We were not happy with this service because they (2 men) should have been able to complete all of the work we needed. Especially, since they didn't need to move furniture or remove anything from the walls, including switch and receptacle covers. They arrived late (9 am) and were gone 7-1/2 hours later. I wasn't able to be at the house for many hours, so after I left in the morning I don't know how busy they stayed or how long they took for a lunch break, but I was disappointed they didn't finish what we asked of them. When I got back at about 2 in the afternoon, they told me they couldn't do the steps because I needed a primer. I went to Lowes and got the primer for them, but when I got back they said they weren't sure they's be able to get the stairs done..... and they didn't. To be fair, they were neat, using tarps, etc., and the quality of the work was acceptable. Also, they did make the wall repairs mentioned above. There are some small places that we'll have to touch up where no paint was applied. This was a Big Deal, advertised as an $800 value for $399. [2 painters (8 hours each) for 1 day.] We did not receive $800 worth of painting.

Guys were very responsive. Since this was a timed job rather than area (paid for 8 hours) they were very good about maximizing the amount of work performed. Quality of work was superb, also education on the difference between "drying" and "curing" for the bookcases.

I thought Richard and the two men that helped him that day did a great job painting our three rooms. They removed all the outlet covers before starting and patched the little nail holes in the walls before starting. They were very careful and took their time. Trim work wasn't necessary with this job and they did a good job of not getting any paint on the trim. I thought his price was reasonable. If we need more painting work done in the future we will keep Richard in mind!

They arrived on time, I had done a lot of prep so they could get right to work. There were four of them and I had an agressive goal for what I hoped to get done. They had let me know they might not get to the bathroom but they would try. They finished it all in about 8 hours and I was very pleased with their professionalism and the results. I would definitely recommend them.

Richard Bell is a good person with whom to work. I contacted 6 painters. Three returned my calls and gave me estimates. He told me how he would do the work and what products he would recomment, which is something I always appreciate. Richard had a full schedule but emailed me twice when he had openings. The first date I could not do. He arrived punctuality and was on-site to supervise his workers.

Danny came to the house to give me an estimate. He was on time and extremely polite and professional. He explained that I needed to pay 1/3 of the estimate at the beginning of the work and the remainder when the work was completed. The painters started sooner than expected - which was good! They were very neat overall - just a few drops on the floor here and there which I was able to remove. As I do not live in Richmond, the painters worked while I was away; they had no furniture to move except in the basement. The new painting and staining looks great! I would engage Richard's firm again if I needed a thorough, neat paint job!

I am really dissapointed with this company. I selected them based on their top ratings on this website, but now I am amazed that they score so highly. At first, things seemed great. The owner answered my first phone call, and had one of his employees follow up with me to set up an estimate. He came out to my condo building the very next day (July 25th) and was on time, nice, and professional. I was interested in having one of the bedrooms in my unit painted, as well as coordinating the painting of our large interior stairwell/hallway and some exterior windows. He said he would have an estimate for me by the following day, and guess what? I'm still waiting! It's now August 14th, so 3 weeks later. Don't get me wrong, they sent me a few emails with 1/3 of the estimate, as well as a few excuses, but then they just stopped responding. If you don't want the job, just tell me. Don't be completely unprofessional and just not follow up!!

It went Ok. I wouldn’t say it went well. There are some places where the darker color didn’t get covered and patch work on some of the walls is still visible. The closets were sprayed white and I had to clean up some paint off the floor. There was one door that we talked about him painting; it didn’t get painted.

The crew arrived promptly, was professional and went to work removing outlets and light prep. I had already patched and sanded holes. They sealed the patched areas then began hand trimming the walls, doors etc. They worked hard and did a neat and thorough job and made sure I was satisfied with the coverage before they cleaned up and left. I was very pleased with the quality and quantity of painting they performed and would use them again.

