Overall, although it was a difficult and emotionally draining experience, Jennifer and Karen were fast workers, helpful in advising me on what to donate, sell, etc. and were very emotionally supportive during the process. It was difficult for me as I had to let go of things from my mother who passed away in the past year and Jennifer, in particular, was extremely supportive. Jennifer also gave me some great ideas on how to organize my remaining items and educated me on how to protect my keepsakes from damage. Both ladies were warm and kind and helped me through the process. When there was one box mistakenly placed with donations, they immediately rectified this. I got a tremendous amount accomplished and, after a good night's sleep, woke up to a far more spacious and organized home. This made the cost more than worth it! I have only one complaint, which was not the fault of either Jennifer or Karen. I didn't like the fact that items for donation are carelessly thrown into clear plastic bags. It showed complete lack of respect for things which had great value to me. I had even told the ladies that many items in the boxes were especially difficult for me to part with and asked that I not be shown these as it would be too emotional. In addition to items from my mom, there were some rather valuable items that I don't have time to sell. Being in clear view inside the bags, I was forced to see emotionally laden items that represented my mother and top quality designer clothing end up smushed into a bag. I now have "burned in" visuals of my mom's favorite mementos and a $1K Chanel suit crammed into a bag as if pieces of trash. This was both painful and unavoidable to see. This company should realize how disrespectful it is to treat their clients' coveted belongings in such a way. They were even going to leave these items in clear bags outside my house for pickup, as if they were trash. I had to request they be put in black bags so I wouldn't have to see them this way and so someone wouldn't steal them. The ladies seemed to understand how important it was to allow a person to feel their donations were valuable and would go to someone in need. Yet, this practice of tossing everything into clear bags was in direct contrast to this message. It took a lot of mental and emotional strength to feel good about letting these items go, and I paid a lot of money to assist me in this effort. Should it be too much to ask that my items not be placed into outgoing containers in a manner that shows some respect? Was it too much to ask that a $1K designer suit not even be folded? Even if this was their practice, could they do this out of my line of sight when I specifically requested not to see these items? This company did everything right except this. Had this company have taken the time to remove my items in a more respectful manner, I would have given them a 5 star review and told everyone I know to use them. They need to re-think this process, be more sensitive to their clients and be more consistent with the message they send.
Description of Work: I had two professional organizers come to my home for four hours to help me organize clutter and make donations. They sorted through my boxes, helped me decide whether to keep or donate, advised me on organization methods, inventoried my donations, took donations from my home for me, and supported me when the process became emotionally upsetting.

.Cris and her team are very professional. This is the second move I have done with them. It's the only way to go.. They will unpack and organize me when my new house is ready.. I feel so much more relaxed in an uncluttered house.. It is the only way to move!!

This was more than I could have hoped for. Stephanie & Alex were prompt, friendly and accomplished more in 4 hours than I would have imagined. I didn't think we would get through the first room, much less both of them, in just under 4 hours. Plus, having a person show up with a truck halfway through to start taking junk and donations away was pure genius. Will definitely use them again.

Recently we combined two households and now are planning to move across the country. The amount of crappola to sift through is or was enormous. Julie from Organizing Maniacs was a God-send. She could work independently -- sorting stuff into like-with-like, setting aside items for further review and she could work hand-in-glove with us as we went through box-after-box. The basement was a mess with many personal items that required focus and energy to go through. Cris helped us understand what was most important by projecting us into the future when our kids were grown and when they might like to look back on things they made or things that we saved for them. I would love to have them back since we have a few more areas that need help including virtual photos!

It went really great. They are very good at understanding how nerve wracking getting organized can be for the organizationally challenged. Very calm and collected, and ask questions that help you to understand why you do things the way you do and offer different approaches and solutions. There is a lot more going on under the surface regarding people and their "stuff". They are very skillful at respecting clients differences and privacy.

