles, replacing with floor and wall tiles and b-board, r/r toilet, sink, faucets, medicine cabinet and lights, r/r radiator, and premium reglazing of cast iron tub. Bath/tub tile suround included a wall cutout and accent tiles.

Response from Surface Effects, Inc
[member name removed] received several visits from me, Jesse Walker, personally. Despite being pleased with my appearances and corrections, she would eventually call to complain about some other areas. I made 3 to 4 visits and each time she was pleased each and every time. [name removed] purchased restoration services but I believe was expecting features of a brand new product. She could not be pleased despite my repeated attempts. It is upon rare occasion that customers like this call and expect something other than which they paid.

They were able to pretty much exactly if you know what you're looking for, you can tell that it was done. But if you were just looking at the shower you will never tell that it's been done. I called different companies about this and most of them said that you will able to tell that there was a repair. Surface effects did it pretty much unnoticeable. Their price is competitive. They have a reasonable warranty on the repair. Most showers and tubs are made with the texture at the bottom of them. They could not replicate the original texture which I'm not surprised about. While the fiber glass material is curing they put something down and lift it up. I'm okay with it but other people may not like it. It's a little difficult to clean the floor of the shower. You'd have to use a spray to dissolve the substance under the shower. The guy who came out and did it was really nice and I liked to watch what they were doing because I was curious most of the time. He was here when he was supposed to be.
Description of Work: I had Surface Effect to come out in May 2010 to repair a couple of cracks in our master bedroom shower. It's a separate three standing shower that's made of fiber glass. This kind of thing over twenty years will fatigue and crack. So either you stand to put a new shower on or you repair it and we opted to repair it.

It is pretty expensive and we are just going to hold for now because we had some other expenses. They took measurements and we talked and then they gave us the quote over the phone. We plan to do the work in the near future with them. They were very friendly. They told us what they would use and the materials. They were punctual. The pricing is probably realistic based on another estimate that we got but it was more than what we thought.

Did not follow through after showroom visit. If they couldn't install the one in the showroom correctly, I was concerned they would not install mine correctly either.
Description of Work: Did not end up using them. The estimate was a good and professional and a good price. He encouraged me to go to the showroom and take a look at the shower materials available in person. The gentlemen in the showroom was not professional. He could not answer my questions. He kept trying to talk me into the new more expensive items that were coming in on Friday. When I was able to get him to show me the exact shower I was looking for, he commented that the one in the showroom had not been installed correctly. That the person used the wrong material on part of it. I decided not to use the company.

It went well. Took 4 days instead of two but end result is very nice.
Description of Work: Jesse made sure that everything was done on time and done the right way. We had our bathtub refinished and the bathroom tiles glazed from an ugly green to a nice white. We also had our kitchen counters refaced and other than a couple of small places where we need to reface again, work was really outstanding. Workers Link and Tony are goofy but they did a good job and no complaints here.

Owner was very responsive and professional. He gave good advice and a fair price. Had a two-man crew do the work. They were also prompt & courteous, but the pickup they drove was pretty beat up and let's say they were dressed for work, not to impress! (Those are the reasons for the B on professionalism.) They worked quickly and did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. The quality of the repair is very good. They had to mix colors to match the fiberglass. Other than a slight sheen, you cannot tell where they made their repair. Will use them again and have already recommended them to friends.

I am very satisfied with the outcome. The evening before the appointment, I learned that Jesse was sending "two of his best technicians" to do the job. I was disappointed that he wasn't the one performing the work, but optimistic that the gentlemen who came would do a good job. Jesse had promised to color-match the paint to match my new toilet. After doing prep work, the technicians called my husband to the bathroom to see if the paint color they had chosen was a satisfactory match. The comparison was between my toilet and a very small dot of white paint they had added some tan to. My husband couldn't tell anything, we felt it was their job to know how to match the paint. After the project was over, the paint was definitely not a match. We also had "dots" and "sandy" spots in the finish, and the shower head had leaked some water, leaving a significant mark. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't acceptable either. When I contacted Jesse, he cheerfully and immediately made an appointment to re-do the job. He came on a Saturday with the same two technicians. They completed the refinish job quickly and to our satisfaction. We were very pleased. While we would have been happier had he done the job himself in the first place, I suspect Jesse is trying to grow his business and the only way to accomplish that is to have trusted employees do some of the work. It's understanding that he must delegate and I admire how readily he stood behind the small trouble we had. I would highly recommend Mr. Walker and his team. The product he used for this refinish was top quality (we did a lot of research on the options) and is looks quite nice. He was prompt, reliable, professional, and ethical. I especially liked how well they protected my nearby fixtures, carpeting, the staircase, etc. They were very respectful of our home.
Description of Work: Surface Effects changed the color of my 50-year-old bathtub and gave it a fresh finish. We had just installed a Toto toilet and a new sink in white and no longer wanted a flesh-colored tub. The tub was in excellent condition, though, and just needed a new finish.

Price for the work was between high and low of two other firms I contacted. Based on favorable reviews here and reasonable price, I contacted Surface Effects to refinish the tub/surround unit. They did the work a couple of days after I contacted them and showed up right on time. (Another firm said it would be more than a month out before they could get here.) The tech masked off the unit, sanded it down, and sprayed it with the acrylic urethane finish. He cleaned up and left. The next morning I noted that the finish came out as an orange-peel texture rather than smooth, and that the tub surface felt like sandpaper. Called the company to see what they could do. They came back out and said the sandpaper texture was due to dried over-spray falling on to the wet surface of the tub and that the orange-peel texture was something that occurred once in a while. Seems to me that should have been mentioned ass a possibility before any finish was applied. They cleaned up the sandpaper texture and reshot the tub/surround. They laid on the finish heavily to try to eliminate the orange-peel. Unfortunately they laid it on too heavily and the result was drip, sags, and runs in the finish. Called them again about the unsat result of their second attempt. They came out a third time, sanded the surface down, and shot it one more time. This time the surface looked better - but still not quite what I had expected or hoped for. The surface has many little "pimples" in it and I am at the point that I think they can't make it much better (and still has a slight orange-peel texture - but better than before). Seems to me that folks have been repainting/resurfacing fiberglass boats and cars for years and that the results must be better than that which is now on my tub. I'm really disappointed that the surface isn't closer to a repaint job on a fiberglass auto body. I was not real happy with the amount of overspray that ended up on my sink fixtures, door knobs, etc. Reading on-line about the process and web-sites of other firms involved in this process, I had expected a bit more. Other firms mention recaulking around the edges of the tub. That was not done by Surface Effects (nor did they say they were going to do it.) I had removed all the old caulk around the tub/surround so that the finish could be applied to a clean, noncaulked surface. Not a big deal to recaulk myself, but it's just something that some other firms in the business seem to do as part of the package. I have no complaints about Surface Effects' responsiveness. They came out each time I asked them to and stuck with it until the problems were at least somewhat improved. It's just that the final product isn't where I'd like it to be.
Description of Work: Refinishing tub and shower surround. The tub/surround was a "bone" color that we wanted to change to match new fixtures going into the bathroom (white).

The tub looks fantastic! 58 years of wear and tear had tarnished its glossy finish and made it look rusty and yellowish. It now looks white and very clean. The process took about 4 hours and we had to wait 24 hours before we could use the tub again. I was afraid the process would dirty the toilet and tiles, but it did not. The crew did a good job of cleaning up. A 3-year warranty was included in the service.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced corroded drain in our 1950s bathtub, reglazed the tub, added a non-skid bottom, and applied new caulking.
