Our core business is kitchen and bath remodeling and all the things that go along with that. We do much more than just cabinets. In addition to fabricating our own cabinets, we do floors, counters, tile, painting, plumbing, electrical etc. We take on the whole project and take the worry away from the customer. We work with customers on design and try to achieve their vision at a cost they can afford. We also do closets, shelving, media centers and any other project that relates to interior remodeling. Do you want to remove a load bearing wall to increase the size of your kitchen? No problem. Do you need a room addition? No problem. Do you just want your existing cabinets refaced or painted? No problem. If a permit is required for you project, we are licensed (VA Contractor's #2705114948). Since every project is unique, I will work up a quote after meeting with you and going over your requirements and the scope of work. On small jobs, I generally require a deposit and bill the balance on completion. On larger jobs, I will set up a payment schedule. I will accept checks, cash or PayPal (you pay fee).

Services we offer
Kitchen & bath remodeling, General contracting, Cabinet refacing, Cabinet installation, Hardwood floors, tile (floor, bath, backsplash), Counters (laminate, granite etc.) Alterations, Renovations, room additions, whole house renovating for resale (flipping), removal or construction of walls, home theaters. We work on a "first come, first served" basis. Scheduling of projects will vary from 2 weeks to 3 months, depending on work flow.
Services we don't offer
Generally speaking, we don't accept jobs that are better handled by a handyman or a specialty contractor, unless it is part of a larger remodel job. A good example of this is window replacement. We have done plenty of windows that are part of an overall project but we don't seek jobs that are "just" windows.

Description of Work: |They did not call me. I called them. Bob said they stay busy and that he would a mechanic out to estimate the job and do the job parttime if asked. |Frank came on time, evaluated the problem, stated how he would do the job |and made a verbal bid price. Frank was so impressive that I decided to have him do the job and asked that he email a written bid. He said he would and left. I did not receive an email bid as promised, so called Bob asking him to have Frank call me. He seemed startled that I had asked for a bid and said he doesn't do this kind of work. Frank then called and apologized that he can't do the job. I was surprised and upset and considered calling Bob, the owner, for an explanation, but just let it go. |Frank |

I don't know this Angie's List member. I have never met him. I have never done any work for him. He called me and asked if we were able to install a microwave over his range. I told him I wasn't able to help him at that time because of prior commitments. But I said I would give his name and number to my employee, Chris, in the event he wanted to do a side job on his own. (That's correct, He got Chris's name wrong. It's Chris, not Frank.) That was the beginning and end of any dealing I had with this Angie's List member. I understand, from Chris, that the job was far more involved than represented and that Chris didn't feel comfortable doing it. I don't know why this member would write a negative review on a company with which he had no dealings. My only clue is that he can't seem to get names or facts straight.
Description of Work: Stahl was hired for a comprehensive remodeling project--this included our kitchen remodel, bathroom updates, & wood floor refinishing. |1. My neighbor's complained about a "bonfire" in the backyard--appears the debris was burned while we were still relocating from South Carolina... |2. When arriving from South Carolina I found all rooms covered with debris which my painters indicated they had to keep cleaning or moving so they could work. |3. Not sure how this got missed since Stahl did kitchen sink and cabinets, but we later discovered a massive hole in our kitchen drain pipe, and gallons of water dumped into our crawlspace until we discovered the leak and had to file a homeowner's insurance claim the damage was so extensive. |4. The new wood flooring in the kitchen installed had a construction-related spill that Mr. Stahl never re-stained or repaired. The refinished floors were not sealed so the new refinished stain is discoloring too. |The light fixture installed would not even allow the over fridge cabinets to open. Since Mr. Stahl had other jobs the painter fixed it for us. The cabinets were not caulked around the kitchen sink so water pooled under the countertops. |5. When discovering the kitchen sink leak, and calling Mr. Stahl about cabinet removal so plumbing repairs could be conducted, when he asked his employee. he said "Give me a hammer and I can have them out in about 5 minutes". I just found a different contractor to cut into the cabinets so that we could access the plumbing and have the repair completed. |6. When the job was running over schedule & I asked about completion dates, Mr. Stahl said he had too many other jobs lined up and some of the work would just be credited back to us. "I may have to file bankruptcy if the job doesn't wrap up soon" |7. Mr. Stahl indicated to my husband that I was delaying it by choosing exterior doors. When I reminded him I needed help with what doors to order, he indicated my email was too long and he just didn't have time. |8. There may be a few more examples--but no reason to drag this review out anymore. |9. In Mr. Stahl's defense, he did wait for the gas company to light the pilot light, he accepted Lowe's appliance deliveries, & he found a way to construct cabinets within our budget. |The most upsetting part about the whole experience is 2-fold... (1) The initial sale, discussions, and responsiveness gave me the confidence to contract them. But once contracted he rushed me to allow him access to start cabinets, became impatient, and constantly reminded me that he had other jobs so they would wrap up when they could. (2) They are so disorganized, rude, and inconvenienced I don't want to deal with them to correct anything I'm not satisfied with. I don't want to have to clean up after them. | |I have struggled with submitting this complaint for almost a year because I am not the type to complain. However--this is what Angie's List is for and I really don't want anyone else on a budget to select this company without knowing what this experience was like.

