Mr. Cadle, the owner, came on time for our initial consultation, bringing samples of the finished appearance. He answered all my questions and sent a proposal by email. On the first work date, the supervisor arrived early and reviewed the work to be done. While I did errands, the crew arrived and began demolition, which continued all day. Old concrete was promptly hauled away. During and after demolition, I phoned Mr. Cadle with questions, which he promptly answered. During construction, you usually find something unexpected. In this case, it was old copper pipes from a long-decommissioned oil tank. Together we figured out what they were, then they were cut. The next morning, the crew set the forms and steel mesh for the slabs. By lunchtime, the team was pouring the 4000 psi mix. Although it was a cold and sporadically rainy day, the team stayed all day, floating, raking and screeding the slabs. After an initial setting period, they cut the joints. Later, they pressure-washed the slabs to expose the aggregate. The exposed aggregate is a warm golden-to-brown color in keeping with the rest of the property--no "brand-new-white concrete" look. I also chose it because possible hairline cracks and weather and salt damage will be less apparent. Mr. Cadle will be here tomorrow for a final review.

Our experience with Capital Masonry was outstanding. I called Capital Masonry to get a bid on repairing our front stoop and outdoor staircase and left a message. Mike Cadle returned the call within about an hour or two, and came out the same day to look at the work that needed to be done. He was very knowledgable and addressed all my questions to my satisfaction. He spent about 20 minutes making measurements and assessing the scope of the job, then provided me with a printed estimate of the job. The estimate clearly described all aspects of the services to be provided, and the price quoted was valid for 30 days. Mike also explained how things would go on the day the work would take place. It was not the least expensive bid we received, but Capital Masonry provided the most professional response, clearly communicated everything we needed or wanted to know, and was able schedule the job within three days. Mike and the crew came out on the scheduled day after I had left for work. The crew was finishing up as I arrived home, and Mike came back the next day to inspect and make sure everything was cleaned up. He gave us a follow up call to make sure we were pleased with the work. We were and are extremely pleased with the quality of the workmanship. Our stoop looks like new, and the flagstone staircase is once again safe to walk on. The entire process from the first phone call to project completion took less than a week, and yielded fantastic results! We will definitely call Capital Masonry for any future hardscaping/masonry projects, and we would recommend this company to anyone for this type of work.

Mike is the consummate professional. When working up his estimate, he listened to my needs and provided ample information about options. At no point did I feel pressured. More importantly, though this was a small job, Mike made me believe that he was committed to our satisfaction. (This contrasts with other estimates we received for the work we needed.) Once we committed to Capital Masonry, everything went smoothly. Mike was responsive to all of our questions, and moved quickly to schedule the job. His crew was equally professional, arriving promptly and completing the work within the time frame we were given. Taken together, we could not be happier and would recommend Capital Masonry without hesitation. You may be able to find a cheaper price, but Mike earns the difference. Peace of mind and quality work are worth a premium. Thank you, Mike.

Mike is a pleasant fellow, responsive on phone and text, and prompt with estimates and having work done. We have a 76 year old brick stoop that is basically in very good shape structurally. I had one noticeable loose brick; also mortar wearing down in various places. I got an estimate from one mason who pronounced my stoop "unrepairable" and gave me an expensive quote for a flagstone replacement. Next, Mike came out, gave me an estimate and said he could make the stoop look almost as good as new. I was sold. A few days later a crew of three (including foreman) came to the house and worked on the stoop. They were power washing and then scraping and reseting mortar. I stayed out of their way. The stoop was taped up overnight so that the mortar could set. The next day I walked down the stoop, cut the tape and inspected. The bricks did look brand spanking new and the mortar had been placed neatly throughout. I was quite surprised though to see a chipped brick right in the middle of the first step. Then I remembered that two years ago I had rushed out the front door one winter morning, slipped on black ice on the landing, and hovered (probably on that very spot) a few seconds before sliding down the stoop like a sled. I called Mike to point out the chipped brick and he seemed a bit annoyed, saying that I hadn't pointed that out earlier and his estimate didn't include that. He did agree to have the foreman come out and replace the brick at no charge to me (I was lucky enough that the foreman found a matching brick at the back of the yard). However, I was surprised that the crew would not have seen this when they repairing the stoop and replaced the brick as a matter of course, given the cost of the job. CAVEAT: Prior to getting an estimate for brick stoop repair, homeowners should inspect their stoop very carefully to determine where chipped, loose or damaged bricks are. Point out all areas of concern during the estimate. Try to locate your old brick extras too as its hard to find a good match using new brick.
Description of Work: Brick stoop restoration: Pressure washed brick stoop and wing walls to remove discoloration; chiseled out and reset loose brick, removed all deteriorating mortar joints and replaced with waterproofed mortar. Used muriatic acid to remove mortar stains on brick at side of house.

