Black Goose Chimney

Mr Kerr and his associate arrived as scheduled. The service was for an inspection and an sweep, if necessary. I hadn't used the fireplace in a few years because of a toddler being in the house and wasn't sure if there were critters or crud in my chimney so I didn't know what to expect the service to render. Both guys were very professional in their appearance and their manners. While the associate pulled the equipment from the truck, Mr Kerr explained the process and did a fireplace inspection inside. He then went out and performed the external portion and took several pictures to include in his report. Upon completion of the inspection, I was told no sweep was necessary but there were repairs that needed to be made before it could be used. He then went into full detail of his findings, showed me pictures and also offered estimates for the mentioned repair work. The overall time was about a half hour and the cost for the inspection was only $119... can't beat it! Will definitely recommend this company to my friends.

They did a good job. They told me that I won't have to have my chimney swept for a least a year. I thought the the price was reasonable.

Many years ago I used them for a chimney sweep, and they cleaned out my dryer vent while there. Over the years, my dryer vent degraded and needed to be repalced (both from dryer to wall and the part in the crawl space). The dryer works much better now, but more imp[ortantly, I am not worried about the vent catching fire. I would recommend Black Goose for chimney sweep and dryer vent services.

Called Black Goose when I heard a bird struggling in the chimney. Called the next day (on Saturday) to schedule an appointment for Tuesday. Showed up on time and checked the chimney and the dryer vent to determine if cleaning was necessary. The bird had managed to get out of the chimney so I was not charged for that. Dryer vent did not need cleaning so was not charged for that service either. The chimney cap was replaced so it was a productive visit. The technician was helpful and would hire again if services were needed. Very pleased with result.

Great experience - will use them again if I need help with the gas fireplace.

We needed to have extensive repair work done on my chimney due to hurricane damage & code compliance issues. Jim and his team were fantastic. They were prompt & always professional and never had any issues if I happened to ask a lot of questions about what was going on or what they were working on.The entire repair process took a week to complete and we (my wife and I) cannot say enough good things about this company. The two members of his team that were here working on the job were Rick & John. These two were great guys who knew a great deal more about chimney's than I was aware existed. They were very personable and did not mind my dog being a little hyper from time to time. They were also very good around my 1 year old son. They showed up when they said they were and worked very hard to get their job done on time. When they were finished with the chimney, we were very pleased with the work. The new hearth & tiles look amazing and they were able to cut them to fit a pattern that I had designed. Personally, I feel that the chimney is now immeasurably better than what it was when we had originally bought the house. Again, I cannot give this company marks high enough for the quality of work that was done for us. Would highly recommend them to anyone needing work done on their chimney and will definitely use each spring for chimney cleaning.

My husband inherited his parents house with a fireplace that hadn't been used in over 20 years. We found out why when the Black Goose guys came to clean the chimney in late December and showed us on their video camera that the flue was cracked. They were great and even let me use an Angies List discount for the cleaning even though I had forgotten to print out the coupon and bring it with me. It did take about 7 weeks to get the estimate from them. (They did warn me they were very busy that time of year.) My husband and I knew that this would be an expensive repair from the research that we did, but having a working fireplace was important to us. When we did get the estimate from Black Goose we felt it was reasonable and actually less than we had anticipated. Once the contract was signed they were very quick to schedule the work and do an over the phone interview to let us know about any hazards. The work was scheduled to be completed in 3 days and it was. They were punctual and professional and answered any questions that we had. They had to take a lot of debris out of the fireplace as they removed the old flue and they were careful to lay down cloths so that they didn't damage anything. Everything was cleaned up before they left and they also arranged for the city permit and inspection. A few weeks later, they called to see if everything was going well. Unfortunately for us, in southern Virginia, it decided to be 80 degrees for a few weeks, so we weren't able to enjoy our fireplace until this past weekend when the temperature dropped. We had a lovely roaring fire and roasted marshmallows for s'mores. Yum!

They have been amazing to work with so far. They have been on time. They have been very diligent in getting back to us when we call. I am difficult to get hold of and they have been able to text and email me, which has been excellent. They are pricier than other companies that we contacted but we prefer to work with them.