This was a very high energy person. I would not use her again because looking back, she came in with a predetermined filing system so I don't think that she had the maturity to see the type of person I was. She did not have that full perspective to see what would or wouldn't work for me. She was fine and she did make a difference. Her services were good as an organizer but her ability to see me as a person wasn't there.
Description of Work: Organizing Maniacs helped me with paperwork. She set up a filing system and she removed from my home some items that would be donated elsewhere for recycle.

It went well. Megan was very focused and professional. She moves quickly and kept me engaged and moving the whole day. I was exhausted when we finished but we cleared out my coat closet, hooks, cubbies, dining room table, and my kitchen cabinets. It was really productive. I was able to apply what I learned form her to my son's bedroom and the living room, with all of the toys. So the benefit was two fold!

I chose to go with them because of the reviews. They came over several times. They had like two people per visit and it was like an $8 a day. It came to a total of under $1,000. I was in the process of removing and trying to tear down a lot of my stuff. They were kind of pricey.

Cris is part psychologist, part moving guy, part spatial engineer. Her team is professional, hard working. Cris started the engagement by talking to me, listening to what I wanted to get done (down-size from a +5000 square foot Alabama estate to a 1500 square foot Capitol Hill row house), and then providing recommendations and encouragement. Not only did my home look better after her team swooped in, I felt better about myself!! Our basement was overflowing with boxes from the move and I was just overwhelmed and felt that I couldn't deal with this myself. I worked during the week and Cris and her team came in and made such a difference. I couldn't have made the move without Organizing Maniacs.
Description of Work: Cris and her two-person team unpacked my basement and my 10x20 rented storage room. They organized my basement, installing shelves in a way that maximized the available space. They used plastic crates, professionally creating labels. They organized my laundry closet, refolding sheets and towels. They (gently) encouraged me to donate things I hadn't used in years, and throw away things that weren't even worthy of donation. They purchased all the shelving and boxes and charged me the cost of purchasing only, no added on fee. They contacted a reputable mover to pick up all the items for donation. They catalogued all items and gave me lists I used for taxes showing my donations. They arrived on time every time.

I was completely satisfied with Cris and her team (four in total including Cris), For me it was well worth the money. I only wish I had done it sooner. I am still in total awe of how much they accomplished in the one day. For various reason I had never unpacked all of the boxes from a move almost six years ago or incorporated the contents of an 8' X 10' storage area into my Condo. There was also quite a bit of clutter that had been unpacked or acquired since my move that I needed to find a place for or get rid of. (I had had the contents of the storage unit moved to my garage before the Big Day so that those items could also be dealt with.) Due to my changing circumstances, I really need to move within the next year or so and it will probably be a smaller place. Consequently, what I needed was more a matter of unboxing, uncluttering, and purging and then organizing within my Condo or boxing some of the things back up (which were carefully packed and labeled and are ready to move.) They arrived maybe a little bit before 8:00 am and worked constantly, taking only about ten minutes to eat some lunch, and continued until 4:00pm. The Energizer Bunny would have been left in the dust! They were totally non-judgmental of me, respectful of my "things" and handled them all with care. They were also mindful of the potential issues of working within a condominium building. Because of my mobility issues, they started bringing things to me to make decisions so I could sit. There were certain areas that I asked them not to "organized," just leave them boxed, labeled and stacked and they respected my wishes. I was also very pleased that they work with a charitable organization which came late in the day and removed most of the things I was getting rid of. (I subseqently received an itemized list of everything that was donated and a receipt from the charitable organization.) By the end of the day I was amazed that my entire Condo and the contents of the storage area were "organized." Thanks to Cris and her team (Stephanie, Alex and Megan.)

They are a very caring and professional company. They were prompt, offered suggestions but were not pushy, made sure I took breaks when I looked overwhelmed, took the trash to the curb and hauled off the donations. They even worked with my 9yo DS for a bit in his room. I highly recommend them and will use them again as needed.

Everything went beautifully from start to finish. The team of four arrived at my home promptly at 8:00. After giving a tour of my four bedroom townhouse, the team got to work with sorting, packing, and organizing. Throughout the ENTIRE day, I was asked for my input. The ladies were all so lovely and worked together so beautifully. I felt at ease knowing that they were extremely professional and willing to conquer tasks throughout the house.

