My call was promptly replied to and set for the next day. The two men from J&M were given an address of the model home where they picked up the furniture and delivered the items to my home on time and in perfect condition.I am very thankful for their service and will use them again.Thanks!!!!

Description of Work: This company was ready to move me then calls me up the day before and says they need CASH to move. Because he's been burned before they don't accept credit or checks. Who carries around that much cash? Why should the customer be inconvenienced because the company doesn't have 21 century technology! Then -- on top of everything -- they say they can use their credit card machine but the customer has to pay the usage fee of the credit swap. These may be nice but they're not very professional!!

 + -1 moreI could not have asked for a better moving experience! I called Mark at J&M at the very last minute. He was booked up, but fit us in about 5 days later. Mark came and supervised and explained the whole process to us. He brought four AWESOME movers. They were nice and really, really fast, and I didn't see them bump into anything. It was really impressive. And they worked SO hard to try to fit this incredibly heavy dresser up an incredibly tiny stairwell. Even though it was the end of the move and they had to have been exhausted, they didn't give up. There is not a single thing broken, and everything was so well organized and I felt like we were in great hands. They even hauled away this horribly heavy boxspring and bed frame so that we wouldn't have to deal with it. The experience was so good that I'm actually sad that we won't be moving again any time soon! I cannot recommend them enough!
Description of Work: Moving a 1600 sq. ft., 2-story home to another 2-story, 1800 sq. ft. home about 5 miles away. We had already packed and moved the little things ourselves. Kitchen stuff, clothing, lamps, etc. We had J &M help us with all the furniture, rugs, patio furniture, and a few odds and ends boxes. And they helped us move it into a cape cod with a lot of small spaces and weird angles. We paid $180/hour, plus an hour of travel time, and then we tipped on top of it. The whole move took about 3 hours. So our total was 4 hours + tip.

 + -1 moreThe 4 guys arrived, did an assessment of what needed to go and then got to work. Items were wrapped and care taken not to damage items. They did a good job, were efficient and I was pleased with their work.
Description of Work: We needed to move large items from our old house to our new house (approx. 2 miles away) The guys arrived and were very pleasant to deal with. I was very pleased that they were careful about not banging furniture or dinging walls. They got paid by the hour, and I feel that they did exactly what I would want them to do.

They worked hard and didn't waste any time, even though the temperature was 101 degrees! I would highly recimmen them to anyone. They were the most professional, courteous, careful, nice group of guys we have dealt with.
Description of Work: We sold our house in Febrary and moved to a rental house while our new hause was being built. We had J & M Moving do that move for us and they were great. So when our new house was ready we call J & M Moving again and they moved us from a rental home to our new home.

Description of Work: Actually both of my daughters used this business to move them. I shared the expense with one of my daughters, having a couple of items moved myself. I have moved quite a few times over the years and thought there just weren't any movers that I would ever like or even trust. This was not the case with J & M. In fact they raise the bar for professional movers, and I would not use anyone else at this point. I found J & M on Angies List and selected them based on the reviews. They did not disappoint. Very professional, clean, pleasant, helpful, careful and honest, I was impressed by our overall experience.

 + -1 moreEventhough I was responsible for coordinating the move to/from 3 homes, Mark ensured me he would contact all involved to make sure we were on the same schedule. He was very courteous and professional. When I asked for an estimate, he gave me an actual price and informed me he would include the Angie's List coupon He made suggestions on which order each stop should be made, which worked out very well, for us both; less labor-time cost for me, and last drop-off was near his business. The movers arrived on time; was very courteous, professional and efficient. When the 2 movers arrived at my home, I was a little concerned that they would not be able to handle my furniture. I guess I didn't realize their strength because they handled it very well. I had previously contacted other movers for estimates. None could match the price and I doubt that the ones I called could match the service of J and M Moving Services. I would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I hired J and M Moving Services to move some dining room furniture, to and from three homes. At the 1st stop in Chesterfield, VA, the two movers picked up a 5-piece dining room furniture set to deliver to a home #2 in Glen Allen, VA. The movers arrived at my home #3, to pick up a large 9-piece dining room set to deliver to the home #1 in Chesterfield. They were great in every way!

 + -1 moreI have contacted several moving companies in the Chesterfield area and wanted to comment on the professionalism and responsiveness of Mark from J&M Moving. He answered my calls IMMEDIATELY and was able to provide me quick, but seemingly thorough estimates over the phone for an upcoming move. He was able to schedule our move on relatively short notice and even gave me suggestions on how to make the move process go more smoothly (and therefore reducing time) on the moving day. While the move hasn't happened yet, it is scheduled for next week, I wanted to write about the great customer service I have received to this point. I will post another review after the move takes place. My husband and I were undecided on whether to hire a moving company or do the move ourselves, and if the move goes as smoothly as the scheduling, it should be a great choice.

Everyone had smile and were also so very polite. This was the best moving company/experience I've ever had and I've moved dozens of times in the past several years.

