Virginia Maid Kitchens

Excellent design sense, planning, responsiveness, progress communications, flexibility, and tracking of the project through closure. We are planning a master bathroom remodeling project and intend to seek this same team to do the work.

The contract was signed on March 31, 2015. The last visit by the installer was October 7, 2015 (28 weeks). This is an 8'x8' U shaped room (not large by anyone's definition). The appliances were not included in the installation price nor was the counter top. The cabinets were to be delivered 6 weeks from the date of the contract. The son of the owners was my salesman and he "helped" with the installation. Cabinets arrived that were the wrong size and/or the wrong design. Reordering took an additional 6 weeks. The refrigerator panel and 4 cabinet doors were wrong a second time and had another 6 week reorder. Lots of talk but little action until the mother became involved toward the end. I'm not sure that anyone thought to check the cabinets, doors, or panels as they arrived at Virginia Maid, and before they were brought to my house, to make sure that the correct ones had been delivered. In addition they were quite h****** the framing at the front door and the living room where things were stored as they worked. Painting was necessary where I had not expected it. They did not keep me informed as to the arrival of the reordered pieces. That information came from the installer (not the son) several days before Virginia Maid contacted me to schedule the reinstallations. Thank goodness for him at least!

Virginia Maid is always busy ( a good thing) and it took a while for them to get started. However, I was very impressed with the value, quality and service. We did some of the work ourselves, but when all was said and done we have a have a $40K kitchen which cost less than half.

My home was built in the early 1980's and the stairwell was only supported by beams on one side and as a result the side of the house without support kind of listed (not visible looking at the home, but you could tell by the floor). The contractors, GF Remodeling, did a lot of work underneath the house so the stairwell would be properly supported and the floor could be as level as possible. There was also a lot of electrical and plumbing issues to replace/correct/move or install. Once all that was done the hardwood floor was installed (tile in the foyer and bathroom), then the cabinets were installed, granite countertops (courtesy of BBG Granite) in the kitchen and bathroom. Lisa Radway, our VA Maid contact,, was superb. She has an eye for detail and keeps on top of everything. She stays in contact with you and comes out to inspect at each phase of the project. If there is something wrong or not perfect, she will pick up on it, but she does her homework before the job has begun so you shouldn't have anything go wrong! Our contractors were great also. David Schmitt did most of the work and he was very meticulous and precise and would accept nothing but perfection (or as close to it as you could get). There are always some hiccups along the way but nothing that couldn't be worked out amicably. My kitchen is almost twice the size it use to be. I have beautiful cabinetry (installed by Ryan), beautiful granite countertops (courtesy of BBG Granite) and a gorgeous hardwood floor. We are completely satisfied with the work performed by Virginia Maid Kitchens, GF Remodeling and BBG Granite and would recommend them for your next project!

We really wish we had not used VMK. The process was a nightmare! Staff did not take proper measurements so the back splash did not fit exactly. Workers left it as-is and we had to contact the company to ask them to fix it. Flooring measurements were also off due to staff measurements, causing them to be short on product and further delaying the job (we were blamed for the staff's poor measuring job!). This job should have taken no more than 2 days because it is a small space and fairly minimal scope of work. Instead it drug out over 2 1/2 weeks. Additionally, VMK does not have any licensed electricians, plumbers or carpenters on staff so we had to jump through additional hoops to find people capable of hooking up the sink and new dishwasher. The owner of VMK, Don Lignon, was exceptionally rude when we approached him with problems that arose during the course of the job. He took no responsibility for the poor work performed by his employees. He offered us a "$100 discount" for our troubles. We have never been treated with such a lack of customer service from a contractor. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

Our floor had to be replaced after frozen pipes burst in our laundry room. We met Andy one evening and he helped us pick out flooring. Once it came in, it was installed quickly and it looks great. So happy with it.

I provided the light fixtures, new appliances for the kitchen and kitchen/bath hardware. The final product is absolutely gorgeous.

The experience was very good. I had no problems. They did the job, and it was a good job, and it was on schedule.

My kitchen remodeling went very well. My designer was very cognizant to what I wanted. I started the process in February, scouting around to see who I would hire to do the project . VA Maid Kitchen's showroom was very well decorated and gave me ideas to what I wanted to do. My designer; Lisa, visited my home and listen to my list of options that I wanted to do. I wanted to rearrange the whole kitchen, completely. She developed my blueprints and I brought my husband see the design and the quality of their products. She teams with a contract remodeling team and he came to the house with her to see what was needed. Both members were very professional and fully understood my wishes. Lisa went with me to Ferguson's to view the appliances that I wanted. The project was 6 weeks long,a two weeks wait for the completion of the countertops. The countertop company was backlog for two weeks and I was told this when they came to measure. The result was wonderful. Of course, all other work stopped during the waiting period, but restarted immediately after the counters were in place. At the end of the process, my husband did an inspection of all of the work and found some minor discrepancies. I spoke to Lisa and the contractor and those discrepancies were resolved. I am very happy with the results. My kitchen is absolutely beautiful. I have received many compliments from my friends and one of my husband's co-workers decided to let a contract with Virginia Maid Kitchens and with G F Remodeling after he saw what we were doing. They are having their work done now. Thank you very much Lisa and Steve!!!! You made a huge remodeling experience as less stressful as possible!

