The owner/contractor of Hard Core Construction, Alan Cramer, provided several professional references - all of whom gave stellar, glowing recommendations. The job started off okay after giving him the $2500 deposit. After about a month, it became difficult to get him out to do the next step. Over a dozen times, he said he would be there on a certain date and neither showed up nor bothered calling to excuse himself or schedule another date. Worse yet, he started demanding money that was ahead of the draws to be paid as scheduled on the contract he wrote and had me sign. The next draw due him was $2000 at sheetrock hanging; and he demanded $1500 even though his completed work was not even ready for sheetrock to be hung. When I did not pay it, he called me about 8 or 10 times one day and left a message on my phone that if I walked away from the job he would "get some boys to come take care of me." I regret that I did not fire him after that experience. I agreed to let him come finish the job after he sent his wife to placate me. From then on he would spend about 3 to 6 hours on the job each week. I paid him another $1000 ahead of draw schedule as he begged for a little "cash flow." Many, many efforts were made by me to get him to finish the job and he could not be bothered even though I was paid ahead. With only about 85% of the job being completed, I finally fired him and am now searching for someone else to complete a job which has drug out for over 6 months.
