Two By Four responded promptly to my message via Angie's List, and the appointment to review the work and prepare a quote was made quickly and went exactly as scheduled. The quote was very satisfactory, service was scheduled promptly, the work was completed on time and it was exactly what we needed. Very very seamless transaction.
Description of Work: We needed the entryway to our home modified slightly to accommodate a standard 36" wide storm door. Work entailed some modest carpentry work that had to be done to particular dimensions.
We really liked Carlos but Carlos had forgotten his tarps on the day he sanded our floor and the fine sawdust from sanding the floor was EVERYWHERE. All over the bar in our basement, stemware, walls, shelving, EVERYWHERE. We had also just had new carpet put down and the sawdust was all over the new carpet. Carlos did his hurried best to wipe things down but in no manner did he capture even half the sawdust. We hired a cleaning service to come and clean up the mess and Bob Anderson was noncommital and frankly did not care about the fine sawdust damages which caused us headaches and extra expenditures. While we would hire Carlos again in a minute and provide him with tarps, we would hesitate to use Bob Anderson. Particularly as we were later informed by Carlos that Bob had misled him into believing we did not pay the balance of the bill for the extra square footage due to the sawdust. We had to provide Carlos with information proving we had paid Anderson so the matter could be handled in small claims court.
Description of Work: Bob Anderson with 2x4 Construction had Carlos refinish the hardwood floor in our basement.

I purchased the Angie's List deal and was able to schedule service the very next day. Gary Jr. and Herb arrived at 7:30 on the dot, as promised. I had sent over a list of projects, so I walked through the items with them. They immediately got to work. They ended up needing some materials (I anticipated that due to the nature of the projects), and told me exactly what I needed to get. While I was gone they continued to work diligently on task. By the time I got back, they were looking for more work! Ultimately they were able to knock off everything on my list and more. Very pleased with the quality of their work and their efficiency. Will definitely be calling them back for additional projects.
Description of Work: Assembled and secured bookcase, secured various pieces of furniture, hung artwork throughout the house, replaced shoe molding in bathroom, secured entry door and installed weather-stripping.

The work done by this company was nothing less than superb. My first experience with them a few months ago was so wonderful that when I needed handyman services again, I didn't even think to call around for pricing, etc from any other company. The work on this job (the second time I used this company) was just as spectacular as my first experience. The end result was fantastic and the price more than fair. Both times I have used this company, the guys showed up well before the appointed time, and hit the ground running in terms of starting to work within minutes of arriving. Absolutely an A+++++ company in every respect! I highly recommend this company to everyone who is in need of expert handyman services.
Description of Work: Sheetrock work; repaired cracks in walls and ceilings in two bedrooms; painted walls and ceilings in both bedrooms, plus all closets/trim. Additionally, they painted all doors and trim in the upstairs hallway and all doors, trim and closets in master bedroom.
The work was top notch and they were able to match stains for my cabinets to the flooring that I had selected. We did go over deadline a little bit due to some sick days of workers but overall a great company to work with. Kenny managed the project and was very responsive. During final walk thru there were very few issues to address. In the end we liked the work enough that we have hired them to do our basement next. Several recommendations that they made during the planning/pricing phase saved us money such as staining the cabinets instead of replacing them.
Description of Work: Kenny and Gary performed a remodel of my kitchen and main living space. This included staining cabinets, laying tile, laying engineered wood flooring, laying wood stair steps, granite counter tops and lots of changes in the lighting for our kitchen.
Contractor was punctual and performed the work quickly and did a great job. Kept the mess to a minimal. I would recommend and will use again for future projects.
Description of Work: Hardwood staircase installation
Contacted Two by Four Construction via email to schedule an estimate for replacement of a cracked window pane and repair of various wood rot issues in different wood window frames in my home. The estimate was scheduled for 07/09/15 at 11am. My mom was home at the time and let the estimator in. The estimator arrived on time and was very polite. He was considerate of the fact that we had two small dogs in the house. The estimator took his time to correctly measure the window with the broken pane of glass and also took lots of digital photos of the wood rot issues making detailed notes on the typed instructions I left for the estimator. One of the things I did make an emphasis on in my note to the estimator is that I wanted to use only real wood and no PVC for the wood rot repair. He stated to my mom that they would send an estimate by the next week for the repairs. The problems with this company started after the estimate was completed. I did not hear anything back from them for several days, so I called them to find out where they were with the estimate. The person I spoke to stated that they are working on it and should have it completed in a couple more days. Still no estimate after over a week, so I sent an email on 07/17/15 as follows: "You came by my house on 7/9 for a window repair estimate. I didn't receive the estimate yet and just wanted to touch base with you. My roof will be completely replaced some time in the very end of July or beginning of August, and the siding will be fully redone starting in September. I was wondering if we could work out for your company to start with the window wood rot repair around the awning windows on the 2nd floor and the kitchen picture windows. The awning needs to be done before the roof work is started, so I'm in a bit of a crunch. Let me know what you can do for scheduling." I received an email message back on 07/17/15 as follows: "We have looked at the pictures but we don't see how we can replace the wood without damaging the stucco. Also I would not be able to warranty the work because of the way it is done. The best way to do it would to install PVC which will not rot but Kenny said you didn't want any PVC. I cannot in my right mind give an estimate with a warranty on this work." I did not use this company nor will I refer them to others as I stated from the beginning that I wanted wood rot repair completed with real wood and for the work to be done BEFORE all of my stucco siding was replaced. The fact that it took them over a week to respond to me at all after I called and emailed requesting the estimate which their own estimator stated they would send out is just plain unprofessional. If a company does not wish to perform certain work or has alternative suggestions, these matters should be addressed as soon as possible for the customer to make the best decision rather than dragged out unnecessarily because the company does not know how to respond.

