They have a monopoly, so I don't seem to have too many options. I feel like I am captured and I have to ransom myself. Their price is the same as everybody. They could be more professional.

For many months, our Cox-provided cable TV service has been hiccuping, freezing, tiling and making some programs absolutely unwatchable. It has occurred at all periods of the day. It occurred on all channels. Customer service was very responsive and sent technician after technician to our house to check all kinds of "readings" on our cables and three TV sets. They replaced junctions, boosters, wiring and other technical goodies. They even replaced the underground cable running from the street to the house. The technicians were generally knowledgeable and professional. Several of the technicians showed me the readings bouncing up and down on his equipment, indicating that even though he might not see it on my TV screen, it was still occurring within the system. They even gave me a tremendous discount for several months while the TV service was sub-standard. But, they have been unable to fix the problem. One technician, the one who maintains the "network" out on the street and in the neighborhood, accidentally told me there was a problem in the overall network and that it was not in my house.and that repairs to the "network" were very difficult and very expensive. I have never seen him again to discuss. One of the technicians asked me to keep a log of when this hiccuping occurred and on what channel. I pressed him to explain why I should go to all that trouble and interrupt my TV viewing when his own measurements already showed that this problem was occurring and that past histories of tiling and hiccuping were of no value. It appears that Cox is not prepared to bear any more expenses, especially "network" repairs, and they're hoping I will just go away and lose interest. Trouble is, their hiccuping, tiling and jerking is so irritating that I cannot get through even one night's TV watching without it occurring. So, HELLO, Cox, you're irritating me every night, every channel. In my area, we have a choice of Cox cable or Verizon FiOS cable. Since Cox is apparently unable or unwilling to fix the tiling and hiccuping problem, I will continue to explore Verizon FiOS and possibly switch to that service. Will I pay more for Verizon FiOS? Perhaps. I find myself more and more UNwilling to pay such a high price to Cox for TV service that is of such low quality.
Description of Work: I worked with Cox customer service and Cox in-house repair services and Cox network maintenance and other divisions of Cox that I can't even remember. They were all prompt, professional, but after months and months of visits and handwringing, they cannot fix the problem. See the next section for description of the problem

Description of Work: We ordered cable service for 2 rooms basic service only, both televisions older models. Cable service was provided to (1) room only and the technician did not have another box for the 2nd room. We were told someone would return the next day (Monday) but no one showed up. We were told after we called no one put it in the system, but someone would be there the next day (Tuesday). Again, no one showed up, we called and were told the same thing. We were promised someone would come out the next day (Wednesday) between 10-12 noon, no one showed up so we called and were told between 1-3 pm. No one showed up so we called and were told between 4-6 or they would take $10.00 off our bill. The technician showed up around 5 pm.

Description of Work: cox communication agreed to adjust my monthly rates for provided bundled services for a period of six months after which my monthly rate would be adjusted up approx. 10 percent from my current rate. As an added incentive they also included a free upgrade of the sports channel for a |period of one year. If my rates continue to go up I will consider other alternatives.

They first sent a subcontractor out to my home to install my services. Sadly, the man was extremely incompetent. He told me he could not install my phone in the kitchen among other strange restrictions. I called the company when he left and requested a Cox Tech, as soon as possible. Cox sent an experienced and gracious technician to my home in a timely manner, and this man rectified all my problems quickly and effectively.
Description of Work: Install my phones and cable TV. A few months later, my computer was installed, as well.

took my old cable box to their store for a newer cable box...no problems...hooked up the newer cable box myself and called cox to activate the new box...no problems...they provide good service and you don't have to sign a one or two year contract...however I do have a problem with their rates which are very very high...makes you want to consider switching to a dish

On my most recent visit, I got a new DVR and cut back my service to reduce the price by about $25 per month. Cox has been my cable provider for the past 10 years in the Kingstowne area of Alexandria. I even tried their phone service, though I didn't like that. In this area, Cox has always been helpful and responsive. They've had to come to my place half a dozen times over the years. Only once were they unable to get a technician to me in a timely manner (had to wait until the next day). I not only use their cable service, they are also my Internet Service provider. Their cable service has improved over the last few years, though I find the cost quite high. I understand that's a common problem for cable companies these days. The cable service has been very reliable at my address, I've only experienced one or two outages of any kind. The picture quality has varied at times, but the HD signal provided by their DVRs has been decent. The new DVR appears to be able to reconstruct the video somewhat better than the older model. I believe the quality is significantly improved just by changing the box. The Internet service has been stable and reliable. I had one outage of about 8 hours that I can recall, but that's all. I do have to reset my modem half a dozen times a year. I have no idea what's going on there and have assumed it was due to maintenance being performed on the network. I pay for the 25 Mb/s level of service, but quite often see 30 Mb/s download rates when my computer is downloading large files like software updates or music files. On my last visit, they suggested I would see further improvements if I swapped out my modem. I haven't spoken to a person about a technical issue in several years. Their automated service has always been able to fix the problem. When I have called to adjust my channel line-up or ask a question about service options, the representatives have always been courteous and helpful. I have appreciated that, since I can be aggravated when I open the bill and see the price has gone up again. My sole source of problems with them is price. But I guess that's the universal complaint about cable.
