Two x Four was extremely punctual with their responsiveness. From my initial contact to verify if they could preform the services I needed (I reached out to 3 vendors at the same time) and they responded immediately. Once I paced my order through Angie's List - they reached out to me the next business to confirm my appointment date & time. I sent them additional emails to verify my requested services and they were able to provide me with a list of supplies I would need. Alfredo arrived on time for the scheduled appointment. He reviewed all of the items to confirm the services I wanted completed and got right to work on the powder room (which ended up being almost a remodel with the replacement of the toilet, fan, vanity and mirror). All of the services where completed within the time allotted in the offer I purchased (Handyman for 8 hours). Alfredo was very polite, professional and cleaned up behind himself as he completed each project. We are very happy with the service we received.
Description of Work: Replaced: 2 toilets 2 bathroom fans 1 powder room vanity and mirror 1 shower head replacement Repair of bi-fold plantation style laundry room door.
A+++ Service from Two by Four!!!! After having gotten 3 estimates from other handymen services (ranging from $750 to $4,600) I was getting a bit frustrated and wasn't sure I'd be able to find a reasonably priced, but yet responsive handyman. One last call to Two by Four, and Gary was out the next day giving me an estimate (and was the only one of the 4 that came out that actually double checked to make sure that the wall I wanted cut in half was not a load bearing wall, btw). He promptly emailed me his estimate (once we sorted out the fact that he had missed a letter in my email address lol). Originally I was just going to do the wall, but in talking through the project with him he said that since he was going to be moving electrical and doing drywall repair anyways, it would be cheaper for me to do recessed lighting in the kitchen at the same time if I was interested (it had been on my to do list!!). His estimate broke down the pricing for each and left it up to me to do the lighting. Once I let him know I wanted to proceed on the project, he had it scheduled to start within days. His 3 man crew was actually early to my house and promptly rang the doorbell at the appointed time. The foreman of the group, "Tiny" was personable and friendly and explained how everything was going to go. They worked all day and every time I came by he would explain where they were at and what they were doing. Although the drywall guy was not scheduled to come out until the following day, because they were so efficient, he actually came out later on the first day to get a head start! He was able to finish up the project the 2nd day, and by the time I got home, it was all done! I am soooo happy with not only the service and responsiveness of everyone I dealt with, but also with the quality of work they did. I will be calling them again soon for whatever my next project is. I highly recommend them!!!

I purchased their 200 sq ft hardwood floor installation for $1299. Their offer clearly states that this price includes ALL material. When the contractor arrived to measure, they added an additional 10% sqft of hardwood that I would have to purchase for "extras". Their offer is misleading because it fails to mention this 10% "extras" charge. Due to their hidden fees, I decided to go with a competitor that doesn't charge hidden fees.

[Member Name Removed], The deal is for up to 200 sf of hardwood. You had 354 sf plus the steps so we did not or would not cheat you what so ever. The shoe moulding is include but not the thresholds or the transitions. If you took the time to read the add carefully you would see that but instead you get angry and give us an "F" because you don't understand the deal.

It went very well. It was assumed that it would take about 2 to 4 hours to install a new basketball goal, hoop and net. Unfortunately, it was a very complicated goal that I had bought, in advance, requiring replacing my other goal, and digging a deep hole in the ground, to accommodate the pole. It was so time-consuming that the 8 hour time limit had expired and the job was not completed. However, the owner Gary Stannard said they would come back the next day to finish, and assured me there would be no extra charge. The goal did not want to fit, and so they had to do some kind of shaving the lower part to make it work properly. One more return to the house a couple of days later, and the job was done, beautifully, and professionally, all at no extra charge to me. Every time I would call Gary, he would be there to answer. Twice he could not, but promptly returned my call. This is one fine organization that can do it all, and they do the job right, with courtesy. I have found no finer company to deal with than Two by Four Construction, and look forward to working with them again, in the future. Try them! You will not be disappointed.

