Well, after I purchased the deal on Angie's List (June 20, 2016) a couple days went by without word from the company, so I called them that Thursday to see what was going on and they told me that someone would be coming out to do the measurements. Thursday afternoon they showed up to do the measurements and I talked with them to show them what I wanted and everything went good. The rep told me that someone would send me an invoice of some sort explaining everything but before I knew it, they showed up Friday afternoon to install the gutters, no contact, no warning or anything. The rep apologized and went to work, but they had to stop in the middle of the job because they did not have all the pieces they needed and from the conversation I thought they told me that they would be back the next day, but no one showed. Monday cam around, no contact, so I called and they said someone would be in touch...nothing. Tuesday came and they tried to finish but it starting raining so they had to call it. The only contact I had to inform me of this was a text message. Wednesday (June 29, 2016) I text them back and asked if the work was done and the reply was that they were wrapping up. I still have not received any paperwork from them explaining what they did and how many feet of gutter they put up, keep in mind that the deal was 125 linear feet for $500, so I do not even know if they met that mark or not but I was not going to ask them back to add on anything else after this experience.

I apologize for the delay in communication. My rep advised me that he called a few times and there was no response. Unfortunately we do not provide any paperwork when an Angie's List deal is purchased. We threw in an extra down spout at no additional cost. I am sorry you had a bad experience, but thanks for your business.

Had a few delays with installation, but that is to be expected with contractors that rely on the weather to get the job done. They communicated in advance. Kevin was quick with the install when he arrived and everything looks good and appears to be working properly. Price was significantly less than the other quotes I received. Would use them in the future.

I had 2 leaks in the roof and had 3 different roofers take a look a provide an estimate. Roof is 14 years old so wasn't anxious to replace whole roof but received estimates for that as well. All 3 roofers are A rated in Angie's List. First one looked from the ground and made a determination that it was a seal. 2nd one went into attic and diagnosed the problem as a leak around a roof vent. He also recommended a new roof. (recommending a new roof without going on the roof to look at it!) Kevin, from Murray Home Improvements, actually went on the roof and into the attic. Imagine that - a roofer going on the roof! He saw that indeed there was a leak around the roof vent but also some missing shingles a couple of feet beyond the vent and that is where the second leak was coming from. Showed me the pictures. His price for the correct diagnosis was more reasonable than the other 2. Kevin came out within a couple of days and repaired the problems. He also told me that I could still go a couple of years without replacing the roof. His estimate for whole roof replacement, had I decided to do that, was $2000-$3000 less than the other 2. The difference too is that I trust him. He also said that whenever we decide to replace the roof he would deduct the cost of the repair from the total even though it will probably be in a few years. Now that's customer service! He is professional, honest, respectful and prompt and I would definitely recommend him! I give this roofer an A+.

This was my second experience with Murray. And I am hopeful to use them again. They are a family owned business. I needed my gutters replaced the week before Christmas, and within 48 hours of purchasing their deal the job was completed. They even identified a potential problem area and corrected it at no additional cost. Great communication, great follow up, great work ethic, and very affordable. A rarity these days. I would highly recommend them to anyone for any home improvement needs.

Kevin did an excellent job. Not only were they the most competitive in pricing, but they also delivered great service. Both my windows and my new roof look amazing. They were also really good about cleaning up the mess. When they initially tore my roof off, I was concerned about how much clean up I would have to do but when I arrived home the next day it was as if nothing had happened (minus my beautiful new roof)! He also didn't complain about my dogs being around which I appreciate since they really hate having to be locked up when I'm home. I appreciate the great work that they have done on my home and I will definitely use them in the future should I need work in this area again.

Kevin and Victoria were wonderful professionals who kept in constant contact with me until the job was done. Victoria responded to my email immediately and Kevin came out to the house to assess the problem. They provided an immediate quote which my husband and I were satisfied with. Victoria drove to my house to drop off the contract which made it very convenient for me. On the day of the repairs and install, Kevin and his team showed up promptly and communicated with me throughout the whole process until the job was finished. The outcome was beautiful, updated gutters and siding. My husband and I will definitely use them again. They have earned our sincerest recommendation.

