Loayes Painting

Contacted this company via Angies list. The response was relatively quick, within 24 hours. Requested an estimate, recieved a response "From his Droid" (which I did not find to be very professional) asking if I could do a certain time on Saturday, I responded yes, after all the positive feedback from Angie's List I figured it would be worth it. Edwin (the representative from the company who contacted me) proceeded to change the appointment time once, and then I woke up Saturday morning to a voicemail from the previous night at 10:30pm telling me he would not be able to make the appointment at all. I wasn't upset, nor did I really care, as painting contractors are a dime a dozen - I was just surprized at the lack of professionalism in punctuality and correspondance, and figured that with the size and relatively non-complex nature of the job, there would have been a higher degree of responsiveness.

Edwin arrived on Thursday for our estimate and, because another job was delayed he was able to start the very next day and complete it the following day. The work was outstanding - my husband likes to say the ceilings now look so good you don't even notice them! On both days the workers were punctual and polite, and the site was left very clean. I would not hesitate to hire them again or to recommend them to others.

They arrived on time, did the work as contracted and finished on time. Application of effort by the painters was above and beyond! He was able to suggest and describe emendations that we found very helpful.

How'd it go overall? Perfectly.

The owner and his two staff members arrived precisely at 8:00 am as promised. They put down drop clothes throughout the house leading to the two bedrooms they were hired to paint. They covered the furniture, patched, sanded, washed and vacuumed the walls before starting. They did a beautiful job, painting the ceiling, trim, and bedrooms. The job was scheduled to take two days but they finished it, albeit after 8:00 pm, in one day, which was fine with us. We are very pleased with the quality of their work.

I would just say that you need to have a list and check the list. In case if they get rushed in the end, they might forget to do something. They are perfectly willing to admit that and pick that up for the next time. They are coming to do some work; I have just not decided the date.

Our experience was great from start to finish. We were able to set up an appointment for an estimate within a few days and received the estimate quickly. The estimate was very reasonable and they were able to get the work done in a very timely, professional manner. They have great customer service. Plus, my husband is very, very picky and he thought they did a great job! The walls were a mess with holes and nails but you would never be able to tell. We highly recommend them!

Edwin (the point man) was responsive and easy to work with. Although he did promise to get the job done in 6 days as opposed to the 11 that it took, we were happy with the work overall. His workers work very hard and are very skilled at drywalling. They promised to clean up after themselves but left quite a mess which took a few weeks for me to thoroughly clean up. I would hire them again b/c they are a good company overall. One of the more professional companies I've encountered.

Beningo was prompt with his response to my request for an estimate - within a couple of days he had a visited and gave me an estimate with a promise to complete all in 3 days (I had guests coming for the weekend, so it needed to finished). His crew was prompt every day, and did a fantastic job. Beningo came over on the last day to fix the touch ups that were needed. I will definitely use them again, and highly recommened their services.

Excellent customer service - punctual, flexible (I changed the date on them multiple times), and the work was done very well.

The owner personally supervised the work with consummate professionalism, punctual results, outstanding quality and a fair price, all the time playing it straight with me.

Edwin came to our house for a free estimate. He is very responsive and professional. His quote is reasonable and quite competitive. His crew started work the next day after we accepted his quote. They have been always punctual. They make sure the hard-wood floor was well covered. Everything goes smoothly. They finished the work just like what we want and right on time. There was not a single problem during the entire process. Whenever I have a question or two, Edwin is just a call away and ready to help us. He is easy to work with and has always been polite. I would definitely recommend Edwin and his team to everyone and will hire them again for future painting job.

Our project was hampered a great deal by the failure of the general contractor's workers to timely complete portions of their tasks. Thus, Edwin Loayes's crew had to do a lot of working around others and postpone some of their work until the other contractors were through. They did the job they were contracted to do plus quite a few other tasks that cropped up during this period such as re-painting portions of our basement apartment, replacing the entire basement apartment ceiling, and doing carpentry work that the general contractor's workers overlooked or had done incorrectly.

It was great. I had checked their feedback and it was good. They did great work and they had the lowest price. I called 3 companies and the next cheapest was $400 more. They came out the same day and walked me through the whole thing and showed me what needed to be done. They did the work in less than a day.

Their estimate was not the most competitive but I liked their representatives that came out and what they were suggesting to do. Their estimate was for $7000. I went through the overall rating on them on Angie's List but I did not get into the reviews that much. I liked their approach and the fact that they came out. Many service providers would actually promise that they would come out but never would. They came out on time and gave me the estimate on time. Their estimate was very descriptive. They were individual contractors. The reason that I did not go into the negotiations with them was because the service provider that I decided to go ahead with came with a good offer on many of those jobs. The bank that was financing was asking me to go with a general contractor. So, I did not have the opportunity to negotiate with the individual contractors. Hence, I have their very first estimate without actually working with them or negotiating with them past their first estimate. My disapproval was of their price which was not the most competitive but also it was not the worst price. I took estimates from a couple of other service providers as well. I would be working with another service provider. I chose them because they were general contractors and they would be taking over most of the work.

