Hardesty Roofing

I called about water leaking in the roof around the chimney. I asked if I needed to be at the house to let the guy into the attic to view what I was seeing. He stated that he didnt need to see inside that his inspection of the outside revealed to him what the problem was. They only charged me $150.00 to come by and evaluate the problem and supposedly seal the flashing and patch the nail hole. The next time it rained it was still leaking. They came by again and offered a new suggestion that the chimney needed to be sealed and more patching of the flashing and chimney area. The cost was going to be 550.00. I did not go for a second round. I really felt like it was a rush job and not the proper evaluation of the inside and outside. Also, I find it interesting that roofers/chimney repair are not hand in hand.

Not sure how much slate tiles they deal with. I should have asked. They replaced no more than 20 tiles and that cost $1700. Their installation of the tiles leaves a copper clip that is not original to the house. The copper clip is very noticeable. It amazes me that this was not explained in the beginning. But, the roof is fixed and hopefully it will not leak. If you live in the city and have a slate roof, call Paul Saunders roofing. They are the go-to people for slate in the Fan.

I have nothing but praise for Hardesty Roofing. James Robertson is the Charlottesville representative and he was very reliable. He showed up for an estimate when he said he would and he always returned my e-mails and phone calls promptly. The price was much better than the other estimates I received for the same service. They were punctual and worked very hard to get my roof replaced in a day and a half because of a threat of rain. James even called me and alerted me to some pipe problems in the attic that need to be attended to that his workers found. He did not need to do that or explain to me what the problem was because it didn't affect the roof replacement, but he took the time to do it. I would highly recommend Hardesty Roofing.

The job was done in one day. All clean up was done the same day. I am very pleased with my roof, skylights and the job that was done. The office staff are absolutely wonderful to work with. They answered all my questions which helped me make important decisions about the job. Hardesty Roofing's 12-year labor warranty is way above industry standard. Sam Hardesty is an honest businessman and I have already recommended Hardesty Roofing to everyone I know.

I attempted to get Hardesty Roofing to give me an estimate for fixing/replacing part of our roof. Over a 3 week period I called over 5 times. I was repeatedly told that I was on the list and someone would call to set up a time to quote the roof soon. I talked to their central office and they were very pleasant....but no one would ever call me back with a specific time. I eventually gave up...and have never received a call

They did a great job and it was a great value. There were in and out in a few hours. I highly recommend this company.

This was the second roof that Hardesty had done for us (the first was on our previous house in 2000). We have been very happy both times. They are reliable and hard working. The dimensional shingle they put on our roof will last for about 40 yrs. They also installed a glass skylight b/c the old plastic one was clouded over. For ventilation, they installed the roof vents that run along the top and removed and sealed up old non-working attic fan per our instructions. Their crew finished in one and a half days. When we first met and they measured and sent a contract with the price, we gave them the Angie's list coupon which they happily deducted from the total. We were very pleased with workmanship and their professionalism.

Great experience. Mr. Hardesty called the same afternoon I left a message, then came out next day to give the estimate and drop off an information bookletThe price was great, about $500 less than other estimates. They worked our job in quickly because it was a relatively small job (small house). Very professional throughout. Easy process to accept the estimate and pay the invoice.

They were excellent. They were professional. They were on time, in fact a little bit early. The staff was courteous. They cleaned up all their mess. I have no complaints at all and everything was just perfect.

The company was responsive and helpful with all questions. I am very pleased and would recommend them to anyone.

We had the flashing around our kitchen skylight repaired. Great job, we will hire Harding Constructionj again.

We are very happy with the roofing jobs that were done on our house and garage. The both the roofing crew and gutter crew showed up when expected and were very professional.