Mike was very prompt in his reply to my initial contact. He came out quickly and gave me an estimate, and then quickly scheduled work to be done. The workers were very professional and cleaned up after themselves very well. A few days later, an employee came back to my house to check with me that all the grout had dried well, and that everything looked good. Overall, a great company, and I'd use them again.

I called several masons that I'd selected on Angie's List and Mike was the quickest to respond. Within a day, he provided an estimate, answered all my questions and walked me through what would be required to make the repairs. Professional, punctual and pleasant to deal with. He was able to schedule the work for 2 days later. His team showed up on time, completed the work quickly and according to the contractor working on the exterior of my neighbor's house who witnessed the team at work, did a quality job. I left a message for Mike after completion to ask a question and he returned my call within hours. My experience working with professional tradespeople in the DC area has often been a disappointment or a hassle. Mike and Capital Masonry are the exception. As I think about hardscaping and any future work at my house, I would definitely call Mike again.

The work was beautifully done by a team of wonderful workers. They were very thorough and put in a great deal of effort to restore the patio. It looks amazing! This is my second experience with Capital Masonry and I would certainly recommend them to anyone who's looking for a high-quality job. I appreciated that the team arrived on time and was able to complete this enormous job in two days. The final touches were put on today when another Capital Masonry employee arrived and power-washed the patio. Also want to add that Mike Cadle was very helpful in planning and coordinating all this work.
Description of Work: Restored my 40+ year old patio, using the existing flagstones.
This job was incredibly smooth. Mike came out and did the estimate on a Saturday for us. The weather was looking good and he said he could start the job on Monday. His crew came on Monday and began to remove our concrete front walk (Some of the slabs had cracks from change in elevation) and our concrete patio. They put on new concrete on Tuesday and came on Wednesday to complete the clean up. We were happy with their work and they even replaced our old drain on the patio with a bigger one which should help us going forward. They did that free of charge. Mike was honest, professional and really great to work with. I highly recommend this company!

Am very pleased with the results. Mike suggested the flagstone renovation of my back stoop which was less expensive than totally reconstructing a concrete stoop and is certainly much more attractive. The team showed up on time each day and completed the work in the number of days they had projected. Am looking forward to early spring when Mike and his team will return to reconstruct my backyard patio.

Our front steps are beautiful. Truly the envy of the neighborhood. Capital Masonry did a fantastic job on the brick staircase leading up to our front door. A year ago, we received a botched repair job from somebody else who will remain nameless, and I spent the better part of a year looking down at messy "mortar" and crumbling cement that the old contractor promised could fix our aging steps. Capital Masonry to the rescue! Every morning when I step outside and look down at my perfect steps, I'm glad I called Mike and his crew to come save the day. The guys were polite and punctual and got the job done quickly. You get what you pay for, and Capital Masonry does great work. Highly recommended.

It was great! Mike called me back the same day I called for the initial quote, and came the next day for the estimate. He and his team were clean, professional, punctual and hard working. They knocked out a pretty big project for me in about a week, and that included loosing some time to rain. The back yard is transformed! The walls have reclaimed a bunch of yard space, and they look fantastic.

I had a large slab of my concrete front walk that had been pushed up about 4 ? 5 inches on the front side by a huge tree root. Unfortunately, elevating the front of the slab caused the back side of the slab to slope down 4 ? 5 inches, which created a deep mud pit/water hole. I contacted 3 companies from Angie?s List for an estimate on replacing the slab. Mike responded immediately with an estimate. After about 2 weeks, I got an estimate from the second company and never heard back from the third. I had quite a few follow up questions concerning the estimate and work required. Mike responded immediately to all of my questions. Despite constant emails and calls, I never heard back from the company which gave me the second estimate. Hence I went with Capital Masonry; their estimate was higher than the other, but Mike was so responsive that I had confidence that he would get the work done. His crew showed up on time; once they removed the slab, there were multiple huge roots under it, and they nicely removed all of them. The slab was poured/replaced and it just looks great. They did a very nice job of removing all the concrete from the original slab and removed roots.