 + -1 moreI was extremely pleased with my experience with J&M. They were fast, careful, professional, and very pleasant to work with. I find moving inherently stressful and so I could not believe how easy and stress-free they made it. First, I think I called them on Friday and they had absolutely no problem arranging to move me the next day, which was great. When I called, I got an estimate over the phone (which turned out to be very accurate) as to how much time the job would take and how much it would cost. I also got a very clear explanation of the way the fees would be determined. My schedule was such that I couldn't be ready until late-ish in the afternoon - around 3 p.m. - and they were able to accommodate that, too. When the three-person team arrived, they introduced themselves and the two gentlemen who did most of the moving immediately set about determining the best order of operations, etc., while their supervisor went over the very simple and straightforward contract containing the terms that had previously been explained to me. They had brought everything they needed (hand carts, blankets, bungee cords, etc) with them. There were no surprises and the team was a model of efficiency. I have already recommended J&M to everyone I know who might conceivably need movers in the near future. I cannot say enough good things about them and I would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: The J&M team (two young men who did the heavy lifting and a woman who supervised and drove the truck) moved my dresser, desk, bed frame, and full-sized mattress & box spring, along with several heavy boxes, out of my bedroom on the second floor of an old house. Because of the age of the house, the hallway and stairway were both pretty narrow, but the J&M team maneuvered even the everything out of the room and down the stairs with apparent ease. They also moved a sofa and a bar with a mini-fridge out of the living room on the first floor. Everything also had to go down the porch steps before being loaded into the truck. I was very impressed with how quickly and efficiently they got everything out of the house, but was worried about where they were going to be able to park the truck in order to unload at my new place. It was only about half a mile away, but the only parking available was parallel street parking. When I expressed this concern to the supervisor (I wish I could remember her name...), she said not to worry, they would work something out. Sure enough, that aspect of the process went just as smoothly. They got everything safely and speedily up to my new fourth-floor apartment via the elevator. The whole process took about an hour and forty minutes - which was right on target with the estimate that I had been given over the phone. I had described what I had, and the gentleman told me that he thought it could be done in under two hours.

By the time I got to the store, he had secured my piece of furniture (I had prepaid and they were holding it for me) and loaded it onto his truck. When they got to my home, they unpacked it, placed it, and took the packing material with them. I would definitely use their services again
Description of Work: I contracted with J&M to pick up an entertainment center from the store where I purchased it and deliver it to my home. In addition, I had them move a futon to my son's house and pick up a mattress and box spring from my son's and deliver back to my house.

 + -1 moreI was pleased overall. The men worked hard and did a good job. The charge was $175/hour which included 4 men and a truck and a pull-behind trailer. The only thing that I was not completely happy with is that they charge an hour extra at $175/hour for them to drive across town to get there in the morning and then drive home when they leave. He was up front about this when I booked but that really seems excessive.
Description of Work: Belongings from a two bedroom apartment were loaded in a truck. Then they drove with me to a nearby storage unit and picked up more stuff. Then they drove 1/2 mile to the apartment to which we were moving and unloaded the truck, placing the contents in our new apartment. We fed them pizza for lunch so they went off the clock for 15min.

Because of the distance, Mark gave me a phone estimate the week before, kept in touch during the week, met me at the location when he said he would, and got right to work. He and his sons did a great job and packed everything very professionally. I met them back at my home that evening. They very patiently unpacked everything, placed it where I wanted, and set up a bed. The price was reasonable, considering the distance and high tolls. I would definitely use them again

Well, the list was helpful, but J & M conducted the job in their way without pointing out where the list was off. They know how and when to move furniture even in a rather cramped area.
Description of Work: This was an in-house move in a 3-story townhouse, a complete rearragement of bedrooms and repositioning of area rugs. Everythng was accomplished in the estimated time frame! J&M Services could not have been more professional. I would definitely use this company again and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

 + -1 moreI contacted this company the Friday before our move to get a quote. I'd seen their reviews on Angie's List and was expecting a good experience with them. They were very responsive--I got a call back within a couple hours of leaving a message, and the owner set up time to meet with me on the Monday to evaluate the contents of the house and storage facility in order to give me a quote. He was very punctual in making our appointment. However, after viewing the contents and recommending a 4-man crew, he estimated that it would take 8 hours or more to move and gave an hourly quote that was $85/hour higher than the company I eventually went with (for a 4-man crew also, and they only took 7 hours and didn't have to come out to look to do an estimate first). We went with the other company and were pleased with their services.

On the day of the move, he and his two assistants called to advise of a minor delay and arrived when promised. They performed the work quickly and safely with a high attention to making sure nothing was damaged. They were utterly professional and courteous. I would recommend J&M without any reservations and will use them again if I can. Mark is clearly committed to his business and to treating his customers well. Very refreshing these days!!

I needed some extra help for a super heavy glass table and he pulled it together for me on the weekend! He was dependable, came on time, was polite and knew what he was doing.