Richard, responded to our request for a estimate quickly. He came to our home a few times to talk to us about the job, paint, process, etc. We received two estimates on our house and went with his, because it was $3000 less than other estimate. They had a big job to do. Our house is old (1936), all wood, and really needed to be painted. They took great care with the lead paint issue and cleaned up every day after painting. The painters were professional and friendly.He used a primer that is suppose to maintain the paint on the house. He plans on checking on our house to see how it does. Our house looks beautiful and neighbors have commented on how great it looks. My husband said "I love this house so much, I'd buy it again!" Thanks Richard.

I had 3 companies perform estimates. While all companies were close, Richard's estimates came in slightly lower than the others. Once Richard was selected (considering references and online reviews), Richard exhibit flexibility,working our paint job among others to get the job started / completed earlier than originally quoted. His team arrived when scheduled (some days early), were professional, worked an extra day when the job took longer than expected (with no change the amount billed, bill amount = quoted amount), cleaned up daily (no evidence of paint being other than were expected, i.e the walls), and provided a finished product that met my expectation. In addition, they left unused paint for future touch-ups (paint was part of the quote) and sold me gallon of paint at his cost for some additional painting I had planned. The only inconvenience was the scheduling of the extra day. Richard contacted me the morning that his team could come out to complete the job, but after I had left the house that morning. Fortunately, I was able to adjust my day, so his team could come out that day to complete the job. I would have appreciated at least 1 day prior notice. Overall, Richard and his team did a good job and I would recommend his services to others.

I got 3 estimates for the work. Mr. Bell took the longest to get back to me and to come do the estimate (almost 3 weeks). However, he was the lowest price by about 20% or more so I selected him. It took another 2 weeks for the work to begin. I was getting so frustrated I got a 4th estimate which was about 30% more! So I decided to wait. When the work finally began, Mr. Bell was present and got a small army of helpers in to get the job done in 2 days. The workers were very quiet and clean. Some were clearly trainees and not well experienced but they also worked carefully and slowly. I would have preferred the carpet, which was brand new, all be covered. Painters believed that they did not need to do that. There were no clearly visible spots of paint left anywhere and the trim work edges were very nice. There are very small spatters of paint on the floor which happens I've found with all painters when the area is not totally covered. There also was one area of about 3 feet by 1 foot over some stairs that was missed. Mr. Bell has offered to come back to do that area but I will just do it myself. He used a very high quality of paint which did not require as many coats as cheaper paint would. Everyone was professional and we are pleased with the final results. Other than the delay in getting the work done (and he reported he was having some personal issues which may be fixed by now), I would definitely recommend this painter, especially if price is important to you. We saved hundreds of dollars and still got a good job done.

First, I did shop around using Angies list of all providers with great reviews, so Richard Bell was one of them. Everyone I had out was professional and prompt. The house we had painted is a new rental property we inherited and is empty. I called at least 15 painters and had 3 our to the house. Being a rental, I wanted to keep costs down. Richard was able to spray the house keeping costs down and moved through it very quickly. Many of the painters I talked to said tha spraying was a good option but you need to be careful to get someone who knows what they are doing. When Richard came out of provide a quote, we were not sure if we would need 1 or 2 coats of paint. He was very prompt and met us at the house on a Saturday (that was great). He mentioned that he had some paint and thought it would be a good idea to test it to see if 1 coat would do it (agian, this is quote, we had not decided on which painter). He sprayed a few walls to get a better sense and thought it would take with 1 coat. He followed up a few days later after it had time to fully dry to make sure. He quoted us $1500 spraying 1 bedroom, two bathrooms, 2 halls, living room, dining room and kitchen. He ended up rolling the Kitchen due to the cabinets and woodwork......sold. He even allowed me to remove fixutres and wall plates etc to keep costs down. His crew showed up before he did prepping the space, next thing I knew talked to him and he was done! Granted touch ups were needed, but done in a day. My wife and I walked through and were impressed and still saw some areas that needed touching up. Next day Richard came out and walked through with us and he already had everything we pointed out. Side note, we also had some wall repair in the master bathroom. He came out did all of the touch up and it looks great. I wanted to wait a few weeks to allow drying time and for us to see the paint in different light throughout the day. Let me say, it looks great! My wife and I tried painting 2 bedrooms, while they look great it took way too long and seemed like too much paint. Richard and his crew were very nice, kept in touch and did a tremendous job. Richard is very much in tune with customer satisfaction and his rating on Angies List (and even just in general) and it shows. Bottom line, ~1200 sq ft painting, wall flat/egg shell white and trim gloss white and rolling in the kitchen, looks awesome and was really fast. I would and will highly recommend Richard Bell to anyone and everyone and will be using him again in the future.

