Great overall experience from first call to estimation to work performed
Description of Work: Needed to replace a few rooms of carpet in a rental house. Carpet yard listened to my needs over the phone and send the estimator to meet me within few hours - with samples. Was able to pick carpet and conclude the deal on the spot. Installation team was outstanding. Came on time, and let the house clean of all material, cuttings and ready for tenant to move in.

They were very good. They were fine; they were very good. It was fine; you can give them A's. They were here for a while doing it; they did the whole house. The workers were fine. They did a fabulous job; very excellent. I don't entirely remember everything because it was a very long time ago. Yes we did move our furniture out and it gave us the incentive to clean up. We had to take everything off the bookshelves and move everything. It forced us to throw out stuff. The quality of their work was excellent, excellent - very good. It just looks very nice and they did a very professional job. There were no mistakes and nothing that didn't work. Considering all the work that they did, we thought it was reasonably priced.

We were concerned about replacing the dining room carpeting with hardwood because the catch was that he new floor had to match the 30 year old hardwood floor in the adjacent living room. We shouldn't have worried. Not only were they able to find a wood with a matching grain, John, the wood floor specialist was able to come up with a stain that matched perfectly. During the process the men were extremely careful moving our furniture and putting it back exactly where it needed to go. We also special ordered an area rug to put under the dining room table and chairs. Aaron Still, the sales person helped us with the design, and it came out beautifully. The end result is that our dining room looks fantastic. The second job was replacing all of our upstairs carpeting including the staircase leading up to the second floor and the carpeting in all of the closets. We have a large upstairs with a lot of heavy furniture (and a lot of closets)!. The two-man crew who replaced the carpeting were amazing, We thankfully did not need to empty out a single drawer (nor did they have to remove any of the drawers). All the furniture was carefully removed and put back into place without, bumping, scratching or leaving any marks on our newly painted walls. The workmanship and professionalism for both jobs was top-notch as was the great customer service and follow-up we received both from Aaron Still our salesperson and Randy Femrite, the Operations/Installation manager. We would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again. The crew is the same for both the McLean and Merrifield locations.
Description of Work: Replace carpeting with hardwood in our dining room and replace all the old carpeting in our upstairs bedrooms and closets as well as the stairway and upstairs hallway.
I bought a small-ish "oriental" rug last fall and needed a pad for it. I paid for it and went back at the appointed time to pick it up. It hadn't been delivered to the store and Bill said he would bring it to my house. A small pad!! Then I bought a larger one and dealt with someone else, not Bill, who sold me a flimsy pad (expensive, I thought) which I think belongs on top of wall-to-wall carpeting. I recently had back surgery and sit on the edge of the bed to put my shoes and socks on and the rug was skidding out from under my feet. I went in, Bill was not there, and the man who sold me the pad mentioned above said he had given me several choices which was not the case. I have a memory like an elephant. I said I wanted the kind Ayoub had put under all my other (real) Oriental rugs--the thick, furry kind which are to be used on hardwood floors. He said it would be much more expensive, was not particularly anxious to help me and didn't do so on the spot. Especially since I told him I didn't think I should have to pay for it. Today I got a call from Bill and he said he had the piece waiting for me---that it had been measured and cut and ready for me to pick up. No charge. Keep in mind that I am really a two-bit customer and I believe this is customer service WAY beyond "the call of duty". They are taking a loss on this. I hope my review will help steer business in their direction. Be sure to ask for Bill. Thank you very much!

The representative was timely and pleasant, and called and left a message with the quote a couple of days later, which was not the lowest we received, but in line with others. We did not use their services because we decided to use another provider that carried the carpet that was our top choice.

We used Carpet Yard to do carpet in our basement and stairs in our townhouse in April 2009. They did a great job, so I hired them again to do the carpet in our family room in our new home. I went to their McLean store to talk to Bob, who helped me in 2009. He helped me pick the right carpet and pad, and got me samples so we could pick our color. He dropped by to do an in house measurement that same day. We had discussed my needs and expectations thoroughly during both consults. I then researched the carpet on my own (Shaw / Tuftex). I was so impressed with how well Shaw held up at my last place, so am equally excited for Tuftex this time. It has a 25 year warranty which covers everything. Not cheap, but worth it. Everything went smooth for the install and we are very happy. I will use them again for more carpet.

I used this company twice. The first time was great, and I recommended them to a lot of people. The second time was a complete nightmare. The second time, one thing I wanted was a runner to go up the stairs. Our old runner was 10 yrs old and was starting to wear. Someone came out and measured, took note that we have a large dog and a toddler and recommend a carpet. It was installed and all was well. Immediately, the carpet because to pull and to wear out. Within a month! Our other carpet had lasted over 10 years and was actually doing pretty well. I called and they absolutely did not stand behind their product. They were rude and unresponsive. I was told by one employee that the first person I dealt with at the company had been stealing from them. They had to take him to court after realizing they lost a lot of money. I think they are passing their bad luck on to their customers. I was appalled by their shoddy product and their absolute unwillingness to make it right. BEWARE. The prices are good but they come with a price!

This is one of several companies I called for carpet bids. They did show, but i never heard from them again. I called to complain about the lack of an estimate after about two weeks and later found a verbal one left on my answering machine (right after I called to complain). I have still never gotten a written quotation. Their verbal quotation was the highest of five companies.

