Description of Work: The Log Doctor's Chester, Virginia Store ordered a gas fireplace insert for me after a technician had taken the measurements of my fireplace. The cover plate for the unit ordered did not completely cover my fireplace opening. Upon calling the Owner (Sherry Snow) at the Mechanicsville, Virginia Store, the owner placed the blame for the order not being correct on me, although the Sales Person at the Chester Store had the measurements prior to placing the order. | |We had the Owner order a different gas fireplace insert for us at an additional cost of $250.00. When the technician installed the gas insert, he did not stay to ensure that the unit was functioning properly and the flame never came up like it was advertised, nor did the blower work (it would only come on after about an hour and only run for 5 minutes). We contacted the Technician the same day (January 23, 2014) and asked that he come back and check out the gas insert; the Technician said that he would come back Saturday morning, January 24th, to check out the unit. However, he did not come back Saturday morning, nor did he call us. Because of this, we contacted the Chester Store Salesperson and asked that he contact the Technician to have him come and check out the gas insert. Needless to say, the Technician did not show up at all on Saturday. On Monday, January 26th, I drove to the Mechanicsville Store and spoke with the Owner (Sherry Snow) and told her that the unit was not operating correctly and that I wanted the Technician to come back and repair the unit. | |At first Sherry wanted to schedule the technician to come back to my house on January 29th, but another Technician in the Store who had overheard our conversation said that the Technician in Chester could come by my house that day (Monday, January 26th) since I was already off work. Sherry then agreed to call the other Technician and have him come to my house in the afternoon. | |The Technician arrived at my house shortly after I got home. He had to replace a component on the gas insert and ensured that the flame was operating properly; he also stayed to ensure that the fan was operating correctly. | |After this, I contacted Sherry Snow (January 26th) and asked that she contact the Chesterfield County Building Inspector's office and schedule them to come by my house for the gas insert's final inspection on February 9th. Ms. Snow said that she would set up the appointment; however, when I checked with the Chesterfield County Building Inspector's office the morning of February 9th to get an idea of when the Inspector would be coming by, I was told that The Log Doctor had not scheduled my gas insert for the final inspection. The Building Inspector's Customer Service unit allowed me to schedule the appointment for this Wednesday (February 11th). | |The customer service I received from the Log Doctor staff was sub-par and the Owner did not appear to be concerned with making my purchase experience satisfactory. I would definitely not recommend this company to anyone else!

Description of Work: First, the technician checked all electronic units in the fireplace to determine which one was defective. Lucky for me none of the units were defective therefore, he cleaned and adjusted the units and ensured all units were set to specs.

Description of Work: Excellent service. Our first experience with the log doctor was in Fall 2011. When we purchased our home our non-vented fireplace in the master bedroom was so sooty, you could barely see the flames through the glass. The log doctor came on a Saturday morning. He was timely, cleaned the glass panes of the fireplace, explained that the soot was caused by a the logs blocking the burner, re-arranged the logs, and was very polite throughout. So- when the gas company was concerned with the soot in our vented fireplace downstairs and refused to light our pilot lights, we called the log doctor again. This time, they were a little bit late, but again the log doctor came in, explained that my vented logs were supposed to soot, vacuumed the logs anyway, and proceeded to open my gas propane take and try to light the pilot. Lighting the pilot was going to take a long time because we had run out of gas. However, after spending a significant amount of time trying to light the pilot, the log doctor started to investigate to see what may be causing the problem. After opening the gas line and evaluating my gas pipes, he concluded that my lines were clogged. He suggested I call the gas company or a plumber to clear the pipes of any obstructions. He closed the propane tank and after I paid him, he left. I was very pleased because I understood everything that was happening with my fireplace as he continued to work.

Description of Work: Our gas log fireplace was not turning on. The technician diagnised the problem and replaced some corroded connections.