Terrible!! My Dealings with Murray Home Improvements I recently got an account on Angie?s List so I am posting this letter that I originally typed up back in 2011. During the last week of July, 2011, I contacted Murray Home Improvements and I spoke with Victoria Clymo, who identified herself as the owner. I explained to her that I needed to get my house power washed, gutters installed on my garage and shed, the existing gutters on my house cleaned, and a gate repaired in a section of my privacy fence. Victoria sent Kevin Murray and another gentleman, whose name I don?t recall, to my house the following day to estimate the cost to complete the job. Later the same day, Victoria called me back and told me the price would be $650 for materials and labor. She mentioned that her crew would use the existing fence section to build a gate. I asked her if that would be sufficient, since the fence was old, and she stated that it would not be a problem. Victoria also told me that she would need half the money upfront before they could start the work and that the remaining half would be due after the work was completed. I accepted the terms and on August 1, 2011, I met with Victoria (in a Kmart parking lot. I later searched for the address of the company but Google Maps showed it as an apartment. ). I signed the contract and gave her $325 cash. It was agreed that her crew would start the job the next day while I was at work. On the afternoon of August 2, Victoria called me to inform me that her crew had finished all the work and that they were at my home waiting to get paid. I told Victoria that I was at work and didn?t know when I could make it home. I asked her to send me a bill for the remaining balance but she insisted that she needed the money that day. About two and half hours later, I arrived at home. Her crew had already left. I checked the work and was pleased with everything but the gate. It was flimsy and poorly built. Screws were exposed, the wood was split where screws were inserted, the hinges were weak, and the only way to keep the gate closed was to place something in front of it. About an hour later, Victoria called me back and asked again to be paid. I told her that if she sent her crew out to fix the gate, I would pay them before they left. She agreed. Around 7:00 pm, Kevin and his partner (referred to from this point forward as Worker2) arrived at my home. I first told them that I like the work they did with the pressure washing and the gutters. Worker2 stated that they were able to clean everything except a section of downspout gutter, which he said he couldn?t get unclogged. Kevin disagreed and stated that he was able to clean the clog. I then pointed out that I was not satisfied with the gate and pointed out the issues I had with it. Kevin became defensive and stated that the gate was poorly built because the material he had to use was old and of poor condition. I reminded Kevin that I didn?t limit or require him to use the existing fence material. I also stated that regardless of the material used, I felt he could have built a sturdier gate and that I didn?t expect the one he had built to make it through the winter without falling apart. During this conversation, Kevin was getting more defensive. I then asked them to do whatever they could to make the gate sturdier and to replace the split wood and exposed screws. Kevin stated that he would not fix the gate unless I paid him more money. I told him that I was not going to pay him to fix what he should have done right the first time. He then tells me that if I didn?t pay extra, he would not fix the gate. Again I said that II was not going to pay extra. I then told him that if he did not fix the gate, I would deduct $50 from what I owed him since I would have to find someone to build it correctly. Kevin then responds that if I did that, he was going to charge me an extra $50 for power washing my garage. I responded that I didn?t ask him to wash my garage, it was not in the contract, and that the garage was only 3 months old and didn?t need power washing. In fact, I couldn?t tell that it had been cleaned. At this point Kevin is starting to get loud and in a confrontational voice, he tells me that he was not going to let me cheat him out of his money and that I was going to pay him all of what I owe him. I tell him that if he doesn?t fix the gate, I will deduct $50 from what I owe. Kevin argues more and continues to tell me that I?m going to pay him. He seems even more confrontational and threatening, so I tell him to get out of my yard and leave my property. At first he stays and continues to argue. I?m getting angry at this point so I tell him to leave my property before I throw him off. Kevin then says ?fine? and tells his partner to disassemble to gate so he could get all the hinges. I tell him not to touch the gate and to gather their tools and leave. At this point, I go into my wallet, pull out 3 $100 dollar bills and give it to Kevin. I tell him that I?m shorting him $25 and if he still has a problem with that, send me a bill. I tell him I?d be happy to go to court to explain why I shorted him the $25. At this point, Kevin yells something about putting a lien on my home. I ask him to just write me a receipt for the money I gave him. Kevin is still angry and says that he was going to get his cell phone out of his truck to call the police. I tell him not to bother because I had my cell phone and I would call them myself. As I pull out my phone, Kevin and his partner began walking toward their truck. I follow them and ask Kevin to give me a receipt for the $300 I gave him. He tells me to get a copy of the contract and would write what I paid on it. I tell him that I don?t have my copy and to write it on his copy. He says he doesn?t have it so I tell him to write what I paid on a piece of paper and sign it. He still insists that I go get my copy of the contract. I tell him I don?t have it and to write it on a blank piece of paper. He says okay and goes to sit in the passenger side of his truck. I?m thinking he?s trying to get me a receipt so I wait near the side of the truck. He then tells his partner to put the tools up and get in the truck. His next action was nothing short of bold and shocking. After his partner gets in the truck, Kevin slams his door, locks it and tells his partner to drive. I?m caught off guard and since I?m standing right beside the truck, I grab a drill of the truck bed and yell to him to come back and write me out a receipt and I would give the drill back. He rolls down the window of the truck, while driving away, and screams out, ?Keep it, it?s broken anyway?? His complete phrase was offensive and insulting. I immediately complete my call to the police and request they come out to my home. Before the police arrive, Victoria calls me and starts yelling at me with inappropriate language. She says that her crew called her and stated that I refused to pay them and then stole their tools off their truck. She is yelling so I tell her to call back when she wants to find out what really happened and that the police were on the way over. Then I hung up on her. Later the police arrive and I tell them everything that happened. I also told the police which neighbor was in their yard and witness the entire event. While the police are at my home, I called Victoria back and told her what happen also. I had her on speaker phone so the police could hear the conversation. She is still upset and arguing with me and tells me that I was acting "niggerish". Even the policeman couldn't believe he said that. Victoria tells me that her workers reported to her that I assaulted them and stole their tools and that they were going to file charges to the police. I told her that her workers were lying and that two of my neighbors stood in their yard and watched the entire event. After further discussion, Victoria agreed that she would come over and pick up the drill and give me a receipt for the $300. After I hung up the phone and the police left, I got a text from someone stating that Victoria was not going to come to pick up the drill and that they were going to police station instead to file assault charges. I called the number back, expecting to speak to Victoria. Kevin answers and tells me that he owns the company and he was not going to let his ?wife? come over and get the drill. He then tells me that he will be over the next morning to get his drill and I "better" have it when he got there. I tell him that he has no reason to come to my house because I was headed to the local police station to take the drill there. I immediately took the drill to the police station and filled out a thorough statement of what transpired. The officer who had earlier come by my home stated that she had spoken to Victoria again and that she was taking Kevin to the emergency room because of his injuries. Victoria said that Kevin would be filing a police report against me for assault. The officer said she asked to be kept informed and told Victoria that she would be interviewing my neighbors the next day. As of today, I never got a receipt and have not heard further from Murray Home Improvements. According to the police, no charges were ever filed against me for anything. As far as the work they did for me, the gate broke within 2 months, so I had to build another one, and the gutter had a clog in it that caused water to come out of the top during big rains. I?m 6? 4? and 265 pounds. I can?t help to think that if this guy acted this way towards me and, he has either done this before or will be doing it to someone else in the future. This was the most unprofessional and downright crooked company I?ve ever dealt with. ***** Murray Home Improvements doesn?t need to be trusted to provide services for anyone. *****!