Just fine. There were additional costs for new edging to match the new floor. I think it was $70 extra. He said he could dress up my step ups and I declined. It was based on my schedule and it was sometime on March 11, 2016. There weren't delays on their part, it was us figuring out when we were going to have somebody home. He didn't grab the old stuff that was left on the porch and then there was a small piece of molding/edging behind the toilet that he didn't replace but I mean as far as everything else it was excellent but it wasn't perfect because of those two things. The old molding/edging that he left on the porch should have been taken away. Then there was that one piece that was difficult to get at and I would have expected him to replace that one piece of molding/edging.
Description of Work: He sanded the wooden entry way, he replaced the molding/edging, and then he sealed it all.

When I first called Mr. Stannard, he promptly answered the call. I explained what I needed done and he was able to meet me at the home the next day (which was convenient for me). I originally told him I needed an evaluation and recommendation for a loose staircase railing, and needed at estimate if it had to be fixed or at a minimum a written report if it did not--I said I would be happy to pay him for that report. The next day, he was waiting there at the house when I arrived about 10 minutes prior to our appointed time. He was pleasant and ready to help with my situation. After a quick look at the stair case/railing, he said this was normal for this type of staircase/railing. I asked if he could write that up for me and that I would pay him for that. He said no problem and there would be no charge for that. He said to email my information to him and he would get that written up for me. I did that the same day and he responded back with a pdf document on his letterhead explaining his evaluation of the staircase/railing. Mr. Stannard was very professional throughout the whole process, was very congenial, and so easy to work with. I really appreciated the fact that he didn't charge me to come out, look at the issue and then provide a written report on his findings. I would not hesitate to use his services in the future and would recommend him to others just on this basis. Sometimes it's hard to get people to respond to your phone calls and emails, but not Mr. Stannard.
Description of Work: Mr. Stannard came to look at the main staircase in the home to provide a recommendation. Based on a home inspection, it was suggested that the staircase was "too loose" and needed to be adjusted/fixed. Mr. Stannard came out and provided his professional recommendations on that issue.

Awesome. We had a whole list of items in preparation to put the condo on the market. He was on time and had the list of items we wanted completed. He was knowledgeable in all the areas and worked hard. I went to Home Depot for him twice so he had all the items he needed to complete the work. He had to go once additionally but that is to be expected. He completed the entire task list in the 8 hours allotted.

Their timing was really bad, they were a couple of days late due to weather. They were to show up at 7am, but arrived at 12:45pm. They were supposed to be done in one day, but had to come back the next day. The next day they arrived and rushed the rest of the work, leaving in a hurry a big mess in my front lawn. They were to give me another estimate, but never got back to me.

basement remodeling

I'll start with the TLDR blurb: Gary, Junior, Kenny and Clint from Two by Four did a fantastic job on my basement. I'm very happy with their professionalism, workmanship, and candor. Now for the long version. We recently moved into a new house which has a finished basement. The problem was that there was a weird shaped room with no windows, no air registers and electrical receptacles high on the wall as if a countertop used to be there. In short, we wanted this room removed and the basement to have a completely open concept. After contacting multiple contractors about the work and getting bids, I happened to find the Angie's List Big Deal advertising 35 hours of general contractor work for $1500 by Two by Four ("2x4") Construction. Great deal, so I purchased it. After some back and forth with Gary, the owner, we found a mutually agreeable day for him to come and look at the job. We walked through the basement, talked about what I wanted done, and he understood exactly what I wanted, We even talked about a support column in the room that might contain plumbing which would make installing a sink easier in the future. (Something my wife and I are certainly interested in doing somewhere down the line.) After everything was gone over Gary explained that the job would most likely take longer