I am positively stunned by this review. If you are reading this, I would only ask that you read the preponderance of my reviews and see this as the outlier it truly is. To put this in perspective, let me cut and paste an email from this member dated 3/17/14: "I know there's all kinds of business to finish, details, etc. but I wanted to tell you that I can't even find the words to tell you how much I appreciate what you have done to our little modest house we're moving in to. I was blown away on Saturday. You have been so kind, and so professional, and you've even made me relax a little about the whole damn thing." I can't explain this schizophrenic reaction. It is almost like she has conflated us with someone else. I do know she had contracted with someone to re-mediate the tobacco smell from the prior owner and that she had problems with them. Perhaps she has problems with everyone. I resent having to deal with this since I always do my best to make my customers happy. But deal with it, I must, since I rely upon Angie's List for a great deal of my business. In the event you're interested, I will address each of her numbered items. 1. I have no knowledge of a "bonfire" in her backyard. Don't know what she's talking about. 2. We left no debris in her house. There were a couple tools and some supplies we had left and I picked up later, but nothing of any quantity and nothing remotely approaching her description. 3. She called me about 8 months after we completed the job to ask if we could help arrange access inside a wall behind the sink that had developed a leak. This was pre-existing plumbing that we hadn't worked on and was not responsible for. I consulted with my employee who had install the cabinets and told her it wouldn't be that hard to remove the cabinets to gain access to the wall. She ended the conversation and said she would get back to me. She never did. 4. untrue. 5. untrue. 6. I never made any of those remarks 7. untrue In closing, we were neither rude nor unprofessional to her in any way, shape or form. During the process (approx. 6 weeks), she always expressed how happy she was with everything we were doing. Perhaps she should have written the review while her memory was still fresh instead of waiting a year.

Great!!
Description of Work: My kitchen is very large and new cabinets were installed in 2000. The finish was coming off and they looked terrible. Bob suggested refacing the cabinets. After agreeing on a stain Bob replaced all doors and draw fronts and refaced basic cabinets. Wow!! what a difference. It took 41/2 days to complete the job. I am very pleased with the workman ship and the look of my new kitchen. Bob was very professional and easy to work with.

Outstanding work! Bob worked within our budget to design, build, and install a beautiful new kitchen island. His design fit within the existing space, but increased the amount of usable storage cabinet space in the island. Construction was done off-site and he readily worked with our schedule and coordinated the island installation with another contractor installing our new granite countertops. Expert installation also of a new gas cooktop and telescopic downdraft, plus a quick and complete clean-up after installation and drywall repairs. we look forward to working with Bob again on our next home project!
Description of Work: Removal of existing kitchen island, construction and installation of new custom island, including installation of new gas cooktop and telescopic downdraft, plus drywall repairs in our kitchen.
Description of Work: I had the kitchen cabinets refaced. New counters, new backsplash and a new floor. The whole job took about 5 days. Bob did a great job. He did small items that we did not talk about in the estimate and did not charge me for them. I would have him back again.