Richard is reasonably priced and very accommodating to my schedule. It was simple and easy. The paint store even mixed up my paint color and he went back for me to resolve the issue. He came back and re painted the wall for me to match. I am very pleased and happy with his work.

Richard and his team were punctual and professional throughout. Inperfections in drywall were nicely repaired. Painting was done with good attention to detail and in a timely manner. The area was spotless after the work was finished. Would definitely use again.

No problems! They were here when they said they would be! The job took about 4 days.

Richard scheduled an appointment for 4/26 to provide walk through and estimate. He called that day to say he had to reschedule and wanted to reschedule for Saturday, 28th at 5pm. I responded this time was okay with me. Saturday came and went, without any contact from Richard. Not sure what happened with that and will not call to find out. Needless to say I will not be using this contractor nor recommend to anyone.

We are very pleased with Richard's service. He was very responsive in communication and finished the job almost 4 days earlier than he said he would. Our house is vacant (we wanted to get it painted inside before we moved in) and so we just gave him our key so he could do his thing. The colors we originally selected were Sherwin Williams brand. He uses a different brand so he matched the colors exactly and wrote down the formulas so we can get more in the future. He also left us the leftover paint cans for touch ups in the future. Before he painted everything he painted a big block of the colors on the walls so we could confirm that we still wanted those colors. He did a great job -- there is not a spot or drip of stray paint anywhere! He cleaned up very well. We definitely plan on using him in the future.

At first we were only going to have three rooms painted, but based on Richards estimate we decided to have him paint eight rooms in our new house and we were not disappointed. Richard and his crew repaired several holes that were left in the wall when I pulled out wire shelves. These were difficult holes to fill due to the screws having been anchored into the drywall and the plugs left rather large “volcanoes” as my sister in law called them. Not only were these holes patched but the results were so good that you could not even tell where they were. Richard takes great pride in his work and his client’s satisfaction. The paint bled through in the master bedroom and he was right on it repainting it to ensure our satisfaction. Richard is prompt and takes great pride in his work and it really shows in the final outcome. My wife and I were extremely pleased with the results and we have already recommended his services to several of our friends and will call on him again for future painting jobs. I would rate him an A+++ but Angies list doe not allow that.

We just moved into a new home and are expecting twins in a few months...with all the craziness that goes into owning a new home we decided we wanted a few rooms painted. I joined Angie's List in order to be able to find certain services easily like a painter. I came across Richard Bell's listing and his amazing reviews...he did not disappoint. I called him Thursday morning and he was over to look at the rooms later that same day...5 days later we had our rooms painted and were extremely pleased. He did a great job, his prices are totally reasonable, and just overall a very nice guy. I would highly recommend Richard to anyone and of course we plan to use him again in the near future to finish up some other areas in our house once we are ready. Thanks Richard!!!

Excellent! Bids altered by emails. Work done by three days of effort. Richard did trim caulking beyond the original scope.

Richard did a great job. He was very professional and courteous. He was able to answer any questions that I had...and I had a lot of questions. He provided good, thorough answers and which lead me to select him over the other bids I had received. He was readily available and left me feeling like I really got the best value for my money, and that's what matters!