The electrician arrive on time and hung my chandelier to my satisfaction.
Bob, from Two by Four Construction, was one of four companies from whom we sought estimates. Bob's estimate for the work was significantly less than the other three companies, all of whom were dedicated flooring companies. Additionally, 2 x 4 was the only company of the four who came prepared to estimate the cost of converting the stairs from carpet to hardwood, even though I was specific in my estimate request for that work. All of the others wanted to have a contractor come out separately, and they only raised that at the time of their visit to estimate the work. So, Bob got extra points for being prepared. Bob also provided us with ideas on selecting the riser finish. We weren't sure whether we wanted stain or white risers. Bob discussed with us and explained exactly how they would accomplish the white risers. The work was accomplished over 4 days. On day one, the guys arrived and replaced all of the upstairs carpet with hardwood, and removed all of the carpet, handrail and plywood from the stairs, taking it down to the 2 x 6's. On Day 2, The carpenters completed the stairs, and the refinish crew sanded and stained and poly'ed the living room floor, which was away from the stairs. On day 3, they returned and applied the finish coat of polyurethane. After inspection, we decided that the living room stain was a slightly lighter shade than the surrounding floors, so we asked Bob to darken the floor. He had the crew out here today and they restained it with a darker stain to better match the other floors. Two By Four Construction did an outstanding job on all three parts of the job, including the upstairs replacing carpet with hardwood, converting the stairs from carpet to hardwood with white risers, and refinishing the living room floor. We are very pleased with the quality of the work, the teams were very responsive, prompt, courteous, and left the house in immaculate condition.
Description of Work: replaced carpet with hardwood in bedrooms and hallway (about 600 sq ft), replaced carpeted stairs with hardwood to match floors, restained existing hardwood to remove sun-bleached areas.

They did an excellent job. They were also punctual, very friendly and knowledgeable.
Description of Work: Used Angie's List Special. The contractor and his son were great. Very professional and creative at solving any issues that came up while working. In the study, they installed two sets of bookshelves on one wall, smoothed another wall, touched up the paint, and installed a smoke detector. Bathroom: performed light plumbing, wall repair/touch up paint, put up mirror and door stop. Kitchen: reset small countertop and touched up paint. Bedroom: installed mirror on wall and door stop. Basement: reattached bumper to door.

Carlos did an AMAZING job of getting rid of water damaged areas of our wood flooring and filled in areas where the wood had separated, so that when he was finished, the flooring looked brand new! He did a beautiful job, and I will be hiring this company to come back again to finish the flooring in other rooms.

It turned out well but it had to be done in two different phases because they didn’t do the job completely the first time but they made it good and the job was completed satisfactorily the second time. We made contact right away. It might have been like ten days before they actually got here and did the job but it was fairly quickly. There were no additional cost. It took them two attempts to get the job done right. This was an odd occurrence in this house and it depends upon where the house was originally constructed. They just missed making the complete fix on the first path. I would say that I would recommend them. Their customer service was good. Gary was the boss and we had no problem with making contact with him and getting his assessment. Scheduling is not a problem. They were good people. It was a fixed price. They did the work in accordance with that fixed price and completed the job. For the quality of work, the incompleteness was the one that hurt them. They were very responsive. They were here on time. They were good. They missed doing it and seeing the problem completely. They had to make two passes at it to get it done right but they did get it done right.
Description of Work: We were having a problem with the wall and ceiling joint separation upstairs in the hall and they discovered why it was happening and then corrected it but they didn’t correct it completely. There were two sides of the hall. They only did one side of the hall the first time. About six weeks later, they had to come back and do the other side of the hall because they were showing a problem where they had not completed the fix that they proposed on the first job. They came back willingly and finished the job completely and correctly. It was drywall work but it was also correcting a shady construction in the upstairs hall. The partition on each side of the hall should have been connected on the roof truss members up in the attic. When the house was built, they never were. That needed to be corrected and they did it.