than 35 man-hours to complete and electrical work was charged on a per hour basis because you just can't tell what's behind the walls until you take them down. Considering two guys at 9 hours a day comes to 18 man-hours, the 35 hours from the deal would go pretty fast. Gary provided an estimate of what it would cost for the work, not including the electrical, and we decided that we would just subtract the $1500 already paid from whatever the end cost ended up being. On the day work was scheduled to begin, Junior (Gary's son) and Clint showed up early and was ready to roll. I went over the details of the job with both of them to make sure we were on the same page. Junior wasn't sure any electrical work would be done the first day so we didn't discuss that too much. After that, they started working immediately. About 11:30am that morning I got a call from Kenny who was doing the electrical work to ask a few questions on the location for the pendant lights and where to relocate the switches. I had everything pre-measured and drawn out for him so it was easy to know where everything went. He also explained that the wiring in our basement was a mess and gave me several options to fix it. We decided to create an access panel in the ceiling and he fixed the wiring and brought everything up to code. On the advice of Gary, I purchased additional laminate to fix the holes in the floor where the walls were removed. Turns out the stuff I bought was too thick to match what was already there. 2x4 went to Home Depot and purchased the right stuff (and even matched it much better than I did to what was already there!) and fixed it all up. The stuff they bought was even cheaper than the stuff I got! After the first day, much to my surprise, the work looked at least 75% finished. On the second day, Kenny and Clint came to finish up the electrical and the drywall guy came to start patching everything up. Kenny called me around 3:00pm and informed me that the 35 hours would end at 4pm. At that time they would pack up and leave. He said that there was still some drywall work that needed to be finished but it was my call on whether to have the guy come back on Wednesday to finish it up. He explained what needed to be finished, how long it would take and how much extra it would cost. He was completely up-front about everything and I really appreciated that. We went ahead and scheduled the drywall guy to come and finish everything on Wednesday. On Wednesday, Kenny texted me when the drywall guy was finished and asked when he could come by that afternoon or on Thursday to do a final walk-through and pick up some equipment that was left in the basement. He came over at 7am on Thursday morning. All of the work was great. Kenny even gave me some tips on painting the ceiling and walls. The only minor negative about the whole job was finding left over materials and trash left on my back patio. It took all of 5 minutes to bag up and put out with the rest of the trash so not a big deal.
Description of Work: Knock down two walls in our basement, fix floor where walls were removed, repair drywall, relocate several light switches, add an additional electrical outlet, remove a recessed light and install pendant lights and prepare the area for painting.
I bought a deal for $349 for installation of 200 sq feet of hardwood flooring. I was told that it would cost me a minimum of $300 more to get my project completed and that was without the material.
Description of Work: I was given an estimate to install 200 sq feet of hardwood flooring.
Below average cost for below average work. BLUF: Competitive prices for passable quality. If you want precision work done, best find another vendor. If you want easy or rough work and ?good enough? is good enough, this might be a company to consider. Overall, I?m significantly dissatisfied with the work they did for me. I learned that a bathroom remodel is harder than it seems and a handyman company is probably not the best choice for a full remodel. Remodels require deep knowledge of many related fields. A handyman has a more shallow skill set across many related disciplines. Older houses are not square or straight. I knew the bathroom remodel would be challenging to bring up to precision standards so I reached out to four companies to bid. Two by Four bid a clear two thousand dollars less than the next lowest bid and they itemized the bid as I requested so I fully understood what I was paying for. The other three companies just gave me a quote without any details so I could not decide how much I wanted to do myself. That mattered. I?d like to spend only a little space on the things that went right. Lights, light electrical, carpentry, medicine cabinet install and the like went fine. Things done correctly are less interesting so I?ll skim over those. If you are considering a large job, what went wrong and the conflict resolution is as important as the initial scope of work. Fundamentally, they seem to be an organization that is concerned with the bottom line, managing employee time, somewhat satisfied customers, and ensuring cash flow. Satisfying a customer is a goal, but that goal is subordinate to the other priorities. To give you a more complete picture, I?ll not list everything that I had issue with, but I?ll recount the issues that gave me insight into the corporate work ethic and management philosophy. 