If I were able to leave 0 stars, I would. This is the absolute worst moving company we have ever dealt with in 35-years of moves. They lost a bunch of boxes, an area rug, a box spring, and other furniture. They crushed a power washer, destroyed furniture edges by dragging the pieces on the ground, destroyed a new washer and dryer set, dented, gouged, scratched and scraped the other furnishings. Dragged a VERY expensive area rug and tore off the fringe. They also modified paperwork and said we had to sign it saying they unpacked items when all they did was unbox 2 mattresses. They didn't put together the beds as required by their contract. After calling and waiting since mid-June, we have no items returned and New Bell doesn't return calls. Do NOT recommend this company!!!!
Description of Work: Move household goods into temporary storage, and then deliver and set up at our house.

Truck was over 3 hours late at pickup and the driver was inexperienced -- she spent virtually zero time supervising the movers or the truck pack-up, which was completely out of the ordinary for the previous nine moves I've made (military). The crew that arrived for delivery indicated that they had worked previous day until 1am and hadn't gotten much sleep over last 3 days -- not confidence inspiring. The crew failed to automatically put down any protective material for our brand new bamboo hardwood floors or to pad thresholds, etc to prevent damage to my home -- again, completely out of the ordinary for previous moves. When I asked them to do this, they didn't do it correctly. Multiple items delivered were broken/torn and boxes were wet -- I noticed that one of the truck doors was ajar at the top seal so I suspect this is from rain intrusion. Bottom line: I've moved 10 times in 16 years with the US Navy and this was by far the worse. I've never previously had to call the Navy Household Goods Office to intervene for assistance but I did for this move.
Description of Work: Government-funded household goods move from Springfield, VA to Chesapeake, VA.

They packed things in incorrect packing boxes. Most notably, our 46" TV was not put in a TV box, it was put in a frame box and it was damaged. They sent their movers over without enough tape. In the middle of the day, they took a two hour break to go get more tape, which was a waste of our time. When our stuff arrived, the movers that unpacked us commented that a lot of it was packed incorrectly and we were lucky more stuff wasn't broke.
Description of Work: They packed up our house and put it on a third party van line.

Movers from Newbell Packing and Storage arrived on Friday the 25th of March to move my packed boxes and furniture. Shortly after their departure I noted that my son's IPOD Touch ($180 value) and a family camera ($200 value) had been stolen. We know that these items were not accidentally packed and moved as they were specifically segregated away from all our boxes and furniture that were scheduled to be moved. None of our other property that was so segregated was accidentally packed/moved and the moving crew admits, in post event interviews, that they understood where these boundaries were and that the camera and IPOD were not accidentally packed. Physical barriers had to be crossed to get to the IPOD and camera indicating that it required a deliberate act to take them. I called Newbell Packing and Storage and filed a complaint. Initially they showed great interest; however, this quickly proved to be a ruse. I was asked to file a police report and to forward the report to Newbell. I accomplished both in short order, but Newbell failed to acknowledge by email that they had received copies of the police reports and failed to return repeated phone call messages that I had left inquiring as to what the next step would be. When I finally connected with the service representative that I had been dealing with, he informed me that he was no longer handling the case and that I would have to discuss the issue with another Newbell employee. Following several more unreturned phone messages, I finally made contact with the Newbell employee assigned to my complaint. Since this time I have endured evasiveness, combativeness, insincerity, along with contradictory and accusatory statements. Newbell has not responded to any of my phone messages. Newbell only replies to my emails when I send them twice. Newbell has not once initiated contact with me to inform me of any details regarding this case. When I am able to contact them, they are not forthcoming with the details of their investigation thus far nor are they willing to share the details of future planned action. It appears that Newbell is following a campaign designed to cause sufficient frustration and delay to the point where the customer throws in the towel. The only detail that Newbell has shared with me is that they plan to perform polygraph tests on the individuals in question; however, this plan has been in the works for some time and they are still unable or unwilling to inform me regarding the details as to where, when, and how the tests will be administered, the credentials of the testing agency, how the results will be reviewed, and exactly what steps will be taken afterwards and with what timeliness. Their silence leaves me with diminishing expectations for reasonable resolution in this matter. In addition to all this, Newbell (conveniently ignoring the opaqueness of their customer service relations and management decision processes) possessed the unmitigated gall to suggest that I should pay for any polygraph tests that fail to indicate a theft occurred. This is an unreasonable request considering that I have not been offered the opportunity to share in the decision process for which polygraph firm will be hired, what questions will be asked, where, when and how the results will be reviewed, etc.
Description of Work: New Bell packed and moved my possessions. However, items were stolen and New Bell has not taken the report of theft seriously. They claim they are investigating, but they refuse to share details, tell me what the next step is, or when I might expect to hear back from them. They do not return my phone calls and it takes them a week to respond to my emails with anything more than an acknowledgement for receipt. When they do respond to emails they do not supply any meaningful details. When I am able to contact New Bell on the phone I find them combative at best and accusatory at worst. They have not made sincere attempts to resolve this issue.