I'm perplexed. I was able to contact Binigno Loayes to set up an estimate. He confirmed by email, but did not show at the scheduled time. No big deal, so I called him. He made it to the house that night, surveyed each room per the written description I had provided, asking many questions and assuring me I'd have an estimate the next day. So I waited several days but did want the work begun as soon a** possible. I sent Mr. Loayes an email asking about his estimate. I considered calling, but I liked the proposals of the other painters who I talked to, so I just figured he had too much work. Is an email or quick phone call too much to ask of a person who went through the trouble spending about 45 min estimating the job. Good reports on Angie's list, but poor communication for a decent sized job.

Benigno Loayes came for an estimate, started work four days later, professinal .clean and work was well done.

Very good. Quick and nicely done. Our house is over 100 years old and they handled the tricky, uneven corners and framing very well. Looks great.

Everything went very well. They showed up on time, did it for a reasonable price, and did a good job.

Everything went smoothly from start to finish without any corners being cut. For both the interior and exterior, Loayes put down multiple dropm cloths to protect the surfaces surrounding the items to be painted. For the inside, the drops cloths ran from the front door through the hallway, up to the 2nd floor through another hallway into a bedroom and then finally, into the bathroom they were painting. No drips on the outside railings or benches - impressive because they are comprised of circles joined to straight surfaces and there was no pooling of paint at the juncture. The bathroom was also nicely done with no smudges or drips anywhere along tiles or doorframes.

Bottom Line: Benino overcharged us, was rude when we tried to negotiate with him, didn't show up when we'd scheduled him to come back to fix something he's re-assembled incorrectly, and when he finally showed up and we tried to explain the problem, he continually interrupted us telling us we were wrong. Longer story: I originally had another painter scheduled to paint our porch & doors on Friday, but they had to reschedule for Saturday - when both my husband & I would be out of town - so I looked on Angie's List for another painter to at least do the doors when my husband would be home (he'd already scheduled the day off work) so they could be left open to dry. I called Benino & he agreed to paint the doors, based on my description he said it would take him 3-4 hours and he was going to charge $100 for the first hour, $50 for each additional hour. His hourly rate was higher than other quotes, but given his willingness to come on short notice, I agreed, and we discussed the total to be about $200. I asked him to let my husband know if he thought it was going to be more than that once he saw the job. I took notes on our conversation. Benino came to paint the doors & brought another person with him. My husband called me at work & mentioned it, but I figured the other person was included in his rate. He wasn't. Benino & his colleague worked for 3.75 hours & charged us $400 - twice the phone estimate. Unfortunately my husband & I hadn't fully communicated on the price & details, and, when he thought it was high and couldn't reach me at work, Benino assured him this was the agreement he & I had come to, and my husband wrote him a check. I called Benino on Monday to discuss the issue. He was rude on the phone, interrupting me & talking over me. He would not negotiate. We tried to stop payment on the check, but he'd already cashed it. He told me that he'd only charged us $50/hour for the other painter, I argued that even with that rate, the total should only have been $350, which was still $150 higher than the original quote. Then that night we realized that the door lock was put back together wrong, actually leaving us locked in the house if the button that allows you to use the alternative to the dead bolt was depressed. We called Benino to come fix it, and arranged for both of us to be home on Saturday to meet with him since we weren't comfortable with the situation. Benino never showed up, and when my husband called him to find out where he was he said it was too far for him to go on a Saturday. We arranged for him to come Tuesday, again, both of us were home for it. (note: when he did come to fix the door, he reimbursed us the $50 that was an overcharge by any calcualation). While the work was fine, and he was willing to come on such short notice for the original job, and while my husband & I should have communicated more, I felt like Benino mischarged us and proved to be very difficult to work with on the phone to resolve the issues, and was not responsive to fix the problems.

They did a great job. Very punctual, very neat.

I called for an estimate and an appointment was scheduled. But I am still waiting to have the estimate. When I told him it was for an insurance claim, he seemed to be concerned. He does not speak clear English.

Edwin Loayes came out in September to give me a complete written estimate of the work he proposed to perform. Of the three contractors I evaluated from Angie's List, Mr. Loayes' company gave me the best price. We scheduled the work to be done on 18-21 October 2010. The paint crew arrived as scheduled. I gave them a security code so they could get into the house while I was at work; they worked completely unsupervised. When the job was finished, nothing was missing and all work was done in an exemplary manner and as I had requested. The paint crew not only did an exceptional job of painting, but they thoroughly cleaned up the places were they had been working. They even moved back all the furniture they had relocated to other rooms and reinstalled all the blinds they took down so they could do a thorough job. In all, the best paint experience I've ever had. I will definitely use Loayes Painting again for my future painting needs.
