Mr. Bell is a professional. He returns phone calls, comes when he promises and delivers excellent results. He came out within a day of my calling and gave me a very reasonable bid that included all the paint. He started on the job the day he promised and finished within the time he had anticipated. He came back one more time after the job was finished just to make sure everything looked perfect and was done to our satisfaction. Mr. Bell is somewhat of a perfectionist. A very good quality for a painter! He was very pleasant to work with and we had no problem leaving him working in our home while we ran out to do errands or pick up the kids. We were impressed with his work ethic and would not hesitate to give him a strong word of recommendation. We have already scheduled him to do some other painting jobs in our house.

We are very pleased with his work. He is very good at what he does. He is efficient, and he kept work area extremely clean. He even came during the weekend when it was convenient for us. Best of all, his price was better than a few other companies that we requested estimates.I will definitely use him again when we need other painting done.

I found Richard Bell on Angie's List. I am a real estate agent by profession, and understand the importance of professionalism. I am a huge advocate of Angie's List because it is setup so that it is very difficult to pass off fake or misleading testimonials. What you get on here is honest, trustworthy, and real reviews, by real people, and not only did I hire Richard through Angie's List, but I hired almost every contractor I needed since I moved in to my new house a week ago.So I am very picky about who I trust and who gets my work. I can usually size someone up pretty quickly and get a good feel for them as a professional rather easily and quickly. I contacted Richard about 3 weeks before I was to close on my house. He met me at my house, ON TIME. My first impression was a nice, soft spoken, respectable man, LISTENED to what I wanted and offered suggestions as to how to accomplish my goals, since in my experience, I always need input from whomever is going to be doing the work I need.Richard wrote up a very reasonable estimate, in fact, I was very pleased with the quote, so an "A" on price. We then agreed that I would close on the house at the end of September at which point he said he could start the job on September 6th, 2011, well we didn't talk for 3 weeks, and I closed and called him to talk about whether he could still paint for me, and I thought he was going to be delayed by a couple weeks since we didn't speak for 3 weeks, but he started the very next day!He was on time, every single day, and did exactly what he said he was going to do. He cleans as he goes, uses good paint, low odor, good for the environment and does not take your home or you for granted while he is on your property. Today he finished the job, and I am super duper pleased with the end result. I learned of Richard Bell through Angies List. From the first time I called Richard through project completion, he was very helpful, attentive, courteous, and prompt. He was always available to take my phone calls and answer any questions. If I left a voice message, he almost always returned my call within a day or so. A beautifully painted kitchen and den were the end result of his efforts. The whole experience could not have gone smoother. If you are considering painting the interior of your home, I would highly recommend you consider Richard Bell.

Richard and his small crew arrived promptly and began by correcting the ceiling crack and nail pops. He and his crew worked efficiently and were professional and very neat. In fact, they were painting when the earthquake shook the entire house. After the shock ended, they continued work without any errant streaks or paint spills. They did an excellent job, using two and in some places three coats for great coverage of rooms that had not been painted in years. We loved the results and plan to have him back soon to paint the dining room. I highly recommend Richard Bell Painting and would use him again for any painting needs.

Richard responded to my email via Angie's list and scheduled an appointment to provide an estimate for the requested painting. He gave an estimate to paint our entry way, stairwell, hall, office and kitchen. The office, kitchen, and hallway (walls and ceilings) were assessed and a reasonable estimate provided. Due to timing (both his and ours) we scheduled the painting for two days and limited it to the office and kitchen. He was prompt and completed the work within budget and one day less than anticipated and estimated. We are pleased with this work and will probably use him again.

He answered on the first call, came out quickly for an estimate and got started on the work the next week. He did an excellent job. Update: He painted my Mom's stair handrail, but did not paint the bottom of it; so it remained dark wood and you can see it. My Mom called him about it and he never came back to fix it. Also, I don't think he uses caulk everywhere you should before you paint, and it would look much sharper if he did.

