He took three to four days to give the quote. He gave us multiple options. He did not tell me how much the door replacement will cost, but he said how many people it would take to finish the work. He said it would take six to ten hours to finish the work and he would charge on an hourly basis. They checked thoroughly and told us where the damage was. The only problem was that it took longer than we expected. I will maybe use them in the future for a quote.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Mr Handyman of Fairfax & Eastern Loudoun Counties, but they said they would take a week to start the work. Since we were in a hurry we hired another company to do the work. The door was damaged and so was the hardwood floor inside and outside and underneath the door. He was to replace a few pieces of hardwood and also some masonry work. They were also to paint the door.

These guys came out within a day or so and got it back up with no problem. They were there when they said they would be, finished quickly, and knew what they were doing. They are great for those small, jobs bigger companies -- like a siding company in this case -- don't want. Their rates are a bit high but the dependability is worth it.

Went smoothly. They also sent pictures of the condition of the wood which was very helpful since it's hard to see from the ground. Some of the wood needs to be replaced so we will be calling this company again in a few months to replace the wood. They sent a quote on replacing the wood when they sent the pictures. Pleasant, respectful interaction.

They were on time, on price and truely professional. A second ballast went out two day after the first repair was done and it was an adjacent fixture. Our manager mistakenly reported it as the same light. This created a chance to see the true professionalism of both Yogi in the main office and Will their technician. Both were patient and sensible as I tried to get the facts as to if their work was defective. It was not defective! My manager was incorrect and because of their patience we were able to determine that. Will & Yogi are truely the best.
Description of Work: Mr. Handyman replace a ballast at our storage. on two different dates. The total cost for two seperate visits were $450.00. If both had been changed at the same time it would have been far less expensive.

I'm late filing this report but requested a finish carpenter for the molding work who took our molding apart and worked it making tighter joints with the correct miters. He also was able to assist in balancing out a dishwasher that was not installed correctly so that the dishwasher was secure to the granite countertop and was level. Also helped figure out why the new washing machine was walking accross the floor so bad in the spin cycle.
Description of Work: Had the Handyman fix bad miter cuts on kitchen moldings, and reset under counter dishwasher and washing machine in new house were it was improperly installed.
They did a good job. I will probably use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They helped us with a lot of work when we were getting ready to sell our home. They did a lot of carpentry work, painting, and small plumbing fix-ups.

He seemed to me that he would be qualified to do some jobs and a lot of jobs. I felt like the job we wanted done was too large for him so we felt like we should have gone with someone else who would have been up for a little bit of a bigger job. I felt like he got back to us pretty quickly. I think he was pretty straight forward with us as far as his level of experience was in dealing with projects like this. I think he was pretty punctual with getting back to us.
Description of Work: We got a bid from him on doing a job but then he ended up not doing the job. We wanted him to change our tiles and possibly some cabinets as well. Although we may have him do another job in the future.

I called Mr Handyman of Fairfax & Eastern Loudoun Counties to discuss the work. They told me (specifically Yogi) that I needed to replace the valve and that his technician would have to bust up some of the shower tile to get to it. He also told me their rate was $22.50 per 15 minutes and that this was probably a 3-4 hour job, not including cost of new valve and tile. Additionally, he said I would be charged for the time it would take the technician to go to the hardware store to get the parts. I asked him if there was just a washer or something that I needed to replace and he said that in their experience, anything less than a full replacement only lasts 6-7 months and doesn't get the job done. Skeptical, I called another handyman service. I told him of my situation and he immediately told me that more than likely it was just the cartridge and that I could easily replace it myself. I went to the hardware store today, bought the cartridge, and installed it in less than 5 minutes. Problem fixed...for $20. Thanks to their integrity and customer service, I saved a TON of money and headaches. I will not call Mr Handyman of Fairfax & Eastern Loudoun Counties ever to do work. I do not trust them.
Description of Work: I had a shower that constantly dripped.