Packers were great, and no problems. 1st set of movers complained to main office that their tractor-trailer was to big for this job, he was released, 2 days later another driver arrived (same size tractor-trailer), and packed all items. Would not deliver till received full payment, Delivery was fine. After repeated attempts to estimator and supervisor (left many messages) no return calls
Description of Work: Estimate of $4800.00 was agreed upon (initial bid of $5,880 -- I questioned and price was reduced to $4,800.00) Packers came in packed all household items, and signed paper work for price of $4,800.00. 1 week later, movers arrived, (I was then relocated to another state) pack all items, I then received a bill for $9,300.00 and was told they would not deliver my item till payment was paid in full. I feel I was mislead and held hostage for payment. I highly recommend to NOT use this company, please beware!

Response from NEW BELL MOVING & STORAGE
This was [This Member's] 2nd move with us, after having a positive initial move. The estimate given to him was $5880 based off of 10,000 lbs. He signed it, but felt the need to recontact the estimator to change the quote & weight, based off of "his opinion" that he thought his weight was considerably less, as we had already moved parts of his residence. The estimator came to me and discussed the situation. The estimator changed the weight & estimate down to 7500 lbs AND explained that [This Member] would be only charged for actual weights & services as it's explained on his contract & Rights and Responsibilities Booklet along with the explanation of collection of charges (subparth h, pg 17). [This Member] agreed & signed his Non-Binding contract. [This Member's] actual weight was 14,400 lbs, resulting in charges totaling $9239.48. I explained that we would send a copy of his certified weight ticket, and discussed his charges and everything that took place with his move. [This Member] did understand, but still was in disbelief of his actual weight, in comparison to what "he believed" he was sending. As a courtesy, we offered to re-weight shipment at destination. [This Member] asked to process pymt on his Master Card by signing his credit card release form. He mentioned (as he was not present during his pack or load out) that the crews were great and thanked us for the service.

I was satisfied with their services, except one thing, that, they packed plates on my wine glasses and that broke. Everything that I packed was moved fine. I paid them $1250 to move my items and $200 every month, to store my things. They were reasonably priced, in comparison to a lot other movers. I appreciate the idea of storing my stuff in Virginia itself, as I had no definite place to stay and if, I had it moved to Boston and then again moving from there to my flat, would cost me a lot. They helped me save a lot of money. The move was an easy one and they did a good job. The staff who moved the items were all employed by the company directly and not day laborers. I will sue their services in the future, if required.
Description of Work: I used the services of New Bell Moving & Storage for moving, in June, 2010.

If you have high-end or antique furniture, you may want to re-think Atlas New Bell. We went to great lengths to show the movers the delicate, fragile and most expensive pieces. We watched the movers bring the furniture out of the house, covered with moving pads. It went into storage for a month. When it was delivered, one of the most expensive pieces had a 4 inch piece gouged out of the top, a Queen Anne leather wing chair had its leg broken off, a Stickley cabinet had a 14 inch scrape (un-repairable) in the top, an antique desk had the ledge broken off, a 300 year old chest had the base pulled off and the top edge was pulled away. A new bed had its headboard completly seperated from the the sides. I could go on, but as I said, if you have expensive furniture, do not assume that this is the company that will be responsible. My husband was in the military for 27 years with many moves and I moved numerous times in corporate America. Neither of us has ever experienced the sum total level of damage that occurred in one simple move which didn't even change our zip code. And NO, there is no amount of insurance coverage that can repair or compensate for the destruction in this move. Pictures available upon request. Be warned.
Description of Work: We needed to move out of our existing home three weeks before closing on our new home. Our furniture had to go into storage during the intrim. We interviewed three companies. But we went with New Bell because they do Military storeage as well, which means, at least some of their work is subject to scruitany. However, we were considered civilian.

I purchased a new home in May and need the services of a moving company. New Bell performed both moves one from Condo to new home and one from a storage unit to new home. Both moves were fast easy with no damages at all. The employees were very respectful and professional at handling both my good stuff as well as my junk. Highly recommended !!!

Our experience with New Bell was very good overall. The packers were very thorough and careful with our items. The only casualty was a wine glass. They were prompt and professional. I wish they had been more specific in labeling boxes. The movers were prompt on the next day as well. They performed their job well. They were hard working and courteous. They loaded up our entire house. We encountered a few minor problems unloading at the new house. They placed some of our boxes in strange rooms (a box clearly marked ''books'' was in the garage and my underwear and socks were in the attic). I also had to go back and redo some of their work assembling furniture. But that could have been remedied with closer supervision on my part.
Description of Work: New Bell recently performed a local move for us.

They were absolutely wonderful to deal with and they really limited the hassle of moving. I didn t have anything come up missing or broken. The gentleman who drove for us was wonderful and he treated me very nicely and I had no complaints about this company. I couldn t recall the price of the move.
