Mike and a coworker came on a Friday to start the job. The paint and flooring were completed that day. He ensured he would be back on Monday to complete the base board trim. We paid Mike in full with an $800 check and believed he would be back on Monday to complete the job. The check was cashed immediately, BUT THE WORK NEVER FINISHED. After weeks, unanswered calls and texts, Mike finally replied and stated he was "too busy on a kitchen job" to complete the work. My husband completed the job himself. Mike told us he would send a $200 check to us for the unfinished work. That was over a month ago... still no check and no calls. Mike refuses to return OUR money.
Description of Work: Called Mike to do some work on our small home gym. We needed him to install our rubber gym floor, paint, and do the trim work. We were quoted $800.

Besides not showing up at the beginning and taking over 8 weeks on a project by contract said would take four at the max. Mike left us high and dry after we paid him. He had some finishing work to do on the tiling which included sealing it but he never came back. Worse, he won't return are calls asking when he would finish his work he promised to do. Now we have tiles that are not sealed in and around the bath tub and cracking throughout all the grout he did. As all this was going on we did get him to come back once in the beginning of May, but that was because he was doing another job down the street and I literally drove down then and caught him in his van - this was after repeated messages went unanswered. When he finally returned for the last time he grouted the tub, said he was going to go down to the other project down the street as it dried and then would come back in a few hours wipe it down and caulk it. Never heard from him again. When I did get him back that last time I explained to him we can't have him not take our calls -- that we understand he's a small business and may have other jobs, but we need to hear from him so we could get a timeline when this would be done. My mistake for paying him, job had run long and he assured us it was just finishing work and he'd get it done but he really needed the payment. My mistake that I won't ever make again. We'd also would never have him back in our house. One other thing. We agreed to pay him $6K for the labor (materials separate, that we would pay for) for both bathrooms. We just accepted his offer without countering because we had thought it was in the ballpark and that we could trust him as well as not want to sour anything over a couple hundred bucks here and there. Also, when we paid on our credit card he complained about the credit card fee percent so we cut him a check to make up the difference. You never win when being nice. Hope people can learn from this, we are now stuck on getting a professional contractor in to finish up the mess he left before hopefully before we get any water damage behind the tile work. Disappointing.
Description of Work: We hired Mike to do two bathroom remodels for us this year. He had done a powder room for us before and in that case did a good job so we felt confident about using him again. This time around he did one of the bathrooms well, but the other is still not fully complete even though he has been paid in full.

Mike's remodeling is the worst contractor I have ever employed for any home service. I employed him to do remodeling of my master bathroom including expansion of the shower area, installing granite for my countertops, tiling, painting, and installation of new bathroom fixtures. The project started well. Mike quickly demolished the old bathroom and started to lay the cement board, struts, etc., required for the new bathroom. But, very soon the project tested Mike's competence. He initially estimated the project to take a month to finish, but it ran into several months. He would show up for work late in the day typically after 10:30am and leave around 5pm. During the course of the project he did a very poor job and I have accounted for some of the details below: 1) Tiling work was done very poorly. The bathroom floor was so uneven that water collects in several aras of the floor that I have to use the squeegee every day after the shower to drain the water. Also, the grouting was done so poorly that it cracked in several areas of the bench in the bathroom. 2) I noticed that Mike is not competent to handle modern bathroom fixtures. He struggled to install the bathroom fixtures correctly. The hot water had to be set in cold setting to get the hot water and vice versa. I had to get him on the phone with the American standard support person to get the setting right. Very often Mike would complain that the fixtures were faulty when in fact the truth is he was not competent to handle these fixtures. The fixture in my Roman tub was installed so poorly that the water collected in the floor board and leaked through the ceiling of my family room in the ground floor. Now I have to undertake an expensive paint job to repaint the ceiling of my family room. After several months of emails and phone calls to Mike, I got him to inspect the tub faucet and got him a new faucet, but he left the job incomplete leaving an ugly hole in the tile wall of my bath tub. Overall, Mike is incompetent, unresponsive, and should never be employed to undertake any remodeling project. I do not recommend him for any jobs. Ramesh