The salesman was excellent and responsive up to the time we finished paying then disappeared leaving finishing details undone. The work done tailoring and designing what we wanted was first rate. The quality of the cabinets and the instillation (as far as it was done) was excellent. Once instillation started, one man did it and he was there on some days and then pulled to work elsewhere on other days stretching the instillation out over several weeks. There were problems with some of the built-ins fitting and most of the necessary adaptions were done well. A few details were forgotten or missed and that is where the trouble occurred. We paid the bill when it arrived and since then, although being able to speaking to the salesman once (several calls to the office and messages left on his cell were unanswered) we have had promises but no one has showed up to finish the job. That has been 3 weeks.

I liked the fact that Virginia Maid Kitchens will draw out the plan for the remodel and you do not have to use them. So, regardless, it's a free service, even if you just wanted to see their ideas, they can draw that out for you.

They have outstanding installers. However, we were not too pleased with the designer. He showed a lack of responsiveness and mis-measured some of the cabinets. So, some of them needed to remade, which took more time. The quality of the cabinets and the installation was amazing though, and we were very pleased with that part of it.

I was very pleased with the results-great job-was exactly what I wanted. They were great to work with. Everyone from the carpenters, plumbers, electricians,my contractor- were the best. They were always prompt, professional and cleaned up at the end of the day. They ran on schedule and were always willing to work with me. I recommend them all the time and will continue to do so.

The design was by Ryan (I do not believe he is still employed there). He maximized every inch of cabinet space and made a change to the island that gave me perfect storage for my crystal glasses. When the crew came, they took down the old cabinets in just a few hours with zero mess and dust! They took a few days to put the new cabinets in -- and they are solid and level! All the trim detail is exactly as I wanted. The new floor took another few days - actually 2 days longer than planned. The toilet in the powder room was not set right adn they came back - at no cost to me - a few months later and repaired it with many apologies for not getting it right the first time. I was glad I didn't have to argue with them because they acknowledged they missed the mark - how many contractors do that? None that I know of. They are a bit pricey but they are worth every penny because they have excellent attention to detail. My cabinets are level, crafted well, and feel very solid in place. And they are beautiful 5 years later! I would definitely hire VA Maid again if I were to move to another home and need to renovate. I wish I could afford to have them redo my bathrooms, but that is another project for another day.....

Very well, good experience. They were punctual, professional, and answered all questions that I had as they performed the installation.

Virginia Maid Kitchens were very professional. They did a good job but we just went with a different company. I thought the were really good.

It was horrible. The cabinet showed up extremely damaged the first time. After I sent all the cabinets back, the owner sent back the cabinets that he thought were okay. This was after my kitchen was destroyed by my dishwasher flooding it out and my family had already been two months without a kitchen. They took six weeks to get the cabinets whereas they said I would be a three-week deal. When I reordered them, it only took a week, but they still sent back some of the cabinets that I rejected the first time because he felt that they were okay. I was very dissatisfied with every aspect of the customer service with the exception of the installers. They were good guys and they did the best they could with what they had. We weren't pleased with the quality of the second batch of cabinets, but we accepted them because they offered to refund half of our money back and the installers did their best to repair any of the issues here on site and made them acceptable. I would not recommend them to anybody. I told them I would make sure that the word got out about how I felt about them and the owner said do whatever you have to do.

They were fantastic to deal with. I didn't get their product for my kitchen. My kitchen is still my old kitchen. I think their price was fair. I have only good things to say about how business like and personable. He met me on they were, but when I had somebody else check on the product, parts of it weren't as sturdy. He met me on a Saturday. The cabinets looked good. They didn't look cheap and I wouldn't call them cheap, they just weren't as sturdily built as some of the others. They may be sturdy enough but not as heavy as another company I had looked at. I am probably going to go with somebody else. They've got everything at their shop from flooring to back splash. The people who are there really seem to know their product and the products are built out of environmentally friendly materials.

They were excellent. They pay minute attention to detail of the measuring. I liked their customer service and the work crew that came out. The quality of workmanship was very good. They cleaned up after themselves. We got a lot for our money and that's why we went with them.

The guy met me on a Saturday. He spent hours with me trying to help me decide on what was best for me. He went into great detail in the difference, grades, and materials in the cabinets. He even explained why certain woods and materials were better than other. He acted like he had unending patience and time. I find that very important as I do not like to be rushed on a decision. They have cabinets for every budget. They were wonderful people.

We have just had continuous problem with it and we had to finally get whole new countertops in because what they did was so bad. The countertops were supposed to last 20 years, but they started degenerating almost immediately. When we started having the new countertops in, we looked at how cheap the counter was and their work was exposed more and we just wanted to get that into place.

They did a really nice job on everything. I am not sure what the countertops are made of, but they aren't marble or anything like that. They are still very nice. They were able to finish on the agreed up time. I am really pleased with the way my kitchen turned out.

This is an entire group of craftsman who are just terrific in building cabinets. We gave them a general idea of what our hopes were and they drew up the plans accordingly. The process was kept in perspective as far as timing was concerned and in the end we couldn't have been more pleased with the new look of our cabinets. I thought that they did fabulous work and I couldn't say enough about them as a whole.

I had no complaints with their work afterwards and the crew made sure all of my questions were answered before they started to work. They were very professional the whole time they were here. They left the kitchen sparkling clean when they were finished.

Everything turned out well and they made beautiful cabinets and did a wonderful job of installing them. They did a very good job filling in the dead spots of the cabinets. They completely redesigned the kitchen layout. The only problem was that they were going to put half the shelves on the floor unit, when I noticed they said it would cost extra for full shelves. They had never told us before that, so I had to pay extra.
