On four occasions I tried to schedule a cleaning, but only on the fourth try could Call A Maid come at a mutually convenient day and time. The person who answers the phone does not schedule appointments but only take a message and has someone else call back. When I finally was able to schedule an appointment, they cancelled the day of the appointment, telling me that their crew had been in a car accident and that they were short-staffed. We re-scheduled for the following day, but no maid ever showed up. Despite repeated calls to them, I have not heard any response.
Description of Work: I paid for two vouchers for housecleaning through BuyWithMe.com, and Call A Maid never showed up for the scheduled appointment. I have made four phone calls to them since the missed appointment and have not yet received a call back. So I have received no service despite pre-paying for it.

I purchased a voucher for half off a house cleaning with Call A Maid, using one of those coupon sites. I planned to use it the day before my daughter's first birthday party, so I didn't have to cook and clean and watch a baby. The Good: The substitute cleaner was prompt, sweet, and tolerated my barky dog and curious baby. She also cleaned around the extended family who showed up in the middle of her cleaning. (They moved from room to room, but still it was probably annoying to have to herd them). She was initially open to using my natural cleaners and was very nice overall. The accounts manager (?) to whom I spoke a few days after the cleaning, Mr. A, was also polite, listened to my whole complaint, and did apologize. The Bad: The cleaning wasn't all that thorough. I had asked for all the cobwebs to be cleaned; they weren't. The 'mopping' that they do consists of spraying cleanser on the floor and then wiping it up with a towel-mop thing. I was picking clumps of pet hair and leaves out of the corners of the rooms all night. The cleaner was unaccustomed to the amount of elbow grease required to use natural cleansers and begged to use Ajax on my shower. (I let her because she was so damned nice). In all, she spent only 2 hours cleaning my 1500 square foot home which really isn't enough time to do a very good job. I don't think much beyond the absolute basics was done. (Yes, I should have done a walk through but I was putting the baby down for a nap when she left so I didn't end up seeing her out.) The Truly Annoying: Their inflexible adherence to policies and lack of concern for individual details. The person who scheduled my cleaning said that my 'cleaning appointment is from 11 to 1' which led me to believe it began at 11 and ended at 1. So when 11:15 rolled around and no one had showed or called, I called the Call A Maid. Their number was disconnected. I called the voucher issuer who also couldn't contact them and they offered me a refund. THEN about 30 minutes later someone from Call A Maid called to say the cleaner was running late; I must admit that I yelled a little and that person arranged for another cleaner to come immediately. But the voucher issuer wouldn't rescind the cancellation, Call A Maid won't honor the coupon price and I'm stuck paying $130 for a cleaning that I would value around $60. Additionally, when I responded to their email invoice outlining my concerns over the price and the quality of the cleaning, I was told that I needed to complain within 24 hours of the cleaning in order for any corrections to be made. This policy is not stated anywhere on their website, nor was it provided when I scheduled the appointment. Regardless, I wasn't seeking corrections, but I question how it's good business to have such a limited policy without actually informing the customers?

Response from Call A Maid Inc
The customer purchased a discounted coupon through Living Social. On the day she scheduled her appointment she was clearly told that our service technicians arrive in two hour windows (9-11,11-1,1-3,3-5 and in our NYC office 5-7) This is made clear to all our customers. Customer asserts that on the day of her appointment she attempted to contact the company and the line was disconnected. The fact of the matter was that the telephone line was done for roughly 15 minutes that day because the line was being re-directed to our new call center. Customer sent an email to us and she was responded to right away. Despite having been told about the arrival windows customer was irate and unreasonable and so as a good will gesture the local manager pulled someone off another job and sent them to the customers home right away. Prior to the service technicians arrival customer called the coupon issuing company and asked for and received a refund hence at the time the tech arrived the customer already knew she had canceled the service yet she allowed the tech to clean her house knowing full well that by that time she had already received a refund. If for no other reason there was no refund issued as requested by the customer it would be because she sought to defraud the company. In any event, customer made no note of any dissatisfaction to us at all in fact she tipped the tech. Since the coupon became invalidated as a result of her asking for a refund it is our policy to bill for the actual amount of the cleaning which is what we did. It was not until customer received the bill that all of the alleged complaints arose about the service being sub standard. It is our policy to report any complaints within twenty four hours of a service appointment and we will gladly have the area re-cleaned. Customer made no such complaint. As such we decline to refund half of the cleaning price.