1) New tub install: The standard tub is 60 inches long. My opening is 62 inches. I have a ?fill in? wall to bring the opening down to 60 inches. That wall is not square. While we had everything opened up, I asked them to replace, level and true the corner 2x4 so that rebuilt wall starts from a square wall. They didn?t want to do that even after bringing it up twice. They argued that I would not be able to tell the difference once the tile and paint was applied. Well, now I have an edge that is zero inches on the floor and grows to to 1/2 inch at the top of the tile. Very obvious mistake. When I highlighted this during the post inspection, they commented that they should have cut the tiles differently to compensate but didn't. That was the end of the conversation. 2) Tub Flange: The tub is not yet usable. Fiberglass tubs are designed to have a flange on the long side of the tub nailed into a wood frame. When the tub is full of water, the nails in the flange keep the tub from settling behind the tile. My outside wall is concrete vice wood, thus Two by Four didn?t affix the flange to anything at all. They installed a wood strip UNDER the edge of the tub, but did not affix the fiberglass to the wood. When used, play breaks the grout and silicone seal between the tile and the tub and allows leakage. When I raised this point in post-inspection, they commented that it is impossible to nail into concrete without a large headed screw which throws off the tile. Explaining why it is not installed correctly is NOT a solution. I wish they had followed the enclosed directions and built a frame around the tub in which to nail. In any case, the attempts to reschedule this repair has gone cold. They got paid already so their motivation is low. There were a few e-mails but then it went cold. Back to the personality side if this note, if this were an organization with a priority on customer satisfaction, they would be very active in resolving the issues. 3) Diverter: The first time I turned on the water, the diverter came off in my hand. When I raised that point in post-inspection, I was informed that Two by Four doesn?t like that brand of diverter. I didn?t think that was entirely relevant. After post inspection, it looks like they just tightened it more as a correction. 3) Vanity Alignment: As I mentioned above, my place is older and my walls are not straight or square. I bought a vanity that was square. Anticipating the problem, I asked Two by Four to set the back edge of the vanity carved ¼ inch into the drywall so that the near edge actually is flush with the adjacent wall. Two by Four decided against my request and simply filled in the near gap with ½ inch calk. They then commented that a later home buyer won?t even notice. If I were remodeling my bathroom to flip my house, that argument might be valid. I am not, however, so the argument is not valid. They decided to not execute my repeated request and made the choice that was more convenient for their install schedule. 4) Decorative Tile: I bought some transparent glass decorative tile for the shower. If you are considering decorative tile, hire a PROFESSIONAL tile team. The glass tiles, being transparent, show the shape of the adhesive behind the tile. The directions call out that the tile needs to be set and then moved back and forth to smooth out the adhesive comb lines. If you don?t, you see combed adhesive lines behind the clear tile. Well, that didn?t get done. I highlighted this mid-work and they chipped out some of the most offending tiles and put them back one at a time. This individual manual solution is hard to get right and some re-installed tiles are still not in alignment with their neighbors. There are still quite a few left that have adhesive lines or air bubbles behind them. When I brought it up in post inspection that I was still not satisfied with the corrections in place, they claimed it was impossible to install them correctly directions because of the paper fronting used to ensure proper alignment conceals what is or is not behind the glass tile. Given that the adhesive takes hours to set, and I corrected quite a few when I was lucky enough to find the adhesive still soft, I found this defense invalid. The paper is easily removable once the tiles are set. Moreover, the product would not be in the market if it were impossible to do correctly. It is hard to do correctly, but that is why I hired professionals. I?m giving myself a year with it. If I?m still annoyed by the flaws, I?ll hire a professional tile team to switch out the tiles. 