I was very dissatisfied with their service.
Description of Work: They tried to install a shower. There were a lot of holes. They actually ended up drilling into a closet and never repaired it. The shower and wall w never sealed properly. They screwed on the tub spigot and put the backsplash on top of that.

For a couple of years, they've come out for about five times to fix an issue. I've never had any problems with their clean up because it always looks the same when they leave it as they found it.
Description of Work: I had a water heater go out and at the same time DuVal Heating Air Conditioning and Plumbing, Inc. came out to help with an AC issue.

Do not use Duval Heating and Air, they are completely unresponsive and impossible to get a hold of. I believe they are owned by Brian Duval. Duval Heating and Air was assigned through my home warranty company to diagnose and resolve and issue with my AC unit. The technician, Jim, came out to the house the next day and identified the problem. A new part was needed which they didn't have in store. Jim told me that it would take 3-5 business days to get the part in stock and he'd come back out to install it. After 5 business days, I called to check the status and was told they were waiting on the part to be delivered and didn't have a time estimate. 5 days later I called and got only voicemail even though I tried to call multiple times per day. I called my home warranty company and they called them twice over the next week and did speak to them but got no information. Finally on 8/26 I tried calling again and only got voicemail. I drove to their office and spoke to the receptionist who informed me that no one was in the office from Duval to discuss the matter. Luckily I was able to get my case routed to a more reputable company to resolve. Avoid using them, while the technicians may be okay, the front office is dreadful to work with.

First visit 5/22/13 - American Home Shield dispatches a Duval Tech for my "leaking" A/C unit into my emergency drip pan in the attic. Tech doesn't have the parts to repair and orders a new drip pan. Didn't even have the parts to replace the cracked PCV pipe fitting causing the leak. I had a 5 hour arrival window to wait for this 15 minute visit. Upon leaving, the drip was still happening. Second visit 5/29/13 - Only had a four hour wait window this time but the two folks replaced the drip pan and "glued" yes, glued the cracked PCV piece that was originally causing the leak. When I questioned this method of repair, I was told it would last forever. The techs also provided a "maintenance service" at an additional cost of $49.00 while they were out here to ensure my external unit was working fine and freon levels were correct. Two days later, I notice I can't get the house inside temperature below 80 degrees. Third visit 6/6/13 - Provided a 6 hour window and the glued piece didn't hold up so the leak is back. This tech replaced the piping from the unit to the P-Trap (about 8"). I mentioned my inside temperature issue so he re-checked the freon levels to find I was 2 pounds of freon low. Two days later, I discover water dripping through my ceiling into my hallway. Water dripping into the emergency drain pan but somehow getting into my attack floor. Fourth Visit 6/9/13 - Another 5 hour window but it's a Sunday so I'm not missing any work hours. Tech finds the previously replaced 8" section of piping replaced on 6/6/13 to be angled uphill. Water doesn't flow uphill. He also discovered the drip pan drain line connection to be loose which is why water was dripping into my attic floor. While the cover is off the main unit we both notice one inlet vent isn't even attached so I'm pulling in 100 degree unfiltered air from my attic to cool the house. The tech orders a new drain pan assembly (inside the A/C unit). This is back ordered and takes forever to arrive as depicted by the next visit date. Fifth Visit 7/24/13 with another 5 hour wait window. (Sorry folks but if I were the owner of this company by the fifth visit I would be camping on their doorstep to make it as convenient as possible for the customer.) Anyway, the Drain Pan is installed and to this day all seems to be running well. Although I only paid the $75.00 American Home Shield warranty fee once, I'm quite certain the company found a way to be paid on each visit. Perhaps this would explain why customer satisfaction isn't a priority with this company. I rated them an "F" on price as it did cost me 20 hours of lost work due to their "wait" window.
Description of Work: After 5 different visits, they finally fixed my leaking A/C system.

