J&M Moving Services

My husband and I relocated from NJ to central VA in the spring of this year, which was an ordeal that we weren't ready to repeat. For some moving is viewed as a necessary evil and after four of them, it is my sentiment exactly. Moving is NOT my favorite past time. So when my 86 year-old Mother-in-law had to be entered into a nursing facility, we had to move the contents of the family home before the close date for the new owners. To compound matters, add the hustle and preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday to the mix and this becomes an even greater challenge. Enter J&M Moving Services. I saw their listing on Angie's List on Saturday (after black Friday) and promptly contacted the owner, Mark. I explained our situation and that we needed to move not only the contents of a single family home but also my Mother-In-law's favorite recliner and curio to the nursing home. Mark's moving expertise and professional manner made this move far less daunting and even allowed for a few laughs as we wrapped up some of the family's cherished keepsakes. Mark's estimate of the tools we needed and the labor/trucks for this move was spot on! I can't say enough praise about the professional courtesy and promptness of this company. I have worked with other moving companies in the past and while they charged more than J&M Moving Services, the experience does not compare to how efficiently this move was handled. They say to "pay it forward" and good fortune will come your way. As Mark and his workers were leaving the nursing home, an elderly gentleman in his wheelchair summoned me to get the truck to stop. It turned out that he was looking for a moving company and was grateful for the referral. We were glad to give a good reference then and hope that by sharing our experience here will help others too.

Scheduled an appointment with the provider through Angies List (meaning that we have documentation of the time) and they were responsive and helpful. Schedule it within a day. However, the day came and they never showed up. We called one hour after they were supposed to arrive and they stated "Whups, we just forgot about you." Not someone I want handling our important possessions with a "Whups, we just forgot about you" attitude...

I am extremely unhappy with this service and do not understand how anyone would give this person an "A" rating.

The team showed up on time. Very professional quick survey of the work and strategized how to best handle it. Work great as a team with care and swiftly helped us swap rooms and move some large pieces of furniture, including breaking them down and putting them back together again in their new location.

The professionalism of the 2 gentlemen was high. They were courteous and were helpful in making suggestions, going a step further to sweep and straighten up the remainder of the garage area we worked on. There was only a slight hiccup in that the prepaid Angie's List pricing was not perfectly clear to the on-site supervisor. I had to call the owner before they left to get clarification for them. While I felt very comfortable with the quality, and I would hire them again, without the special pricing on Angie's list, I would find the hourly pricing too high. This was basically a garage clean out with nothing really dirty, just dusty. I would have looked for a lower price for this type of work (without Anigie's special). For inside work requiring delicate handling and interior care, I would hire, and recommend them without question.

J & M Moving Company are awesome!!!!! I called on Friday, September 12th at 5:00pm and spoke with the owner Mark Mosely. He was very professional and great to work with. He told me he could move the next day. I was SO excited. I met the movers (4 men and two trucks with enclosed trailers) at the storage unit Saturday morning at 10:00AM. Introductions were made and then the four men moved my belongings in 45 minutes! They hustled!!!! We arrived at my home between 11:15 and 11:30AM, which was located across town from the storage unit. Before moving any items into my home, they laid down blankets all over my floors to protect them from dirt and damage. The crew were very courteous in regards to not banging walls and/or doors. Antoine also hooked up my refrigerator, washer and dryer! Overall, Mark Moseley, Dominic, Antoine and the three other men were FABULOUS to work with. Professional, courteous, polite and genuine. I called Mark after the crew left and told him what a great group of men he had working for him. I am referring this moving to company to all of my friends!!!!!!!!! Thanks again J & M Moving Company, you are the BEST!!!!!

They were very experienced. They were really fast and conscientious. They did not slow us down and they did not harm anything. They made some good decisions with the furniture.

