Great experience! 1st worker (believe his name was Cade) showed up 10 mins before scheduled appt at 7:30am; 2nd worker (believe has name was Brian) showed up right at 7:30am. Both workers got right to it after I explained what I was asking for, and made sure to keep me appraised of their progress throughout. For example, Cade asked me which switch I'd like closer to the door, the light or the fan. Little touches like that impressed me, because normally I wouldn't even think about it, however after he asked, it did occur to me that when entering a room, I'd like the light switch closest to door for simplicity rather than reaching around the ceiling switch. Total time for them completing the work was hard to judge, because as they were working, power for the entire block went out (to be clear, this was certainly NOT their fault), so tough for them to test the wiring and functionality. The price I paid at the end was the exact same price I was quoted, so quite happy no unexpected surprises, especially since the total time went longer than expected (thanks Dominion).
Description of Work: Showed up at scheduled time. Rewired ceiling fan through attic and reworked light-switch with single switch in Master bBedroom to provide separate switches for ceiling fan to turn on/off light and fan blades. Cut new hole in ceiling of Guest Bedroom to assemble and install a ceiling fan (which I provided); rewired installed ceiling fan through attic and reworked light-switch with single switch to double switches to provide separate switches for ceiling fan to turn on/off light and fan blades. Provided clean tarps over beds and other furniture to prevent debris and cleaned up all debris afterwards.

This is the second time I'm using this company and I will use them again because of their pricing and the quality of their work. Gary is a nice enough guy and his people do good work but there are communication issues. Orginially, they were supposed to start work on Friday 10/17. Gary had emailed me if the night before at 6pm stating that they were a man down and was wondering if they could come Monday and if that didn't work that they could try to come Friday afternoon or saturday afternoon. This really should have been a phone call and not an email. I told them Monday would not work and informed them that electrical work was being done saturday and the earliest they could come would be 1pm. Nobody showed Friday (Gary had emailed me that they would play it by ear on Friday) so I assumed based on the email they would show saturday. I'm giving a B overall for the above reasons. Remember B is good A is excellent . Both the workers (Both named Kenneth, one went by Kenny the other went by Ken) arrived 30 mins ahead of time, which wouldn't have been a bad thing but I was having my electrical panel replaced and they wouldn't have had electricity to charge the drill and I had mentioned to Gary that 1pm would be the best start time. Ken and Kenny asked if there was a place that they could go eat in the meantime. I pointed them in the right direction. They came back around 2pm and finished eating. This was not a problem. So they got started sometime around 2:15-2:30. Again, not a problem. Ken, who is new to the company, immediately went to work and I will say he busted his hump during the whole time he was there. Kenny took some time getting set up and went to drill the first soffit hole for the vent and noticed that his saw didn't cut the whole exactly right (we were able to get that vent installed). He then went to home depot and got a new saw for making the holes (I had no problem with this and understand that these things happen but do feel this shouldn't have counted toward his time). They got the section in the front of the house before the garage done but didn't know that they were supposed to do the garage as well (Gary did know this because he had told us we needed to buy 40 soffit vents). So Kenny called Gary and they proceeded. It was mine and my wife's perception that Kenny seemed to pick up the pace when he realized that there was a lot more to do. When it got close to the 8 hours time mark (2 people 4 hours each) They were concerned since the "special" price was for 8 hours. I told them that I had informed Gary that for any extra hours we would pay for it. To both Kenny and Kens credit, they had no problem staying to get that done and did work h****** it. There was an unexpected issue that probably should have been looked ahead of time at when Gary was out here getting the information for the job but to Kens credit he didn't miss a beat taking care of it. Basically there was some wood nailed to the roof that needed to be removed for the rafter vents to be installed. I had also requested that the caulking around the windows be done and some gutter work but there is no way in the 5 hours they were here that that would have been done. If you do use this company make sure that the workers that come out are aware of everything that needs to be done and that they have all the materials necessary. As mentioned above, I will use this company again.

Kenny responded overnight ...amazing!!! He was very responsive and we were amazed that we could get the fan installed the very next day!!!! Kenny arrived promptly and was very professional. He made quick work of the fan...providing screws that worked with the box when the ones provided were too long. He patiently balanced the fan and was done in less than an hour...and that is with walking up and down our hill a couple of times!!! I highly recommend Kenny and Two by Four. I would certainly use him again!!!! Way to go, Kenny!!!

Two By Four had someone promptly come by just two days after my inquiry to perform an estimate for the requested services. They were on time and professional. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there as I never actually received the estimate. There was a family emergency for the guy who performed the estimate, which I totally understand, but I can't imagine they were putting all business on hold so it was odd to me that they still could not provide any information for a basic service that they advertise. After nine days of waiting I contacted the company (a total of 4-5 more times) through Angie's, but still never received any information; I was told only that "hopefully you will hear from us soon," whatever that means. By the time of my last message it was about 3 1/2 weeks since the initial visit so I gave up.

