A tech came out in timely fashion, confirmed the squirrel infestation, and had "the office" gave me an estimate. I agreed to the service. He came back and baited and said the office would call and schedule the actual service. 10 days later I finally heard from "the office" saying he'd had the flu and that he'd "researched" and found he couldn't do the work. Squirrels had to be trapped and released, not killed. AFTER poisoning them. I used Critter Control and was very happy with their service. United is NOT the company to use for squirrels!! (I paid them for the bait, but nothing else. I still got a bill, which I ignored!)

It's going well, I have been with them since 1991, both in Hampton and Poquoson. They come on time, they do their job with minimal intrusion, and do exactly what they say they will do.

Had to reschedule the appointment. I was promised a call back. The technician never returned my calls for the reschedule. Called office for another appointment. Office calls day of the appointment for reschedule again! Very disappointing.

I though the attic cleanup consisted of feces removal which is the correct procedure before blowing insulation I was coerced into buying services not included in the Angie's list service description so my price went from 49.to 1800

Great. Came on time, went right to work and completed the job in an efficient and timely manner.

He arrived over an hour latter than the appointment time. Only checked the crawlspace and not even the attic.

They never followed up

The offer was advertised as if they were going to check my walls for entry. They didn't, they only pointed out, as we stood on the lawn, to some areas on my roof where an animal could possibly enter. The only space they checked was my attic where they said they put poison. I felt as if the first purpose of this offer was the sale of a year pest control ($340) plus possible sign up for Disinfect/Sanitize, etc. attic for $475. In addition if I let them repair questionable roof entry points the charge would add $600. I would rather ask a roofer to check and repair the roof. They put small traps, I did see a roof rat stuck in a gutter later, do not know if he was attracted by the poison in the trap. He ran to the corner of patio and disappeared in wall. That same week I ran into the man from Zoopro who had tried to help me last year for same problem. He checked traps, found them too small, and checked where rat disappeared, felt base of wall had been chewed out, came back and sprayed foam to close openings. Haven't seen or heard rat since, could be dead in wall.

No issues with service call

Keith Lane and his employees are always prompt, courteous, and professional and they do excellent work, giving complete explanations as to how the control sprays work and, in this case, the difference between carpenter ants and the ants I was having a problem with, which I needed to have resolved prior to painting the exterior. The office staff is also exceptional and I was so pleased to have my pest problems attended to so quickly. Their service is exemplary and complete. Doing the job well seems to be a standard of United Pest Control. There was not even an extra charge for the separate treatment for the ants. I have been a customer for 10 years, initially with termite treatment and vapor barrier and ever since with annual inspections for termites, mold and fungus and quarterly pest control and have been 100% satisfied with their work. Have lived in this house 34 years and had several companies prior to United Pest Control but there were always problems--going out of business, failure to complete work satisfactorily, late or skipped annual inspections, etc. So grateful for Mr. Lane and his people at United Pest Control.

It was absolutely horrible. I'm in the middle of a mess right now that is slightly related to that. I would not recommend that anyone go anywhere near those people. And they want my money. My kitchen is covered in flies. For starters, if I had the ad in front of me I would read it but just what was being sold there was they would come out to the house and they would do a thorough inspection, find out where the pests were coming in. In this case it's Norway rats. They did not do that. All he did was listen to what I had to say and say oh yeah, you have a terrible infestation. The guy didn't even get down on his knees and look in the crawlspace or crawl under there. He probably couldn't get down on his knees considering he's got a prosthetic leg. It was decided he was going to fog under the house. In order to have his guys go under and take out the old vapor barrier and put in a new one he had to kill all the disease from the rats. So, that's what the fogging was for. It's an anti-viral, anti-this, anti-that that's going to kill all the disease that's under there. So, they did that. I think it was about a week later they came and took the vapor barrier out and put in the new one. I had to call them to come back because they didn't do a good job putting the new vapor barrier in. There was a big space that was left just dirt, there was no plastic over it. It's just been one thing after another. He gave me this long story about how this poison that they put under there they refer to as bait. It's poison. Little packets of poison. He told me I should stop using what I was using because it would prevent the rat from smelling bad when they died if they happened to die under the house. Well, I'm sorry but I don't think there's anything around that's going to keep a carcass from smelling bad as it rots. But, I thought, well, I don't know, I haven't done a lot of reading in that area, maybe they do have something. No, they don't. When they pulled the vapor barrier out they told me they pulled 15 carcasses out from under there. 15 of them. And one was this big. You know the fish story? How I caught one this big? That's kind of what this reminded me of. He had probably 8 inches in diameter was what he was showing me. I thought, good Lord, that thing could have eaten me. As I thought about it, at first I was like, Oh my Lord, 15, but I never thought, wait a minute, if there were 15 carcasses under my house, how come I didn't smell them? I mean at the time that each one died? I'm sure he wasn't trying to make me believe they all died at the same time. I would have smelled them for starters and now the last one that died died in a wall so we couldn't get at it. They came back once and found one under the vapor barrier and then another time something died and I could smell it and one of the first things is that I smell it and then we start getting flies in the house. I think the flies that I have now are because of the one that died in the wall and they're all just coming and eating at the carcass and then they are coming in the house, which is not a real healthy thing in the kitchen, so I have to sanitize the kitchen again. This guy is talking about spraying pheromones that won't get rid of the rats but will deter the rats from coming in. The whole thing is just a snow job from the get go. We finally got to the point where we parted ways. My husband is thinking about what we are going to do because they did not do the job and did not even do the things that were on the Angie's List. If they did the job right, I would say they were still a little high but considering they didn't do the job right.