I thought I had read the fine print carefully, and still believe I had. My intent was to move two empty filing cabinets on the second floor of my house. Because of a past back surgery, I didn’t want to try to move them half a mile down the street to my new condo on my own. I figured two strong guys, it would take them maybe 30 minutes to an hour. I thought with the fine print it would certainly be within the $250 limit. I got a response from them pretty quickly requesting alternate dates to do the work. I didn’t hear from them for a while, so called and left a message. I finally spoke with Mark who was on a job and said he would call back. I finally spoke to them yesterday, they told me he was sending 3 people; they charge $150/hour with a 2 hour minimum and an hour travel time. It would be a total of $450, less the $250 credit, I would still owe them another $200. I have since found someone else to come do the job for just $100.

They guys did a great job. Very professional all the way through and covered all the bases including calling ahead to confirm the appointment, explaining the process/paperwork, keeping me updated and sitting down at the end to review everything. They completed the move ahead of my expectations, were very careful with my belongings, and very careful not to cause any damage on either end of the move.

Overall, using J & M Moving Services to move my belongings was a disaster. To start,they were an hour late, claiming they got lost in the Fan area of Richmond, saying their GPS was not working correctly. Then, the movers were being paid by the hour and they took 5 hours to complete a 2-½ hour move to an apartment only 7 minutes away. I had boxed most of my belongings and only have small furnishings for a 1-bedroom apartment. They had to be reminded multiple times that they were taking too long to move a small amount of items. During the drive to the new apartment, they seemed to have no experience driving a 14-foot truck because they not only hit a part of my new apartment complex but also hit a parked car (and they didn?t leave a note on the car they hit). I have found nicks and broken wood on most of my furniture and cracked glass on many of my framed pieces. There were four items I had marked VERY FRAGILE, WRAP CAREFULLY, and pointed them out personally as well. Two of those items were broken. One was a wood-framed antique mirror from my great grandmother. The other was a welded metal sculpture I had made. They ignored my instructions on how to lift it and be careful with it. Then, when I reminded them again after they broke some of the welds, they proceeded to grab it with one hand in the same reckless and careless manner and irreparably broke it. I ended up moving it later myself. As a side note, my mother and I had moved all my most delicate artworks the day before in a 14 foot truck which I drove to a much further location with absolutely no damage at all. There is no excuse for the widespread damage I found after J&M Moving handled my belongings. And lastly, as I have begun to settle into my new apartment and arrange my furniture, I have found almost every single piece of furniture to be damaged. Please keep in mind that I only live in a 1-bedroom apartment, so in order to ding, bang, and scratch everything they must have been so extremely reckless that I do not think that they care one bit about other people?s belongings. Furthermore, I have a large 51 inch by 21 inch wooden, sliding drawer that fits under my bed, and they broke the floor of the drawer completely in half and then used one piece of strapping tape to ?repair? it - and they never told me. Now, I must say, these men seemed to be nice and they were treated with complete respect, but did they respect my things and me? Most certainly not! Were they conscientious about my belongings and careful with the things that I said were fragile? No, they were the complete opposite. After realizing that multiple things had been broken, and it being four and a half hours into a 2 and a half hour job with the truck still full, the manager finally showed up to see why it was taking so long. I tried to approach Mark, the manager of J&M Moving Services. The following is a direct quote of how that conversation went: ?Sir, may I please talk to you, because I am very frustrated and disappointed with how this move is going,? and Mark?s response, ?Do you want us to finish?? How does one respond to such a rude and condescending question? Mark?s excuse for the unprofessional work was that he had a new crew manager who needed the experience of handling a job on his own. Mark expected me to agree that everyone needs to be given a chance, but what about Mark overseeing the work of a new manager?. And Mark was going to charge me $675 for a move that should have cost about $300. After a discussion about the cost of the extensive damage and excessive time, Mark decided to ?wash? the cost of the move, therefore giving me the move for free. Thank you, Mark, for not charging me for this disastrous move that left me fixing things until 2 AM multiple nights in a row and still, 5 days later, finding more and more things damaged by his crew and himself. If I had been given a choice between a free move, or, a professional move at a reasonable cost, I would go with the latter, as the damages that he and his crew caused to my belongings have cost me immeasurably. I do not know what else to say, but do not chose this company if you care about your belongings. After reading all of the positive reviews on Angie?s List about J & M Moving Services, I thought for sure this was a trustworthy company. As part of a Foreign Service family, I have lived all over the world, moved many times, and this was my second move in Richmond. By the way, my first move in Richmond went flawlessly with exactly the same furniture and belongings. I know what a bad moving company is like. But from what I have just experienced with J & M moving services, they are the complete and utter opposite of what I had expected and far surpassed my worst nightmare in a moving company.

