Description of Work: The Arborist were in a free catalog I got in the mail for vendors in Prince William County. I followed up with Angie's List to compare the rating they had: both gave them top evaluations. |While they missed my first promised appointment---I chalked that up to the fact Fall is busy season for landscapers and vendors in the field. They followed up in less than a week and did a thoroughly professional job trimming the overgrown tree in front of my townhouses that had gotten me in hot water with the HOA. The price of $625 was for trimming one tree and they cleaned up all the branches that had been trimmed off. |I would recommend The Aborist with no reservations: my concern was the health of the tree due to so many cross-growth branches and that was addressed. If you have an e-mail account and you can take pictures of your tree to send via e-mail; Tim DeCoste can prepare an estimate for you (I had one tree in front of a townhouse, so he could prepare a quote from that). |You can contact The Arborist and you will receive a professional job performed. Absolutely, use them!

Tim, the president of the company, came out promptly for an estimate. His price was reasonable and his firm's reputation was good, so I awarded the contract to The Arborist. Tim and his team came out on time as scheduled, and performed the work quickly and efficiently. They worked up in the trees and on the ground in coordination. I have had tree work done before and I felt that these guys were very skilled. Branches near or over my house were removed using ropes and pivot point techniques which slowly glided the branches around obstacles without touching or scraping my house. They covered sensitive parts of my yard with wood paneling to protect it. At the end of the day, the work area was clean and free of debris. The next day the stump grinding crew came out with a large custom-purpose machine and ground the stumps finely and deeply. In the past I've seen companies use a small device and grind the stumps into finger-size chucks, but what theys guys left was closer to sawdust (though not actual "dust") which is now combining nicely into my back yard soil. Overall it was a really nice job, and I do not hesitate to recommend The Arborist.

Tim was very knowledgeable and explained to me the dos and dont's of pruning trees and bushes. His quote for pruning my bushes was a lot more then I wanted to spend but I also realize he would do it the right way which would be time consuming as opposed to used an electric hedger.
Description of Work: Tim came out to look at a small cherry tree in my front yard which I thought was dead and needed to be replaced. He trimmed a few dead branches and explained a few other things about the tree I could do and basically I didn't need to replace it right now and give it more time to see if it would grow.

The bid was pretty expensive and I didn’t go with them because it was over what the other two companies had quoted. The guy who came out was an arborist and I liked that part of it. He was very professional. He wasn’t like the other two guys who came out for a bid, but he was stern. I would probably not take a quote from him in the future because his quote was very expensive compared to the others.

This is the second time we have used The Arborist to remove trees. This time the company removed two Bradford pear trees, one of which had sustained severe storm damage. The workers cut the wood to fireplace length and left it where we asked (no extra charge). The stump grinding was delayed because of the ongoing bad weather in the DC region, and I figured that such work had a far lower priority than removing trees damaged in the rain and winds. The stump work was completed about three weeks after the trees were taken down -- a delay that under the circumstances was fine with us. The workers were professional and polite, and the area where the trees had been looks great. I plan to consult with the company on new trees for the yard and look forward to working with Tim on this.

I spent between $1500 and $2000. They were great. We had a really good experience with them. We had several trees taken down on the edge of our property that had made a windbreak. We didn’t realize that when we had those taken down that it would attack our pine trees. There were some diseased trees and they were dying. We had them taken down by some other company. When you do that, it causes an adverse impact on the branches of the trees that are on the other side of the windbreak. So, several branches were constantly falling because they were broken and it was damaging the trees. The Arborist Inc. explained all this to us and thinned out the trees so that the wind could blow through them without destroying them. It worked as well. We have hardly had any branches fall down since they did the work. They really know how to fix the trees. We have a big holly tree that had been shaped in our front yard and it is certainly 30 or 40 feet tall. So, I wanted it re-shaped as a Christmas tree because it had grown out, but the owner of The Arborist Inc. didn’t shape it as a Christmas tree. He said that it’s not natural for the trees on how they grow. He said that it would grow out and there would be a big mess in our front yard. So, he said that shouldn’t be done to the trees. He explained what the problems would be and how it would grow out. Then he did shape the tree. It looks really nice and it’s continuing to grow, but it’s growing naturally. It doesn’t look like a Christmas tree, but it looks like it’s supposed to look. He really knows how to take care of trees rather than just taking them down. We did receive two or three other estimates. The owner didn’t do exactly what I wanted, but his response was better than what I told him. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We used the services of The Arborist Inc. about two or three years ago. They trimmed a bunch of trees, thinned them out and removed a dead branch. They did regular tree work.

My experience with The Aborist was positive overall. They were professional and communicated very well via email. They understood that we were trying to perserve this old tree as long as possible and did not push to cut it down. The only issue was that there was another large leader (limb) that was next to the fallen one. Tim's advice was to leave it for now which agreed with what I wanted to hear. However, that next large limb was noticably weakened by the limb that tore out next to it. It was moving a lot in subsequent storms and it fell the following spring leading to another clean up.
Description of Work: The Arborist cut up and removed a large limb that fell from a 100 year old maple tree in our front yard. In addition, they trimmed other limbs on the tree to take some weight off and cleaned up all cut wood very well afterward.