The crew were scheduled to start on Monday, but were not able to work that day due to rain. They appeared promptly the next day and began work right away. The job took two full days. They removed the old shingles, replaced worn out plywood,and replaced two skylights. When they completed the work, they cleaned the area throroughly. The roof looks great and we can see through the skylights for the first time in 20 years. We had heavy rain the day after they finished and nothing leaked. Mr. Hardesty inspected the work the day after the job was finished and is sending the warranty documents . We were very pleased with the level of professionalism of the crew. We went to the office in Midlothian to sign the contract and to select the shingles. We were very pleased with the office staff and the communication with Mr. Hardesty. We have used this company in the past and would use them again. We highly recommend Hardesty Construction for roofing services.

Getting from start to finish is a struggle with this company. If I had a house that needed a new roof, I would give Hardesty Roofing the chance to compete for the work. On the plus side, the new roof looks great. Once the roofers showed up, the job went smoothly. Four roofers showed up at approx 740 AM and immediately got to work. They worked through the day, took one break and worked until nightfall. Second day, they showed up early and worked until they ran out of shingles. They did a very thorough clean up at the end of both days, no loud music, no cussing, no yelling, and they worked hard. Once the remaining shingles were delivered, the team returned and finished the roof within an hour. No complaints on the quality of the roof installation or the roofers. Many complaints on the company's communication skills. The owner completed the work estimate. He did an OK explaining the work and the various roofing options and guarantees. He didn't leave any samples which was OK since I had some from other vendors. I accepted the proposal by email and mail. I never received confirmation that they would do the work. It wasn't until I called in October (a month later) that I discovered a projected start date. They actually started a week later and did call a day ahead of time to let me know. A team showed up a day after the start date around 830 AM and debated doing the job because there was no dumpster on site and left. I called the company the next day to get a work status and was informed someone would be there the next day (Thursday). After that the work was completed. The company could have alleviated many of my complaints if they had communicated what they knew when they knew it. Don't assume I like being kept in the dark about the status of the work when i have pallets of shingles sitting in the driveway, a dumpster in my front yard and no idea when or who will show up to complete the roof. If you're working on a solution, just tell me that. I left messages on answering machines and heard promises of call backs. The work was done, everyone I spoke to was polite and knowledgeable, but more information is better for me.

When I called for an estimate for my existing roof and in progress screen porch being built, an appointment was set up. The person who showed up was prompt and spoke with me briefly. He brought a few brochures to pick out roofing colors and style, but didn't leave anything. When I received the estimate, I called the office to talk with him about the way he had written the estimate to make sure I understood it correctly. He was not in and I spoke to a man and explained why I wanted to talk with him. I also said that my neighbors had used them and they were very pleased. I waited for a week and never received any contact. I don't know wheter they didn't want my business or what. I thought it was very unprofessional, so I went with another roofing contractor. If I was going to be ignored because I had a question, I didn't want them working on my home.

The crew from Hardesty arrived on time as promised early in the morning and began a blitz removing my old roof. Before noon they had removed all my old roofing and had begun installing the new materials. They worked at a furious pace the rest of that day and didn't stop until it was almost too dark to see. The resumed working the next day and continued until they completed the job at around four PM. Their workmanship was outstanding, I believe my roof's apperance now is the finest in my cul-du-sac. The new skylights are so transparent that it is difficult to tell if there are any.

I called these guys to fix a flat roof on my porch. I've called a bunch of places around town and nobody wanted to deal with an asphalt and chip roof that was so small. They were doing a roof down the street from me and I called the number on the side of their truck. The price they quoted me I couldn't argue with. The number I provided is a rough estimate as it was a few months ago. Dealing with this company was painful. I had to keep calling them to get updates, they'd never call me. When they finally came out to do the work they "borrowed" a few of my buckets around the house without asking. Dumped what I had in those buckets on the ground and used them for whatever they needed and then just left them laying in the yard. I guess the real point is, I now have a working roof even though the workers could have had a bit more respect for the property they are working on.

The estimate was very reasonable. I felt like I had to follow up frequently to move things along. Work done was complete and as expected.