Very prompt service and courteous and friendly movers. Moved desks without any problems and were very careful not to scratch walls or floors. Very satisfied with the service.

The total cost of the move was $750 but I had purchased an Angie's Deal for $125 for $250 worth of moving services, so my total out of pocket was $625 ($750 - $250 deal + $125 cost of deal). Jeffrey, Deron and Charles showed up at 9:15 instead of 9:00 as agreed, but Jeffrey had called me ahead of time that morningto tell me that they would arrive around that time and he promptly adjusted the start time on the invoice to 9:15 when he arrived and started. I just can't say enough great things about this company. I hired them based solely on Angie's List reviews and they went above and beyond!! We had originally estimated that this would take 2-2.5 hours but I had a lot of boxes on top of the furniture in a 2 BR apartment so the total move was 4 hours. My apartment was on the 2nd story of the building and most of my furniture and boxes went to the 2nd floor of my new house. Despite the intense heat and humidity, these professionals did not complain one time about anything! My master bedroom bed has a very tall headboard and it would not fit up the stairs at the new house. Charles was able to aptly take the headboard apart and put back together so that it could be moved up the stairs. During the entire move, these 3 gentlemen were pleasant to be around, efficient in doing their jobs and I just was so pleased with the service!! Nothing was broken and all of my furniture and TV was cared for with kid gloves. I will not hesitate to use J&M again! Mark, the owner, was very nice and professional in getting me scheduled when I needed. I highly recommend this company!

Keenan and Alicia, the moving team for the job, were careful in moving items with not a mark to my walls or trim, well-groomed, polite, cooperative, personable. The truck was tastefully painted so it didn't look like it was hauling my junk! The team worked efficiently and the job was completed in less time than I had expected. I have no complaints and will call the company for moving and disposal again. The owner, Mark Mosley was responsive to phone calls and complete in his descriptions of the plan for my work. The team arrived almost on the minute they were expected.

I contacted J & M by phone and was given cost info of $150 an hour. Since the movers would be driving from Richmond to Williamsburg, there would be a charge of an hour and a half, ie. $225. I provided info as to the furniture that would need to be moved. This was used to determine the size of truck needed. I also explained the long and winding driveway at the site - so the movers explained a trailer would be a better option. I scheduled a date. I received an email notification the same day. I was able to change several days later, and again, confirmation came by email. The day before the move I was contacted by phone and info was confirmed. The movers called the morning of the move to tell us that they were leaving - arrived on time. They brought a pick up truck that pulled an enclosed 18 ft. trailer. Three young men did all the moving. They wrapped all furniture well, were careful in moving, loading, and later - at the new house - unloading all items. They moved all our heavy furniture and took additional boxes that we had packed. They had to take two trips - but we had a lot to move. At the new house, they made sure to place all furniture where and how we wished it. They were courteous, professional. My husband and I were very pleased with the movers and with the service and would recommend them to others and use them again. We were charged by the hour - $150. The movers worked quickly. Didn't waste any time. The movers charged us an hour and a half for transportation, ie. $225.