Response from Mike's Remodeling
This client is not telling all the truth here. For one... he called America Standard? I was the one that called America Standard and I have a witness to that. The reason why, because he didn't have the right fixture and when I told him that, he didn't believe me. So, i called America Standard to proved to him. My client order the right fixture on the phone with America Standard after they told him I was right. This client was by far the worst client I ever did work for. He never trusted me as his contractor and always questions me and my work. He had another contractor before me that done his basement and was suppose to do his bathroom. The other contractor order some materials for the bathroom, but not all of it was right. I wonder why this other contractor never came back to do his bathroom job? I did everything I can to keep this client happy at the beginning, but he just keep question everything I do, and not in a nice way. This is the first I heard about the tile work install incorrectly. It looks good to me, but again this is a client that is hard to please. About the bathroom floor.....I never touch his bathroom floor unless he was talking about his shower floor. Again, first to hear that one too. The only thing he completed to me about was the leaking tub faucet and the tile grout cracking in the shower area. He acts like this is my first bathroom job I every done. I done 100s of them so I am not new to this trade. And this is the only client that I have problems with. If I didn't knew how to do bathrooms remodeling or installing fixtures you will think I have a lot more bad reviews. I have been in business for 4 almost 5 years and just within 2011 I did 15 bathrooms remodeling jobs, but this is the only bad review I have gotten. I learned that you can't make everyone happy.....and this is the one time I couldn't. This client purchase not once but twice a bad leaking faucet. It was the same brand ( a home depot brand) that i highly recommended my client after the first faucet leak to buy a new brand because this is a poor quality brand, but he didn't listen to me because he thinks I don't know what I am talking about or I don't know how to install a faucet. I install the same brand faucet within 6 months he called me again and said that his grout in the shower area is cracking and there is a leak in his bathroom. I went out to check it out, took off the access panel ( that is on his tub deck) to see where the leak is coming from.....once again it was coming from the faucet. It was leaking under his tub and that is why his shower tile grout is cracking because water is getting underneath the grout. When I told him he need to buy a different brand faucet because he's having to many problem with this brand.....he start yelling at me telling me I didn't install the faucet right and I don't know what I am doing and that i should hire a master plumber to come out and take a look at my work. I install many many faucet.....I think i know how. Yes, this client got water damage from this faucet. He wants me to come out for free and fix the water damage that this faucet did. But, he claims it was my fault because I didn't install it right. I emailed him a lot of bad reviews about the faucet and others are having the same problems as he do. This faucet does not come with any good reviews. Others are having leaking problems as well and had to fix water damage from this brand of faucet. Once I emailed him the reviews and told him again that i highly recommended he buys another tub faucet to stop the leaking, he did. If he would have listen to me from the beginning, he wouldn't have the water damage he has now. I did went back out and change out his tub faucet ( with the new brand) and re-grout the shower area for no extra charge. But, that didn't even make him happy because he thinks its my fault anyway and I should have done it for no charge. If i was the one that purchased the faucet and install it....then yes. But, he purchase all the materials included the tub faucet and I just installed it. I am not responsible of the materials when it goes bad due to the homeowner purchased the materials and not me. He brought the tub faucet form a local home depot store. So he need to point the finger at the manufacturer and not at me for all the water damage. I took pictures of the leaking faucet the last time I was there and then after I install the new brand faucet i took more pictures ( the new faucet wasn't leaking) I do have pictures for proof. Again, if he would have listen to me from the beginning he wouldn't have all this water damage now. I install it right, it was just a bad faucet and he wouldn't believe me on it. Its hard to have a client that questions your work and everything you do.... telling you all of the time...you doing this wrong, you doing this wrong and you keep telling him your not, but they always question your work and treating you like you don't know how to do your job right,,,,,well this client was one of them. He was the most hardest client to work for. I try my best to get a lone with all my clients and most of them really like my work. If i had to rate this client I would rate him a big F. About the delay of the work...well i guess so when i didn't have the right materials to work with. Plus the tile he order came in wrong...so we had to wait on that. So it was more of delay of the materials plus he added more work to me that wasn't in the scope of work. He thought I was going to do it all for FREE. When i invoice him for the additional work he got upset and didn't want to pay. He did pay half of the invoice, but not the full price. I agree with half because I just wanted to move on with my next job. I do have job pictures and picture of the leaking faucet. You can see the water leaking in the picture, About the hole in his tub deck. That is call the access panel to get to his plumbing. I do agree with him on that.....i did left that open. Here is why: I came out on a Sunday to change his faucet and re-grout his shower area....I was going to put back up the access panel when my client put a heater in front of it to dry up the water from the leaking faucet. I showed him how to put back up the access panel when the water dry up, but he wanted me to stay and wait until the water dry up to put up the tile access panel. That can be hours or even days....It was already after 5pm. So i did left. Sorry, i wasn't going to wait around for hours until the water dry up. I also have a picture of the heater in front of the access panel to prove why I left it open. He forget that I didn't have to come back to change out the faucet or fix the cracking grout because the leaking faucet was a bad product from Home Depot that wasn't my fault, but I did anyway to keep the peace. You see what that got me.... a bad review on Angie list. Not a thank you..... I would like to dispute this review. Thanks