I was very pleased with the work and professionalism of the workers. The work was done on time and within the time frame quoted. The work was done with pride and expertise. The end results was beautiful. I am considering more work to be done and will call this company again. The crew was very knowledgeable and friendly in their work. Gary made sure we were completely satisfied with the work before payment was rendered. .

This is the first time I hire handymen off of Angie's list. If this is how inefficiently they work, then I would never use this site again. I got a very poor value for the money paid. Gary may be a licensed professional but a) he wasn't even there during the actual work and b) the workers he sent were very unmotivated and seemed like they just wanted to do the bare minimum to not get in trouble with their boss. I would not use their services again, nor recommend them to anyone. A few weeks before the work, Gary, the owner of 2x4 construction, came out and we agreed on the 4 services being reasonable workload for one handyman for a day. We scheduled the work. Gary had said that on the scheduled day he will come with the handyman to explain to him all the details. The work got rescheduled twice. Once because I had to reschedule and the second time because Gary had incorrectly scheduled for the week after. Anyways, at the end Gary scheduled the service but with 2 handymen for 4 hours each instead. On the day of the service, the 2 handymen came (about 15 minutes late), and Gary was not there. I spent about 20 minutes explaining the work to them, after which point I went to Home Depot to pick up the fencing panel and a couple of 2x4's for the gate. 1) The gutter job did not get addressed at all. They were completely unprepared for it. It was discussed with Gary during the initial visit that there will be extra work required besides just the gutter, e.g., fascia board replacement. The workers essentially refused addressing even that problem. I offered to get all parts from the Home Depot (shingles, anything they need!) but at the end they refused to address the job and said they would refer me to a roofing professional (which they never did). So at the end they did not even put a ladder up to the gutter at all. 2) Bathtub door - a part was missing in the manufacturer package. Work on that task could not proceed without it. 3) Bath sink drains - two drains were replaced in about an hour, correctly. 4) Fencing gate - essentially, with the roof and bath door out of the picture, the two handymen ended up spending a combined 7 out of the 8 hours on this task. This task could have been easily completed in 3-4 hours maximum had they cared to work on the roof.
Description of Work: The provider was scheduled to perform 4 services: gutter repair, bathtub door installation, bath sink drain replacement, and a fence walkway gate installation

The handyman arrived on time without a ladder. He was very courteous and performed almost everything on the list I had sent . I had a light that was 20 to 25 feet up and needed it taken out to see the wattage on the bulb and then put the bulb back. The handyman told me that he had not been informed that he needed a ladder even though I had sent my list over a week in advance via Angies list and direct email. I was told that the owner would be bringing the ladder later and then later told me they had something else to work on. So while it wasn't a big item on my list it still aggravated me a little and I had to mention it. Overall, I was very please, even though it may not sound like it from the above paragraph. The handyman was busy the full 8 hours and worked h****** everything we had on the list. He seemed knowledgeable and keep me informed as he went along. I would use them again.
Description of Work: 1. Install Ceiling fan with Universal Honeywell Remote to replace existing fan 2. Fixed 3 doors that stuck when they shut and the lock on one of those doors that didn't latch 3. Fixed sliding door that keep falling off screw that kept it up 4.Fixed a hole in the wall. 5.Caulked shower area at bottom that was leaking 6.. Need to take a light bulb out from the outside, see if it says the wattage on it, and put it back in (picture included in link). It’s easily 20-30ft high up 7.Sealed around an outside electrical outlet that was exposed 8. Began installation of gutter 9. Traced electrical wire to see where some lights were connected.

I asked for a wet bar to be removed, which included removing the drain and water pipes, plus patching and repairing the wall. The work they do is good, when you can get them out to do the work. In one day, they cut the pipes and provided an access panel in the wall. They also insulated my garage attic all in one day. This is good work. But the photo below is what they left behind. I have a total hip replacement due in a month and am unable to do the work myself. I should have to call them every week to get one more section of the work done. They need to follow until the job is completed.

Gary came Wednesday afternoon to evaluate the work that needed to be done and didn't charge me for it. Four of the guys on his crew came, introduced themselves, and got right to work. They were very thorough and courteous. They even took the time to help my sister out the front door when it was time for her to leave for work (she is handicapped by a really bad hip and walks with a cane). They were done by noon. I will definitely contact them if I need any more work done. They do A+ work. I am so glad I found them on Angie's list.
Description of Work: Gary and his guys removed rotten subfloor and check to make sure the joists, etc were solid and replaced with some sturdy plywood. They also removed wood that had rotted under the threshold and around the door frame, replaced the molding, caulked the around the frame where the water was coming in and touched up the paint. It looked great and no more water has been seeping in through the door frame of our front door.

We initially bought the big deal of $75 for fan installation, the issue we had was there was no existing cut out in the rooms. Gary came by and gave us an estimate to install two fans in our master bedroom and the nursery. He honored the big deal even though it was meant for fan installation that had the hole cut and the electric wires preexisting. He provided a quote for both rooms, subtracted the $75 big deal purchase, and gave us an additional 10% off because I worked for the Fire and Rescue dept. His workers came in and installed both fans and redid the wiring so both worked with the switch closest to the door. The workers were very friendly and did a great job with minimal mess (which they cleaned up afterwards). My wife and I were very satisfied with the work done and would use Gary and his company again. The only issue was reaching Gary via phone or email to schedule the work. I believe he is doing everything on his own so I can understand being very busy. However, the quality of work and customer service provided by Gary was exceptional.