Bob Stahl was a great cabinet maker and our overall experience was exceptional. He was able to give us great design advice and catered his craft to our needs. We had an outdated 1950s kitchen but didn't want to do a complete kitchen overhaul. He was able to keep the cabinets and replace the doors and drawers to update but still keep a quaint character to our home.
Description of Work: Replaced cabinet doors, and drawers. Custom sized each new door to fit in old cabinets. Recommended a counter specialist. Replaced our faucet. Repainted all cabinets and trim.

We requested a quote for replacing as well as refacing our kitchen cabinets. Bob Stahl worked with our hectic schedule in order to come out and get measurements, etc. He was easily available via phone and email. We have not scheduled the install as of yet, but we will definitely use this company once we decide when we want the work done, as he had the most competitive pricing of the 3 quotes we obtained.

I hired Bob based on reviews I read on Angie’s List that said he had maximized the use of space in other small kitchens, liked to be challenged and was a good problem solver. This was apparent after meeting him and I did not solicit any other bids, because I felt he was the man for the job. He is basically a one-man shop and had some previous personal and professional commitments, so I had to wait over a month for him to begin. I’m retired and was present during the whole installation, assisting where possible, which he didn't’t seem to mind as he is very personable and has a good sense of humor. There were a series of problems with my kitchen and some last-minute ideas I had that required several modifications to the cook top base which he happily dealt with. While over $2000 for two cabinets might seem excessive, considering the complications involved with designing and building the pop-up appliance garage and configuring the cook top base sliding shelves to fit around the downdraft vent and gas line and the time he spent re-leveling and modifying the old cabinets, I think it was fair. The frameless cabinets he built are sturdy and well-constructed. I acted as my own general contractor, hired my own electrician and plumber and completed many incidental tasks myself. I purchased the appliances, the plasma TV lift mechanism and the blind corner caddy from Internet venders. Although Bob has a counter top installer he regularly uses, I purchased the granite counter tops and had them fabricated and installed by Winn Stone Products. We are very pleased with our reconfigured kitchen which better utilizes its limited space and with Bob and his work and hope to be able to hire him to design and build highly unique wall cabinets we have imagined to maximize storage space in our adjoining dining room.
Description of Work: Built and installed one cooktop base cabinet and one peninsula cabinet to replace existing cabinets to accommodate new appliances. Designed and built a pop-up appliance garage using a plasma TV lift mechanism to utilize an otherwise inaccessible double blind corner. Reconfigured existing blind end base cabinet by widening the door and drawer and installed a “Blind Corner Caddy” to improve access. Installed a gas cooktop and pop-up downdraft vent in the base cabinet and an under the counter electric oven in the peninsula cabinet. Re-leveled the existing base cabinets.

Bob came in after negotiations with another company went south. He was friendly and VERY willing to work with our hectic schedule. He emailed the proposal to me with 24 hours and included a timeline to help me with scheduling time to be home. I mentioned that I liked glass in kitchen cabinets and he offered to do that as well. In the end Bob did a fantastic job, he was pleasant, professional and flexible. We've searched high and low for an honest contractor and have finally found him! We'll be calling on Bob for all of our future projects.

Robert Stahl quoted $30000 for the entire job. I would not hesitate to take another quote from him. He is a custom cabinet guy. There is nothing wrong with what he suggested. But we decided to go with another company. He was very nice and very professional. His work is more custom- made and exactly what we want but I wanted to see something upfront. It is not that he could not have done that but I felt his speciality was more in the cabinet area. I wanted somebody with more experience with the entire job.