Response from Mr. Handyman of Fairfax & Eastern Loudoun Co
To start with, till date “Mr. Handyman” has not done any work ever at the house of the Member in Herndon. Only a rough estimate was given over the phone. The info given for the estimated repair timing was based on my past experience with the shower valves those are 10 to 15 years old. These can be conveniently worked on and replaced, from the backside of the wall. However, I was under the impression that some newer valves that could be repaired from the front side, were introduced in the market just few years back. Now, I stand educated that there are some older models that have a cartridge that can be replaced from the "front" and thus time needed for repair would have been much less. It is quite likely that my Techs who are more than 15 years experienced could have figured this out after looking at the valve, had my Tech gone to do the work. On this case, I admit that I did gain new knowledge and will use it in future when talking to other customers. I appreciate this member for educating me in this regard. Yogi

I was extremely pleased with the quality of the work, and I thought the price was good considering the tasks. My only complaint would be punctuality. The week before the work was performed, I contacted the office and scheduled the 8 AM appointment on a Tuesday. On Monday afternoon, I contacted the office again and confirmed that my appointment was at 8 AM the next morning. Tuesday arrived. At 8:30-8:45, the handyman wasn't there and hadn't called. I spoke with the office staff, and they said they didn't know where the handyman was or when he would be there. I got another update at 9:30ish, but there was no news. The office staff was still unable to reach the handyman. I asked if somebody else could cover the appointment, but nobody was available. The handyman finally arrived at about 10:45. I'm not sure where the communication breakdown was. The office staff told me they were unable to get in touch with him, and he said they didn't tell him he had an 8 AM appointment. It was probably just a fluke, but it was inconvenient for me since I had planned on being back at work earlier in the day than was actually possible. Other than that, I was very happy with the service provided. I would use this company again but maybe only on days when I didn't have to go into work later.
Description of Work: Removed kitchen cabinet, cut to fit above new refrigerator, and rehung. A few other small tasks, including replacing a toilet seat and removing a piece of trim to remove a curtain rod bracket that was under it.

At Mr. Handyman Office, the Service Request was received on 10/25/10 at 11 AM and the members were told information on the job details and our pricing. Yet the Customer rated us "B" for responsiveness. It is totally unfair. PRICING: We provide Services through qualified, professional Technicians/Consultants who are insured, have Worker Comp, have completed Criminal Background Checks and passed Drug Testing. They have 10 to 15 years of experience. Our work comes with 100% satisfaction guarantee. We stand behind our work for 1 year. We provide superior Customer Service. (Did the member check out the credentials of other handyman? And how would you do that?) We post coupons from time to time on our website. Customers can see those coupons at www.MrHandymanVA.com/coupon.htm. Our current coupon reads, for 6 hours of Service, get 7th hour FREE. With this coupon our NET rate would have worked out to $77 per hour for 7 hours of Service. Comparing us with a Chuck-with-a-Truck who may say that his rate is lower, is inappropriate. Many of these Chuck-with-a-Truck may quote you a lower rate of, say $50 but they do not work on Time and Material Model and ultimately get you in overall quote. Go figure. Many of our REPEAT CUSTOMERS just send us an e-mail at Service@MrHandymanVA.com, giving details 1) List of their jobs, 2) Their own rough estimate of hours that we may send the Tech for, 3) Desired Date of Service, 4) Arrival time either 8AM or Flexible 11 - 3 PM. We schedule their job and charge for the actual Technician time worked. Repeat customers booking goes hassle-free like a breeze. We do your jobs – ON TIME. DONE RIGHT, without any stress to you. You even need not be home or take time OFF from your work. The entire PROCEDURE is posted at www.MrHandymanVA.com/procedure.htm. Interesting reading. Our customers value Professional Service provided through ON TIME, DONE RIGHT, We even take care of jobs for the Land Lords may be out of State (or even staying out of USA). We can also provide, in real-time, the progress of the work being done, through photos - FREE OF CHARGE SERVICE. Anyway, we are for those customers who value overall package.

Ron was here on time. He explained the work that he would be doing, and did excellent work in a timely fashion. He cleaned up afterwards. It was great!
Description of Work: Grout repair, replaced outside faucet, filled earth below deck, mold removal, and spigot
Excellent! Mr. Yogi was very responsive to my initial phone call to have someone come out to give me a time estimate on replacing the deck handrail and within 40 minutes Will was at my house. Upon scheduling the work (which was only 2 days later), Will was prompt, called throughout the day while I was at work to let me know his progress. I was very impressed with the work, the quality is excellent, the price was very reasonable for the amount of work that I had done, and the staff was very professional. I will definitely use Mr. Handyman again and will make sure to request that Will be the person for our job!
Description of Work: Deck - Will removed a section on the handrail on the deck due to wood rot, replaced, and painted the new handrail. Hardwood floor repair - When we had the house painted last year, we tore down an ugly build-in fireplace surround and discovered the hardwood floor did not extend all the way to the wall. Will replaced 6 inches of hardwood floor all the way across the room, repaired the baseboard and shoe molding, and repainted the baseboards. Drywall - Will patched and sanded two large holes in the wall where the paper towel holder used to be. Interior stair handrail - Will cut, stained and replaced the handrail on the main floor stairs.