Yes, we did meet the customer at the Kmart parking lot to sign the contract and receive the initial deposit. The reason being that the customer worked in Norfolk and we were in Norfolk as well, it was convenient for the both of us. Upon completing the job, we did expect payment. Our contract terms are half down and the balance due UPON COMPLETION of the job. Yes, my guys waited around, because we were not able to make it back to Suffolk in the coming days to pick up payment. As the contract stated, we would be re-using the existing fence to repair the gate. The customer then did not like the repair and wanted us to replace the entire gate at no additional cost to him. That was not happening because of cost of materials and extra labor that was not set out in the contract. The customer became very combative with Mr. Murray and took a saw out of Mr. Murray's hand after pushing him to the ground. Of course Kevin felt threatened---the customer states above that he is a large man. Kevin jumped in the truck, locked the door and left. (after all, he was pushed down to the ground moments before, so it was hard to tell what the customer's next move was) We did advise the customer we would be filing charges. We were in the process of doing so when the customer's Commanding Officer in the Navy called asking for us not to press charges, because it would damage the customer's career. He assured us that he would take care of the issues we came across and there would be no further issues. The customer was simply upset because he wanted a new gate at no additional cost (when the contracted amount of money was to do a simple repair using the existing gate already there.) You can't please everyone but we sure do give 100 % trying and tried to reason with the customer before his actions went too far.

The actual workers who did the roof did a decent job (not great & not bad either) and acted professional. The main office was slow, unresponsive (to customer and insurance company queries), borderline unprofessional, late in scheduling the work by weeks, and overcharged (per Insurance Company estimate and all other vendors' quotes...even other Angie's List specials received via email - later on). Overall REGRET going with this company...had I enjoyed Angie's prior to this major $$$ decision...I would have selected a different company...and been better informed for such an important/expensive long term investment decision.

First and foremost, Mr. (member name removed) your only contact with Our company was through telephone/email, we never met with you in person. You were not there when the job was completed...did not see/meet the workers or see that Mr. Murray was on the job the ENTIRE time. (Or the fact that the job was finished in a day and a half....two roofs, side by side...done in a day and a half). The funny thing is that you and your neighbor got your roof done at the same time and your neighbor had absolutely no complaints. (He too has submitted reviews) Our company even went back out to your home and replaced one of the roof vents you tried to say we installed improperly---in fact the roof vent was torn off by high winds from a storm (even the insurance guy stated that). I'm sorry but you can't control the weather, the job was only postponed because of rain. You also had special order shingles that took a couple of weeks to come in anyways. If you were so concerned about the estimate price, why didn't you shop around before making such a big long term investment decision.

