Great. The first day was removal of the old materials and cleanup. The second day they installed the new liner, a large dehumidifier, and sealed access (from rodents). The third day an electrician came to do what we needed for the power and to install a controller on the wall. The gentlemen who did the work were punctual and polite and left no mess. Note that there is no category for "crawl space work" so I selected what seems to be the closest option.
Description of Work: The old crawl space had insulation that was falling; fans that needed to be removed, and access needs to be sealed.

Their technician, Emily just completed another termite inspection for us this morning. (She was also our technician last year). Her customer service and professionalism are exceptional. I called her a few days ago to schedule an appointment & she returned my call promptly; she was on time for the appointment; and, most importantly, she was once again remarkably thorough in her inspection. Emily is absolutely an asset to her company.

I called and cancelled the contract after the first year, but they did not cancel it. After several months, I started getting bills and calls from them charging me for an inspection that I did not ask for and which was never performed. I reiterated to the woman on the phone with me how I did not want to renew the contract, but she refused to cancel it. She was also very combatative and rude on the phone. After going back and forth with them a couple of times they actually sued me over the bill for the inspection that had never been performed. Long story short, the judge agreed that they did not fulfill their side of the contract and so ruled in my favor, thankfully. I want to say that it is never good business practice to sue your customer, and if a customer tells you that they do not want to renew a contract then it's generally a good idea to cancel the service. I will note that on the two days I had to spend in court with them, they had several other cases (more than 10) where they were suing clients. It became very apparent that the National Exterminating "MO" was to take people to court left and right. This just struck a bad cord with me. They were running around trying to play lawyer instead of devoting their time being good ethical businessmen. Stay away from this company!

First, the company provides pest control services and sells termite damage contracts. What they don't tell you is that your chemical barrier fails after 5=7 years leaving you exposed to the critters. They do conduct a visual annual inspection if you are under contract but that means the termites have a free year to infest your home. They have recently been offering to retreat the homes for an additional 1.000 dollars. Second, I signed up for the reapplication. Tech arrived on time, called ahead of arrival, provided a fast efficient service. CAUTION: If you have pets DO NOT use this company, unless you want to chase them down the street when the technician lets them out.

They came out in 2015 and performed the inspection and I gladly paid them. The next year, they sent me a letter in the mail asking me if I wanted to renew the contract. The letter contained a box to check and a signature block to sign and return if I did indeed want to renew. However, I did not want to renew and ignored the letter, preferring to let the contract expire. I forgot about the whole thing until months later they began calling me and asking payment for the renewed contract. Finally, after calling them back one day I spoke to a lady who insisted that I owed them $98 for a service that I never requested. After that, they kept calling and harassing me about this $98 and threatened to sue me over it! The idea of automatic renewals is an unethical business practice and ought to be illegal in my view and I would never trust this company to do anything for me again. Do not do business with this company! They are not trustworthy.

Dear Angie, This is to complain about National Termite Company. I have been with this company since June 2001 and it was good service until 2013, when in the preparation to do repairs to my garage door, I found evidence of termite damage. I called National Termite to come out and do an inspection. They said I had to remove some vinyl siding to do an inspection; I called them back when I had some siding removed. The inspector determined that there was termite damage, but that he would have to go back to the office and talk with his boss, several days later they got back to me and told me that their report showed that I had wood in contact with the ground, and therefore they would not do any repairs. I did not have any wood that touched the ground, and I argued that the termites had climbed up the brick wall and the drywall to get inside the house. They said their treatment was a barrier, and I told them that their barrier didn?t seem to working, and that therefore they should pay for repairs. They said no. Not wanting to haggle with them right now, I decided to have the repairs done now. The company I hired gave me a price to replace the vinyl siding, (I decided to replace the vinyl siding vs. putting the old siding back on) and the tentative price to do repairs for termite damage. Upon removing the vinyl siding and gain a better look at the damage done by termites, it was ultimately decided that the repairs would take eight sheets of plywood and 199 foot of two by fours. Their cost to me was 3,223 dollars, which is what I asked to be reimbursed. I sent National some pictures and told them there was no active termites when repairs were done. They said that was good and it showed that their product stop the termites, I said then why do I have all this damage. REBUTTAL TO COMPANY RESPONSE: 1. Their claim of a dead tree stump, there was never a dead tree in my yard, in their reports they never stated anything about a dead tree. 2. The moisture damage they keep referring to is called dry rot, but what I have read termites don?t like dry rotted wood. 3. The active termites that were found were tunnels of mud up a brick wall, and a sheetrock wall (not wood). This tells me that termites will try to get into your house even if it is not with wood touching the ground. 4. October 08 this company gave me a termite and moisture letter, which stated no visible evidence of wood destroying fungus, was observed, and that no visible evidence of wood destroying insects was observed. 5. The door jams were never in contact with the cement slab, they were at least 1 inch above the concrete. 6. All of my windows were replaced in March of 20O8 by Mr. Rogers windows Inc. 7. They say the damage could have been there since 2001, but the majority of the wood that was damaged look like it was new wood, not wood that had been aged for 12 years with a light brown color of aged wood. 8. They said I needed to do proper maintenance to maximize efficiency of the warranty, I say that with the known termite infestation of the Tidewater area, that I should have received more than just granules sprinkled around the house and spot injections over a period of 12 years. 9. I did not threaten a bad review, I said I would post a bad review on Angie?s 10. If they cannot reimburse me for repairs, then a refund of 12 years of payments 90.00 x 12 yr.?s =$1080 and initial treatment cost $675 = $1755, would be acceptable.
Description of Work: Provided initial termite treatment, and 12 years of yearly inspections. Responded to sightings of termite activity and spot treated.