I had worked with the company before. They came out in early August. I had to pay extra because there were a couple of steps in the square footage. I saw they had a deal going on so I went with them. I like the quality of work. They are price competitive with other providers in the area. There lack of punctuality drives my wife crazy.
Description of Work: They refinished some hardwood floors. They strip the floor down and then polish them. They did some stairs as well.
In the end, the company did a very good for the price advertised. There were issues with communication (being called back promptly) and making appointments. There were delays with the estimate, and the date for the floor work was changed, even on the morning that it was due. They came through in the end and were professional in their work.

The service was not great. It cost a lot more than the Big Deal. There was an additional $430 that I paid on top of that. I was really unhappy to have to come up with a lot more money to get the work done. The work I was planning to do I had to reduce because their initial quote was way too high. There was another $500 or $600 of work that I wanted to do that didn't get done in the end. Eventually I had spent the money with Angie's List, I went ahead and got them to do the part of the work that they ended up doing, and I paid $400 more. The salesperson was not really nice. Actually. I'm still unhappy because when he came out before I signed the paper, he sat down on my dining room table and started writing on my table with his pen. I stopped him just in time before he scratched the table. It was not a good interaction. The sales process was not a good interaction. The person who came to do the work was very professional and he did good work, but he was a self contractor. He was not an employee of Two By Four. The work was good.

Everything went very well. I liked the I liked the response time from the company when I purchased the deal and when the service call was scheduled, it was very professional. The job was straightforward and there were no complications, a new fan was installed where existing ceiling fan was, so the electrical box was already there. The entire job took about 1 hour. I will definitely work with this company again.

I would absolutely go to Gary and Kenny and the rest again for any around the house project, their professionalism and friendliness and knowledge were extremely gratifying. Gary and his crew worked on several projects around the house. Fixed toilet and plumbing in upstairs bathroom that included fixing kitchen ceiling. Fixed plumbing in bathtub shower, replacing hardware and perfectly replacing the tile on the wall. Fixed attic struts. Laid cement step on front porch. Fixed various other little things that needed doing. The house was going on the market and all these things needed to be done on short and tight schedule, and they worked with me and got it done right, explaining everything along the way.
Description of Work: Various projects inside the house.
Scheduled a quote with Bob. He was late and offered no apology. However, he impressed us with his knowledge of the flooring and the reason for the discoloring. The price was reasonable and we established a three day stretch for the floor to be done. He promised the floor would look like brand new. On the evening before work was to be done we received a call confirming the appointment and arrival of 9 am for the technician. At 1030 I called and left a voice mail to see where he was. At 1115 I received a call and I was told he would be here in 45 minutes. Carlos showed up at 1 pm. No explanation, no apology. By then I was irritated because my plans had been ruined. He promptly started work without putting up plastic - which he did do after I asked. He also was not going to take out the toe kick even though my contract included new toe kick. When I questioned him, he called (presumably Bob) and confirmed. He worked late and finished sanding, staining and one coat of polyurethane. Shortly after Carlos left with the parting words of "don't walk on the floor", my kittens escaped the bedroom and promptly ran down the stairs onto the fresh, wet floor leaving little paw prints everywhere! The following morning Carlos assured me he could fix it. He did not disappoint. My floor really does look like new, without the new floor price tag. We couldn't be happier with the work. And it took a day less than planned.

No issues with this provider whatsoever. The job went very well and the price was very reasonable. I will certainly use their services again.
Kenny with Two By Four Construction arrived promptly at 7:30 am to start work on the installation. He was very nice and answered all of the questions that I asked him. He was respectful to my hardwood floor by putting down cloth to cover my floor. Later on, Gary came and helped Kenny out with the installation. They made a great team! After the ceiling fan and switch were installed, they patched back my drywall. Gary took great care to make sure the drywall looked 100% the way he found it when he came to my house -- flat with no marks! Before they left, they vacuumed the area they worked in and cleaned up nicely. As I sit in my house a few days after the installation, I could never tell that area of my drywall was touched!

When I bought the offer for handyman for a day, i expected someone slow who would make everything take a day. Dale was quick, cleaned up, and did the job right. He has an eye for detail and takes pride in his work and cleaned up a prior handyman's sloppy work. Can't recommend more highly.