I think they are the crookedest outfit out there. I had a covered garbage disposal than went out and I could tell it was broken because there was a metal piece that I could move around in there, and I looked at it with a flashlight and I mean it was totally broken off I could get pliers on them so my contractor sent out DuVal and I paid a $75 service call then they wanted me to pay the cost of the garbage disposal. I checked and you can get it for $74 at Home Depo. and it comes with a flange and they wanted to charge me $189 to put the flange in and then they said "For just a few more dollars you could get out service for a year where we'll come out and check stuff for me." I wrote the cheque out and I went and checked them out on Angie's List because when I looked at the paper work tat came with the garbage disposal and I saw that the flange came with it and they were trying to charge me $189 for it I found out that it would have been cheaper for me just to call my own plumber. I stopped payment on the cheque and I told the warranty company that I don't think I should be charged $189 to put in a part that comes with the garbage disposal after that they only charged me $75 for the service. He was there for less than 45 minutes and they wanted to charge me $189 to put that thing in that was absolutely insane.

Not the professionalism expected and took six days to complete. My previous heater was broken and was releasing CO into my home so this was an emergency work order. It got down to 17 degrees so it was extremely cold. Taking several days to even file a work order by the contractor was unacceptable. He had given me a carbon copy of his findings but the office worker said she had not received one for days when I called. Called AHS for AC and DuVal again was the contractor. He got the AC working but damaged the brand new programmable thermostat that had just been installed. His replacement was digital but not programmable like the expensive one I previously had.
Description of Work: Contractor showed up in unmarked van with cardboard taped to a large window. Took days for him to report findings so a work order could be done. Was without heat for six days before they showed up. Installed a new natural gas system. When they left and I checked the system, it sounds like a wind tunnel starting up and the tape connecting duct work has huge gaps where it is not adherring. There is also a 4" hole in the duct work on the corner. Within a week, all the silver backed tape used to connect the old and new ductwork was not adherred together with huge gaps and holes. This company is used by AHS but would never recommend them.

I have a home warranty contract with American Home Shield and reported a leak to them that was on the inside of the wall between the bathroom and family room. Prior to us purchasing our home there must have been a leak because there was a service door in the family room that I opened and saw water leaking out of the pipe. I called AHS and they put in a emergency work order and assigned Duval Heating Air Conditioning and Plumbing to fix. I was told they would call in the morning and arrange for the repair and was told by the lady that called the next morning a technician would be to my house sometime between 12pm and 5pm. At 2:30 pm I received a call from the plumber that he would be at my house in 30 min. At 4pm he showed up asked where the problem was and I walked him back to the family room and showed him the access panel and where the leak was. He then looked at it for 10 min then said he couldn't do any work because the stud was in the way. Mind you I stuck my entire head in the service panel with my arm holding a flashlight so I could see what he was talking about. I saw the stud he was referring to and there was 5-6 inches on either side of the stud for work space and the pipe was in plain sight. After about 10-15min of going round and round with him he said that he didn't bring the right parts. I asked how could he show up to fix an emergency plumbing problem and not have the right parts and told him where the nearest hardware store was and to go get the parts. After more discussion "arguing with him vainly" I showed him another area in the house that had a similar leak 2 years ago and the tech had absolutely no problem with fixing it. The tech then looked at me and said "well that was him this is me and I cant fix it". After the tech started to walk to the door and out it he was saying the whole time "its not possible without moving the stud I cannot do it without moving the stud". When he turned to speak with me when he got on the porch I proceeded to show him what the door looked like closed and did it with a rather satisfying bang. A few moments later as my wife and I were on different phones calling for emergency plumbers we received a call from AHS that they had dispatched another company Drain Masters to take a look at the leak and the tech would be to our home within 15 min. Almost exactly 15 min later a tech shows up walks into the family room looks in the service access and says he will have it fixed shortly, which it took him 20 min to do without have to cut or remove the stud in the wall. Moral of the story...DO NOT USE DUVAL HEATING AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing. We had an emergency call in for a leak and technician said there was nothing he could do then 10 min later after a bout of arguing he said he didn't bring the right parts