Response from National Exterminating Co Inc
It is National Exterminating's mission to always provide our customers with the best service possible at their home or investment property. In July of 2001, National Exterminating performed an inspection of [member name removed] property. Active termites were found at the corner of the garage. At that time [member name removed] entered into a contract to treat active termites and to inspect, warranty and treat as needed each year after for an annual fee. The history of this property is quiet complex: Dec 2001, National treated termites on a fence post. Dec 2002, National treated termites on a fence post. July 2006, National treated termites at front porch - cited dead tree stump as conducive conditions and causing recurring termite infestations. Aug 2008, National noted old termite damage at garage door jambs as well as moisture damage at garage door jambs. July 2009, National noted moisture damage at garage door jambs. Aug 2010, National noted moisture damage at garage door jambs. Aug 2011, National noted moisture damage at garage door jambs. Feb 2012, National was called out and treated active termites in garage. Aug 2012, National noted moisture damage at garage door jambs. Sept 13 2013, National inspected and found active termites in garage door jambs and noted moisture damage at garage door jambs. Sept 16 2013, National sent out a Senior Inspector to qualify damages for possible repair. Inspector findings: wood to ground contact where door jams are in direct contact to ground and termites can infest behind casing going unnoticed and hidden from detection. Door jambs in direct contact with the cement slab are still considered wood to ground, due to necessary expansion joints being directly below. Door jambs had visible moisture damage and had moisture readings of 12%. The readings would have been higher, but the wood was so moisture damaged it could not hold any more moisture. Sheathing was discolored from water intrusion and moisture reading of wood above garage overhead doors was in the 18-20% range. Normal moisture content for wood in these conditions would be in the 8-10% range. Sept 26 2013, National drilled and treated for termites at the rear wall in garage and front porch. National denied the damage claim on Sept 16, due to the high moisture readings and prior moisture damage. Our company did the treatments as required for activity found at no charge. We requested a materials list prior to [member name removed] having repairs made in an effort to help out in some way for a 10+ year customer. What we received was a certified letter dated Jan 20, 2015 with a bill for $3223. [member name removed] failed to understand that in 2001, they had active termites that were treated and very likely the damages had already occurred but were hidden from view until the siding was removed. National reported every year that the door jambs had moisture damage, that the stump in the yard was causing conducive conditions or conditions favorable for termite activity; [member name removed] was present and signed for each inspection performed by National. The presents of swarming termites occurs every year it is a natural phenomenon. These termites look for wet and damaged wood, or ground where they can start a new colony, we believe this is the reasoning for continued re-infestations every 3 to 5 years. Had [member name removed] take action to repair the leaky garage window and moisture damaged door jambs sooner rather than later, they would likely have seen the termite damage that had been there all along, since 2001. There were no active termites in the wall when the siding was removed, so when and at what point did this damage take place? Proper maintenance is required by homeowners to maximize efficacy of the warranty, especially a termite warranty. National offered a good faith settlement of $850 towards the repairs [member name removed] had already incurred, even though we feel the damages did not occur on our "watch". The customer denied our settlement offer at that time and counter with a request for $1500 or they would post a bad review of National Exterminating on the Angie's list website. National Exterminating stands firm in our resolve to provide excellent customer service but will not be held hostage to a threat of a bad review.

The past 3.5 years National Exterminating Co has been spot treating my home for termites. When my home had termites for the 3rd consecutive year, I requested full term but was denied. My homeowners associations has the contract with National therefore approval must be given by the association. After finally getting approval for full treatment in March of 2014, I notice and drastic increase in my water consumption , so I called a plumber and was informed there is a leak in the line probably due to termite drilling. Now I am faced footing the bill until I can prove the leak is a result of National's drilling. I would not recommendation National Exterminating under any circumstance. Their solution to resolving termite infestation is to sport treat even when full treatment is warranted. In addition, when problems arise, they are very unwilling to resolve the matter easily.