I located Yogi of Mr Handyman through Angie's List. I emailed a description of the work (repair or replace an exterior doorframe, and then re-hang a storm door) and asked that he send someone out to make an estimate. He told me "It's a 2-hour job, and we don't waste time making estimates on 2-hour jobs -- the charge for 2 hours is $230, and $90/hour beyond that". I explained that I was familiar with the amount of work necessary, and that I thought that it was going to be longer than 2 hours. He insisted, and could have someone (let's call him Andy) out to the house the next day at 8am, 8:30 at the latest (due to traffic). I agreed to give him a chance. The next morning, 8am came and went without "Andy". So did 8:30. At 9:00 I called Yogi to get a status, and they had no idea where "Andy" was other than a GPS position. Eventually it was determined that "Andy" was having a medical emergency, and that they'd send out another handyman (let's call him "Bob") for 12:15-12:30. "Bob" showed up around 12:30 (good), looked at the doorframe and said "That's not a 2 hour job". (No surprise.) He took a picture and sent it to Yogi, and then left. Yogi called me back to talk about replacing the entire door (the door is fine). I reminded him that I had said the work was more involved than "2 hours", and that since he wasn't going to listen to me, I wasn't going to do business with him.
Description of Work: Asked for someone to come out and make an estimate on repairing/replacing an exterior door frame. Was told "It's a 2-hour job, and we don't waste time making estimates on 2-hour jobs". When a handyman (eventually) shows up he says "That's not a 2-hour job" and punts back to his boss.

Response from Mr. Handyman of Fairfax & Eastern Loudoun Co
The events submitted by the customer are correct but my response is: 1. The 1st Tech had a Asthma attack and could not even move. He stopped on the road side. It was an emergency. Only when he sent SMS, we had to go to him and take him home. So there was a delay in reaching the 2nd Tech to the Customer house. 2. The 2nd Tech looked at the breakage on the door frame and suggested that the whole door+jamb (pre-hung, since only jamb is not sold separately) be replaced, because it will not be economical to repair the jamb, about 3 to 4 hour job for the repairs alone. 3. There was additional job of replacing hinges on a storm door and install the storm door back. That will call for a perfect door jamb, and the current damage was excessive. the member omitted telling those details. 3. The member was advised of the finding. I took another recommendation from another 3rd Tech when I sent him the photo. He gave his expert advise exactly the same, to replace the whole door. 4. The member was not charged at all. 5. OUR POLICY IS TO DO THE RIGHT THING THE VERY FIRST TIME. 6. AND THE MEMBER GAVE ME RATING "F". I DO NOT AGREE WITH HIS RATING. WE CAN STILL COME AND INSTALL THE NEW PRE-HUNG DOOR, IF HE WANTS US TO DO IT RIGHT. BUT GIVING RATING OF "F" IS NOT JUSTIFIED. I HOPE HE WILL REVIEW HIS DECISION. I WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN LIFE, ANY WAY. YOGI

Generally the work was OK, but I probably could have done a better job myself.
Description of Work: I tried them twice because a friend had a very good experience with them, but both times I hired them, the work was not very good. The first time, I had wainscotting installed in a small bedroom. It took the handyman about 8 hours to do the job and it was done poorly. I finally sent him home and finished the job myself. The second time I hired them for some plumbing (replace bathroom faucet, replaced inside toilet works, replace water on/off valves in bathroom). Most of it was done well, except that the toilet tank is all crooked and it leaked. I had to tighten it down to stop the leak, but it's still crooked.

