In conclusion, I highly recommend avoiding Mr. Allen for any type of work on your home. He is impossible to reach via call or text and when he does decide to answer, he has a million excuses (either out of town or family problems). While I did feel empathy for him at the beginning, my patience has really worn thin four months later with no resolution. One of the last conversations I had with Mr. Allen was me requesting to have him send a money order (since he claims to be out of town all the time and can't meet me anywhere). Over two weeks later still no money order and still no response. I had already filed a case with the Better Business Bureau (no resolution) and am now forced to put a case together to submit to the Norfolk District Court. At this point, the issue is not so much about money as it is the principle. I don't want any other homeowners to have to go through the aggravation I have experienced with Mr. Allen over the past year. This is the hardest I have ever worked for $750! Avoid this business at all costs!!!
Description of Work: Hired Clayton Allen Roofing in May 2016 to install new roof, fascia/soffit wrap, gutters and chimney cap. There were various quality of work issues from the beginning and, while some were resolved, the chimney cap was not. After Mr. Clayton Allen installed a chimney cap, during the next rain, water began to drip down the chimney. Spoke with Mr. Allen and he sent one of his roofers to attempt to identify the source of the leak. Per his own roofer, they stated that the chimney cap was not installed correctly. I spoke with Mr. Allen and we agreed that I hire a professional chimney company and he would reimburse me for the cost. On Wednesday, November 3rd, the professional chimney company came out and removed the old chimney cap and installed a new one. During the replacement, the chimney company stated that the wrong material was used (aluminum; should be stainless or galvanized), the chase cover was cut too wide and nailed through the top, which causes leaks. Also, some of the nails were bent and not caulked properly. It was eluded to the fact that Mr. Allen did not know what he was doing.

Very happy with the work. Good follow up and communication. Very reasonable and affordable compared to other quotes I received for the same work.

I paid half down and he had a crew replace facial wood and wrapped the new wood in vinyl. Mr. Allen promised to come back in a day or two to finish the job. The remainder of the work consisted of replacing the flat roof with new roofing material and capping the edges with metal flashing. As of 8/2/2012 he still had not completed the work. He called me stating he'd get it soon. Later that day the old roof blew off in a storm (it had not been properly fastened down after the initial repairs). Luckily I was able to temporarily fasten the rubber membrane back on with wood screws. Had I not been home when this happened and not been able to do so I would have suffered thousands of dollars in damage to my home. I called him in a panic and the first thing he tried to do was blame his crew for poor work. I called him the next day and he said he'd, "get back with me". He did all he could to place the blame on his crew, even though I insisted that if he'd completed the work in a timely manner there would be no issue now. It is now 8/7/2012 and he has not called me back. I'm working to find a COMPETENT roofer to finish the work and am contemplating taking legal action against him. I hope as many people as possible who are considering using Clayton Allen roofing read this and save themselves the heartache and frustration of dealing with an individual who has no scruples and apparently no conscience when it comes to taking care of his customers and honoring his contracts. He is not to be trusted.
Description of Work: I hired Mr. Allen and contracted with him on 7/3/2012 to replace a small flat roof (approximately 8x10) and repair/replace the wood facing around a dormer on my home.

We are in the process of cleaning out our attic and I've found mold all over the floor, walls, and our belongings. When I looked up at the ceiling I noticed so much moisture and mold that you can stick your hand straight through the plywood. I called Mr. Clayton on March 15 and informed him of the leak asking him to come out and fix it. He came out and tried to charge me additional $350 to fix the damage, even though we purchased a 30 year warranty when the roof was redone. I didn't schedule any work at that time. So, I contacted a different company and they did an inspection. They told me the roof wasn't properly installed by Mr. Clayton. The estimate the new company gave me was $3200. After getting a third estimate, I decided to call Mr. Clayton back. He told me he'd come out to make this right but he hasn't came and now he won't return my calls or messages. I know have a new company out to redo my roof and they've found so much damage and mold from Mr. Clayton's work that we are now having the work completely redone.
Description of Work: I hired them to replace my roof.