Was an excellent experience. I contacted J&M on Monday to disucss the job, pricing and scheduling. J&M offered a good price and was able to make the delivery on Friday. Friday, the day of the move, J&M called 20 minutes ahead of time to inform the seller they would be coming by. J&M picked up the sofa, packed it appropriately and brought it to my residence within an hour. Upon arriaval, they introduced themselvs, I showed them where to place the sofa and 10 minutes later the job was complete. Excellent communication, sofa was well padded and protected during the move and it was right on time! I'd use them again anytime and recommend them to anyone who needs something moved!

Jeff and Rick show up at the exact time we had planned to start the move. Great men to work with. We had to make 4 stops to separate her items and they never complained about this extra work. She was on the 2nd floor of the apartment building. I used color posted noted with numbers on them so they would know how to load and unload their truck. I have spoken with several people in the building that are planning to move and gave them the business cards that Jeff gave me to hang out. Some watched and they were very impressed with their work. illlWe feel J&M Moving Service is very luck to have these 2 great employees......... I have worked with lots of comany's but these men were the very best at everything they did for our family. If we ever need to move again I will call J&M Moving Service.

My only contact with this provider was in the context of him explaining that $150 dollars worth of moving that the coupon provides is applied to a two-hour minimum requirement (not in the coupon) and a $150 fuel surcharge ( this amount not in the coupon) for a less than 5 mile move of four items. Provider was dismissive and rude, indicating that I could get my money back from Angie's List.I have no interest in doing business with him further.

J & M Moving is the best! I've used them twice and both times, Mark and his associate were on the dot with arrival times, but very, very professional courteous and polite. The second time I needed Mark to go pick something up unexpectedly and he was so kind to fit the pick up into his already crowded schedule going way above and beyond typical customer service. J & M's rates are excellent, but their customer service is OUTSTANDING! I will recommend J & M every chance I get!. Terrific service.

They were professional, courteous, and thorough. The team was friendly and did exactly what was expected. I would recommend them for any personal and professional moves.

They were a perfect company to deal with. They unloaded the 26 ft moving truck for me. Everyone was great. They were very flexible with our schedule and they were quick with the move and finished within 35 min. The owner all the way down to the actual movers were unbelievably kind. My wife didn't know there was an Angie's List deal and accidentally paid the full amount. I called the owner, Marcus, the next day and he was really nice about the whole thing. He just tore up the check and asked that we send a new one.

These guys were awesome. We spoke with Mark to get the appointment setup, very nice guy was a very easy process to get this scheduled. They showed up on time to do a walk through and survey everything before getting started (nice to see they were not trying to game the clock). They took the time to wrap all the furniture and efficiently packed the truck up pretty quickly. Unloading was a breeze as well everything made it into the home in the right spot. Not a single scratch or nick on any of the furniture or walls and these guys worked hard the whole time. All of the guys were very polite and friendly. I choose them based on the previous reviews here and they lived up to it. I would highly recommend J&M to anyone.

They were prompt. They followed all of my directions and did more than what was asked of them. Very nice man.

It was a terrible choice that I will never forget. J&M Moving are not good at all. I highly recommend that Angie's List disconnect any ties that they may have with J&M Moving. They are a big rip off, and they charged a lot more than we could afford, and than what was initially told, but it was too late for us to choose a different place. The workers they have are very lazy, they spend a lot of time just sitting in one of the rooms in our house, and just looking at the furniture, and not really doing their work. I don't know how J&M Moving got 4 or 5 stars in Angie's List. Whatever I saw was completely the opposite. I want Angie's List to be a reliable source for many customers, and it is, but I was shocked, because J&M Moving are terrible. I highly recommend that people don't use them. The moving that can be done in 2 hours, they take 6 hours. They charge by the hours, and so the more time they spend fooling around and not doing anything, the better it is with them. It cost me 1000 Dollars to move from Florida, and it cost me the same moving around the area. I would tell customers to stay away from them. I will never use them again. I am curious how they got such a high grade, because I experienced them and that was not true. I bought a big deal from Angie's List, but the owner was not aware that there was a discount by Angie's List, and so they just ignored that, and they charged whatever they want.