Bob was one of the most responsive contractors that I've ever worked with. I showed Bob samples of what I liked and he searched for items that were within my quality requirements and my budget. His men ripped up all the old flooring, replaced it so my home looks new, then hauled it all away after they cleaned up after themselves. I truly believe that I couldn't have gotten better flooring for a better price with a more amiable contractor. Overall score: A+

Overall the work was done well. The light fixtures/electrical work was excellent. They did an excellent job replacing and matching the hardwood floors. They discovered underlying termite damage in the basement which they were flexible enough to also add on and repair. Unfortunately they had to come back and redo the coating on the floor due to some grit getting into the finish but the end product is excellent. The fix to the wall damage in the laundry room was done well also. The bath room refurbishment was a little less successful. Unfortunately they missed an area of damaged wall above the entry door and had to return to fix that. In the end the bathroom work was done well. We never had any problems with getting timely correction which is much better service than we have had with other contractors in the past. They seemed to want to do the job well which was refreshing. They came on time as promised and were very professional in dealing with the work and us. Overall it was a good experience. We bought a package of hours. They were very responsive setting up an appointment and going through the work. In the end we agreed on a package of work that fit the hours that we purchased. There was some ambiguity in the agreement but in the end we are satisfied with the service performed and the amount charged. We would be willing to use this contractor again.

Had two workers for 2 days, and it was great! The guys showed up early, stayed late, and worked hard. Our patio looks great now, and it looked horrible before. It was a job that had been half-finished for 7 - 8 years. They finished the job and got rid of most of the debris that had been sitting in our back yard the whole time the project had been on hold. They patched drywall, re-taped, and mudded the drywall in the garage, and painted it.

They called about a 1/2 hour before arriving, installer was friendly but professional. I had just undergone foot surgery so was unable to move the boxed fans into position before he arrived, so he moved them upon arrival cheerfully. Worked quickly but thoroughly and had both fans up and running in about an hour. Ran into some frequency issues with the controllers that he patiently worked out to ensure both fans operated independently. They provided the service for the price advertised, were prompt, professional and thorough. Very pleased and I would use them again.

Overall they did a good job. The tiles are square and level. There were some places around the perimeter I had to point out that needed to be regrouted. They installed the threshold boundaries correctly but not how I wanted. I replaced with 2.25" hardwood planks for a level, cleaner look a couple weeks later. Knowing I wanted to do the 2.25" thresholds, I pulled up the existing thresholds and there was an uneven tile at one entry way. So, I had them replace that tile. There was one wobbly tile that had to be reset but since there was 285 sq ft of tile, they did a good job. Two By Four recommended using 3/4" plywood with a special thinset. We did the exact same tile ourselves in our vanity bathroom a month earlier with 1/2" concrete backerboard over a mortar base, common recommendation for tile. So, it is probably more a preference depending on the contractor. Only time will tell how the tile holds up. Since we are selling the house in the next couple months, I won't be able to provide details on how either approach holds up. I assume both are fine. Again, pleased with the results and price.
Description of Work: 285 square feet of 12x12 tiles in kitchen. As homeowners, we demolished the old linoleum floor and bought the supplies and tiles. Cost of service only covers Two By Four's labor and thinset.

First and last mistake - I paid for the entire remodel upfront - about a month in advance without any time table written into the contract. Gary's crew came in and removed and installed the cabinets on the scheduled day - then that was it for a while...........They tore up the bulkheads above the cabinets they couldn't decide whether the upper cabinets needed to be moved or not........within 4 weeks they finally completed the remodel (in an adhoc manner, I never knew when someone would show up to my house, I never heard from Gary - I had to constantly call him to find out what was going on). I think he only showed up the first and second day. At the end of the "remodel", I never heard from Gary for a final walkthrough, nor did I call him to complain to him about the final results. I decided to hire another contractor to fix the following issues: (1) the backsplash was not installed properly - within a couple of days the mosaic stones were missing or crooked or broken. It was improperly caulked. It was simply a mess. I hired another contractor who reinstalled a part of the backsplash, replaced the missing stones within the mosaic pattern. (2) the crown molding was not installed properly - the molding was spliced in a very noticeable way. I had the new contractor reinstalled the molding properly (3) according to the new contractor, the plumbing needed to be raised - so now I need to hire a plumber to take care of that. This should have been identified before the brand new cabinets were installed. (4) Keep in mind I hired Gary's company to install h/w floors and gave them a "A" rating.
Description of Work: Total kitchen remodel to include the following: Demolish and remove existing cabinets and counters. Install new kitchen cabinets, install crown molding for cabinets, remove/reinstall appliances (as needed), install back splashes.