I wish there were a "maybe" option for "Would you use this provider in the future." First, the positives: Mike was incredibly responsive throughout--called to follow up multiple times, showed up when he said he would, etc. On the major parts of the job (repairing the front stoop, fixing cracked sidewalks), the work seemed to be done well. My frustration was with the repairs to the brick on the house. During our walk-through, I pointed out the areas that I wanted fixed--mostly cracks, with a few holes were wires were pulled out, etc. After the repairs, I was left with a cracked brick in the middle of an area where they'd pointed the grout and missed cracks/holes entirely. In a couple of areas, the workers had removed spray foam but didn't fix the cracks/holes beneath. When I sent the pics to Mike, he said he'd send someone back to fix the missed areas, but on the cracked brick in the middle of the repaired area his response was, well, you didn't ask me to replace that brick. Yeah...I'd assumed that was included in the "I'd like this area fixed" direction. He sent a mason out again, and most of my concerns were fixed, but I was still left with some damaged areas. When I again talked to Mike about it, and suggested I would have preferred a complete repair, even if it meant a few hundred dollars' higher bill, his response was, "Well, most people don't want the bill to go up--thanks for understanding." So, I'm torn; I think this company would probably do a good job on a new project or big replacement, but I don't think I would recommend for repairs, unless the homeowner were willing to walk the property with a piece of chalk, marking every single thing s/he wanted repaired.

Response from Capital Masonry LLC
Thank you for taking the time to provide a thorough review of our services. This was an extensive restoration project which took 2 days to complete. The one cracked brick in the photo is clearly an oversight and should have been replaced. I'm happy to do so at your convenience. Occasionally there is miscommunication and we have returned several times to address your concerns. It's unfortunate that we were unable to meet your expectations but we will use this information to serve our clients better in the future. Best regards, Mike Cadle Capital Masonry LLC

I shopped around and chose Capital Masonry because of the reviews on Angie's List and the owner, Mike. He came for the estimate quickly and he seemed to know what he was doing and was efficient. The price was about the same as other companies. A date was set for the work, Mike and the crew showed up on time, did the work, and returned the next work day to go over the work to make sure it was good. I had some concern about a crack that hadn't been addressed and someone came right out to look at it and deal with it to my satisfaction. Very good experience.

I shopped around and chose Capital Masonry to fix my stone sidewalk that was buckling a bit and had cracks. Mike came out quickly to inspect, review the work, and give me a price. He was direct and easy to talk to. Once I agreed on the work, it was done within a week. It involved power washing and then doing substantial fixing of cracks, relaying several stones, and re-cementing many areas. They returned a couple of days later to finish and clearn up (required by the job). They did a good job, but I had concerns about a couple of places on the sidewalk. Mike responded to my request to review the work, and sent someone to look at it and fix what needed to be fixed. That occurred in a timely way, and the worker came and did what needed to be done quickly and efficiently (and cleanly).

The folks at Capital Masonry were responsive and professional. The owner, Mike, met with me quickly to provide an estimate and explained the process they would use to repair my front steps; he was friendly and professional, explained a few different options, and worked with me to find a viable and affordable solution, even suggesting things I could do to reduce the scope & cost of work. The work was done quickly and cleanly, and Mike called back personally to verify that I was satisfied with everything. I sent a few pictures of some mortar work that didn't blend as smoothly as the rest, and he sent someone out within days to correct it. Overall, I am very pleased with Capital Masonry, both in their administration and the quality of their service.
Description of Work: Rebuilt front brick wall of entrance stairs (approx 7' x 4'), replaced broken bricks in stairs and landing, repaired cracked mortar throughout.
Everything went very well from estimate to completion of the work. As a woman, I can attest that this contractor and the workers were very respectful and great for me to work with (not always the case I've had with other contractors). The chimney repairs ended up being more complex that initially thought, but the workers did a great job and took their time to get it right. The new walkway and front step are beautiful and care was given to make sure water sheds away from our home and in the right direction. After the work was done, they did a thorough clean up and Mike followed up to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. Mike communicated clearly and promptly throughout the process and thoroughly explained everything and answered all of our questions. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others and already have! Their prices were slightly higher than other estimates, but the others were not masonry specialists (did multiple types of work and we did not feel as confident in going with them). Capital Masonry LLC focuses on masonry only and we trust their expertise completely. It's not worth taking the risk with others, because as we learned previously, if masonry is not done right, you'll end up repairing it soon.
Description of Work: They repaired the bricks/mortar around the top 1/4 of our chimney that were coming apart due to water damage and added a new crown. They also removed an old brick walkway and front entrance step that was improperly installed resulting in chronic repairs being needed, and installed a new flagstone walkway and front door step.

The need for this work was discovered in the middle of an installation of a new basement entry door. We were very pleased that Capital Masonry was able to do this work so quickly, within 3 work days of when the problem was discovered. They arrived on time and completed the work quicker than expected. When the door company came back to finish installing the new door, they commented that the masonry work was done very well which made the installation of the new door go very smoothly. We would highly recommend this company for any masonry work and will definitely use them for our any new masonry projects in the future.