5) Floor tile: My floor tiles aren?t flush with each other. They are large tiles, and the grout between them is narrow, by my request. That means that inconsistencies in the sub-floor are telegraphed into the large tiles. Two by Four understood this and knew that it would be troublesome to install correctly. They claimed it would require grinding the sub-floor down and they had not bid in time for that level of labor. They went ahead and installed the tiles on the sub-floor and hoped for the best. Now I have an 1/8 inch rise/fall between many of my tiles. They said that I was unreachable when the decision needed to be made, but I was in the basement when the floor tile was being laid. I really wish we would have discussed the upcharge to flatten the sub-floor instead of producing a product I?m not happy with. Alternatively, they could have ?skimmed? the floor with a supplementary substrate, which would have also leveled it. That solution is pretty fast and easy. Personally, it just looks to me like they didn?t bother to make sure the amount of adhesive under each tile was the same. I cannot confirm that though unless I want to rip up the tile. At this point, I don?t care why it is wrong. What matters is that it remains wrong. 6) Tub Spigot: I used to have copper pipes. Two by Four decided I should lose my copper pipes and get fresh, new PVC pipes instead. This saves them installation time and saves me the specter of micro-pitting. Well, amazingly, they didn?t anchor the new PVC to anything and the tub spigot had six inches of free play. I touched it with two fingers and it broke the seal. I tugged on it gently and it separated completely from the wall. I pulled it out about six inches before the PVC line hit the inside wall. When I highlighted this is post inspection, I demanded they anchor PVC line so that spigot could be touched without breaking the seal and causing a leak. They commented that I was simply accustomed to the strong copper and I don?t need to use the spigot as a handle but the six inches was excessive. I should lower my expectations to the ?new standard? (i.e. their work level). They did cut down the excess PVC so now I can only pull it out of the wall three inches. Why they didn?t anchor it in place I have no idea. This one put me from dissatisfied to disgruntled. 7) Tremendous leak: An error in the redo of their above PVC install caused me to go from disgruntled to down-right p***** off. When reducing the play in the tub spigot, they forgot to seal the elbow joint. At first use, joint failed and the room below the bathroom was flooded through the ceiling air vent. I decided to not call Two by Four AGAIN but called a professional plumber. He commented that he had not seen PVC for the spigot connection in any of his 25 years of experience. He also informed me that micropitting only affects permanently charged lines. Two by Four was passing off inferior work as industry standard. 8) Grout: Two months now after the install and the corner grout is cracking away. The entire five feet from the tub to the top of the tile in both corners is giving out. This is a SECOND water infiltration issue. What type of error leads to grout failure without the shower even being used. Thank God we have a shower in the basement. My Two by Four shower tub is currently a useless piece of flawed art. I regret that I asked them to do work that was beyond their expertise.

Did not have a good experience with Bob. After missing the initial appt for 13 May 15 he had to reschedule because of traffic - his words. When he did make it to our house he tried to sell us more options than what we initially paid for. He appeared frustrated when we did not opt for additional work at a higher cost. We told him we were only interested in having the initial offer completed. He told us someone would get back with us to schedule the work; this did not happen. We sold the home in mid July and moved out of state. No one from this company ever contacted us to schedule the work which could have been completed in May, June or July - it was a very minor job. It would have been easy to contact us as we kept our home phone number and e-mail address. We were forgotten; we should not have to continually contact a company for work that was paid in advance. Remember, the first appt was missed and we had to set up a second one to meet with their representative.
Description of Work: Nothing - did not follow through after initial appt.

