I hired Redd's Tile and Wood Floors to lay tile in my kitchen, entry and half bath. He mentioned while he was there that he also does hardwood flooring. He and I spoke and we agreed that he would do the hardwood flooring in the living and dining room. I spent $4,000.00 on hardwood flooring and $7,000.00 for labor. When the hardwood floors were installed I noticed that Mr Redd had put in boards that had dents, scratches ands chunks of wood missing. He and another installer named Glen made scratches and scuffs in the wood with their tools. I immediately called and asked him to come back and replace the damaged floor. I had 3 other installers come out to examine the floors and all 3 said that the floors were not installed properly due to nail heads coming through the wood, spaces between the wooden planks, scratches and other damages. Mr. Redd has made numerous excuses for not replacing the floors. He has blamed the actual floor itself. He says he isn't responsible and that I would have to buy all new flooring. Since he is a minister, he told me "Not to worry about the floors, because worrying is a sin." In laying the tile and hardwood flooring, he neglected to remove the baseboard. When I confronted him about this issue, Mrs. Redd said "the baseboard wasn't removed because I didn't request it!" Mr. Redd also told me that I should have been present to lay out the hardwood flooring. I told them that Mr. Redd is the professional and I'm the lay person and as the customer with little knowledge of installing flooring, I shouldn't be held responsible for telling him how to the work. I have tried to contact him again on 5/21/13 and on 5/22/13. He feels that he should not have to correct his mistakes. He and his wife work together and they double team the customer. They give reasons to why they feel they are not financially responsible. Also Mr. Redd damaged other components in my home such as scratches and dents in the door trims, nicks in the walls and black marks in my paint. He knocked dents in my kitchen cabinets, broke a drawer inside of my refrigerator while moving it, and I had to pay $100.00 to replace the fruit drawer. He nicked and damaged all of these areas and said he would come back to fix those damages but he has not done so. I have then marked all those areas with painters tape and he acknowledged them but he has not made any effort to correct them.

Response from REDD'S TILE & WOOD FLOORS
In response to your text message dated 6/9/13 we are waiting for you to come to a decision to settle this issue. We understand that you are not satisfied with your floor. When we met with you on three occasions after the floor was installed and paid for, we offered you three options to fix the floor. 1. The first option was to take up 152 sq. ft. of wooed and replace it. (you provide the wood). 2. The second option was to take up the pieces of wood you are dissatisfied with and replace only those boards. (you would provide the materials). 3. The third option was to sand and polyurethane the entire floor eliminating all of the said cracks and dents. This wood floor was the third job you hired our company to do for you. Before each job began we spent several hours with you answering questions about the work and what your expectation was for the job. The burden of proof that the floor is installed improperly is on you, there are licensed inspectors that can be called in to determine this. As far as you telling us that three installers said the floor was not properly installed is just hearsay. We do not wish to prolong the time in settling this matter we take your dissatisfaction seriously. We want to complete this job in a timely fashion. Respectfully Submitted, Merve and Addie Redd

I didn't actually end up using them because he called me the day he was supposed to start work and bailed out on me. That was terrible. I would tell people to stay away from this company. He still owed me after he bailed out since I had already paid him to do some stuff and he had some materials of mine. I couldn't actually get in touch with him because he wouldn't call me back. It was very strange. I had to call his wife to track him down and she finally got him to call me, and when he finally did call, he said that he overcommitted and would not be able to do it. He said that he was sorry to leave me in a lurch and I understood that because I had got everything ready and I had also given him some money. It was bad. I would definitely not recommend him to anyone ever. He had quoted about $1000 to do the job and the price would have been pretty good if the work had actually happened.

Obtained several estimates and chose Redd due to his extensive experience & the length of time he spent explaining the process, what materials he supplied & what to look for and where to look for the materials that we planned on providing. This was a first time project for me and Mr. Redd guided me through with lots of patience. The project started as just the ceramic without the foyer included, then we added the laminate for the dining room, then added replacing the original ceramic foyer (which he had to remove), then we expanded the foyer ceramic installation to appox. 4x the original foyer. His suggestions for the final foyer change was the best! His suggestion made a huge difference & made everything come together. Results are outstandng. Very good installation and Mr. Redd was there when he said he would be and finished in a very timely manner even though we added extra ceramic installation for the foyer area. Mr. Redd was fantastic & great to work with. I would recommend Redd to anyone considering any type of ceramic installation and I will definitely use him again.

After the shower ran, water had begun to puddle in the ceramic tile that forms a sort of shelf between the bathtub and the the wall. Mr. Redd was very careful to make sure that the water was seeping back through the cracks in the grout and not coming from the pipes inside the walls. He explained that If that were the case he could fix the problem temporarily but it would end up being a much bigger headache later. He finished the job in about two hours and cleaned up before he left. I have used Mr. Redd before and both times have been impressed with the quality of his work and very reasonable prices.
Description of Work: Mr. Redd fixed some loose ceramic tile and cracks in the grout around the bathtub.

Mr. Redd provided an initial estimate, but we both agreed that it was difficult to tell how much work would be required, as the extent of the water damage couldn't be known until some of the tile was removed. He returned the next morning as planned. He carefully removed the tile, cleaned off the old grout and caulking, modified the surface as needed, and replaced the old tile. It looks 100% better! The work was done quickly and well. Mr. Redd cleaned up when he was done and even fixed, at no charge, an electric outlet that was pulling away from the wall in the bathroom. (He noticed it when he tried to plug in his shop vac to clean up the tile debris, and had I told him that fixing it was on my husband's "To Do" list.) I'm very happy with the work that he did, and very much appreciated his follow-up call two days later to make sure I was still satisfied with the job done. I felt that his fee was a little low based on the time it took and the job he did so I paid $100 even though he only charged $85.

He showed up on time, did the job in a day as promised, made little mess, and cleaned up upon completion. The tile installation looks good and we're very happy with it. We'd recommend him to my mother.
Description of Work: Merv Redd did a fine job of installing ceramic tile in our bathroom - approx. 50 SF. We picked out the tile at a tile supplier, Merv picked it up and installed it. He installed the new ceramic tile over old, which required undercutting door jambs and some wood base. His price included everything - including the tile we picked out.

I am pretty happy with them. They did a pretty good job. There was an issue with some of the grouting but when I called about it, they did come back and fix it for me. I bought all of the tile and they supplied the grout. For just the grout and labor it was like $1500. I thought that it was pretty fair. I would recommend them because I am satisfied and they cleared up any issues I had.
Description of Work: I had ceramic tile installed in three bathrooms and also a ceramic tile wall as well. Redd's did this all for me.