I had received two positive recommendations for this company from acquaintances. I went to the store and spoke to a helpful salesperson. He came to our home the same evening and took measurements. That was a Thursday in early December. I was to have an estimate the following Monday. There was none and i followed up with him the following Monday. He hadn't begun to prepare the estimate!! By this time, it was very close to Xmas. After a few more days and one more follow up call from me, I received the estimate which was adequate. He estimated how long it would take to receive the carpet and when the installation would be and everything went well after that. The men who did the actual installation were speedy and professional and courteous.

The work crew was to arrive between 9-10am ,which they did. The first major problem was that no one of the three men that arrived could barely form an English sentence so communicating the most simple thing with them was a challenge. They needed an outlet of more that 100 watts for the sanders. Trying to understand this was awful! They proceded to the electrical box to rewire for their equipment, and left wires hanging out when finished. After they sanded and put down varnish, thier equipment left oil stains on my carpeted stairway. I wanted one window left open to vent the fumes from the varnish, and I asked for the rest of the windows closed and locked, again, they didn't understand, so that didn't happen.

Overall the service from the Carpet Yard was very good. Randy Craig was the salesman who assisted me. He was very responsive and resourceful. At first, I only wanted to install the carpet - but after looking more closely at the existing baseboard, I decided to replace it. The Carpet Yard typically doesn't install baseboard. However, he was able to arrange to have the baseboard installed the day prior to the carpet installation. During installation, all the workers were prompt in arrival, courteous and thoughtful, did excellent work in the installation, and completed the work in a timely manner. They went above and beyond what they were required to do. There was a hiccup in the carpet selection - which I don't think typically happens. However, more importantly was how Randy responded to fix it. He wanted to make everything right and make sure I was completely satisfied with my purchase. As with any such purchase though, I would simply recommend to take a picture of the carpet sample you select and personally write the name and number of the carpet at the time of selection for your own records. I do recommend the Carpet Yard - and particularly Randy Craig as the salesperson.
Description of Work: The primary service was to install wall-to-wall 100% nylon Berber carpeting with anti-microbial spill guard padding. Prior to installation of the carpet, the Carpet Yard contracted another company to install new baseboard throughout the home. The total cost includes the carpet, baseboard, and installation costs.

They really left it very clean; I mean they had to take out a lot of tacks so it was a two days job. They did an excellent job. They were really prompt and the price was excellent. They gave us a lot of choices in the carpet selection and tried to help us meet our budget.
Description of Work: They do hardwood and carpet installation. We used them for carpet installation and hardwood repair. They carpeted a stairwell. They ripped out carpet in a foyer area and the stairwell. They kind of took out all the carpets and the tacks so it was like a two day job.

Came by on a Saturday for a free estimate and gave us a price we thought was reasonable and fair. To perform the work they arrived on time, and gave me a courtesy call at my request when they were on the way. Performed the work quickly and efficiently. They put up a plastic barrier to keep the sanding dust out of the rest of the room, which worked very well. They were able to get the paint off the steps and got out several dark stains. The color of the finished stairs turned out nicer than we expected. They worked hard to get the sanding/sealing done, and the first coat of poly on while they were there the first day. After drying overnight they came back on Saturday morning to apply the second coat. They showed up early on Saturday, which was nice because we didn't have to spend all day waiting around for them! Overall they were very professional, and we were pleased with the job. The stairs were in pretty bad shape with the paint, and they didn't make any promises about getting all the paint off, but they did a great job, and we were very happy with the result.

I was on a budget and time crunch. I called Carpet Yard and they installed wall-to-wall carpeting for an 1,820 square foot suite one week from the day I called. I told them what I could afford and they showed me my options. They did not try to upsell me. It was so easy. Everyone was professional, polite and courteous. The installers were quick, but good. The end result was a great job for a reasonable price and the turn around time was amazing.

Positive 1. Arrived on time. 2. Were friendly, polite, and worked hard. 3. Cleaned up every day. 4. Did great job installing flooring, molding, and balcony balusters. 5. Did great job blending edges between new wood and existing carpeted floors. Negative 1. Underestimated job time; 4+ weeks - not 4 days. 2. Ordered balusters and decorative brackets were wrong size. 3. Had to stain, sand, and polyetherine wood treads twice in home; work was to be done at warehouse. 4. Didn t have large enough circular molding to fit base step; they broke and left gap between molding and stair tread. 5. Dripped polyetherine on wall and floor. 6. Dropped balusters which dented new floor and gouged one wall. 7. Didn t replace damaged floor boards; offered to calk dents. 8. Gouged stair balusters during installation; we calked and painted them; we also removed bar-coded stickers and glue. 9. Didn t paint unfinished wood exposed by new stair brackets; we had to paint these areas. 10. Didn t compensate us for shortcomings.
Description of Work: Carpet Yard removed the existing wood floor in the first-floor foyer. They removed the existing carpeting from the main stairs, the second-floor foyer, and the second-floor library. They installed new Bruce flooring in the first-floor foyer, in the second-floor foyer, and the second-floor library. They installed hardwood steps, risers, decorative brackets, new pre-finished railing balusters (pickets), and moldings. They stained, sanded, and applied polyetherine to the new steps, risers, and decorative brackets.

Great company to work with. I went into the store and was immediately helped. I told the salesperson, Ed, was I was looking for and he immediately provided samples to look at in the price range I gave him. Ordering was simple. The carpet installers came...unfortunately they had misunderstood and thought I wanted a runner up the stairs when I had ordered wall to wall for the stairs. The installer, Zack, said no problem we will fix it and return tomorrow and install. They did, he was great and very professional!!!! Ed then called to follow up and see if I liked it. Great people and great company.
Description of Work: Carpeted the stairs and provided a large, bounded area rug.
