IT WAS TERRIBLE AND I NEVER WANT TO DEAL WITH THAT MAN AGAIN

This remodel commenced on Jan. 23, 2008 and was mostly completed by the middle of February. Mr.Charlie Bernhardt is fortunate to have some talented people working in his shop. The quality of the cabinet construction was quite good. Unfortunately, Mr. Bernhardt destroys his own company s reputation. He was very difficult to work with. His shop drawings were useless as they turned out to be a generic computer generated program which did not actually represent our layout. He was forgetful, vague and often hard to communicate with. I gave him pictures from magazines and wrote notes to confirm conversations and decisions we made because he had such a proclivity to remember things differently from me. I was fortunate to have had the help of an outside interior designer, as Bernhardt did not offer any good design ideas. He was, however, quick to present me with change orders if I asked for something outside of our contract price. There were some problems and issues along the way, most of which would have been resolved and forgotten at the end of the job were it not for the fact that Mr. Bernhardt did not fulfill all the work specified in the contract. One of the last things needed to be completed was the installation of strip lighting in a set of glass cabinets. When the electrician came to do the installation, the lights were completely inappropriate and would not even fit in the space available to accommodate the lights. I was told to pick out something that I liked, but when I did this he was unhappy because it was more expensive. The lights were, however, ordered sometime in April. In July he sent me a letter outlining a list of overages in electrical work he said was not included in the contract. I took issue with most of these changes and responded by letter. I ve not heard back from him. Due to a series of problems with the light order, they had still not arrived in October when I received a call from the light supplier telling me Bernhardt was refusing to pay for them and they were canceling the order. This glass cabinet had been wired during construction to accommodate the interior lights. I have wires that hang below the cabinets that I don t know what to do with. In addition to this issue, sometime during the summer the cabinet doors started to stick and needed adjustment. I made numerous calls to Bernhardt but was unable to get them to send anyone to correct the problem. It is so unfortunate that Charlie Bernhardt is willing to sacrifice his reputation and the recommendation of a client over approximately $250 which is roughly the additional expense of the light fixture. It would have taken so little on his part to have made right so many wrongs experienced throughout this job.

We were calling the company every other day to get status, as the house they were working on was un-inhabited at the time. They forgot to order items that we had picked out months previously that delayed the install. They did not show up after they scheduled a time to come out to the house so that my wife could be there to let them in (45 minute drive one way). My wife and I were paying Bernhardt & Taylor to manage the project, but she and I ended up managing the project, timing, schedules, it was a real mess.

Bernhardt Taylor did an excellent job on our bathrooms and powder room. They installed beautiful cabinetry in all the rooms. They were very organized in contracting the electrical plumbing and flooring companies. The rooms all look great. They were done ahead of schedule. I would recommend them to others.

We really loved the service here because they were responsive and took all of the measurements correctly and thoroughly explained themselves very well and did a great job of putting everything in. It fit perfectly and just looked so wonderful. I was very satisfied with the work and enjoyed all of the work that was done.

Contractor delayed project for 18 weeks without an explanation. Quality of the stain on the cabinets is poor(a lot of over-spray). Contractor did not correct. Contractor did not report our payments. We were reported to a credit agency even though we had paid and we have spent the last year correcting the damage on our credit reports.