Bob takes too many shortcuts for us. He tried to get out of things he committed to because he realized he had bid our project too low and just wanted to get in and out. He always underestimates the time he will spend on a project which is not really a big deal for us, but he starts rushing and taking shortcuts towards the end of the job. He told his painting assistant she should not caulk gaps and nail holes before painting; he "forgot" he had committed to painting ALL the trim in the room and tried to get away with just painting the crown molding; the mosaic tile he installed is wavy in some sections and downright crappy looking in one spot; the kitchen electrical outlets are wiggly; the bookcase paint is already getting chipped from routine use. Although he agreed to a couple of very small add-ons to the job, and did not charge us enough for them, we still won't be hiring him again. It's a shame, because we really, really like him as a person, we trust him in the home with our kids, and there is a LOT more work to be done around here. (He even told the painting assistant, in front of me, to touch up the kitchen job he did for us last time because I told him when he was bidding that I wasn't really pleased with how the kitchen paint job came out. They never got around to painting over the kitchen again and left without mentioning it again)

My husband and I had purchased a vacation condo needed some updating. Our initial concerns were finding someone that would give us a fair price as well as be reliable enough to meet the deadline and perform the work for us when we were not there for oversight since we live in another state. No worries about any of that with Bob Stahl. He did a fantastic job -- he was great at staying in touch with us, sending us photos of the progress and was always responsive to our questions. His quality of work was fantastic -- he does not cut corners! He also sticks to his bid. Part of the job was to remove the old vinyl flooring in the kitchen/dining area and replace it with porcelain tile. When he started that portion of the job, he discovered that there were three layers of vinyl on the floor. While some contractors might have added an additional charge for this added complication, Bob did not. He just did what needed to be done --- scraped and pulled up the old vinyl, laid the new tile (beautifully) and ensured that the place was cleaned up afterward. After meeting and talking with Bob at the initial consult, I felt that he was a guy to be trusted, and I was right. He is ethical, hardworking, honest and a perfectionist about the work he does. I will use him for any future jobs I might need. I only wish he lived where my husband and I live full time!
Description of Work: Refaced all kitchen and bathroom cabinets -- used wood veneer rather than laminate for sides and facings. Replaced cabinet doors with solid maple doors. Stained all cabinetry to desired color. Installed porcelain tile floor in kitchen and dining area. Installed granite countertops in kitchen and bath. Installed crown molding in kitchen and dining area. Painted entire unit -- floors, ceilings, trim