Serviceman came on time to check out our leaking water heater. After a diagnosis to replace the water heater, I inquired about a tankless water heater and replacing our 20 year old A/C unit and furnace. I ended up talking to Brian Duval who qave me a quote for a high quality Rheem tankless water heater, 15 seer electric A/C unit and gas furnace. Rheem has the second best repair history(least amount of repairs) of A/C and furnace units according to the last 15+ years of Consumer Reports magazine's reports. I was very pleased with the quote which was taking advantage of a big Rheem or Duval sale. I got another quote later that day from a reputable company but the price was $3200 higher with a less efficient water heater and furnace. This company warned us about Duval's poor reviews. I researched this and was a little concerned that the cheapest might not be the best route. When Brian called first thing the next morning I told him I was concerned about the reviews about his company. He explained that this mostly comes from Home warranty issues and promised me that he would do what he said he would do in the proposal. I found him to be professional and didn't feel like I was being fed any BS. They came Friday morning to install the new equipment. I had told Brian that I needed to prioritize the installation of the tankless water heater. I was out of town that day and found out from my wife that they weren't planning on installing the water heater that day. I called Duval and the decision was made to install a temporary water heater that afternoon/evening and replace it Monday morning with the new tankless system. I appreciated their efforts to fix this lack of communication. After arriving on time Monday they realized that the Rheem tankless unit didn't come with an important part. The Rheem unit was replaced with a top of the line Rinnai unit which is a top rated product. We got what we were promised and more. I was very pleased with the technicians Wayne and Max. They were very knowledgeable, courteous and professional. We've had a home warranty with AHS for about 7 years now and have had a few poor experiences but not with Duval. We are very pleased customers!

From initial contact regarding an estimate to completion, the Project Manager was professional, courteous and well informed. He came to our house each day to see how work was progressing and answered any questions we had. The employees who removed our old system and installed the new one were clean, polite, courteous and up-beat. Our project was completed in three days.

I used my 2-10 home warranty company. My fee out of pocket was $75.00 due to my contract, so I am unable to comment on the company's price. He was on time and professional. He advised me that whoever service my unit prior had put too much freon in the unit and that wasn't good. He corrected that problem and advised me to keep the temp at about 74 degrees. I haven't had an issue since. Great service.

My AC stopped working in May. My 2-10 Home warranty company sent DuVall to repair it. They said they fixed the unit but it started to give me the same problems about 3 weeks later. I called my home warranty company again and DuVall came out a second time. The second technician was different from the first and couldn't understand why the first technician hadn't repaired the unit. A cap was replaced the first time, but obviously there was more wrong. The second technician did not want to make any repairs to the AC unit and contacted the first technician to come back out the next day. Keep in mind, we had over 90 degree heat throughout the time the AC was broken and supposedly getting repaired. The second technician came out and had to add freeon and recharge the unit because the unit was out. DuVall then tried to charge me for a second technician fee. If the unit needed freeon then why wasn't this assessed and I notified on the first visit. As a result, I complained to my home warranty company and they resolved the issue. I've told my warranty company that I will not use DuVall again if AC or heating services are needed. I would not recommend them to anyone. The service and communication were not very professional.

They have the worse customer service attitude I have come across lately. DON'T use them for services.
Description of Work: As an American Home Shield customer, I have the right to have a contractor come and check out any system covered by my policy. This time I needed a plumber for a leak that is coming from under my house. Duval called me the next day after I made my request and said a plumber would be by the house in 2 days between 8 and 4.....he showed at 1230 with a list of other customers to see (it seemed like I was an after thought or more like, in and out attitude). No offense to starting technicians, but when you can't figure out where the water is coming from and the homeowner tells you, don't argue and say there is nothing you can do. He made the problem worse by digging deeper under the house (now my front flower bed is a mudd pit). I called AHS and asked for a re-serivce because they did not fix the problem and it wasn't what he said it was. Duval calls me and leaves a voice mail, sorry I was in the bathroom. I spent the next hour trying to call them back only to get the voicemail. THEY STILL have NOT returned my call.