They did a really good job. They came out and they gave me a pretty good estimate. They cleaned up everything including the nails after they were done. They were done pretty much in a day. It worked out really well. I just saw the end result because I am not local. I liked the fact that it was clean and the fact that when I called them up, they responded the same day. After we agreed upon what the work was, they had the work done within a week. They gave me a time and then they showed up and did the work and they were done. They picked up all the waste shingles and they picked up all the nails. None of that was around my house. It was as if they had not even been there. If you saw the roof, it was clean. They did a really good job. I was pretty happy with that. I talked to 3 people and they had the lowest price. They probably are fair and they probably are quite competitive with everyone else doing that type of work. They are probably better to work with because that's what they do. I did talk to some folks who do roofing as part of other services that they provide, but Hardesty just does roofing as far as I can tell. Their prices were very competitive and they were actually the lowest bidder. I would have liked the price to be a little cheaper, but prices have gone up. I would use them again in the future and I would recommend them for other people to use.

Excellent overall experience. The Windsor Place West Architectural Committee required a roof of this high quality. Nate's Roofing has put on most of the roofs in the neighborhood, but his reputation on Angie's List is not good, and he quoted a much higher price, $18,000. Knowing what type roof I needed, I didn't want to spend time going back & forth from my downtown workplace to meet sales people at my house in the Far West End. A coworker gave me Hardesty's name, and I then emailed them, telling them what I was looking for. A Hardesty representative went to my house and measured, and then they emailed me the quote. We corresponded back & forth by email numerous times. Monica Hardesty provided recommendations and answers to all my questions, even had a representative ride by my house later to recommend a color and identify houses in the neighborhood with different colors of the Camelot roof. With the excellent drawing and measurements provided me by mail, I was able to go on the GAF website and using a picture of my house, apply the exact roof to create a picture of what my house would look like with the recommended color. Until the crew showed up to install, all of my communication was by email, which made it much easier for me. I would have appreciated a call to confirm the date the installation was to begin, but since I didn't get that, I emailed and got confirmation. On the start date, the crew showed up on time and the delivery truck arrived shortly, but no one came up to the door to greet me. The crew only spoke a few words of English. Manuel, the crew leader, arrived about an hour later, after the crew had set up. Evidently he runs more than one crew, so he cannot be at every one to start. Manuel answered all my questions, and I felt great about the job. The installation was all I could ask for. I can't say enough good about the hard-working crew that worked 11-12 hours a day to get the job done. They covered deck furniture, heat pumps, and all bushes. They were so much neater than other roofing crews I've seen. Instead of throwing the tear-off on the ground, they threw it directly into their truck. They cleaned up every day before leaving and chased trash blowing toward the neighbor's yard when asked. They are an A+ team. There was a bit of a communication break-down on getting the fans wired. Bob Williams was supposed to wire them, but left the company about that time. When he came, he wasn't clear on the extent of the job, but handled it anyway. Can't say enough good about him. He answered all my last minute questions and gave me a lot of additional information. Monica, Manuel and his hardworking crew, Bob Williams, all made this a very positive experience. I would definitely recommend them to my neighbors. Their price was good, and their work for me would rate a grade of 98 out of a 100.

They had the most complete estimate and they included a packet that explained all of the materials that would be used and included samples for all the different types of shingles. Out of the three companies I looked at, they were the most thorough.

Contacted company (along with two others for estimates). Estimate was completed within time promised and was very reasonable. Prior to signing contract, company representative met with me to explain estimate further, assist in selecting shingle most compatible with the home, and answer any questions I might have. He arrived on schedule and spent as much time as I needed to have all questions answered to my satisfaction. Workers arrived very promptly on date scheduled and completed reroofing within expected time frame. Workers were extremely professional, neat, and quickly and satisfactorily addressed a couple of concerns raised while they were working. They did an excellent job of cleaning up after the re-roofing was completed. Got exactly what I was promised within the expected time frame. Resulting roof looks beautiful and I have not experienced any problems.
