My wife and I had a great experience dealing with Richards’ Homes and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for an honest experienced builder that takes great pride in their work. We built a second home on a mountain side in Front Royal so we were not able to visit as often as we would have liked to see the progress being made. But we were always pleased with the craftsmanship and the progress when we visited. The process was smooth with just a few hiccups along the way. Mr. Richard treated my home as if it was his own making sure everything was done correctly. At times, I felt like his trades and subs often went above and beyond and gave me the best service possible. Overall, we are very pleased with the workmanship and the completed product exceeded all of our expectations. Thank you for the beautiful new home, we are very proud of it. It is everything we wanted!

Home is large, >4,000 SF on 5 acres. Rough ins are complete, sheet rock is taped and drying, elevator is being installed. Completion expected early in 2020. He uses excellent subs and the work has been done expertly. This project has been a challenge due to advanced construction techniques, European style windows and an advanced HVAC system. Ground breaking was delayed over 6 months due a RAIN. I do wish he kept me better informed on schedules. He uses a flip phone so text responses seldom happen. He seams very honest and trust worthy.
Description of Work: Project ongoing. General Contractor for construction of a custom home.
It went really really well. Mr. Richards did great work and completed the project on time and on budget. He handled everything once we had a plan we approved. It was great. I would definitely recommend him. We have moved to another state and have not had a good experience, I really wish Mr. Richards were here. I would hire him in a heart beat!

We needed a general contractor to take over from Clayton homes, to get our pre manufactured home installed on our land. To that end, I interviewed many general contractors, trying to get someone to say they'd take over the project, since Clayton homes refused to finish the project. Mr. Richards was the only person to step up and say that he'd do it, when no one else would. He even gave me a price estimate to take to our lender. That said, communicating with him was difficult. Apparently I'd caught him on vacation the first time I called, so it was a good one to two weeks after I'd started taking calls from other contractors before he phoned me back at all. And then when we met in person, I found him to be a little confrontational in his communication approach- brusque and laconic.. I'm pretty sure he was competent and knew what he was talking about, but even if the project had gone forward, I think we would have continued to have problems communicating with each other. Ultimately the project did not go forward, though that was not Mr. Richard's fault. This year, I've moved on to a different home building project entirely, and have been interviewing other builders, but have not called Mr. Richards back. That is because, as I found out, if you don't feel comfortable with your builder, and you have problems communicating with them from the start, it's not going to get any better once you get a few months in. I think it's really important that your home builder share your vision for your house, be able to see it finished in their minds, too; and maybe even get a little excited about it. Because if their heart isn't in it as a home builder, that will inevitably show in their work, and you won't end up being happy with what you pay for.

Just noticed this degrading review, and I am surprised that Angie's List allowed it to be published. I never performed any work for this customer, but I did spend time consulting, offering suggestions for them, and giving them multiple hours of me working up an estimate for their job (like I do for so many people). Needless to say, I am truly confused as to how someone would take the time to write this, and spill their unfortunate frustrations out on me and my company, Richards' Homes. I will be calling to straighten out this false accusation after the holiday. I am truly sorry they felt the necessity to write a bad review, when NO work was performed for them whatsoever.

It went great. Everyone was on time. Everyone did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it. Every single work crew were professional and were so kind. The finished garage is beautiful. More than I was hoping for. Both cars have plenty of room and I have enough room for a work area and all my tools. I would highly recommend him!

We had searched for almost a year for a reputable home builder for our forever home. We met with several great and reputable builders, but many were over our budget or had conditions such as requiring us to stay away for a period of time, or allowing them to make decisions without our input, that we just could not live with. We found Daniel Richards on Angie's list. When we met with him and explained our new home plans (which many builders thought were not possible or had 'never been done that way before'), Daniel said we would work together to make it happen. And that is exactly what he did. He worked with us through the whole process . He communicated with us through email and phone as we carried on with our busy work schedules. But, we wanted to be involved, and Daniel allowed us to be as involved as we felt we needed to be, sometimes slowing down the progress so that we could make informed decisions, but in the end, getting the custom home of our dreams. We were also very impressed with the quality of Daniel's subcontractor team - the framing and trim guys (Thompson's Home Improvement) were absolutely outstanding. We couldn't believe how fast they installed the siding, built the deck, framed our windows and doors, installed custom cabinets and trimmed out the home interior! Everything that Ronnie and Bryan did was professionally done and top quality. We can't thank them enough. The wallboard guys did an amazing job, and the paint 'guy' was very meticulous and detailed. The electrician was a God Send (Halbach Electric) - working weekends to put in the endless number of sconces and pot lights up on our twenty feet high cathedral ceilings. Through all of his work, the electrician managed to find time to call us and give us advice on our lighting, like our kitchen island and spot lights over our sink - he thought of every detail and because of him as his crew, our home looks beautiful. The plumbing was a difficult job, given the layout and material we used for our home, but Gene's plumbing came through. ...and many more great subs.... Daniel's professionalism and kind demeanor helped us successfully get through this daunting construction project. Our custom home was a challenge but we could not have built it without Daniel Richards and his subcontractor team.