We should have drawn up a contract. Owner & his son particularly intelligent w/some decent manners & foreman has a very kind & helpful side to him -he should strengthen. Sequence of Events Purchased Angie's List Deal in March. 2 By 4 Construction owner came out. Gave very promising image of success & attentiveness. Vast knowledge of many things, esp. old-school methodologies. Called 3-4 mos later, when ready. Did not respond. Should have been checking-in w/us. Tried, again, texting & phone. No response. Emailed him a detailed letter, alluding to a compromised rating that he had recently received. Finally responded- made excuses. Showed phone data - apologized. Work Needed #1) Adding doors between an ofc. & bdrm. #2) Building a home recording studio. Due to owner extensive research on building home recording studios, did'nt replace him w/another Angie's List contractor. Lack of Attention to Customer Requests: 1) Requested #1job to be done 1st. Requested doors ordered many times. Discussed need, extensively. Specifically, asked to measure opening. When arrived, doors not ordered. Crew proceeded w/complicated, very involved #2 project, instead ? I?ve had to do financial bills on the kitchen table! 2)Critical preparatory work was lacking - time wasted, causing disappointment. Planning out the "scope" of the job, at the onset, would help, tremendously. Attempted to address lapse reg. doors w/the owner. Said, ?I never measured the door opening?. Hmm? "No records". Relying on memory. They gave us an extra man for the Angie's List week, which appeared to truly be out of kind our finances were tight. Interestingly, the Foreman was grumbling in resistance to the owner's kindness. Lack of Proper Preparation: *Reg. soldering vs. screw-in hardware, Foreman complained, twice. Why? Talked to the owner a couple times, to know what to order -should have talked to the vendor, himself. Now, job is more difficult & time-consuming, which costs us more labor & complaints too! No big deal, if an isolated lack of diligence, esp. in light of much time on the phone w/Gary, discussing the project, which I think is an excellent service. Good Intentions w/o Due Diligence 1) Contractor claimed skill proficiency in setting up a recording studio. Said could probably work out a cheaper solution for us on, practically, everything. Really appreciated this. Yet, reg. soundproof windows, lost time, momentum & positive attitude of crew. Lack of proper planning resulted in complete stop of work for an extended period of time. His window "option" was a 6-week delivery time. My research revealed it would not work, but would greatly compromise all other "sound barrier" work- 2 wks. loss of time to find another workable solution. Ordered soundproof window from vendor to arrive in 4 wks. Owner's positive attitude to save us $, w/o diligence to protect the progress of the project, is not very positive in the long run, time-wise, expense-wise, or regarding staff morale. 2) Reg. soundproof Doors, owner had ordered the wrong size. Had to wait 2 weeks longer for doors. 3) If it could take weeks to get soundproof windows & doors ordered, why did the contractor not make sure to order before any work began?; Disrespect For Our Belongings 1) We ?had? a very nice carpet in the recording room, that was one carpet piece w/the den & stairs. They, initially tried to protect & cover it, then stopped protecting it from the dirt & work compounds, altogether. Found green glue on it in 3 places. It was because of the quality of the studio room rug that we were waiting on replacing the entirety of the rug in the basement, despite 2 stains in the den that I felt I could deal with. When I brought the green glue concern to the owner's attention, he said they would replace it, if needed. The whole carpet had sheet rock on it all. Now there is compound & green glue on the studio rug, in comparison to its previously great condition. Dirt in carpets break down fibers when walked on. They created a very definite path across the den rug to the recording room. Appears that they dragged the sheet rock or other items across it! Discovered that their solution was to offer a "used" rug of theirs to replace our whole studio room rug. Clearly, their choice, their color - used! Son had told me that the whole rug area in the basement should be the same rug, before our carpet was ever damaged, contradicting his words. We were not ready for a whole basement overhaul. We are now, ready or not. 2) Had moved all instruments to opposite side of the basement to protect from any unavoidable mess. Although sunny weather & flat stone surface outside, they cut Sheetrock inside the house, right by the clean music equipment -Whole basement was covered with it, not to mention dust being the worst thing for our electronics! 3) Basement a mess for 5 ½+ mos w/o finishing the job, stringing out the work that could have been done in 2 ½ mos, max. w/attentive planning. 