Had home warranty with 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty. On or about the evening of 21 May 2011 discovered that my water heater was leaking in the area of the top element. Called warranty company and was informed that local company would call me about service. On 22 May received call from DuVal company the plumbing division. Was informed that no one could respond until the morning of 23 May. The morning of 23 May representative of DuVal arrived at my home. This person did not appear to have any tools. He inspected the water heater and confirmed the leak was in the area of welded adapter for the mounting of the top heater element. He stated the water heater needed to be replace and he needed the $50.00 warranty deductible at that time. I presented him a check for that amount. At this point he informed me, that the present water heater was not installed properly and additional work would be required to replace the unit. He stated that a new pressure relief overflow would be required and the amount for this would be $75.00. Then he informed me that the top copper pipes would have to be shortened by 4 inches for allow room for the dielectric nipples that are provided with new water heater. The price of this operation would be $175.00. Now additional moneys was up to $250.00. I stated to the representative, the overflow can be purchased for less than $20.00. I also stated, the copper pipes going into the water heater would have to be removed to remove old heater anyway. He stated that additional $250.00 would still be required and that I probably do not understand the extra labor required. At this point, I informed the representative I worked as a pipefitter to help pay my way through college and that I know that what is involved in replacing the water heater and there is no additional labor involved with the present install and replacement over normal. The representative switched into used care salesman mode. I then asked him to leave and told him he was not professional. I asked a friend to help with transport of new water heater from Home Depot. I installed the new water heater within 30 minutes of having the new unit at my house. My cost for new water heater and parts was $274.64. I applied with home warranty company for a buy out. If the person that DuVal sent to may house is representative of the company, then I would not recommend doing business with this company

I used DuVal through my insurance company to have my A/C fixed. My A/C went out during Memorial Day weekend and I called my insurance company on Monday. DuVal was able to come out on that following Friday to check and see what was the problem. I got one diagnosis from the first electrician to come out and report that we needed a new compressor. The company did not have the part and we had to wait about 2 weeks for the part to come in. By this time, they called to schedule another electrician to come out through, DuVal. However, when this electrician came he reported that the previous electrician diagnosised our problem incorrectly. He questioned why the other electrician did not come and check the unit in our attic and reported that we needed a different part, a new coil, but was nice enough to put some freon into the unit to hold us over during the 100 degree weather. A week later, after this part was ordered, the company sent out another person, who put the new coil into the unit while dropping, grease, black tar, or something onto our carpet, leaving big black stains. I called the company to inform them of their electrician?s mess and they put me through to a voicemail to leave a message in which I never got a phone back. Either myself or my fiancé has called every day since Friday 6/29/2012 and have yet to receive a call back. This company has some excellent people working for them, but also some really horrible people. They never call to give the customer 30mins notice on their arrival since most of the appointment times was a 6 hour windows. The carpet that was ruined was new and just installed in January and I find it unprofessional that the company does not return any phone calls. I would use someone else, not just because of their lack of professionalism, thoroughness when diagnosising the problem, but because of they do not have any parts that you need and inconvenience you and your time, do not return phone calls, are often rude when asking questions and refusing to send someone out on Saturday since they messed up the first time (regardless if they only do certain A/C calls on Saturdays, this is after their electrician reported that they do work on Saturday).
Description of Work: DuVal came to the house to diagnosis why our A/C Unit was not working, they came out several times diagnosis two different problems. They were able to add Freon into our unit to help from leaking.