Daniel was the best choice for this job. He was always available when we needed him and he constantly worked on the job until it was complete. He kept us up to date with his progress. Daniel offered us design advice on our basement. This was a blessing. We gained so much extra space with his creativity. We had little expectations for our small unfinished basement but after Daniel was finished we could not believe how much livable space he created. He even added an extra closet that we did not even consider. This was great for extra storage. I would definitely recommend Daniel for any project small or large. He truly has a passion for his job and his customers.

Started out well, but miscommunication occurred frequently. A lot of the work was sub-contracted out and some of the work wasn't done well, the right way or even completed. Small window had to be moved a couple of inches and instead of putting any siding or anything over the exposed wood it was just left exposed. Contractor complained because we wanted the bathroom painted two colors and said he wasn't aware we wanted two colors. Sub-contractors for removing/re-installing drywall and the plumbers did excellent work. Painting isn't great for a professional job. Communication issues led to workers showing up on days we didn't expect, then not showing up on days we expected, so that wasn't a pleasant experience.

Well, I really don't know what to say as I already responded and then customer changed comments and ratings. I was always told that you can't please everybody, I always try. I am just flabbergasted and amazed about this! Bathroom remodels do take long. We started during the Holidays of 2014 and finished in January. There was a lot of communication issues! showing up over a dozen times with no way of getting in because of the customer forgetting to leave a key out or the door open was a major one. We @ Richards' Homes, always kept informing of the going on. So, to say the least, with the customer letting me know that it was a job well done at the completion, only to give this review 6 months later, kind of shocked me.

Description of Work: He arrived on time to give me an estimate on an addition to my home. I decided it wasn't worth the money or trouble to put it in. My home sat on a steep incline and the only good place to put it was over the septic system, which would have to be removed. He was very honest and professional. I would definitely use him if another project comes up.

We hired Daniel based on reviews he had on Angie's List and we were not disappointed! We're blown away at how great he is. He and the sub-contractors he used were all very professional, respectful of our home and property, timely and just a great group of tradesman. We now have people we can count on for any of our future needs. The designer he sent us to was just what we needed, and extremely patient with us thru all the decision making. What was done? We blew out a wall between the kitchen/dining room and our living area, moved and replaced both a sliding glass door and window (the window was replaced with a larger window) which necessitated the removal of the vinyl siding and sheathing, tore out all the cabinets, fixed a bad section of subfloor, then rebuilt everything putting in even more cabinets, an island, lots of lighting (including ribbon under cabinet LED lights - simply great!) Through it all Daniel kept us informed about what was going on, what was coming next and did a great job of tracking and resolving any issues that came up. He did the new cabinet install himself and did meticulous work getting the cabinets to align properly to give a seamless appearance. When all was done, the price we paid was what he proposed in the beginning - no surprises. Would we hire Daniel again in the future - in a heartbeat!!! If I can figure where and how to upload a picture of the final product, I'll do that. Thank you Daniel, Angie's List, and all the others that submitted reviews that took us to Daniel!

My girlfriend and I were in the process of buying a new to us house( actually a 1940's house) that was foreclosed and wanted to get a few things done to it since we got it cheap. The kitchen remodel was the original reason I called Mr. Richards. I had actually checked with 4 different options and chose one other one before him. The other one treated me like an idiot and after 2 weeks of dealing with that, I decided to give Richards homes a chance. I am so glad I did. Mr. Richards is a very nice and respectable man. He hired professional people to do any work he couldn't do himself and fixed any imperfections that we noticed. Anything that we weren't happy with, which wasn't much, he would talk to us and figure out the best solution to solve the problem. The original Kitchen was very cramped (narrow and long) with a pantry that took up a lot of space. The stove was in the corner and when you opened it it scratched the wall. The whole room only had 2 electric outlets for normal use, one for the stove, microwave and one for the refrigerator. It also only had maybe 10 sqft of counter top space. Mr. Richards used my rough draft of a remodel and took it to a cabinet/granite place to send me a draft of what we could do with our kitchen. After a few adjustments we were happy with what we could do. In the remodel, we decided to demo the pantry, swap the stove and dishwasher, and make the counters make a U shape on the right wall that came out into the doorway making a bar. We also made that bar extend into the dinning room so we could put bar stools under it and have a breakfast bar. This gave us over 35sqft of counter top space. When the pantry was removed we noticed the light that was in the pantry would be in a weird place. Mr. Richards asked his electrician to tie it into the original kitchen switch and center the light with the original light so we would have double the light in the kitchen. The electrician also wired the whole room up to code, which gave us 7 outlets plus one out on the end of the bar. He also rewired the stove, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator. We also had to have our floors redone in the kitchen. The kitchen had tile, over 2 layers of linoleum, over hardwood flooring. He stripped the floors back to the hardwood, which turned out to be some expensive pine flooring, and had a professional come in to sand, polish and reseal the floors. The roof project was actually added late to Richards Homes, because I had another company lined up to do this and they backed out on me at the last minute. The other company actually told me that it wasn't worth the time to fill out the renovation paperwork to do this job. They told me this 3 weeks before I closed on my new house. I contacted Mr. Richards (who was already lined up to remodel my kitchen) and asked him if there was anyway he could do my roof for me. In less than a week he had everything worked out to have my roof done and for $1000 cheaper. I couldn't ask for anything more. So we decided to go ahead and redo the roof. Which only had about 2 years left on it. Mr. Richards didn't fix this himself, since the roof is very steep. He had a very reliable and cheap company that he trusted to do this work for me. The guys that came to do the job were very nice and worked really hard. They picked up all there trash before they left every day. They had the old shingles torn off and had the new ones on with drip edge in less than 3 days. Mr. Richards decided to leave me the left over drip edges(3-4 pieces) and 3 extra bags of shingles, which will be really nice if i ever have to fix anything down the road. It will also help because I'm gonna have to redo the garage roof one day. We are glad we decided to give Richards' Homes, LLC a chance. The roof turned out great and our kitchen came out even better than we had hoped for. Mr. Richards was more than willing to make sure we were happy with everything. He even let me borrow his wet tile saw so I could install a glass/stone back splash. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