As of April 2016, there have been no evidence of rodents inside the house, nor inside the crawlspace. So right now, I am satisfied with their service.

It was a pretty embarrassing ordeal. My 16 year old and his friends were showing off with the soccer ball outside. SO I hear a kid screaming.... when I go to save his friend, I discovered a whole new miniaturized world. I called United Pest and learned that it was a common issue in our area. I was also told that if I had not had the heads up, my home could have been eaten alive. Termites! ewww. They love wood, my home is made of moistly wood. I have not really gone under the home to look but feel confident they are gone. The guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I will more than likely have another inspection to assure the issue is gone.

It went okay. There were two visits. They came out first to introduce themselves and then they said they'd call back a week later. I didn't hear from them, so I called back. So it was virtually three weeks before they came back to do the inspection and place bait in the crawlspace. My issue with them was that even before they did the inspection, they were upselling me on a service contract. So before they did any assessment, any analysis of my property, they were upselling and trying to get me into a contract. After they did the inspection, they gave me an estimate on some work that they thought needed to be done and it was the highest estimate I had from three different companies. There were differences, not only in their price but the recommendations among all three estimates. They were the highest. They also, I thought, provided some scare tactics, saying, "If you have an infestation then it's going to be dangerous to your health." There may be some truth to that. But I think it was overstated. So they wanted to do a clean out. They wanted to clean the vents, disinfect the vents and put something down to encapsulate them. I did some research on it and there is controversy over what they recommended. They also said that I didn't need to have my vapor barrier replaced. Two other vendors thought it would be a good idea to have the vapor barrier replaced. They said I did need to have some of my insulation replaced. One other vendor said I did as well. So I had conflicting information from three different vendors but their price was the highest. I thought they were the most pushy, in terms of upselling and wanted to get me under a contract. Before I had them come out, I called their head quarters - and they put me through to the owner - to ask what was included with the purchase. He also was pushing an annual contract and routine pest control. So, right from the beginning, my guard was up a bit. I just didn't have a high level of trust in what they were saying.

They did not resolve my issue. However, the owner called, and sent his son out, to help try to resolve the issue.

It was fine. They should do better communication. They should have let us know when they were doing what they were actually supposed to do. I'll try to recommend them.

-On Thursday (2/12) I contacted United and informed them I needed the termite-free report. I was informed that I would be provided the report Friday morning (2/13) and that it would be sent via e-mail. -I did NOT receive the report on Friday morning (2/13) as promised. -From Friday afternoon (2/13) through Wednesday (2/18), I made several attempts to contact United. I could not get anyone to answer the phone and had to leave messages each time stating my need for the letter for the purposes of refinancing our home. (As of this posting on 2/19, I have not received a call back from the company). I tried both numbers listed on United's website, both of which went to the same recording. Also on 2/18, I accessed United's website and obtained an e-mail address, then sent an e-mail to an individual listed, who I believe is the owner, identifying my problem contacting United and informing him of my need for the letter. With my closing deadline approaching and still nothing back from United, I had to call the lender and inform him that United was not responding to me. I asked the lender if he had a company that could come out to do the inspection and provide the letter on this short notice. Later that afternoon, I was contacted by a company recommended by the lender who scheduled an appointment for the very next day. -On Thursday (2/19), the "other" company came out to my home, performed the inspection, and provided the letter to my lender. Of course, this came at a cost that I shouldn't have had to incur, as United should have provided it. Meanwhile, shortly after the "other" company completed the inspection, I received an e-mail reply from United Pest Control. The e-mail contained the "termite-free" letter I had been trying to obtain from them for the previous week, which was of no value since I had already paid another company to provide the letter. There was also a comment in their e-mail reply about "...no one being in the office to respond to my calls...", which is why I had not heard back from them. I found this to be extremely odd that a United Pest Control worker would need to be in the office to access the multiple messages I had left. It also did not account for the fact that I was informed on 2/12 that I would be provided the letter on 2/13.