4) Blocked doorway to storage for weeks w/ supplies, trim,& trash 5) When asked to resolve the need for access to storage, unbeknownst to us, put our wood doors out in the winter weather. Discovered this a week later. Could have easily put them in the storage area (that they blocked) 6) Owner & staff had "no record" of where they put wires in the wall, so foreman had to guess where to cut out holes to put in the wall plates- 2 wrong guesses cost time & compromise to the sound barrier wall we paid for them to put in 7) Foreman put XLR wall plate in the wall, uneven with the top of the wall socket, & was negative when I asked him to redo it right. He still did it crooked. Disrespect For Me 1) Foreman, just walked out - only been at the hs. a few min. When he came back, explained things were never going smoothly, they never got anything done. Seemed directed towards me. Not holding himself/others accountable for their lack of professional focus on the project 2) Unnecessarily, cut holes in the wall in wrong places -"no record" of work done 3) Vendor?s error w/wrong window size 4) Damage to our rug 5) Their mistake on installing trak Lighting ? had to correct curve 6) Foreman took posture to interrupt critical problem-solving discussion between the son & myself, twice, regarding wiring, Once complaining,"I don't get paid enough for this kind of thinking!" Not said as a joke. Son allows it. Possibly Overcharged! One vendor window was made wrong. Son corrected Foreman for trying to cram it into the opening, anyway. Distracted by this & other big concerns, I made requested payment for $2000+ expense, asking why it was so high. Said amount included doors. Tired, I did not realize he did not have a receipt for hours & doors to confirm the amount. Texted him to get receipt - no response. Broke their accountability protocol w/me. Did he overcharge us? Poor Attention To Workmanship. Lacked Attitude of Excellence: The foreman & owner's son were planning on putting in the other soundproof window. Yet, seemed to be ignoring the fact that the wood between these 2 soundproof windows remained unfinished. Learned from the son that the rough openings should have been finished out, before I ever gave measurements to the vendor. I had talked with the owner about the new plan, more than once. If he had been keeping close tabs on the progress of the project & had a completion record to go along with an established scope, then he could have alerted me to this need and sent someone out to finish out two window openings. The windows seals will not have a professional look, due to this oversight, unless someone figures out a way to repair, after the fact. Lying?! We set up the next day, Friday, to finish work. Foreman said their schedule was clear! Texted me late in the evening to say"forgot" they had work to do until 12:00. Tried to find out where they were by 12:30 pm. Did not text back until 1:31 pm, saying, "We are stuck in Arlington dieto to weather" ("due to weather"). My husband was in Springfield, Va, & my contractor friend was in DC, at that exact time of day. There was no traffic-hindering weather in the city of Arlington in between. Had checked the weather forecast - cloudy! Never showed up or called back! On Final Day These two men came out the following January 15. A discussion broke out about the sequence of events around preparing the window openings. 1) I learned why there were ?cuts? into the framing ? Foreman careless use of Sheetrock blade. 2) Checked if the son remembered how the wires were to be hooked up to the wall plates. Son had forgotten! Was going to hook the wires up in a different configuration -"no records" of the information we pd them, both, at $65.00/hour to resolve w/he hi-tech vendor consult by phone 3) Asked son to show foreman location of wires behind the walls, so not be cutting through sound barrier wall a 3rd time, mistakenly, due to the Foreman having "no records" of what they had done, months before."Son" didn't know, either! I released them. Told the son I had written a review. Son put away complaining, arguing, blame-shifting, listened & apologized. I appreciate how candid he was. Made excuse, saying ?This is the 1st time I?ve heard of this,? Their lack of regard for our wishes about our rug, - trying to slip a "used" rug into a purpose greater than control room purpose, to rectify our damaged one, is one such example of their track record concerns I bring up. Why Put Up W/Them So Long? 1) Respected Angie's List "A" grade for 3 yrs 2) Owner said knew how to put in recording studio. Exact skill wanted most. 3) Angie's List reputation where I had worked w/4 other excellent contractors, for past 2 yrs. 4) Too challenged w/holiday prep. to change contractors 5) Project & assimilating of our children to a totally new school sys. challenging enough. Had to focus on researching windows & doors, as they took 4-6 weeks to be delivered. 6) 2-By-4 Contractors midway wiring work, best not to switch out.
Description of Work: 2/3 of the work needed to complete a home recording studio.