I have to compliment Black Goose on their punctuality and respectful attitude of their inspectors. I do, however, also have to recommend that if Black Goose suggests to you that you need a new liner to get a second or third opinion first. We had an inspection done in 2003 a few months after we purchased our home. Black Goose recommended at that time that our fireplace was very unsafe and we should not use it unless we first installed a new liner. I don't remember the estimate they gave us for replacing the liner, but it was enough that we could not afford it at the time. It seemed that the estimate was several thousand dollars, and we could not have replaced the liner without taking out a loan. I began to notice friends who also had fireplaces that they did not use. When I asked them why they did not use their fireplace, they explained that they had an inspection done and learned that their fireplace was unsafe, and they could not use their fireplace until they replaced the liner. When I asked them who performed the inspection they said, "Black Goose." This caused me to be suspicious of Black Goose's recommendations to us about getting a liner. We did decide to get a second opinion, and we had our fireplace repaired and put into use (safe use) at a cost of only $1500. Another very reputable chimney business said that our fireplace needed work in order to be safe, but that the work could be done without putting in a new liner. If any company suggests a very expensive repair, please be sure to get a second opinion before spending the money.

We purchased a home that had a prefab wood burning insert that was broken. After much searching we purchased a beautiful gas insert and mantle that was a replicate of a Victorian coal burning fireplace from the Victorian Fireplace Shop in Richmond http://www.gascoals.com/ . We needed a company in the Smithfield area to install it and run the LP gas line as well as replacing the old chimney cap. After researching Angie's List I called Black Goose and Dock came out to do an inspection and cost evaluation for us. He was very professional, efficient, and PROMPT. We ran in to several problems with the installation because of issues with the house. Dock and his crew were right on top of it and we now have an absolutely GORGEOUS gas fireplace installed. Black Goose should give lessons on how to provide an EXCELLENT service experience to the consumer. We highly recommend them in every category and could not have been more pleased with their quality and workmanship. In addition every individual that we had contact with at this company was pleasant, friendly and very knowledgeable. THANK YOU BLACK GOOSE!!

Mike was very professional explaining everything he was doing. He tested the gutters to make sure they were clean before leaving. This job and another he performed for a family member were both excellent.

On Monday, October 31st, Mike and Ryan (Technicians) arrived on time and completed a NFPA level 1 chimney inspection and performed a chimney sweep. They also provided feedback regarding our existing grate and recommended a smaller grate or shorten our existing one. They provided us with a written report and a customer service report card to return to the company. They were courteous, professional and quite informative! There was no mess to clean afterwards. We are looking forward to using them as well as recommending the company to those we trust in the near future. Overall excellent!

They did an excellent job. Their customer service is excellent. They are thorough. You can count on them, they will do everything you need done at one time. They have great follow up. They give you a survey to fill out after the job is done to send back to them for feedback.

Excellent. Mike arrived on time, inspected the cap, took photo's so we could see the condition on the ground. He informed us that the cap was solid and did not need replacement. He cleaned the cap and painted it, took after picture so we could see the results on the ground. Mike was very professional, friendly, and answered all our questions and did a great job. The cap looks as if it is brand new.

Representative was the reline crew leader from the Co. Very knowledgeable and made sure I was educated. Prior to any work done, they inspected both the outside & inside of the flue, chimney brick, cap,damper etc. Pictures were provided to make sure I understood work to be done. Sweep was completed. They were very clean, laid drop cloth covers all over. Price was not the cheapest in town, but wasn't the most expensive either. Used coupon provided from Angies List.

Amazing. Their promptness was incredible, my service technician, Mike, was an absolute pleasure to work with. He fully explained everything to me and did an amazing job with everything. He provided a service that was not only outstanding but had a personal touch to it which goes a long way.

Just one word: outstanding! John is very honest about his work and in his assessement on chimney products. He is also very personable and comfortable to work with. I like the way he does his work. I paid him extra money out of my own appreciation for his excellent work.

Went OK, they were professional and on time. Left a bit of a mess with drier duct cleaning outside. They recommended about $3000 in chimney repairs but we passed.

The quotation received over the phone was comperable to those from other businesses and the Saturday AM appointment fit our needs. The product installed looked like good quality although it seems a bit expensive. The installer, John, braved a damp, high pitched roof and installed it very quickly. UPDATE: The cap is still on after all the wind storms of the summer and thru Sandy!
