Description of Work: I have a 1944 brick house with brick front steps, the past 60+ years of coming and going had taken its toll on the steps. While still structurally sound, they needed a facelift. Within a week of calling for an estimate, Mike came out did an assessment and sent me the estimate that day. Within a week of calling to schedule, the work was scheduled and completed. It is beautiful and I am SO happy. Also, I have a very difficult nextdoor neighbor who required not one but two trips back for clean-up of dust on his yard. Mike and crew were very gracious and came back for the required clean-up. I really appreciated them dealing with the issue promptly and pleasantly.

It was an incredible experience all the way around. After receiving several bids, we knew instantly that he was the one. He was actually slightly higher in his bid. But my husband and I just knew from his site visit......that he was well versed in his profession, and understood, instantly, what we were looking for. You can find plenty of people to lay stone.......you can't find plenty of people that actually really know what they are doing and approach the job from the homeowners to do list......and not their own. They were on time everyday. They were professional and cleaned up each day....as if they had never been there. I have been in the home design trade for 26 years. I want someone to know what they are doing....do it in a fashion that doesn't waste my time or my money....and I found that in Capital Masonry. If I knew how to attach photos with this review, I would..... A picture is worth a thousand words. The fact is, we have now hired a landscape designer and crew to bring everything else up to speed and show off the beautiful work of Capital Masonry, L.L.C. Thank you again, Mike
Description of Work: In the first stage of the job, Mike and his team dealt with old, cracked, and a seriously "unlevel" surfaces. He covered everything with beautiful multi colored flagstone. He then placed a flagstone cap on the brick walls. It is the care taken in leveling everything, the absolute beauty of the way that they patiently hand cut and placed each individual piece of stone. The curve of the back part of the patio area was also done gracefully and thoughtfully. After the success of the first job we happily hired him again to address the front yard area.,,,which involved a 100 year old massive brick barbecue pit.....a 22 foot diameter intricately designed circle of brick with a 4 foot terraced curved wall with the old bull nose bricks.....that you can no longer get. No one needs a 100 year old barbecue......give me a new Weber. Everything needed to be cleaned, power washed and then completely repointed. To the back of this huge circle of brick was a 4 foot high, beautifully terraced and curved wall ...indeed over 100 years old.....Mike completely cleaned, power washed, and repointed all the brick. The beauty of it is, that the brick while still old and beautiful......has a great patina to it. I didn't want it looking new. I wanted it to have the look of a fine, well preserved antique. The long aggregate walkway...as in way too long, was terraced and then capped with beautiful flagstone. It went from this long plain walkway.....to a graceful elegant walkway. There was also a brick font to the cat port area...which was cleaned, power washed and then covered with stone to work with the stone part of our house.....Great suggestion, Mike

First of all, they showed up on time - but more importantly it was obvious they took pride in their work. They walked over the patio again and again making sure that everything was complete.
Description of Work: Major repairs on an old brick patio. We had a lot of missing mortar, as well as cracks in the patio. I was worried about ice damage in the winter. These guys were professional in every way. They had to first pressure wash the patio, then grind out the old mortar. I was thinking that it would take me at least three weekends to do what they did in one day. Then, it was fill all the gaps with new mortar and finally clean up. The clean up was on the next day and I thought I might have to go out and clean up a bit after them - but everything was just perfect: No extra work on my part.

Mike's crew, who have been with him for a dozen years and done several major stone work projects for us, arrived promptly at 8:30 AM and spent the day working very hard, laying the stone and creating a beautiful wall. Wasn't sure what to expect but their creation exceeded our expectation. The construction area was immaculate when they were finished.

Work was excellent. Crew arrived on time, finished on time. Walk curves, and they got the stone cut perfectly. Capital Masonry was the highest of three bids for the jobs, but they are worth it.
Description of Work: Capitol Masonry covered an existing concrete patio with blue stone. They also poured a concrete front walkway and covered the walkway and an exiting concrete porch with blue stone. These were two separate jobs done about 2 years apart.

Mike came to my house and discussed options with me, then provided a detailed estimate to include the main area, and the add-ons as options. I received 3 estimates for this work, one of which I didn't want to use because they use stone dust. Capital Masonry and one other company gave me estimates using a cement foundation and Mike's was about $3,500 cheaper. In addition to the savings, I appreciated Mike's professionalism in responding to my call promptly, as well as meeting with me personally. The other two contractors did the estimates without my being present, which is fine, but they didn't seem to care whether they spoke with me personally or not. The Capital Masonry team was able to begin work within 2 weeks and they showed up promptly at 8am as promised. The work took just over 3 days and each day they were on time and left my yard in good order. When the work was done they cleaned up thoroughly and replaced my patio furniture and grill to their rightful places. That evening Mike called to be sure I was satisfied and, only then did he request payment. My patio is my favorite room in the house, so to speak, once again. I highly recommend Capital Masonry and will use them again should I have any future needs for their services.
Description of Work: Work on my flagstone patio My (approx. 240' x 200') flagstone patio needed to be redone due to the stone dust foundation settling/shifting. The stones were in good shape, but the grout between stones was practically non-existent and the drainage was terrible too. In addition to having the existing space dug up and re-laid, I wanted to add a small area to the side, as well as have a stacked stone border added to the entire perimeter.

It went seamlessly, other than a 1 day weather delay - who could have expected a snowstorm in late March???? Mike said it would take 3 days. The team was courteous, unobtrusive and the end product was gorgeous. We have yet to test out whether or not the patio will prevent flooding, but so far so good:) We would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We had two issues at our house. 1) Front stop had decorative brick on both sides that was loose and becoming hazardous and the concrete stoop/pathway was hideous. With a wild 2 and a 1/2 year old, it was time to fix them. 2) We had a small addition put on the back of the house that caused a canal to lead to our back door that we fear will eventually lead to flooding our basement. It also was a mud pit. We wanted to stop the flooding fear as well as make the space usable.