Kevin Murray came to my home and gave me an estimate a few hours after I called. I found him to be very knowledgeable and professional. He completed the job when he said he would and it was excellent workmanship. I intend to use Murray Home Improvements for all my home improvement needs. I am also planning to send his contact information to all of my clients who are in need of any work done on their homes.
Description of Work: Kevin & his team repaired my roof where some shingles had blown off, and they also replaced some front gutters and down spouts.

I would highly recommend Murray Home Improvements. I contacted Murray after two other "highly rated" companies listed on Angie's List flaked out on me. When I called Murray for an estimate, Ken arrived on time and provided me a reasonable estimate on the spot. His price was significantly lower than the other companies I had contacted. We agreed upon a start date and although he did arrived later than scheduled, he called to let me know and did not leave me hanging. His work crew included himself, his father and another worker. All of them were extremely respectful and professional to me while in my home, which I especially appreciated as a single woman. I was very satisfied with their work and equally important to me, I felt very comfortable with them in my home. The only hesitation I have about recommending Murray Home Improvements is that he might get too busy to help me with the rest of the renovation work I have planned on my home... but honestly, these are good people. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Created soffit venting along roofline. Used 1/2# plywood to reinforce attack flooring for storage.

If you are looking for a company to upgrade the exterior of your home, look no further than Murray Home Improvements. My experience with them were positive from start to finish. The price quoted was more than fair and far below their competitors. Unlike others all work is performed by Murray employees, not subcontracted out to another individual or company. Kevin and his employees were very professional and courteous. They went above and beyond to ensure our expectations were not only met but exceeded.Jobs performed:- Inspection and quote. Kevin Murray treats all of his customers in an extremely professional manner. His inspection was thorough and detailed. His quote was more than fair and included a discount for my military service. The price also was all inclusive and included removal of the old stuff, damaged wood replacement, new windows, weather wrapping, new siding, new exterior doors, new light fixtures and doorbell.- Removal of all old windows and siding. All windows and siding were stripped from our house and hauled off for disposal. I was shocked to learn that none of my windows were installed with any type of weather sealing material. They weren't even caulked, just nailed up to the side of the home (original builder). The wrap under the siding was tar type (minimum builder grade and protection).- Replacement of damaged wood. Like most other houses built in my neighborhood, the "hidden" damage was fairly significant. This was mainly due to the improper installation of windows by the original builder. If you see water damage around your windows you may want to get a deeper check to see just how bad it is under that siding. Not only did they have to replace nearly all the wood around my windows but there were locations where standing mold was discovered, removed and thoroughly cleaned.- Windows installed and weatherproofing installed over wood. Double hung, energy efficient windows replaced my old ones. TYPAR paper was applied over all exposed wood and all widows were triple sealed ending with some sort of heat shrinking tape that sealed all sides of each window, keeping my a/c and heat in my house and the bad weather out. Insulated foam padding was applied over the house wrap, which added yet another form of weather protection, insulation and actually a great level of soundproofing from outside noises. - Siding installed. This is where I really learned of Kevin and his teams dedication to me, the customer. during this phase of the project bad weather (rain) came at the wrong time. Instead of accepting defeat to mother nature, Kevin and his partner Cory rigged up a tarp that shielded their work area and allowed them to continue as planned. The siding was installed with extreme professionalism and care. I was amazed at the transformation my house was taking with every section completed. Kevin made numerous recommendations for improvement by adding siding to area's that were previously bare wood. Am I glad I agreed to all of his recommendations. Also noted is the fact that acceptance to these recommendations did not incur further cost.- Doors and lights installed. Both exterior doors were installed and care was taken to ensure they we sealed from the outside and leak-proof. My old patio door was of non-standard size and was only available from one supplier at a fairly high cost. Murray agreed to expand my doorway, relocate outlets, replace new header and surrounding studs in order to install a standard french door at a very low cost. Although I had to pay for this service it ended up saving me nearly $200 by not utilizing non-standard doors. Old lights were replaced. We did pay a few more dollars for upgraded lights because I wanted motion sensor lights to replace my old ones. Again additional cost was very minimal.- Windows caulked and drywall repaired. Cory was very thorough while ensuring all windows were sealed from the inside with caulk. His skills at fixing drywall are that of an expert. He also ensured all excess was cleaned from the window edges providing a new, clean look. This man is skilled!Overall I cannot say enough about the quality of work and the continued professionalism of Kevin Murray and his team. My house is now the showpiece of the neighborhood. It is also extremely energy efficient and nearly soundproof. Most importantly though, I now have piece of mind to know that my house is completely weatherproof and the water damage I imagined was behind my siding was and rotten wood were confirmed, repaired and prevention measures for future damage were applied. Murray Home Improvements will take care of all of my future exterior need in future years!
Description of Work: Removed old siding and windows, replaced damaged wood. They then wrapped house with TYPAR paper, applied foam padding and installed new windows, doors and siding. All windows were triple sealed and caulked from the inside.