They were great overall! We could no longer use the shower, so they came and did repairs. It was hard to find someone to replace ceramic tiles, but they did it for us. They also did other small jobs to get our house ready to sell.
Description of Work: They remodeled our master bathroom. They replaced the ceramic tiles. They also replaced a paneled wall with drywall in our living room.
This was a mess and continues to be a mess. I called this contractor (Yogi Bahtra) and he sent out a workman to see what the problem was on Jan. 4, 2010. I was charged not only for the estimate but the gas to get to the location (within walking distance to my house), but nothing was done. Then a few days later he sent another man out for the same thing to give an estimate and to also perform the work, but this guy said the first one was wrong and other issues were involved. The second man did not come with any supplies to fix the problem of the first estimate or materials that he said that he needed. Instead of calling his office to get the materials sent or to call Home Depot, Lowe's or anyone else, he drove all over Northern Va., finally ending up in Wood bridge to get the materials (I live in Centreville, VA). I was charged not only for his estimate, but all the time he was supposed to be working on my problem and instead was driving around. I also got stuck for mileage/gas charges. I complained to Yogi and he said he would talk to the man and see if he could correct the "misunderstanding". I came home unexpectedly and found the worker putting together a mailbox (I did not need a mailbox) and he said it was for his house and he was waiting to hear back from Yogi. I got billed for that time as well. Finally, Yogi and Mr. Harold Withers came out and Mr. Withers seemed to know what he was doing. It seems that all the work the other guy did was not going to solve my problem, but it still cost me a bundle. Mr. Withers has been in the construction business for several years and has hands on experience. He explained to me and Mr. Bahtra what the problem was and how it needed to be fixed. Mr. Bahtra pointed out some other areas that could have caused the problem and said they needed to be fixed as well. I had all the work done, but when I contacted a third contractor, I was told that while some of the "Other items" that were done were nice, but they would not solve my problem, so Mr. Bahtra soaked me for more money than was necessary. As of April 3, 2010 the job is still not done. It was to be finished April 2, 2010 and I took time off work to be home but nobody came or called to say they were not coming. I called and got no answer (this was the second rescheduling to finish the job and I was trying to work around their schedule). Finally at 5:30pm Mr. Bahtra calls to say Harold is not coming and he forgot to call me to tell me he was not coming and to reschedule. So for Easter I have two big plastered areas in my kitchen and no painting done. update: Mr. Batra is a very personable man and he has made every reasonable effort to contact me and to correct this issue, and I appreciate that. The problem is that I have already had everything that needed to be fixed, fixed, and I recquire nothing further from Mr. Batra.
Description of Work: I have had three workers from this company and the only one worth mentioning for his outstanding job is Harold Withers. Due to the severe snow storm and ice, I had some major leakage in my house. It was in my son's bedroom, the kitchen and the adjoining 4 season room. I had two other companies out to repair the roof and replace all the attic insulation. That was fine, but there was still leakage in the kitchen and the four season room. Mr. Handyman put new caps on the roofing area, an attic fan, 3 attic vents, put two 2'x2" holes in my kitchen ceiling, realigned one gutter, plastered the holes in the kitchen (as yet has not sanded or painted that area) and put tar paper under the roof above the gutters in one area.

John, the Handyman was extremely professional, pleasant, and arrived on time. He did all the work requested, and even saved us the cost of a new bathroom faucet, since he discovered that the original faucet had not been installed correctly; it worked just fine after he corrected the problem. He also found that the dryer vent was improperly installed and out of code, since it was too long to be effective. He redirected the vent which involved cutting a new hole in the wall. All work was well done and finished up cleanly.

I received an estimate from one technician and then another arrived to perform services. Extent of damage expanded as the work continued and damage was identified. Although difficult to identify and schedule, this contractor stuck with it and completed. I can't say it was on time or under budget because the extent of the work grew several times as additional damage was uncovered.

They are a franchise and they have an excellent rating with me. They were on time and provided excellent workmanship. They estimated the job almost to the penny in advance. The fellow that came out, Ray Barefoot, was very accurate and couldn't have been more pleasant. I am planning to use him again.
Description of Work: I used Mr Handyman a few days ago to do a bunch of small jobs.
Bill, the technician, arrived promply at 8 a.m. and set about immediately performing all the work on the list. I had bought all the materials needed for the project except for the plywood for the shelving units. He did an amazing job to my complete satisfaction. He came up with a design for the shelving that I had not thought of. It was much more practical and will hold all the plastic containers which I had stacked one on top of the other, plus all the other miscellaneous items which accrue in a utility room.
Description of Work: Utility room: Built two sets of shelving units, replaced overhead fluorescent light, removed tile from floor and etched said floor. Installed outside security light, pointed up brick on outside of house, replaced pop up stopper in bathroom sink, replaced door knob in bathroom, replaced a window screen, repaired broken wood from improperly installed curtain rod and reinstalled rod.
