Until this point this contractor had been good. The quality of work was good and punctuality was fair. This time I contacted the operations manager by email on March 29 to see why the work was not performed that I had scheduled with him to take place later on in the week of March 8 - 12. I allowed two weeks after this because of the wet weather we had experienced and to give him a chance to catch up on the other service calls missed by the weather. He responded on April 4 and informed me he was unable to coordinate the work because of a family tragedy and he would be on the property sometime the week of April 5 - 9, however, however no work was done during that time period. I again contacted him by email on April 11 and asked if he would like me to call another contractor to perform the work (I had every intention of retaining him for future jobs). He did not respond so I called him on April 14 to see what he wanted to do. He responded he would do part of the job on April 15 and complete the job on April 16. On April 15 he had not started the job so I called again and left a message with him expressing my growing frustrations and asked for him to call me if he would not be out on April 16. I never got a call and he never showed up. Late on the evening of April 16 I contacted him via email and gave him a hard deadline to complete the work (April 20). I also informed him that if he wanted to keep my business he would have to discount the work by 10%. In addition I told him I felt I needed to contact those clients to whom I refereed him and relay this series of events. He then contacted me on April 18 and was very unprofessional stating he did not respond to ultimatums and would not tolerate defamation of character. I followed up with an email on April 19th assuring him that I would not "defame his character" but I would detail his level of service and let other's come to their own conclusions which is the reason I am here.