I am upset that I wasted my time wasting for the company.
Description of Work: I had them come to my house & treat for bed bugs. They did a great job. I paid for the service over about a year. On about the 10th month (February), there was a mailing mistake that the company took full responsibility for. In the midst of that, I scheduled an estimate for pest control. A technician, Phillip Burke came out to the house & told a tenant at the property that he wouldn't look at the house because I was behind on my payments. When I was negotiating the price of the service, I asked if I could get a discount if we document this properly and show the results of the final product. Phillip ended up saying ok, when in reality, he was not authorized to give a discount. I called and spoke to the owner, Ralph Moore and he apologized and said don't worry about it; you don't owe anything. After this incident, in march, I asked for an inspection. A technician, Butch came out & inspected the home & said I didn't qualify for bed bug insurance, but I did qualify for pest control insurance. He said he would have someone call me to set me up with the pest control policy. I called April/May to speak with Ralph & he put me on hold & never came back to the phone. In June, I left a message and never received a call back. Today, I called to speak with someone in sales & she said I had an outstanding balance & it was wrote off. I called to speak with Ralph & once he found out my name & who I was, he hung up.

We were very pleased with the results. Its been almost a year and the moister levels in the basement are very good. There was an added bonus that we didn’t realize that we would get, it turns out that our heating bill was a lot lower because the basement vents were sealed which did not allow the cold air to get in.

I inherited this contract from the previous owner and decided to just maintain the account. When we first moved in two years ago, National sent a person out to do interior treatment along the baseboards and to lay spider traps. The service provider was very professional and helpful, as we had a six month old at the time. The idea was that someone would be back three months later to check the traps and provide additional service based on those findings. Two years later, no one has ever come back to manage that portion of the service. Additionally, I requested information concerning outdoor treatment for rodents, but there was never any follow up on that. Earlier this year, I received notification from National that it was time to renew my contract. I chose to allow that service to lapse with the intention of using another service. I didn't find anything on the notification indicating that a failure to respond constituted consent to renew the contract, although it is possible that I missed that- I don't believe that is the case, but I can't say for certain that it isn't the case. The next contact I had from National was an invoice for service provided. I was never notified that the service had been renewed, nor was I informed that an exterminator was going to be or already had been by our house to do their work. To their credit, National promptly provided a signed and dated work order when I requested it prior to paying. I don't have major complaints about National, short of the lack of communication from their end. I feel as though they could improve their customer support system and communication with customers.

Great. The tech, Corey, was outstanding, friendly, and very thorough. He took the extra time to even remove some debris and write up some suggested focus areas/crawlspace improvements for the next inspection. He explained some great tips and hopefully he will come out for the next one. The admin office was also very friendly and prompt. We had a little mixup with the first technician, but Corey and Vicky cleared it all up. Big company, but good folks.

Absolutely top-notch. Christian was thorough, explained what he was doing, and ensured that I was satisfied with the approach. He was friendly and very personable. There was no additional charge as we are under an annual contract with National.
Description of Work: I had swarming insects invade my sunroom over a 20 hour period - didn't know if they were termites or ants; little wings were everywhere. Called our local National contractor, with whom we've had an annual contract for over 20 years, and they were swamped but able to get to us within 3 business days. Christian did a thorough inspection, although we had already killed the insects with a non-toxic (to people) plant-based spray and scrubbed the area, and he found no more insects or trails. He injected the ground around the perimeter of the raised sunroom just to add a little "insurance".

The salesman was very professional and helpful. The work crew showed up promptly and were very polite and conscientious. They were working under the house for a whole week. They worked very h****** a tricky part under the front door to make sure everything stayed aligned. Unfortunately, the devil is in the details. The salesman came back to check the work before the city inspector came out. Floor joists are supposed to have a minimum of 1.5" overhang on each end. Many of the joists obviously had less than 1.5". The salesguy was not happy - this was a rookie mistake and should have been caught by the workmen. They came back and installed a lip board around the foundation. Then the inspector came out. There were some places on the girder he was not happy with and a place around a floor vent where the workmen had gotten a little too creative. The workmen came back and fixed things up. The inspector came back out. Still not quite right. One more round. Finally the inspector was happy. During the whole process, the salesman was very polite and professional. The workmen seemed competent and to being trying hard, there was just this one area they couldn't get right - and the whole issue with the joists being too short.
Description of Work: We had extensive water and termite damage under the house from the previous owner. We had about 30 floor joists replaced. The entire center girder replaced. A whole side of the house's sill plate and backing board replaced. They also installed a dehumidifier and treated the house for termites.