Woke up on 5/3/12 to water dripping through my ceiling onto the floor. Went to attic and discovered water pouring out of both ends of my air handler unit cabinet. I immediately turned off my ac, toweled up the mess and placed more towels to absorb the leaking h2o, & called my 2-10 home warranty. They quickly notified Duval and Duval could not schedule an appointment until 5/7/12. On this day a tech came out. I had no more personal days (as I had used them all during the winter when Duval took 5 visits to repair my heat), so my dad stayed home to let the man in. My dad is in a wheel chair and could not monitor what theman was doing, so he could not quality control what was happening in the attic. The service man wrote that the emergency pan was cracked and was going to leave at that. My dad however, per my instruction, informed the man that the primary pan was the one that was cracked and that the emergency pan was 10 inches shorter than the unit, so it wasn't catching all of the water. He also demanded all of the waterlogged 1/4 foam insulation in the unit be replaced. We had a big concern that mold would develop if the water was left, but the service man didn't seem to mind. The parts were ordered 2 days later. 2 weeks passed with no word from Duval. I called and their usual grumpy dispatch girls (Carol) said they were waiting for an eta on a back ordered emergency pan and they could not tell me a time when they could have the problem fixed. I called the warranty, filed a complaint, because duval could come fix the primary pan so I could run the ac and fix the emergency pan later. My warranty called Duval and Duval gave them the "we are waiting for all the repair parts" line. I spoke with warranty comp. and filed a formal complaint that Duval is giving them misleading information. On 5/29/2012 Duval came with parts(again my wheel chaired father was home). The service man replaced everything leaving the unit in this condition: both ends of the unit sagging, covered in tape, a new primary pan that Does not match the installation of the original (much bigger & drain on opposite side), the foam not replaced, only shop vacuumed, the ducts coming off the unit logged with water, the scrap metal and parts buried to the side in my attic insulation, insulation on my downstairs floor, and water still pouring out the ends of the unit into my ceiling. All parts replaced, but for some reason not preventing the leak. I called the service man, upset that he left my house in disarray with water leaking in my attic. He said the unit just "needs to be replaced". He said he would call the warranty company "now" to request the replacement. I called the warranty company to follow up 30min later. He had not contacted them and so I informed them of the problem. They said the would go through the process of getting them back out there and I was enraged. I explained I had been in a house that was reaching temps of 88 inside for 4 weeks and that it was not healthy for my wife who had just had surgery and my pets. They agreed but said they must "wait" to hear back from Duval... My warranty company then told me, "refuse Duval if we ever assign them to a claim in the future".

They installed the system but less than a month later the system started leaking water on my floor. I was told this system had a special cut of valve to prevent this from happening. So I called them to come fix what the problem was, but the employee sounded like she did not want to help me with my problem. So finally get an appointment. The guy comes out says he fixes the problem and leaves. But my AC starts leaking again but more than before. So I call back and now I have to wait 4 days till they can come out again. Bottom line I got a $4500 ac system I can not use because is is leaking so much water on my floor that it is warping my laminate flooring in my living room. I got to kids with asthma sitting in a hot stuffy house. I'm more than likely to find some one else to fix and fix it right. Company came back out to my home that same day after I called to complain. Attempted to fix the problem and will do a follow up to complete the work.
Description of Work: I hired this company to install a new HVAC system.

I was a little apprehensive at first about a heating, a/c & plumbing company responding to my electrical issue, but was assured during the scheduling call that the person being dispatched was indeed a licensed electrician. I was given an eta window of 8am-1pm. My husband and I work late nights so when John arrived at 9:40am without calling we were asleep. He called my cell phone at 9:43am very annoyed over the fact that he had been ringing the doorbell for 3 minutes with no response. I advised him that it was inoperable as a result of the power outage he was responding to and rushed to answer the door. He was noticeably upset and a bit rude. He came in and immediately went to work investigating our issue. He seemed very knowledgable and familiar with the wiring of my home. He was very thorough in checking out all possible problems as rectifying the actual one. He even went on to explain and make suggestions to my husband about other possible concerns. Because of his initial interaction with me I remained scarce during his visit but did ask a few questions before he left. We just moved in about a month ago, after seeing how knowledgeable he was I wanted to gain as much information from his as possible.
Description of Work: My home warranty company sent them out to investigate/repair a power outage to various outlets/switches in my home.