Very punctual, professional and courteous. Richard is the consumate professional painter. Our living room looks great and he will be back to paint our kitchen. We will also be scheduling to hav ethe foyer and upstairs rooms painted in the future. Our highest possible recommendation.

Long story, but Richard impressed us on first mtg - walk thru and clear understanding of needs and budget. His assistant was just as courteous and professional. All walls were damaged by children - lots of marks, writing and even soda splashes. Kitchen had been painted a horrible pink. Richard and assistant's work made it all disappear - looked like new walls. We would use him again and highly recommend Mr. Bell.

I contacted him through his outstanding ratings on Angie's list. Engaged him, he sent a proposal. I signed it and paid him what he quoted me - no more- when the job was completed.

We needed a painter on short notice to paint two bedrooms. I went to Angie's List and was impressed with the write ups for Richard Bell. I contacted him and the same day he was at my house the same day, reviewing what needed to be done, giving me a quote, and agreeing to the tight time frame I needed the work done by. Richard was punctual, immersed himself in the work at hand right away and cleaned up when leaving. We couldn't be more pleased with the appearance of our two rooms. He was good about bringing points to our attention that helped make the outcome even better for us. He is very focused on the job at hand and it clearly showed in his work for us. He did not rush the job even though we were asking him to work on short notice and finish within a tight time frame. The bedrooms were in use the day after he finished the work. He is due to return for additional work for us and we look forward to having him back.

Richard is amazing as house painter, inside and out. For the most part he's a one man operation, but brings in some excellent help to move the job along. He also does limited dry wall repair but works with Lark D. Drywall for extensive drywall repairs, also a very good deal. He has a very strong work ethic as well as wonderful integrity. From early on I knew I could trust Richard to do it right, to do it well, to work with me to get the look that my wife and I wanted and to never over charge for changes, even do overs when we didn't like the look after a whole couple of walls had been painted. That means he has a great deal of patience as well as commitment to leaving his customers satisfied. I'd be happy if I could get him again when the time comes that I need more paint work done outside or inside my house.

Mr. Bell did all work himself and did an excellent job. With having such high walls and vaulted ceilings these presented no problems to him at all. He was a hard worker and had bedroom and bath painted in one day., Family room, kitchen and foyer did take a few days because of the two story walls but when done everything was ready for everything to be put back where it was. Richard responded promptly to our request for a quote, then arrived right at the time he said he would. After hiring him, because his quote was the most reasonable and he appeared very professional; he went right to work and in no time had the preliminary work done on the drywall repair. He cleaned up his work areas and made plans to return for the balance of the work to be done. When Richard returned, he again went right to work and kept at it until the job was finished. If all contractors were as competent, life would be very good indeed for us fixer-upper people. We are very pleased with the drywall repair and the painting Richard did. He was professional and eager to please throughout the entire job. He is a very hard worker. It's great to have an honest, hardworking professional to deal with, and Richard is definately that.

The job exceeded our expectations. He finished on schedule and on budget. He was the ultimate professional -- showing up on time; easily reachable and cleaning up daily. He worked quietly and easily navigated around the other contractors we had working in the apartment at the same time (electrician and flooring). We inspected Richard's work when we finally arrived in Richmond and were floored. Perfect work -- coats evenly applied and no smearing or "paint dots" anywhere. We would highly recommend Richard. He is a great painter and has all the characteristics that we look for in service professionals -- detail oriented, orderly, prompt, friendly and accurate.

I found Mr. Bell's estimate to be extremely high. I have 3 other estimates in addition to Mr. Bell's. 2 were from painting professions and 1 was from a part-time painter with considerable experience. Because these other 3 are not in Angie's list, I went to see the houses where each painter had painted and I spoke in length to each customer. I did not contract with Mr. Bell due to price. I paid 49% less than Mr. Bell's estimate and had the larger bedroom (app. 13' X 16') plus the closet painted - plus the paint and supplies. I decided to hold off on the other bedroom. If money were of no concern, I would suggest using Mr. Bell.

