Initially, we thought they were an amazing company. In fact, I recommended them to a few friends. They came out on time and finished the work promptly. We were pleased with the inside electrical work. This spring, we got our camper ready to go out. We noticed that some of the electrical wasn't working properly so we brought it to the RV repair shop. They told us that the plug we had used was twice the required amps. This surprised us because Family Electric had put in the plug that past fall. We called Lowes because they were the ones that contracted with Family Electric (FE). FE and Lowes came out to the house and immediately the owner denied any responsibility for the mistake. Apparently the plug could have two different amps running to it - ok, makes sense but why didn't they ask us which one if they were confused? I was home the entire time, or my husband was. And the owner refused to take the 20-30 minutes required to fix the problem. But it gets worse. We turned our sprinkler system on a month or so after that. Not all of the sprinklers came on so we called an irrigation company to look at the system. Turns out FE had cut the line when the ran cables out to the garage. Never mentioned it to us, Lowes, or the contractor, just put on electrical tape and buried the line. And refused to pay for any damages or repairs.
Description of Work: Ran electric to detached garage, put in ceiling fans, installed dining room lights, and lights in master closet

Response from Family Electric Inc
This is a situation where the owner hired Lowes to perform work. Lowes hired an approved GC and that GC hired Family Electric( FE), a Lowes approved sub-contractor.This was not an Angies job! Lowes came out along with the GC and FE to review the customers complaint about the RV trailer.Lowes DENIED the request for fixing the problem along with the GC and FE.The customer had provided incorrect information to Lowes and as a result, the Lowes work order was prepared according to the customer information and that caused the issue. In todays world, the internet allows anyone to bash people or companies and take no responsibilty themselves for their errors. This is the case here! As to the irrigation issue, the customer is correct in that in digging the trench from the house to the garage for additional electric feeds, we unfortunately hit the irrigation line and our employee attempted to fix it and did not inform the homeowner. He should have! We and the GC accepted responsibility for the mistake and paid to repair it.Not to absolve us,but the homeowner failed to inform us as to the irrigation line location. Likewise the homwowners did not tell you that they tried to have our employees perform work that was not part of the contract nor did they explain that on the side they told us it was not our fault, and when the issue is settled with Lowes, they wanted more work done.Lastly, all our communication was with the husband not the writer above. It is time for people to own up to mistakes!!

Family Electric came out promptly after calling for an estimate and once we accepted their estimate, they kept in contact with us concerning a delay in getting all of the part and rescheduling when the work was to be done. Their crew showed up at the appointed time even though there was a snow storm the previous day and not all the neighborhood roads were passable. They completed the installation of the track lighting and conversion of the outlet within three hours and cleaned up their workspace. They also went into the crawl space and confirmed that the electrical connections to the ventilation system were OK. I would definitely call on Family Electric for my needs in the future.
Description of Work: In a home office, installed track lighting and made "hot" a wall outlet previously controlled by a wall switch. In addition, checked out the electrical connections to a crawl space humidity removal system.

FE was subcontracted by Kitchen Doctors (who are a pleasure to work with), rather than chosen by me. Linda, on telephone, was unfailingly pleasant and responsive. Steve, the owner, came to plan the job, arrived on time, was professional, and provided estimates promptly. All work appears to have been done neatly and so far as I can tell expertly. Communications were poor in 3 areas, however, hence the C's. Initially FE gave an estimate directly to Kitchen Doctors, as originally planned. I considered dealing with them directly, so asked them to send an estimate to me. That estimate was several hundred dollars higher, so I advised Linda to go ahead with the original quote with Kitchen Doctors, and I advised KD of the same, and both agreed. I did not sign any proposal. Now FE tells me they expect me to pay my estimate directly. On my pre-job walk through with Steve. we thought a cabinet would encroach on an existing switch-plate necessitating its change to a less convenient location. It turned out not to be necessary to move it, and KD crew was working alongside the FE crew and advised them that movement was not necessary, but FE crew stated it was on their work order so they were going ahead with it. I was charged for work that didn't need doing, and have an inconveniently located switch. Steve has lectured me on giving accurate information and accepting responsibility, stating that what is said on the walk through, and written on the estimate, is not subject to change. Maybe in an ideal world, but in my real world I tell him my understanding of the need, and if that turns out to be wrong a simple phone call can resolve it. Any inumber of other suppliers and contractors seem to have no trouble with that kind of flexibility. So this is me accepting responsibility for the information I gave on a walk through, and paying for it, with a warning to the reader to be VERY sure of each detail of your job description with this group. On the walk through I specified reostats for two circuits, and failed to notice the lack of any mention of it in the estimate. Not only did I get no reostats, but an exixting reostat was removed from another circuit. OK, again I should have really read the fine print--can't assume anything here. No big catasrophes here, just talking about little miscommunications that most companies would take in stride, but Steve really felt the need to be pretty hard line in response. Having real a lot of "A" ratings on FE I had high hopes for this one. Alas Best regards to all. Bob