Response from Two By Four Construction LLC
In her review she stated we didn't get in touch with her but if you check the Angie's List emails we did get in touch with her. She bought a deal of 35 hours for $1499.00 and when we went out there we let her know there is no way this can be done in that time frame. We started the job and installed wires the way she wanted them done. She ask us to set the trash out in the other room in front of the door and they would remove the trash as we need to do the wiring and drywall. She also attempted the drywall herself with her brother which cause us to have to redo the work they did. They had a tarp in the room but dust and joint coumpound were everywhere. The dog went to the bathroom on our drop cloths which we ended up throwing away. The dog also went to the bathroom on the carpet outside the room. We didn't say anything because it was not our place to mention it to the owners of the dogs. We did get glue on the carpet in the recording room which we did get up. The carpet is still good just needs to be vacuumed. Also when we installed the interior wall we told her we have to cut the carpet . I told her we had a piece of carpet if she wanted to use it in the office area. She said yes but changed her mind later after we cut the carpet. She thinks the carpet has to be the same in the entire basement And I told her it didn't because there ws going to be a threshold there. To the fact that she stated we were lying when we were on another job is totally uncalled for when she had no idea what we were doing. The work we were doing was on the outside of the house and it had rained making it harder to do the work. It had nothing to do with any traffic. She also spoke of our supervisor needing to be more respectful. He told her that we were not able to get done what she wanted done because she has changed her mind so many times and the proper materials or extra wiring wasn't there. He wanted to save her money not disrespect her. She also made the statement that he had be burned by God which is no professional at all. The fact that the windows were ordered wrong has NOTHING to do with us. We had gotten a number for her for the windows and they would have a frame around the windows. She ordered glass from someone that she found and they didn't come with a frame. She measured them in the rough opening which is a two by four. The two by four had cut marks on it from the saw cutting out the drywall,(Common practice) She was nothing but nice to us and we tried to do what we could but all the material were not always on the job. We cut holes in the walls because she said that is where she wanted to install the wiring boxes. After the wiring was done she wanted more wiring and then wanted to change it again. I do understand wanting to do everything right so you don't have to do it again but she was always on the phone with some company asking what she should do. As far as the dimmer goes, we were told it was a led light which it was not therefore we shouldn't have to pay for another dimmer. We also should have to pay for carpet which she herself got dirty with her brother and her dog helped out also. Like I said she is a very nice lady and has a great family and I am truly sorry that it came to this.
I took advantage of the special where one day I got one handyman for a day and the next time Gary suggested that it would be better if two individuals came and worked for 4 hrs. rather then one person for 8 hrs. because two individuals would get things done quicker for that particular project. And Gary was right, they finished things on time. The two guys also went to Home Depot to pick up the vanities so I didn't have to pay for delivery costs. I did experience one major issue; after the access panel was installed by the washing machine and the work was completed in that area, the contractor put the washing machine back to it's place but apparently forgot to place the hose back to the drain. This is my rental property and the following weekend, my tenant, a young girl, was doing laundry and didn't realize the hose wasn't attached to the drain so the water went all over the living room floors (there is no basement in this property and the washer/dryer are on the same level as living/dinning room). As a result, the floors, which I just replaced 3 months ago, were destroyed. After my tenant and I came to realization as to what had happened, I contacted Gary and explained to him that my tenant didn't even think of checking behind the washing machine to ensure the hose was placed to the drain, after the work completed, because she assumed everything was placed to it's original position. When I contacted Gary, he immediately agreed to meet me and my tenant at my rental property. When my tenant and I explained what had happened, without any hesitation, Gary immediately told us not to worry and that he would take care of this; and would replace the floors for free. I was very impressed that he did not give us a hard time and tried to blame the incident on my tenant. Gary takes great pride in his company and his work. I will most certainly use this company again because they are very professional, do great work at great price, and provide excellent customer service! And should something go wrong, as we know with renovations things often do, I am confident that Gary would resolve any issues.
Description of Work: Remove old bathroom vanities, faucets, and mirrors in two bathrooms. Also repaired dry wall and installed and access panel by the washer/dry as there was previously no access to the water valve.
Showed up for estimate the next day after I called. For the job, Gary scheduled our job quickly. Workers showed up on time. They did a great job, with no hassles. They were easily done in just one day. Final cost was as expected. We are very happy with the result and will contact Gary again when we need other work done.
Description of Work: Repainted ceiling, walls and trim on an 11x13 bedroom. Had to cover a very dark, bright green. Also installed a ceiling fan where no light or fan had been before.