This business/service is wonderful! I hired them first on approx. 4/2012 as I was trying to move out of my townhouse. I believe Stepanie came over on short notice to help me declutter my basement so I could get my house on the market. She was very helpful. When I finally moved in Aug. 2012 most items got stored all over the place in a storage area in my new basement. I called OM again to help me unpack and organize the area. Alexandra came this time and she was wonderful. We got more done then I expected. I need to call her again to help me w/ my office area and go onto phase 2 of the basement storage area. This service is worth every penny. I have recommended them to many. We are all so busy and so overwhelmed w/ work, family and everything else and when our homes get out of whack w/ clutter it's so hard to find the energy to get it back and to make all these little decisions...ugh... keep, store, give away, throw away....and if you don't take care of it right away, it compounds ... and you've seen Hoarders. OM provides support where needed, and get the job done. And don't be embarrassed. I was and it took me a long time to get up the courage to call, and one day I knew I needed help or I would not be able to put my house on the market to move, I looked up organizing service and Organizing Maniacs was there... an answer to my prayers. Stephanie and Alexandra put me at ease and got right to the task w/ me. I need to call them again.

They were super-punctual; actually arrived at my home before I did. (I dropped kitty off for boarding for the day.) What followed was an. Intense day of getting my home in order. The team of three people was very respectful of my home and belongings. They were more discreet than some doctors I've known. I could not have been more comfortable with someone going through my personal papers and bills. When I asked, conversationally, about other clients, their responses were informative but vague, showing that they respected the privacy of all their clients. They took only 10 minutes for their lunch break, and recommended that I come outside at that time to give myself a break from all the visual clutter. That showed that they cared about my well-being. In addition to the day of decluttering, they made recommendations for dealing with my paperwork in the future, and suggested how to arrange my furniture and what kind of furniture to use to best accommodate my storage needs. And unlike some TV shows that we've all seen, I was not forced to part with anything I wanted to keep. Even old clothes that I had an emotional need to keep were neatly boxed and labeled. At the end of the day, which ended on time, all my storage boxes were labelled. I could walk into my large closet again, and I had more floor space clear. They removed a box of papers to be shredded for a modest fee. Trash was removed throughout the day, and bags of clothing and other items to donate to charity were "cataloged" so I could be sent a receipt later. *Everything* that was removed was taken promptly to their van, away from the possibly prying eyes of neighbors. Overall, a *much* less stressful experience than anticipated!
Description of Work: Organized large walk-in closet and bedroom closet and helped with filing and weeding paperwork. I had been buried in paper for a long time and definitely needed help to determine what to keep and what to let go.

If I could have Cris move in, I would! She shows up promptly and can quickly assess my emotional state of the day (since I am still grieving) and is wonderful about taking over when I am overwhelmed. She is so easy to talk to and laugh with, and has been so tremendous in helping me get through a huge mess of paper that I kept shoving aside, either because I didn't have the time to deal with it or else the odd papers that didn't fit into my filing system. The result is that I can probably eliminate two entire file cabinets, I have no hidden paper anywhere, and all my desk tops are clean. It's a wonderful feeling and worth every penny!
Description of Work: I can not recommended Cris and her company enough! She was referred to me from a friend in Maryland (I'm in Vienna) after my husband died and I was completely overwhelmed with boxes of filing, insurance forms, and paperwork that had accumulated for the three years my husband was sick. She has come numerous times in four hour increments and has helped me sort, file, or shred records going back 20+ years. We work on one box or file drawer at a time and Cris is a master at pulling out the information I need to save and helping decide what needs to be shredded. Organizing Maniacs can help not just with paperwork but with garage/basement cleanout, items for donation, and recycling. The nice thing is that you aren't forced into a system - Cris works with you to create a method to support ongoing organization in a style that feels most comfortable for you.