Mr. Bell was great. He had a competitive rate, did the work himself(didn't subcontract), showed up on time, completed the work in the time he said he would, cleaned up after himself, the work looks beautiful! I would definitely use him again if I needed painting done.

I found Richard Bell on Angie's list. I called him first about painting the exterior of the two story plus attic neo-victorian house which we purchased in January. Wow! What a find! I told Richard that he's a magician with paint. And he is a magician whose prices are very reasonable. Why do I call him a magician with paint? Richard mostly works alone and seems to get more done and with better results and for less cost than other companies I've worked with. I soon learned that I could trust Richard to make it work even when the job looked daunting in terms of the places he had to reach. One of the reasons Richard can work much more cheaply than other companies is because he doesn't approach his work as would the estimator for a large company by advising that you do everything. Instead Richard gives good sound advice about what he can do for you that will have the most impact at the least cost. If something doesn't need to be painted and wouldn't add much to the overall look and care of the house he'll tell you that at the outset. He'll also tell you that he's willing to do it the harder way if that's what you want but makes it clear if he feels that a bigger job wouldn't be economically beneficial and why. Once he gets started Richard works quickly, expertly and efficiently. If he gives you an estimate he sticks by his price unless you decide to add something extra. But he willingly does small extras - such as a touch up to a chipped piece of woodwork - without adding it to the cost. Also Richard will willingly go back and fix any problems. But, for the most part, Richard does it right the first time. One of things that really appealed to me was Richard's willingness to take his time to put two or three different colors on a wall so we could check to see which one we liked best. I tried not to take advantage of that. However, in one case the color we'd chosen just didn't look as we expected it too. It was much brighter than we wanted. So Richard went back to the paint store on his own time and got another color and then painted an small area of the wall to make sure we would be satisfied. When I commented about using his time he just said, "What's most important to me is that you're satisfied with the way it looks when I'm finished." I found Richard's level of work, his courtesy, professionalism, pricing and especially his patience and desire to satisfy his customers all to be outstanding. Tom H.

Mr. Bell actually finished a painting job that I thought I could complete. I could not so I was so thankful for his prompt attention to this room. The work was done quickly and neatly. He used a top quality paint and provided an exact color match that I requested. The finished job was excellent and would call him again for future work.

Prior to the work beginning, several e-mails passed between myself and the painter. Good communication from the onset. The work started right on the assigned time. Estimated time for the project was 3 days, and the work was done in a little over 2 1/2. Excellent quality, terrific results especially with the deep red conversion from the white.

The gentleman who came out to get the work done was fine and prompt. He did a good job and I didn't have any problems with him.

referrred from AL. prompt response to email requesting a quote. came to house for an estimate within a few days. prompt. came to paint on estimated week; arrived on time. diid work himself with 1 employee's help. work is neat, thorough. nary a splutter or drip to be found! doublepainted 1 wall b/c didn't feel coverage was adeqhate with natural light falling on that wall. quiet , couteous, respectful. price exactly as quoted despite requiring a second quart of paint (paint was included in price).I left the house with 2 painters inside for about 2 hours. no problems. I will use him/ them again.

Excellent. This was a very small job, so it took some time to find the right painter and price. Richard was the 3rd painter I called for an estimate because the other 2 painters had quotes of $300 and $340 for less than one square foot area of work. One painter actually said he needed to repaint the whole ceiling, and the other said it would require 2 separate jobs/visits. Both also said the cost may change once work was done, which made me a little nervous. But Richard had a very simple solution to the hole that was left by the electric work. His quote was $50 and it did not change once the work was done. He showed up w/ the needed supplies, and the work was done in less than 45 minutes. He did a great job covering the hole, filling in the small holes left by our light fixture, and the paint/texture matches perfectly. Very professional, honest, and efficient. We will definitely call him again if we need some touch-ups before we move out someday...or a bigger job.