I've used them twice a year or so and they were very good. When they say were coming at a certain time and they were here then. The quality of their work is good. It's hard to tell about electrical installation if it was good or bad but everything works now. They were very clean. They cleaned up whatever wire crumblings or anything they had. They cleaned up after themselves. I thought that was excellent part of it. I liked the way they handle the problem. There were two of them. I don't have anything to compare the price to so I think it's okay. They were on time.

My daughter needed an electrician to install a ceiling fan. I looked on Angies list for one that had A ratings. Dustin and David got the job done. There was no light fixture already there so they had to start from scratch. Also installed an outlet. My son-in-law said they did a good job. Will use them again!!

Called me back timely when I first left a message. Gave me a reasonable quote over the phone since they were just small jobs. They showed up on time. I had originally asked them to quote on two items. When they got here, I realized I had a third issue. They fixed all three issues and still stayed well within the estimate. This is the first vendor I've used from Angie's list. Based on this experience, I have already called two others vendors that I found on Angie's list.

They were absolutely wonderful! I asked them to do a couple things, and they did several! I asked the them to install a new light fixture on the outside of my basement door. He told me he couldn’t do it because the wood behind the siding wouldn’t hold the light due to the wood being damaged. That one little thing led us to discover there were termites. Then we had to go through the treatment for termites so I am very thankful they went through the effort to tell me about the wood, otherwise we would have never known. They were professional and fast; they were just great! They gave us a great price for the work. They went above and beyond!

Family Electric had to work with the person installing my sauna and it worked out beautifully because they accommodated the schedule at the last minute after telling me it's best I not schedule it at the last minute. My initial call was handled promptly and professionally. Steve met at the location at the scheduled time, he was friendly and professional and e-mailed me an estimate promptly. I thought the price was appropriate for the job to be done. On the day the work was to be done, the electrian arrived on time. I was surprised he arrived wearing shorts and flip flops. He did change to tennis shoes before starting the work. The job took about six hours and he worked steadily with only a short break for lunch. I do plan to use Family Electric again for any work I need done on this property. I was well pleased with the whole experience.

They installed a whole house back up generator. They also installed a whole house surge protector. He did not try to sell me things I did not need. He did a very reliable and reasonable job. Due to my scheduling he really worked around that for me. He was very upfront with me too; he accidentally put in a surge protector that he did not intend to do and came back to install the correct one. The work looks good. What I also like is he actually took the time and made sure to let me know the pros and cons and also to make sure that I understood everything. I had to coordinate my home owners association landscaping. They were doing this around the same time. He was good to make sure that his narrow window fell into that deadline. I will be using him for at least the next 2 years. His estimate was fair and reasonable, we ran into some structural issues, there were no extra charges and he took care of that.

When I called to make an appointment with the Company, I received a phone call the next day rather than the same day to have them give me an estimate as to the work needed to be completed. He did arrive at my house on-time to give me a written estimate and the scope of work needed to complete the tasks. When the appointment date and time was agreed upon, they arrived at my house on-time. First, they installed the baseboard heater and wall thermostat. The issue they ran into was they had to cut out another hole in the wall in order to wire the wall thermostat. However, this issue was not fixed by them since my house is old and has plaster walls; only had drywall repair kits in the vehicle. Therefore, they told me I had to repair the hole in the wall which I have not had time to fix as of this posting. Second, they removed the old transformer underneath the kitchen sink and then rewired to install an outlet underneath the sink. They tested the outlets to make sure they are live. The total time to complete tasks was about 3 hours.

Family Electric were responsive and did good work. The estimate was given to run a new wire in a pipe from the post to the house and trench the whole way. One third the way the problem was found and the wire was spliced. They asked for the same amount of money as the estimate. Total amount of work was less than 3 hours. If I had known that they will charge the same I would have asked to run a new wire all the way and end up with a better result. I will not use them again.

We were requested to repair a malfunctioning light and did so on time and promptly. We are sorry the customer felt like he was slighted in how it was repaired. He was provided a window of time to show up for the job and unfortunately, the prior jobs ran longer than anticipated-somewhat out of our control due to customer additions, our mistake in estimating how long a given job will take, etc. We certainly apologize for such .For those reading our reviews, please read other reviews to gain a proper perspective of our work.