The new sun-room has a cathedral ceiling, Andersen windows on 3 sides, hickory tongue-and-groove wood floors, and the walls are finished in natural cedar. The sun-room looks and works great! I personally did a lot of the design work, particularly with the windows, with the design engineer filling in the structural details. I think this approach saved us a lot of money, plus it gave us exactly what we wanted. Dan is reliable and punctual himself, but also did a great job hiring reliable, experienced subcontractors -- very important considering that they do most of the actual work. I would certainly hire Dan again (and, in fact, we did).

ABSOLUTELY the best contractor to have..completely trustworthy and hires only the best subcontractors. Daniel had the key to the basement and never once did I worry about the door not being locked when he was done. Daniel kept me informed every step of the way... I am a very happy with this renovation.... The work (to me) was done quickly and in a quality manner....
Description of Work: Daniel completely demo'd my basement (large one too) removed all moldy paneling and trim..Drylok'd the walls and removed the old tile flooring. I had the electrical panel upgraded and some lights, garage door opener receptacle added. I had sewer lines moved and replaced. Daniel has reframed the basement and when I decide what I want to put back, Daniel WILL be the one to do it, along with replacing old basement windows I also had Daniel add insulation to my attic..

We feel so fortunate and lucky to have found Daniel Richards!! His honesty, integrity and genuine concern for doing the job correctly, on budget and to schedule (our completion was ahead of schedule in spite of a week of rain!) impressed us and gave us great confidence in Daniel's abilities and judgement. Daniel has a real eye and creative talent for getting the small and big things done correctly and sees when they are not (yet offers ideas to solve problems). He listens to you! This addition was challenging because we were "living on the same floor" as all the construction and we had no idea what to expect. What we found was a freind whose subcontractors also became freinds! I would never have imagined it. Wonderful people with respect for us, our home and qaulity of the work they performed--we could not have asked for more. We will actually miss them!! (OK--maybe not the noise and dust ;) We will ask Daniel to help us with future projects without question.
Description of Work: We put on an addition (new family room) where there was once an old porch, added a first floor laundry room and a new deck, and opened up three walls to add a breakfast bar to the kitchen and a smooth flow between all rooms. Work included demolition, excavation, framing,, flooring, painting and all electrical and plumbing needed. We added electrical work in other parts of the house to the original plan and added an extra bedroom to the painting schedule.

I got several estimates in March 2011, and Richards' Homes was the least expensive. Since I had previously worked with them, I also had a high confidence in the quality of the work to be performed. And I was right...They did a wonderful job! The work is solid and matches the house perfectly. I am very impressed with their responsiveness and turn-around time. And the quality of the work is top rate. I would strongly recommend this company for any of your building or renovation needs!
Description of Work: Richard's Homes did a complete renovation of my home in 2010, and I had them come back out to do a 10x12 shed this year. The renovation was so extensive that the house went down to only 3 exterior walls. They did the renovation and 2 small additions in the space of 4 months! It was amazing. This year, I had the shed added to the side of the house. It had to go over a drain gully, so it is a platform shed on posts about 1' off the ground. And a lot bigger than I imagined with the 8' tall walls! I love it!

The whole project was amazing when we did have an issue Mr Richard's was quick to address it and have it fixed to our liking. At one point Mr. Richard's noticed a corner wall that the drywall hangers had made crooked and he took the initiative to have it fixed without a word from us, in fact, he noticed it first. Very pleased with all the workers that he hired. Mr. Richard installed my wood floors himself and they are beautiful. He also installed my kitchen cabinets and we love them. Great job.
Description of Work: We added on 1400 sf and a garage, new roof for the whole house, remodeled our kitchen, Mr Richards role was as GC but he also did much of the work himself. The care and attention to detail is what impressed me the most. He is incredible honest as well. He was a pleasure to work with on our project and I would highly recommend him to anyone who wanted a job well done. We are extremely happy with our new part of the house.