I spoke with Mike a few weeks ago and set an appointment to get an estimate on the above project as well as a few others. He was able to come out and meet with us within a few days and gave us a breakdown of the costs of each part of the project. He was very polite and professional. We decided to get a few other estimates but his was the best for the project that had to be done. I called about a week ago and he was able to come within a week. He called the day before to confirm and remind us that the water had to be turned on outside. He said he would be here at 8am and it would take 2-3 hours to completes. Mike and his crew were here right at 8 and were done by 10:30. When I pointed out one small area that could use a little extra concrete he asked one of his gentleman to fix it while I wrote the check. all in all, a very easy process. Masonry is not cheap but I feel that we got our money's worth with a good experience too.
Description of Work: Our brick walkway needed to be repaired as a section had completely fallen off. The whole section needed to be removed and re-set.

Mike and his crew were very professional and prompt. They were accommodating and courteous to our design ideas and their attention to detail was impressive. During the process, they were interactive, provided thoughtful design suggestions and explained why which was helpful if you're not familiar with landscaping design do's and don'ts. I was highly impressed with the amount of detail they put in to each of the stone work and the finished project shows off their skill set, knowledge and expertise. They finished their project on-time per estimate, cleaned up afterwards and total cost was exactly as quoted by Mike - no surprises. Highly professional and experts in their field - I'll continue to use Capital Masonry for other work that I am planning on going forward and would highly recommend them if you're looking for quality work.

On Friday, March 15, 2013, I made an appointment with Mike to give us a quote on either concrete or stone patio work in our backyard (condo). On the phone, he asked if we were tied to concrete--we said no, we were open to discussing based on price. We gave him the choice of early or later in day on Saturday. He agreed to 4pm. At 430, I called the number that we originally spoke to him on - 703-421-0249, and left a message. At 530, I left another message of my disappointment that he did not at least tell us he had gotten delayed/tied up/needed to reschedule. I figured I would have a follow-up call and apology my Monday, but nothing. This is the reason for my message on angie's list. I joined Angie's list to get recommendations-hoping they were solid. While others have reviewed Mike's reliability as good, I cannot say the same. I gave him a C on responsiveness-since he called back immediately to schedule the appointment-however an F in other categories since he did not show up for the appointment or call to reschedule.

Mike was punctual, courteous and professional. He pointed out that the original walkway wasn't draining properly and that this was root of my problem (loose stones, cracking, moldy appearance). Mike's team tore out the stones that were bad, provided better drainage and blended everything in perfectly with parts of the walk/entryway that didn't need replacing. His team did everything in one day (which surprised me) and came back the next day to do a final inspection and clean up. I was very pleased with the work and will absolutely be hiring them again when I have future masonry needs.

Description of Work: A beautiful brick wall was built along a downhill driveway along the property line. A brick sidewalk was built to a side garage door and brick stairs up into the garage. First time I've used Angie's list - found Capital Concrete based on proximity to my home, their willingness to do small jobs, and the review here. Called Mike and left a message - he called right back and set up a time to come look at the situation. Two days later, he was here when he said he would be - pleasant guy. Talked over what I wanted done (basically, a new 3 * 3 "step" poured at the foot of our front steps over an existing 3 * 3 sidewalk section that settled about 4 inches, filling in under the existing poured concrete front steps where the fill had settled or washed away, and patching a space between the brick on the house and the driveway). We talked over what would be involved, he took 5 minutes to write up an estimate, and we agreed on a day to do the work. After talking this over at home, we soon changed our mind - now we wanted a bigger step - 3 * 5. Called Mike, he answered, told him the change, and he told me right away what the difference would be - no problem. It rained last week, so I wasn't surprised when Mike called to postpone - which was fine, as I wasn't ready yet anyway!! When the day finally came, Mike and his three guys were here early, and got right to work. Nice guys, quick workers, very polite and very skilled at what they do. They patched under the brick using grout that matched the grout on the house (which I didn't expect, but love), put in a conduit so I could run wires "under" the step, filled in under the steps, and added the step we wanted, finished to match the existing steps and porch concrete. The guys cleaned up nicely and were gone within three hours. It looks like it belongs there.

Mike and his crew did a great job -- everything looks great. He gave a clear estimate, discussed the job with us. Everything was undertaken exactly as we discussed. They even did a little extra work -- taking up several feet of pavers that connected to the new slate surface to smooth out the look. This was free of charge and just to make the finished job look well integrated with our existing walkways. Overall, one of the best contractors we have ever dealt with. My husband and I have been homeowners since 2001 and have dealt with many different contractors. We were very pleased. Also, we obtained another quote and Mike's team was almost 50% cheaper than the other company. You won't be sorry if you select them.

The workers arrived on time and cut out the base of the old areaway and bottom step without damaging the side areaway walls or the drain. They replaced the base of the areaway and sloped it so that water would go into the drain and replaced the bottom step. They installed small pipes in the bottom step to relieve water pressure on the step. All of the old concrete was removed.

I did not use either Capital Masonry or Masonry Specialists.
Description of Work: Mike Cadle was on time for the appointment and polite, however he never gave me a proposal/estimate. I called him multiple times and emailed him from his website. His brothers run Masonry Specialists which are listed on Angie's List. I suspect he did not follow up because his brothers made a proposal on the same work. However, I find it unprofessional he would not return my phone calls. Masonry Specialists' price was twice as much as that from the company I chose. After seeing the comments about Masonry Specialists and how snippy and flippant they are after they get the job, I'm glad I did not get entangled with any of those Cadle brothers.