Our A/C unit froze (likely undercharged) when we switched it to cool after the 1st warm string of days in March. Duval was sent over via our warranty company (American Home Shield) on a Saturday. On 3/17/12, the tech diagnosed the problem and informed us that we needed a new part for the A/C unit, and it would take 7-10 business days to arrive. Next week it was rather warm, and it was almost 80 degrees for 3-5 days in the house. With a newborn in the house, I ended up calling Duval on a status repair at least 2-3 times a week for 2 weeks. Finally, on 3/29/12, we were on the schedule for Tuesday, 4/03/12 for replacement of the part. The tech arrived around 10 am, and was very professional. The entire repair took 2 hours, and we now have cool air again in the house. We then learned from the 2nd tech, that the part arrived from York and was in their warehouse on 3/27/12, and that they have unsuccessfully tried to repair the unit on our house on 3 different occasions prior to 4/03/12. I have been home this entire time, from 3/14/12 thru 4/03/12 on FMLA for the birth of our new son. AND during that time, no one from Duval had come by the house. This after I kept calling on status updates. Fortunately, it cooled off so that we could live in the house without any A/C, but for the future, I will NOT be using this company again because of the lack of communication, and the fact that someone had been lying to the fact that someone had attempted to service the home, when in fact, no one had come by for almost 3 weeks after the initial consult. I will ask our warranty company to allow us to change providers if we are again assigned Duval for service. It's just not worth it! I will comment that the tech that actually did the repair/install was professional and did a good job.

They always come in a uniform and are always polite. They always explain everything to me without making me feel stupid. They always clean up after themselves. They never have to come back out to fix things, they get the job done right the first time, every time. Their customer service is top notch. I won't let anyone else in my house anymore!
Description of Work: I absolutely LOVE DuVal! Every time something goes wrong in my home, my warranty company sends out company's that cause more problems then I originally had. Then DuVal comes and saves the day. They have fixed my heat pump, my hot water heater, electrical issues and plumbing issues in my home.

I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: This company was sent to my home by my home warranty company on several occassions to fix my heat / cool system. They'd say it was one thing fix it. The unit would work for a week then go back out. They'd come back then state it was something else. This time the part was taken to their van and clean and return. The united work for a week then once again it went out. Now, in the mean time I advised my warranty company of this so they sent this other company out. That didn't work so they sent Duval back out again this time the man comes into my home and goes WHAT'S THE PROBLEM NOW!!! My unit was now putting out a burning smell through my vents, and carbon monoxide per my local gas company. He then fix this and low and behold it went out again weeks later. I will never use this company again.

On April 26, 2011, we entered into a service contract with Duval to provide seasonal maintenance for our H/AC units for $300 per year. We agreed to this price and paid by credit card. They called to schedule a service time on May 10, 2011 from the hours of 8am -1pm, so I took off a day of work to meet them. At 1pm, there still had been no service person to the house. Sortly after 1pm, my husband received a call that the service person was in Midlothian, VA with a broken down truck and would not be arriving. The driver must have known he was not going to be on time as soon as he broke down, so either way, we did not receive a courtesy phone call from them until I called Duval to see why no one had shown up on time. (in a 5 hour window, there should have been enough time to let me know if he was not coming. If he had JUST broken down at that moment, he was still too far away to make it to my house at the appointed time. Midlothian is almost 50 miles from our home, and he could not have arrived in the window provided, even if the truck was working fine. ) We called Duval and said that if this is the kind of customer service we can expect, we wanted to cancel our contract, since no service had been provided. Under the Terms and Conditions of their contract, it states that Duval will "endeavor to provide prompt and efficient service." This did not occur. We spoke to the representative and said that we had already lost a day of pay on this arrangement, and that we no longer desired to use their serviced. We were told that Mr. Duval would have to approve that and that he would return our call. Several days later, after no phone call, we received a voice mail from a Duval representative that a refund would not be coming, and that arrangements would have to be made to reschedule! Naturally, they did not call to reschedule (not that we would have at that point) We never heard from Mr. Duval and finally sent a formal letter, seeking the $300 back since no service was rendered, and asked our credit card company to initiate a chargeback. We finally received the credit on July 17, 2011.
Description of Work: though a service contract was purchased, and an appointment was made to provide annual service, Duval did not ever perform the service.