Bob is an exceptional contractor...honest, fun, smart, and hardworking, yet an easygoing guy. He figured out various workarounds to solve some install issues that we had with our house, and helped us devise ways to update things without breaking the bank. He actually enjoys the challenge of figuring out which way to do things. It is a pleasure to work with him. He is also dog- and kid-friendly! We just moved into a 26 yr old house, and NOTHING has been done to update it in all those years, so we have quite a job ahead of us. The flooring is a huge job and he is handling it in stride. Got us a great price. Since he saved us SOOO much money over any other flooring quotes we received, we're also having him paint the old cabinets in the kitchen for now, and relaminate the countertops. Eventually we will ask him back again to install new stone countertops, and eventually, in the 10 yr plan, all 3 bathrooms and a complete kitchen tearout & redo (if he is still accepting work by then!) Bob is a treasure and I almost hate to review him on here because I would never want him to be too busy to work at our place!
Description of Work: This is the second time we are using Bob Stahl for a kitchen remodel. This time he made some extra cabinets to our specifications and to coordinate with the existing cabinetry. Also relaminating the countertops, and installing new flooring throughout our approx 3000 sq ft house.
We knew in the first ten minutes of speaking with Bob Stahl that he was the guy we were going to hire for the job. He helped us with logistics and turned our ideas into sketches. Other places we got quotes from sent salesmen, who tried to sell us what THEY wanted to sell us. Bob listened to what we wanted, said he could do it and make it look great, and that was that. He built us a new bank of upper & lower cabinets for one side of the kitchen, including heavy duty pot drawers. He also built us a wine rack with stemware holders. He designed it himself. It works great for us and helped us with some serious storage issues. He also refaced the original cabinets, making them match the stuff he made, and it all looks fantastic together; it all looks new. My friends are envious. Our kitchen actually looks bigger now that all the clutter has a place to be stored. Bob also corrected the original builder's flaws while he was in our kitchen... cabinets that opened the wrong way, and drawers that did not have enough clearance for drawer pulls. Now everything works properly. I suspect he fixed our finicky oven drawer too (?)... it has worked right for the first time, ever since he was in our kitchen! He discussed countertop and flooring materials with us and made suggestions in line with our concerns of trying not to price ourselves out of our little neighborhood. I chose a type of vinyl flooring that was new and a bit different from the usual... he did not even blink an eye at the possibility that installation may be different than what he was used to. It is hard to rattle this guy. My dogs and my toddler liked Bob, so that has got to say something about his character! I am picky when it comes to finish work, and Bob did a great job on that. The last day he was here, he went through each sticky note I had put up and methodically fine-tuned everything job by job. It seemed like all that detail work was already on HIS mental list for the day anyway. We plan to hire Bob again when we are ready to remodel our bathrooms. He is trustworthy, reliable, hardworking, and polite. He is a good listener, knows his stuff, and does it really well.
Description of Work: * Build new upper & lower cabinets with pot drawers * Build new wine rack (huge) * Reface existing cabinets * Replace faucet * Replace floor * New countertops

Bob came over at a time that worked for both of us to do the estimate. He was flexible with the start day as I needed to buy the tile still. He estimated the work would take 3 days, it ended up taking just shy of 6 days - which wasn't a big deal for me. He did the shower floor first, then the bathroom floor. The last part was the beast - the shower walls. Bob catered to my design demands with ease. Everything turned out great. Every day I would come home from work, hang out with Bob as he worked, then we would head to the local 7-11 for something refreshing or Cogan's for pizza - he is extremely trustworthy and we gave him run of the house and didn't fail us..
Description of Work: Bob and his co-worker were hired to install tile on the floor of the bathroom and the walls of an 8' x 5' walk-in shower. Used 12"x12" floor tile for approx 150 sqft. 4"x4" wall tile for approx 144 sqft. 2"x2" slate mosaic tile for the floor of the shower for approx 40 sqft.
This has been a very enjoyable renovation. Mr. Stahl has a wealth of knowledge regarding kitchen makeovers. He knows how to solve design problems. He is pleasant, smart and honest. He won't let you blow your budget by agreeing to do things you can't afford. And he cleans up every day so you can continue to live in your house while the renovation is underway.
Description of Work: Mr. Stahl helped me put together a comprehensive kitchen plan, work out a practical budget, select appliances and materials, and performed all the demolition and construction work. He designed all the cabinet boxes and doors and had them fabricated off-site. In addition, he added new wiring for lights, re-routed a gas line for a new range, and hired a subcontractor electrician to replace my aging breaker panel. He also laid a new linoleum floor, specified and installed the laminate countertops and sink, and installed a replacement vinyl window.

STAHL CABINETS offers the following services: Kitchen & bath remodeling, General contracting, Cabinet refacing, Cabinet installation, Hardwood floors, tile (floor, bath, backsplash), Counters (laminate, granite etc.) Alterations, Renovations, room additions, whole house renovating for resale (flipping), removal or construction of walls, home theaters. We work on a "first come, first served" basis. Scheduling of projects will vary from 2 weeks to 3 months, depending on work flow.
Generally speaking, we don't accept jobs that are better handled by a handyman or a specialty contractor, unless it is part of a larger remodel job. A good example of this is window replacement. We have done plenty of windows that are part of an overall project but we don't seek jobs that are "just" windows.
