An attorney told us to terminate our contract. BZA was inflexible about mutually ending the contract & was evasive about the cost. When BZA informed us that the detailed drawings were complete, we chose not to end our contract. We expected to pay $3420, but were billed for $11,372! BZA expended ALL hours in the upset fee early, & therefore drove up the construction costs to extort more money (contract was $3420 or 12% of construction whichever was higher, but BZA indicated that $3420 was the maximum). BZA required us to pay an additional $1000 for a structural engineer when it wasn t required. The first bill charged for services that BZA said were free & double charged for others. A month after we got the constr. drawings, BZA stated that they would send an additional invoice in a week. We received a bill for an additional $3410 FIVE months later! BZA included a late fee when it was their delay. BZA harassed us for immediate payment three days after the second bill was sent.
Description of Work: BZA knowingly lied about how long it would take to produce drawings, having time available, and what the cost was. BZA mislead us about the contract. BZA had absolutely NO concern for our schedule. They started the contract 2 wks late and submitted EVERYTHING late. The delays caused us to lose our builder and painter. BZA did not consult with us at ALL during detailed design and insisted on final payment before submitting drawings. Worse, the construction drawings were incomplete (i.e., no east view) and included many elements that were not as discussed (i.e., floor tile, sump pump, thicker walls, & entrance). BZA was completely unresponsive to our requests for design changes or material choices and said their design was fine. BZA dismissed our concerns. BZA was perpetually rude and condescending; they rarely treated us with respect. Dealings with BZA caused us to lose many days of sleep and feel constantly nauseous for 8 weeks.

Her report is false. BZ did not and does not lie, harass or extort clients. She says we "lie" when the contract's schedule and cost were "estimates”, that we "harass" after a 1 Line email says, "Can we expect reimbursement of expenses this week?" She says we "extort money" when she was billed per contract for 12%% of the est. constr. cost. "BZ had no concern for schedule". False; Contract signed 6/27/07, work began that day. She was kept informed of progress. She wrote 7/30/07 she liked the design, didn't want to change or cheapen it & told us to start final plans. 2 weeks later (8/16) plans were printed for permit. "I was billed $11,372". False; she was billed $6498 (12%% of $54,150). Min. fee was $3420 and max fee was 12%% of the ext. constr. cost. She complains about a bill rec'd 5 months later (a past due bal.) when BZ learns she is building a addition from BZ plans w/o having paid her bill in full 5 months earlier. She complains about a late fee of $52.57 for out of pocket expenses when the contract states 3%% late fee per month on payment past due. "An engineer isn't req'd". False; the city required it, we req'd it. While working with her it was clear that she didn't want advice and was scornful of any idea that didn't come from her. She wanted everything done NOW regardless of changes made to the drawings per her direction, regardless of who is drafting up the structural drawings & regardless of not paying for services given to her under a contract that she signed.