I have a forestry degree, and had been frustrated with bad advice and misinformation I'd had from some other arborists. I was always impressed with Tim's knowledge, and even more impressed with his honesty. He would tell you up front what work he didn't think was worth doing, and he once told me his reason for starting his own company was frustration with dishonesty within the industry (e.g. charging customers thousands of dollars to preserve a tree when they knew it was dying anyway). Tim's crew is extremely well trained and professional, another HUGE difference from other services. I never saw an improper cut over the years we used the Arborist. The rare times we had a misunderstanding he would always come back and do the work for free. His prices are more than some other services, but you are paying for a) permanent staff (who is insured in case of accidents, unlike some other services who use day laborers) and b) many years of combined expertise. Overall I found the prices to always be quite reasonable given the work. The main downside is that they get quite busy sometimes so responsiveness can be an issue. They always showed up when they had an appointment, but getting the appointment could be a challenge sometime. Some people also disliked Tim's very blunt, straight-shooting approach. If he thought something was a bad idea, he would very clearly state it, sometimes in a joking manner. But I always appreciated his bluntness. I would recommend Tim DeCoste & The Arborist Inc to anyone who needs tree work done and is concerned with getting good advice and solid work.
Description of Work: I used Tim's services for about 3 years when I was on my condo board. Throughout that time we had him plant 3 willow oaks (which are thriving), remove several trees, and do a lot of pruning / thinning. In the case of the oaks it took a while before he found saplings that he thought were first rate quality, and after comparing them to some planted by the city in recent years (which have poor form already) I'm very grateful for that. Over the course of the 3 years we spent several thousand dollars, I'm not sure what the bill was the last time he came out (which is why I left it as 0 above)

Service has been outstanding on three different jobs over the past five years. I highly recommend the company for all landscaping jobs! Very pleasant experience. Quotes are reasonable. Staff is very professional and on-time. I have also referred the company to friends that have also been extremely please with service. What a pleasure to deal with folks that say what they mean and do what they say. At the same time, they treat the customer like a customer from start to finish.

The price is very competitive. The quality of their work is excellent. They were very careful of our yard. They protected our stonewalls from being damaged and would move plants out of harms way if it was necessary. I like to leave spars from dead trees for the wildlife in our woods and they were very good about leaving the spar at the height that we wanted it. They cleaned up afterwards. The owner came around and gave good advice on how to prune the trees. I was very pleased.

Tim was very accommodating about coming out for the estimate, working around my schedule. I asked his opinion of some other trees and he assured me that they were okay. He suggested pruning out only the large branches as the most cost effective method. I have used Tim's company in the past and know his suggestions are backed by his college education and years on the job. The crew arrived within 5 minutes of their scheduled arrival which was during the morning rush hour, and were working within a few minutes. Besides taking great care to not damage the house while removing the large dying oak, they used ropes to lean the under story trees away from the area in which they were working so that they too would escape damage. Some of the dead branches that needed to be pruned out of other trees were entangled in electrical wires. Working in teams, they were able to get every branch out and down on the ground with the wires still intact. The clean up was so good that the yard looked as if I had hired a lawn maintenance team.
Description of Work: The team of six took down a large dying oak tree that was leaning toward the house and pruned out large dead branches high up in several other oaks on the property. They removed the large trunk sections by truck and chipped all the branches and limbs. They cleaned up so well that they even took leaves outside the work area and placed one of my potted plants decoratively on the stump!

I was extremely pleased. Tim LaCoste came himself to do the estimate and was clearly very knowledgeable. In discussing the work, he pointed out how and where he would cut to insure the health and natural appearance of the plant. He pointed out the results of earlier improper pruning and described what he would do to correct the situation. He also recommended actions that I should take within the next year. I recommend Tim and The Arborist highly.
Description of Work: Needed considerable work done in professional pruning and shaping trees (3 dogwoods, 1 crepe myrtle, 1 redbud, 1 maple), and shrubs (3 large pyrocantha, 3 yews and 1 very overgrown forsythia). Also required removal of ivy and Virginia creeper that had climbed up chimneys on both sides of house. Finally, wanted professional arborist's advice regarding health and treatment of one of the dogwoods and the redbud. He demonstrated more knowledge than the other estimate I requested, and the amount he estimated was almost 25% less.

Called three companies for estimates. One never showed. The others quoted within 24 hours. Of the two, The Arborist was cheaper by about $800 (20%). Tim was extremely professional and knowledgeable taking the time to explain how the work would be accomplished and the various ways the work is done by others. Tim advocates doing the work by hand, vs. a crane, thus sparing one's driveway and lawn. Work was accomplished within five days with everything exactly as promised. Neat, clean and complete. Tim is a business man who knows the value of quality and service.

I have used this company more than once. They provide professional, quality tree removal. They are very courteous and arrive on the scheduled date on time. They clean up all debris and leave the area as they found it. I would highly recommend them. They may charge a bit more than some, but you get what you pay for. They do an exceptional job.
